1.     ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’
ü ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme will be implemented by June 1, 2020  across the country. The announcement was made by the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan.
The scheme is operational in 12 states across the country which includes Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Tripura, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Kerala, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana.

2.    Oxfam Report
ü Oxfam International released a report titled ‘Time to Care:Unpaid and underpaid care work and the global inequality crisis’. As per the report, India’s richest 1% of the population has more than 4 times of wealth held by 953 million people making up for the bottom 70% of the country’s population. 2,153 of total billionaires globally in 2019 had more wealth than the 4.6 billion people who make up 60% of the planet’s population.

1.    Centre of Excellence in Blockchain Technology
ü Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Blockchain Technology set up by the National Informatics Centre(NIC) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The CoE has been set up with the aim of providing blockchain as a service and help all stakeholders to benefit from shared learning, experiences and resources.

2.    Gujarat leads in water efficiency
ü According to the rankings of ‘Central and state governmental water departments based on their efficiency targets for 2019’ released by Ministry of Jal ShaktiGujarat ranked the best for parameters on efficiency targets , while NCTof Delhi remains in the worst-performing state category.

3.    Magh Bihu festival
ü Magh Bihu, an auspicious harvest festival is being celebrated in Assam. Magh Bihu falls in the local month of ‘Magh’ during mid-january. It is also called ‘Bhogali Bihu’ or ‘Maghor Bihu’ as it is celebrated with community feasts after the annual harvest takes place

4.    New Delhi World Book Fair 2020
ü The 28th edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair 2020 (NDWBF 2020) was held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from January 4-12, 2020. It was inaugurated by Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’. The theme of NDWBF 2020 book fair was ‘Gandhi: TheWriters’ Writer

5.    Global Social Mobility Index 2020
ü World Economic Forum (WEF) released 1st edition of a report titled “The Global Social Mobility Report 2020: Equality, Opportunity and a New Economic Imperative”. The global social mobility index (GSMI) of 82 countries were launched in this report. As per the Index, India ranked in the 76th position with a score of 42.7while Denmark topped the list.

6.    $50mn assistance to SL
ü  National Security Advisor (NSA) of India Ajit Doval  visited Colomo.India pledged to provide $50 million security assistance to Sri Lanka for purchasing equipment for its security forces.

7.    25th Conference of Speakers
ü A parliamentary delegation headed by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla has attended the 25th edition of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) 2020 held in Ottawa,Canada . In 2022, Australia will be the host of commonwealth speakers meeting & Uganda to host 2024 Commonwealth speakers conference with additional CSPOC Standing Committee meetings to be held in Guernsey in 2021 and Trinidad and Tobago in 2023.

8.    WGC Report Outlook 2020
ü RBI has been ranked 6th largest buyer of sovereign gold abroad after it purchased 25.2 tonnes in the first 10 months of 2019 according to World Gold Council(WGC) report titled “Outlook 2020: Global economic trends and their impact on gold”. The central banks of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Poland have purchased more gold than India in 2019.
ü RBI currently holds 625.2 tonnes of gold, that forms 6.6% of its forex reserves.

9.    UN revises India’s GDP growth forecast
ü According to the ‘World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2020’ report released by the United Nations (UN), it has revised the India’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth forecast for the year 2019-20  to 5% from 5.7%.
ü Growth projection for 2020-21 has also been downgraded to 5.8-5.9 % from 6.6%  in the report.

10. Kiran Mazumdar  to receive highest Australian civilian honour
ü Australia has conferred its highest civilian honour, the Order of Australia honour to Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder and chairperson of bio-pharmaceutical company Biocon.She is the fourth Indian citizen to be awarded Australia’s highest civilian honour.

11. New Vice Chief of Army Staff
ü Lieutenant General Satinder Kumar Saini appointed as the new Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS). He will take charge on January 25, 2020. He succeeded Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who was promoted as the Chief of Army Staff.

12. New President of AAI
ü Arjun Munda, Minister of Tribal Affairs elected as the President of the suspended Archery Association of India (AAI) for 4 years term. The elections were held as per the Delhi High Court order. 

13. India successfully test-fired SLBM K-4
ü India successfully test fired the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) K-4 at the Visakhapatnam coast in Andhra Pradesh. The range of K-4 ballistic missile is 3,500 Kilometer. The missile was developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The test was carried out from underwater platform in the sea.

14. 1st woman third Umpire in men’s T20I
ü Jacqueline Williams of Jamaica becomes the first woman third umpire in men’s international cricket match. The 43-year-old Jamaican woman oversaw all 3 matches of the Twenty20 International (T20I)  series in Grenada, West Indies  between West Indies and Ireland.

