1. INDIA WON 2015 SAFF FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
i. India has won the 2015 South Asian Football Federation championship for record seventh time.
ii.India defeated  Afghanistan by 2-1 goal score.
iii.Earlier India had won the SAFF Football Championship in year 1993, 1997, 1999, 2005, 2009 and 2011.
iv.SAFF is known as South Asian Football Federation.
v.It was started in 1993 and participated by 8 countries including: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

2. MOUNTAINEER ARUNIMA SINHA SCALES MOUNT ACONCAGUA IN ARGENTINA
i. India’s mountaineer Arunima Sinha has successfully climbed Mount Aconcagua in Argentina as part of her Mission 7 Summits.
ii.she created World record by becoming First Female amputee to climb 5 Mountains of the World.
iii.Mt. Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia and is also known as second Everest.
iv. Earlier she made the world record by becoming first female amputee mountaineer to climb the Mount Everest.
v. Arunima had lost her left leg in a train accident in 2011 after she was pushed out of a running train by robbers

3. UNION GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED SETTING UP OF CCL SPORTS UNIVERSITY IN JHARKHAND
i.Union Minister of State  for Power,Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal announced setting up of CCL Sports University in Jharkhand.
ii.The university will have a capacity of 1400 students and 15 sports academies.
iii.Central Coalfield Limited is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, an undertaking of the Union Ministry of Coal.

4. UNION CABINET GAVE EX-POST FACTO APPROVAL FOR MOU ON BRICS NETWORK UNIVERSITY
i. The Union Cabinet has given ex-post facto approval for signing of Memorandum of Understanding among BRICS countries on BRICS Network University.
ii.It will help countries in developing  cooperation among the BRICS nations for the purpose of increasing scientific research, higher education and information exchange.
iii.In November 2015 the negotiations were held on the MoU during the 3rd BRICS Education Ministers meeting and Senior Officials meeting held in Mosco, Russia.

5. INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRED INDIGENOUSLY DEVELOPED MBRL PINAKA II AT POKHRAN
i. India has successfully test-fired Pinaka II multi barrel rocket launcher System.
ii.The trials were conducted at Pokhran in Rajasthan.
iii.Pinaka is an unguided rocket system and capable of neutralising large areas with rapid salvos.
iv.Range of Pinaka II is 40 km.

6. UNION GOVERNMENT TO START LPG-LIKE DBT SCHEME FOR KEROSENE FROM 1 APRIL 2016
i. The Union Government decided to start a LPG-like direct benefit transfer scheme for kerosene.
ii.The scheme will be started from 1st  April 2016.
iii.The scheme will be implemented in 26 districts of eight states including Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh , Rajasthan,Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab.

iv.Under this scheme, people will buy kerosene at market rate, but will get subsidy directly in their bank accounts.

1. TELANGANA LAUNCHED E-VAHAN BIMA SCHEME
i. Telangana Government launched e-Vahan Bima Scheme to issue motor insurance policy in digital form.
ii.The scheme was launched by IT Minister K T Rama Rao  with T S Vijayan, Chairman of Insurance Regulatory Development Authority.
iii.Telangana became the first state in the country to legally accept motor vehicle insurance policy in digital form.

2. UNION GOVERNMENT SIGNED FINANCING AGREEMENT WITH WORLD BANK TO FUND EDUCATION OF MINORITIES
i. The Union Government signed a Financing Agreement of 50 million US dollars with the World Bank.
ii.The scheme is named as ‘Nai Manzil Scheme- Education and Skills Training for Minorities’
iii. The loan funds will be used for interventions under this scheme to improve the employability and performance of minority youth in the labour market.
iv. Nai Manzil Scheme was launched on 8 August 2015 in Patna.
v. This central scheme is designed to address educational and livelihood needs of minority communities lagging behind in terms of educational attainments.

3. IRAN’S LEADING BANKS WILL SOON OPEN BRANCHES IN INDIA
i. Iran’s leading banks will open branches in India to enhance commercial ties between New Delhi and Tehran.
ii. The meeting was led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Iranian Finance Minister Ali Tayebnia .
iii. Both countries decided to allow the Pasargan Bank and Parsian Bank of Iran to set up branches in New Delhi and Mumbai.

4. RBI ASKED THE BANKS TO OPEN BANKS IN VILLAGES WITH A POPULATION OF MORE THAN 5000.
i. RBI has asked the bankers to open more brick and mortar branches in villages with no banking facilities and with a population of more than Five thousand.
ii. The RBI has asked banks to submit a report  on how many branches they will be opening by 31 March 2017
iii. This will also enable banks to provide quality financial services and timely support to Banking Correspondents.
iv.It will also improve and enhance Financial inclusion in Rural areas.

