1. DISBURSING LOANS UNDER PM SVANIDHI SCHEME

      Uttar Pradesh  has secured First Rank in Disbursing Loans under PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme by approving the highest number of loans under the scheme in the country.

      Madhya Pradesh came second in the list with over 1.25 Lakh Beneficiaries, followed by Telangana (53, 777) in Loan Disbursement Scheme.

      Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh ranked first in all categories viz Applications of Loan, Sanction of Loan and Disbursements of loans under the scheme.

 

2. FIRST ‘QUAD’ EXERCISE

      The naval exercise Malabar is held annually between the troika of India, United States (US), and Japan but this year i.e. the 24th edition of exercise will also see a participation of Australia making it first “quadrilateral” naval exercise excercise.

      This Quad grouping exercise will take place in India Ocean Region (IOR) viz. Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea in a non-contact format amid COVID-19.

 

3. WATER ON SUNLIT SURFACE OF MOON

      For the first time, National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) has confirmed water on the sunlit surface of the Moon.

      SOFIA has detected water molecules (H2O) in Clavius Crater, one of the largest craters visible from Earth, located in the Moon’s southern hemisphere.

      The results are published in the latest issue of Nature Astronomy.

 

4. WORLD DAY FOR AUDIOVISUAL HERITAGE 2020: OCTOBER 27

      The United Nations (UN) World Day for Audiovisual Heritage is annually celebrated on October 27 globally to commemorate the adoption of the Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images in 1980 by the 21st General Conference of UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

      Theme of World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2020– ‘Your Window to the World’.

1.  WAVELRAMKALAWAN ELECTED AS SEYCHELLES PRESIDENT

      India origin Wavel Ramkalawan, of the opposition LinyonDemokratik Seselwa (LDS) has been elected as the President of Seychelles by defeating incumbent Danny Faure of United Seychelles party.

      His great grandfather was an indentured labourer from Bihar.

      It should be noted that since 1977 it was for the first time that Seychelles got a leader from opposition party.

 

2.  400TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF SHRI GURU TEGH BAHADUR

      Central government set up a high-level 70-member committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur.

      Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers Rajnath Singh& others among the members.

 

3.  PORTUGESE GP

      British Driver Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won the 2020 Portugese Grand Prix held at Algarve International circuit, Portugal.

      With this win, Lewis Hamilton became the most successful driver of Formula One with 92 wins.

      Finland driver Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) finished second, while Netherland’s Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) finished third in the race.

 

4.  MAHESH KANODIA PASSED AWAY

      Mahesh Kanodia former Member of Parliament(MP) and renowned Gujarati musician and singer passed away at the age of 83 at his residence in Gandhinagar, Gujarat due to prolonged illness.

      He was born on 27th January 1937 in Kanoda village, Mehsana district, Gujarat.

1. RS.100 COIN TO HONOUR RAJMATA VIJAYARAJESCINDIA

    PM Narendra Modi released the new coin of Rs.100 denominations to honour the legacy of Rajmata VijayarajeScindia on the occasion of her birth centenary over a virtual event. She was born on 12th October 1919.

    Prahlad Singh Patel, Union Minister of Culture and the family members of Vijayaraje Scindia participated in the event.

    She penned her autobiography “The last Maharani of Gwalior” with the support of author Manohar Malgonkar.

1)      Cabinet Approved hike in MSP for RMS 2021-22

·        On the lines of the recommendations of Swaminathan Commission, on September 21, 2020, Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for all mandated Rabi crops for marketing season 2021-22.

·        The decision regarding the increase in MSPs for Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2021-22 is taken with the principle of fixing the MSPs at a level of at least 1.5 times of the All-India weighted average Cost of Production under “Pradhan Mantri AnnadataAaySanraksHan Abhiyan” (PM-AASHA) as announced in Union Budget 2018-19.

·        These crops need relatively cool climate during the period of growth but warm climate during the germination of their seed and maturation.Wheat, Barley, Gram, Linseed, Mustard, Masur, Peas, and Potatoes

2)      Operationalise Kishtwar Airstrip

·        On September 20, 2020, the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Army for the development and operationalization of Airstrip in Kishtwar.
The MoU was signed by Brigadier Vikram Bhan, Commander, 9 Sector Rashtriya  Rifles and S. Katoch, Commissioner Civil Aviation signed the MoU in the presence of LG, Manoj Sinha and Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (MoS), Prime Minister Office (PMO) through video conferencing at Raj Bhava

3)      SEBI constitutes Technical Group on Social Stock Exchange

·        Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) constituted the Technical Group under the Chairmanship of Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, former Chairman of NABARD. The group will develop a framework for onboarding non-profit organisations and for-profit enterprises. 
It will also develop a framework for prescribing disclosure requirements relating to performance and aspects related to social audit and social impact. 

4)      Book- “Voices of Dissent”

·        The New book titled “Voices of Dissent” authored by Historian Romila Thapar will be jointly published by Penguin Random House India and Seagull Books. The book is set to publish in October 2020.
In this book the Romila Thapar speaks about the emergence of various groups like the Jains, Buddhists and Ajivikas who were collectively known as Shramanas and 1st millennium BC.
She explores the ideas of the few Bhakti saints of the 15th and 16th centuries and portrays the major moments of dissents (satyagraha of Mahatma Gandhi) that resulted in establishing a free and democratic India.
She highlights the use of idioms of religion as reflecting social change which resulted in the current politicization of religion.