15. National Immunization Day-January 19, 2020.
ü The Pulse Polio Programme 2020 was conducted as a part of National Immunization Day across the country.

1.    Exercise ‘Winged Raider’
ü Indian Army(IA) conducted its biggest airborne exercise ‘Winged Raider’. The exercise comprised of more than 500 soldiers of Special Forces troops in the northeastern theatre and involved all kinds of air transport platforms of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

2.    India’s first model sports villages
ü Two villages namely Bahadurpur and Kheri Veran of Uttar Pradesh (UP) has set to become India’s first ‘Model Sports villages’ as a part of Institute of  Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad, UP ‘Adarsh Khel Gram’ program in association with NGO‘ Sports: A Way of Life’ to evolve sports culture and increase sports literacy in the country.

1.    Rashtriya Arogaya Nidhi scheme
ü Govt has released the National draft policy on Rare Disease in which financial support of Rs. 15 lakh will be provided under the Rashtriya Arogaya Nidhi scheme for one-time treatment of rare diseases.
ü The scheme benefit is limited to people below Poverty Line (BPL) and also 40% of the population eligible as per Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana(AB-PMJAY) norms for treatment in government tertiary hospitals only.

2.    National Water Policy
ü Mihir Shah has been appointed as the chairman of the 11-member committee to draft the National Water Policy(NWP) and will have to submit the report within 6 months from the date of constitution. The committee was established by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation of govt. of India.

1.       ‘SAHYOG-KAIJIN’ EXERCISE
ü  Japan Coast Guard (JCG) Ship ‘Echigo PLH08’ has arrived Chennai on a five-day goodwill visit and it will participate in the 19th edition of Annual Joint Exercise ‘Sahyog-Kaijin’  with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) off in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

2.      CHILD MORTALITY REPORT OF UN
ü  United Nations(UN) inter agency group for child mortality has produced a report titled “Levels and Trends in Child Mortality”. As per this report India is among 5 countries where in 2018, the mortality of girls under the age of 5 exceeds that of the boys. Half of all under-5 deaths in 2018 occurred in the following five countries: India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC) and Ethiopia.

ü  Wings India 2020, an international exhibition and conference on civil aviation sector, will be held at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad, Telangana from March 12-15, 2020. The theme of the event is “Flying for all”. 

2.        NATIONAL CYBER CRIME REPORTING PORTAL
ü  National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal was dedicated to the Nation  by  Amit Shah in New Delhi. He also inaugurated Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) during the event.
Also National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal 
www.cybercrime.gov.in portal was launched on August 30,2019 which helps the citizens of the Nation to report cyber crimes through online.

1.    WORLD’S HIGHEST RAIL BRIDGE
ü  Government of India set a new deadline for the completion of the world’s highest railway bridge- Chenab bridgeKashmir will be connected to the rest of India by Indian railways by December 2021. Konkan railway is the implementing agency of this project.The Chenab bridge will be 35m taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris,France.
Once completed, it will surpass the record of the Beipan river Shuibai railway bridge (275 m) in China.

2.    STATE ENERGY EFFICIENCY INDEX 2019
ü  The index tracks the progress of Energy Efficiency (EE) initiatives undertaken in 36 states and Union Territories(UTs) based on 97 indicators.The states and UTs listed under front runner categories were Haryana, Kerala and Karnataka, thus making the total count to 3.

1.    Naval exercise ‘MILAN’ 2020 
ü The Vishakapatnam city of Andhra Pradesh will host International naval exercise ‘MILAN’ in March 2020. The theme of the exercise for the year 2020 is ‘Synergy Across the Seas’. 

2.    NCRB 2018
ü National Crime Record Bureau’s (NCRB) report on Crime in India for the year 2018 was released. The report finds that over 50 lakh crimes have been registered in 2018.
ü The report stated that Uttar Pradesh(UP) accounted for the maximum number of economic offences in 2018 with 22,822 cases recorded. It was followed by Rajasthan (21,309 cases), Maharashtra (14,854 cases).

3.    EIU survey 2015-20
ü Ranking based on fastest growing urban regions/ fastest growing cities in the world was released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). as per the report 3 of the cities in Kerala were ranked in the top 10 places. Malappuram city of Kerala was ranked 1st in the list, while Kerala’s Kozhikode and Kollam cities were ranked in the 4th and 10th place respectively.

The objective of the center is to identify, nurture and promote innovation of children up to 18 years in the state.The innovation centre will come up in Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Extension Research and Innovation at Gujarat University.
