1.              GAYAJI DAM - INDIA’S LONGEST RUBBER DAM ON FALGU RIVER

·                Bihar Chief Minister (CM) Nitish Kumar inaugurated India’s longest rubber dam ‘Gayaji Dam’ on the Falgu (or Phalgu) river, near Vishnupad temple in Gaya, Bihar.

·                steel foot over bridge for the visitors who visit during Pitripaksha Mela was also inaugurated.

·                The dam has a bulletproof structure with rubber sheets laid at the bottom that does not allow it to deteriorate for almost 100 years.

·                The Dam was constructed by Rubina Company of Austria in collaboration with Nagarjuna Construction Company of Hyderabad and on the advice of experts from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee at an estimated cost of Rs. 324 crore.

·                Falgu River originates in the Palamu district of Jharkhand and passes through the holy city of Gaya in Bihar.

1.              INDORE TO BECOME INDIA’S FIRST ‘SMART CITY’ WITH ‘SMART ADDRESSES’

·                Indore, Madhya Pradesh (MP) will become the first smart city with smart addresses after the implementation of a fully digital addressing system by the Indore Smart City.

·                A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Rajat Jain, co-founder of Pataa Navigations, and Rishav Gupta (IAS), CEO of Indore Smart City for advancing the smart city.

·                According to the MoU, Pataa app can be used by everyone and business and also all government agencies and emergency services including police, fire department, and ambulance for providing services like Electronic Know Your Customer (E-KYC) and geotagging.

·                Pataa Navigation will integrate with government platforms such as electricity, agriculture, excise, women and child welfare, and education to provide access to Digital Addressing Systems.

1.              BANGLADESH PM SHEIKH HASINA VISIT TO INDIA

·                In September 2022, the Prime Minister (PM) of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina was on a four-day visit to India and held bilateral talks with Indian PM Narendra Modi to review and further strengthen the relationship between both countries.

·                Both sides looked forward to the early launch of the jointly-produced film on Bangabandhu (Mujib: the Making of a Nation).

·                During the meeting Seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between India and Bangladesh in the areas of railways, science and technology, space technology and broadcasting.

·                Both nations decided to open north east border for trade, and transit.

·                This will not only boost north eastern states in India, but also benefits Bangladesh by providing a gateway to South East Asia.

1.              PRADHAN MANTRI TB MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAAN LAUNCHED

·                The President of India, Droupadi Murmu virtually launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to reinvigorate the mission of Tuberculosis (TB) elimination from the country by 2025.

·                The President also launched the Ni-kshay 2.0 initiative, a  portal to provide a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment.

·                India has more than 25 percent of the total TB patients of the world, whereas India’s entire population itself is less than 20 percent of the world’s population.

·                In 2020, the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) was renamed as the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) that aims to eradicate TB by 2025 which is 5 years ahead of Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

1.              COMMITTEE SET UP TO MODERATE GAS PRICE

·                The government of India(GoI) set up a Committee to review the formula to formalise the pricing of gas produced by companies.

·                The committee, chaired by Energy Expert Dr.Kirit Shantilal Parikh, a former Member of the Planning Commission(GoI), will include members from the fertiliser ministry, as well as gas producers and buyers.

·                It will suggest a “fair price to the end consumer”.

·                The panel includes representatives of the gas producers association such as ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) and OIL (Oil India Limited).

·                It also has a member from private city gas operators, state gas utility GAIL (India) Limited, a representative of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and a member from the fertilizer ministry.

·                In 2014, the government decided to use prices in gas surplus countries to arrive at a formula for locally produced gas.

·                The local gas prices were linked to a formula tied to global benchmarks, including Henry Hub, Alberta Gas, National Balancing Point (NBP) and Russian Gas with a lag of one quarter.

·                The rates according to this formula were subdued and at times lower than the cost of production till March 2022 but rose sharply thereafter, reflecting the surge in global rates in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

·                Institute of Integrated Learning in Management (IILM University) in Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) launched the first National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) Complaint Law School in India.

·                The school also has Legal Aid and Advice Centre as required by the Constitution of India, the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and the multiple directives of the Supreme Court of India.

1.              NITI AAYOG REPORT ON POSHAN ABHIYAAN

·                NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) has released the 4th progress report on the POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyaan, titled “Preserving Progress on Nutrition in India: Poshan Abhiyaan in Pandemic Times.”

·                Maharashtra (MH), Andhra Pradesh (AP), and Gujarat (GJ) are found to be the top three states in terms of total implementation among larger states at the national level in 2020, followed by Tamil Nadu (TN), Madhya Pradesh (MP), and Himachal Pradesh (HP).

·                Sikkim performed the best (more than 75%) out of the eight small states, followed by Meghalaya, Tripura, and Goa.

·                Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu topped among Union Territories (UTs)

·                Punjab and Bihar were the lowest performers among larger states in terms of the overall implementation of Poshan Abhiyaan

1.              INDIA’S FIRST INDIGENOUS AIRCRAFT CARRIER INS VIKRANT COMMISSIONSED IN KOCHI

·                Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi commissioned India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier Indian Naval Ship (INS) Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi, Kerala.