5)      World Rhino Day – September 22 2020

·        The World Rhino Day is celebrated Internationally on September 22, 2020. World Rhino Day is celebrated annually on September 22 by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) and other international organizations.
Theme for World Rhino Day is “Five Rhino Species Forever”.

 

6)      1st state with Policies on Ethical AI, Blockchain and Cybersecurity

·        Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) Edappadi K Palaniswami released Tamil Nadu Cyber Security Policy 2020Tamil Nadu Blockchain Policy 2020 and Tamil Nadu Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligence Policy 2020(Nicknamed as ABC Policies) while participating in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) ‘Connect 2020’ event through video conference. 
It became the first state in the country to release policies on Ethical AI, Blockchain and Cybersecurity.

1. INDIA’S FIRST E-LOK ADALAT
·        Chhattisgarh State Legal Service Authority and the high Court organised India’s first e-Lok Adalat to ensure the administration of justice and to solve the financial crisis of the parties and lawyers amid COVID-19 pandemic.
·        The high court Chief Justice P R Ramchandra Menon inaugurated the e-Lok Adalat through video conferencing.
·        Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute grievance mechanisms or a forum where pending cases or disputes in the court of law are settled or compromised whereas e-lok adalat will be handled virtually.

2. BECOMING THE SECOND-LARGEST FOREIGN INVESTOR IN UK
·        According to the United Kingdom’s government’s figures released on 10 July 2020, India has become the second largest Forign Direct Investor in the United Kingdom (UK) after the United States in 2019, by investing in 120 projects and creating 5,429 new jobs in the UK.
·        India increased with a 4% FDI increase for the UK on 2018-19 with 1,852 new inward investment projects in the 2019/2020 financial year. 

3. 2020 DADA SAHEB PHALKE AWARD FOR ‘CHI LUPO’
·        An independent filmmaker, Kezang D Thongdok won the 2020 Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his documentary “Chi Lupo” – showcasing the practice of collection of honey from the perched rocky hilltops.
·        The documentary Chi Lupo portrays the customs and practices of the Shertukpen community.
·        The Chi in the title of the documentary refers to honey and Lupo refers to hunter. 

4. GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES ASEEM PORTAL
·        Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey , Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MoSDE) launched the Aatamanirbhar  Skilled Employee-Employer Mapping (ASEEM) portal, which maps the demand of skilled workforce to find available sustainable livelihood opportunities.
·        ASEEM is available as an online portal and mobile application developed and managed by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in collaboration with Betterplace, a Bengaluru based company.

5. IAF RECEIVED LAST 5 AH-64E APACHE ATTACK HELICOPTERS
·        US based Aerospace Company Boeing, has delivered the last 5 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to Indian Air Force (IAF) at the Air Force Station, Hindan, Uttar Pradesh.
·        This final 5 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters were part of a deal that was signed by Indian Government & Boeing in the year 2015 to deliver 22 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters .
·        Also the Chinook is a transport helicopter for carrying troops, artillery guns and other equipment.

6. BOOK-‘A SONG OF INDIA’
·        The book titled  ‘A Song of India’ authored  by Ruskin Bond  to be released on July 20, 2020, which will mark the 70th year of the author’s literary career.
·        The book is the 4th  installment in his memoir series(a written record of a person’s own life and experiences).
·         The book portrays his unknown life before he became a successful author.
·        His memoir series are, “Looking for the Rainbow” (2017), “Till the Clouds Roll By” (2017) and “Coming Round the Mountain” (2019).

7. WORLD POPULATION DAY 2020: JULY 11
·        Theme of 2020– The theme of 2020 is to safeguard the sexual and reproductive health care, protect the health and rights of women and girls, and end gender-based violence.

1. INDIAN RAILWAYS SETS UP SOLAR PLANT IN BINA
·        For the 1st time in the world, Indian Railways will directly supply power to Overhead Traction System of train.
·        To achieve this feat, Indian Railways has recently set up 1.7 MWp (mega watt power) at Bina (Madhya Pradesh) which shall be connected directly to Overhead Traction System.
·        Indian Railways has partnered with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme for this first of its kind project in the world.
·        Indian Railways will transform itself as ‘Net Zero’ Carbon Emission Mass Transportation Network by 2030.

2. CBSE PARTNERS WITH FACEBOOK FOR CURRICULUM ON DIGITAL SAFETY
·        The Union Minister for HRD Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ made an announcement on the partnership of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Facebook to launch a curriculum on Digital Safety and Online well-being and Augmented Reality (AR) for students and educators.
·        To ensure online well being of students and prepare them for the future of work.

3. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2020
·        In accordance with the “Sustainable Development Report 2020- The Sustainable Development Goals and Covid-19”, comprising of SDG index 2020, there will be severe negative impacts on most of the United Nations (UN)-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) due to COVID-19 pandemic.
·        India, which has ranked at 117th position with a score of 61.92 is also facing major challenges in 10 of the 17 SDGs including zero hunger, good health, gender inequality among others.
·        The index has been topped by Sweden.