·                Designed by Indian Navy’s in-house Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by CSL, a Public Sector Shipyard under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways

·                Prime Minister also unveiled the new Naval Ensign (Nishaan) showcasing Indian maritime heritage. He dedicated the new ensign to Chhatrapati Shivaji.

1.         CMIE: INDIA’S AUGUST UNEMPLOYMENT HIGHEST IN LAST ONE YEAR AT 8.3%

·           According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy Pvt. Ltd (CMIE), India’s unemployment rate surged to a one-year high of 8.3% in August 2022 as employment sequentially fell by 2 million to 394.6 million.

·           This is the highest unemployment rate since August 2021.

·           In August the urban unemployment rate shot up to 9.6% and rural unemployment rate also increased to 7.7%.

·           The unemployment rate in rural India rose from 6.1% in July to 7.7% in August and the employment rate fell from 37.6% to 37.3%.

·           In August 2022, Haryana recorded the highest unemployment rate (37.3%) followed by Jammu & Kashmir(J&K) 32.8%, Rajasthan 31.4%, Jharkhand 17.3% and Tripura 16.3%.

1.         COUNTRY’S FIRST ‘FIRST VIRTUAL SCHOOL’  LAUNCHED

·           Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister (CM) of Delhi launched First Virtual School’- Delhi Model Virtual School (DMVS), affiliated with the Delhi Board of School Education and claimed that this school was a India’s First Virtual School.

·           The virtual school system was initiated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and aims to help students who are unable to take physical classes.

·           National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) denied the above claim and informed that the first virtual school of the country was already launched by NIOS in August 2021.

1.         INDIAN RAILWAYS PROTECTION FORCE LAUNCHES ‘’OPERATION YATRI SURAKSHA’’

·           Indian Railway along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF)  launched a pan-India operation known as ‘’Operation Yatri Suraksha’’ to improve the security of passengers.

·           To initiate Operation Yatri Suraksha’, the RPF launched a month-long pan-India drive against criminals who loot passengers in July 2022.

·           During the drive, the RPF caught 365 suspects who were handed over to the concerned GRPs for legal action.

·           Under the initiative, several steps are being taken to provide foolproof security to passengers including train escorting, visible presence on stations, surveillance through CCTV, surveillance on active criminals and others.

1.         THE WORLD’S FIRST HYDROGEN-POWERED TRAIN FLEET IN GERMANY

·           Germany inaugurated the world’s first hydrogen-powered train fleet, this initiative by the German Government is to open the door for more environmentally friendly travel.

·           The benefit of the new fleet is to cut off 22 pounds of CO2 emissions, which are caused by a gallon of burned diesel fuel.

·           Per year 460 tons CO2 will be reduced.

 

2.         INDIAN NAVY RECEIVES FIRST-EVER FULLY INDIGENOUS AK-630 GUN AMMUNITION

·           Indian Navy received the first-ever indegeniously produced 30mm gun ammunition that will be used in AK-630 guns, which is fitted on warships.

·           It was produced by the M/s Economic Explosives Limited(EEL), (Nagpur, Maharashtra)a subsidiary of Solar Industries India Ltd.

 

3.         FIFA LIFTS BAN ON AIFF

·           The World football governing body FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) lifted the ban imposed on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) after the Supreme Court (SC) terminated the mandate of the Committee of Administrators (CoA).

·           Now, India will host 7th Under-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 which is already scheduled to be held on October 11-30, 2022 at three venues viz. Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao (Goa), and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra).

·           FIFA had suspended the AIFF on August 15 2022 for ‘undue influence from third parties’.

·           It was for the first time that India is hosting the FIFA women’s football tournament.

 

4.         NEERAJ CHOPRA WINS ATHLETISSIMA WANDA LAUSANNE DIAMOND LEAGUE 2022

·           Neeraj Chopra won Athletissima Wanda Lausanne Diamond League 2022 title at La Pontaise Olympic stadium in Switzerland.

·           With the massive throw to 89.08m (meters) in his first attempt, He became the first Indian to win the gold medal at a Diamond League meet.

·           The effort also helped Neeraj Chopra qualify for the World Athletics Championships 2023, to be held in Budapest, Hungary.

 

5.         ASIAN MEN’S U18 VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

·           India won the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship 2022 against South Korea 3-2 and bagged a Bronze, which was held in Tehran, Iran.

·           The success gained after 14 years. 

·           India have qualified for the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) 2023 U19 Volleyball World Championships along with Japan, Iran, and South Korea.

·           Japan and Iran won gold and Silver respectively.

·           Overall, Indian athletes have won five medals at the U18 Asian Boys’ Volleyball Championship. 

 

6.         WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY 2022- AUGUST 26

·           Women’s Equality Day is annually celebrated on August 26 across the United States  of America (USA) to honour the women of America for gaining the constitutional right to vote.

·           The day honours the ‘Nineteenth Amendment 1920’ of the constitution of the USA  to give equal voting rights to women.

1.          DRDO & INDIAN NAVY SUCCESSFULLY FLIGHT-TEST VL-SRSAM IN ODISHA COAST

·            The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), and Indian Navy successfully flight tested Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha

·            The test was carried out from an Indian Naval Ship (INS) against a high-speed unmanned aerial target.

·            The missiles, equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seeker, intercepted the target with high accuracy.

·            VL-SRSAM is based on Astra Mark 1 air-to-air missile and it has been designed to strike high-speed airborne targets at the range of 40 to 50 km and at an altitude of around 15 km.

1.          MERCOM INDIA RESEARCH REPORT  ON SOLAR

·            India adds a record breaking 7.2 gigawatt (GW) of solar installations in the first half of 2022, as per the report released by Mercom India Research.

·            As there is a raise in solar capacity by 59%, India’s cumulative installed solar capacity now stands at 57 GW.

·            Rajasthan became the first state to cross 10 GW of cumulative large-scale solar installations at the end of March 2022.

·            Rajasthan topped the large-scale solar installations during the Q2 of 2022 with 53%.

·            Gujarat also topped the large-scale solar installations during the Q2 of 2022 with 14% of installations, and they were followed by Maharashtra with 9%.

·            India has a utility-scale projects development pipeline of over 57 GW, with another 37 GW of tendered projects awaiting auction.

1.       INDIA & MALAYSIA BILATERAL AIR EXERCISE – UDARASHAKTI

·         India & Malaysia concluded the four-day military exercise ‘Udarashakti’, which was between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the host country Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

·         The exercise held at the RMAF Air Base Kuantan, Malaysia.

·         Both the Air forces flew seven aircraft in formation during the ceremony.

·         India and the Federation of Malaya, which would later become Malaysia, established diplomatic relations in 1957, from when both the countries have also improved their defence ties.

·         The IAF contingent will next travel to Darwin, Australia, for Exercise Pitch Black 22, which will be conducted at the Royal Australian Air Force of Australia (RAAF).

1.       INDIA RAMSAR SITES TALLY RISES TO 75

·         India has designated 11 more wetlands under the Ramsar Convention or the Convention on Wetlands, taking the total number of Ramsar sites in India to 75 from 64 with area coverage of 13,26,677 hectare (ha).

·         The 10 new sites include 4 sites in Tamil Nadu (TN), 3 in Odisha, Two in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), and 1 each in Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Maharashtra.

·         In 2022, a total of 28 sites have been declared as Ramsar sites.

·         Based on the date of designation mentioned on Ramsar Certificate, the number is 19 for this year (2022) and 14 for previous year (2021).

·         TN has maximum no. of Ramsar sites (14). It is followed by Uttar Pradesh (UP) which has 10 Ramsar sites.

·         Sundarbans in WB is the largest Ramsar site in India.

·         Chilika lake is Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon and first Indian wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

·         The United Kingdom (175) and Mexico (142) have the maximum Ramsar sites whereas Bolivia spans the largest area with 14,842,405 hectares under the Convention protection.

1.        ‘SMILE-75 INITIATIVE’LAUNCHED

·         The Union Minister Dr.Virendra Kumar, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJ&E) launched a ‘SMILE-75 Initiative’ at a Shelter Home (Rain Basera) near Nizammudin Metro Station in New Delhi (Delhi), as  a part of AzadikaAmrit Mahotsav.

·         SMILE is an acronym for Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise.

·         Under this initiative, the Central Government has identified 75 Municipal Corporations to implement comprehensive rehabilitation of persons engaged in the act of begging.

·         The MOSJ&E has allocated a total budget of Rs 100 crore for the SMILE project till 2025-26.

·         It envisions developing a support mechanism for holistic rehabilitation of those engaged in the act of begging and to make sure that no person is forced to beg in order to survive and fulfil their basic needs.

1.      ISRO UNVEILS INDIA’S FIRST VIRTUAL SPACE MUSEUM ‘SPARK

·           S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), unveiled the ‘SPARK’: The Space Tech Park, India’s first virtual space technology museum, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit  Mahotsav celebrations commemorating India’s 75th anniversary of independence.

·           SPARK is the first 3D (three-dimension) virtual space tech park ever created by ISRO.

·           The platform’s beta version offers a virtual tour of SPARK and visitors can virtually board the Space on Wheels bus to take the tour.

1.         MANISHA KALYAN & SUNIL CHHETRI NAMED 2021-22 AIFF FOOTBALLERS OF THE YEAR

·           Indian Men’s Football Team (The Blue Tigers) captain Sunil Chhetri was named the 2021-2022 All India Football Federation (AIFF) Men’s Footballer of the Year for the seventh time.

·           In the Women’s Category,  Manisha Kalyan bagged her maiden award for the 2021-22 season.

·           Martina Thokchom was named the 2021-22 Women’s Emerging Footballer of the Year

·           Vikram Partap Singh was named 2021-22 Men’s Emerging Footballer of the Year.

·           Sunil Chhetri has scored 84 goals for India in 129 appearances and became the third highest goal scorer among active international football players only behind Portugal’s Christiano Ronaldo (117) and Argentina’s Lionel Messi (86).