5. FILM-MAKER SHYAM BENEGAL TO HEAD PANEL ON CENSOR BOARD REVAMP
i. The Centre government has set up a Committee headed by  film-maker Shyam Benegal to end recent controversies relating to the Censor Board.
ii.The Committee will work out a revamp plan and submit its report within two months.
iii.The committee is expected to provide a “holistic framework and enable those tasked with the work of certification of films to perform  their responsibilities keeping in view this framework.

6. MUMBAI, DELHI IN WORLD’S TOP-30 ‘SUPER CITIES’
i. Two Indian cities Delhi and Mumbai have  topped in the  list of the world’s most powerful, productive and connected cities top-30 ‘super cities’
ii.India’s financial capital Mumbai has been ranked 22nd while the national capital Delhi is placed at 24th.
iii.The list is topped by Tokyo, followed by New York, London and Paris, make the top four ‘super cities’.

7. BENGAL GEARING UP FOR GANGA SAGAR MELA
i. The Ganga Sagar Mela is one of the biggest religious events of the country that witnesses the gathering of lakhs of pilgrims, is set for a revamp this year.
ii.It is held every year in the month of January  to February, on the Ganga Sagar Island  of the river Hooghly in Bengal.
iii.It is attended by thousands of pilgrims every year.

iv.It is belived that a dip in the water at this place, during Gangasagar Mela, is considered to be extremely sacred.

1. NDC TO BE SCRAPPED, NITI AAYOG COUNCIL LIKELY TO GET ITS POWERS
i. The Union government is going to scrap the National Development Council.
ii.  The Cabinet will take up its closure and also pass a resolution for transferring its powers to the Governing Council of the NITI Aayog shortly.
iii. National Development Council was set up on 6th August, 1952 and it served as “the highest decision-making authority” in the country on development matters.

2. 18 STATES AGREE TO REVOKE ‘NO DETENTION POLICY’ IN RTE
i.   Committee led by Rajasthan Education Minister Vasudev Devnani has sent recommendations to the Central government that the ‘no detention policy’ under the Right to Education Act should be revoked.
ii.  The committee had received the consent of 18 States to make amendments in the ‘no detention policy’ under the Right to Education Act.
iii. Under the no detention policy, no student can be failed or expelled till Class VIII.
iv. The committee stated that a ‘learning level’ must be fixed for each class to check whether a student is eligible for the class that he or she is in.

3. GLOBE SOCCER AWARDS 2015 CONFERRED
i.   The Globe Soccer presented the sixth edition of Globe Soccer Awards 2015 to the winners at a ceremony held in Dubai, UAE.
ii. Awarded for excellences in the field of football, Globe Soccer Awards are the first and only awards for the Best Club Director and the Best Agent of the Year.
ii. The awards conferred were based on the performance of the players and football clubs in 2015.

4. NAGI DAY CELEBRATED BY THE ARMY ON 28TH DECEMBER
i. The 44th Nagi Day was recently celebrated at Sriganganagar Military Station and Nagi in memory of gallant soldiers of the Indian Army.
ii.  Nagi a small village located in Sri Karanpur close to International Boundary where famous Battle of Nagi on 27-28 Dec 1971 was fought between India and Pakistan.
iii. The day is observed in the remembrance of those soldiers  who laid down their lives for the Nation .

5. RBI PANEL FOR DIRECT TRANSFER OF CASH, ABOLISHING FARM SUBSIDY
i.   A Committee of  Reserve Bank of India  on financial inclusion has suggested the government to transfer cash directly to persons in place of giving subsidies.
ii.  The committee has recommended government to replace interest subvention on agriculture loans with affordable universal crop insurance scheme.
iii. Key recommendations by the committee:
a.    Changes in  interest subvention scheme and ploughing the subsidy amount into a mandatory crop insurance scheme for small and marginal farmers
b.   Banks should  open more accounts for females
c.    Suggests stepping up financial inclusion in north-eastern, eastern and central states
d.   Recommended ‘Gold KCC’ scheme for good borrowers
e.    Recommended commercial banks to open specialized interest-free windows with simple products
f.     Recommended more bank credit to the MFI sector

6. VIRAT KOHLI NAMED CRICKETER OF THE YEAR' 2015 AND MITHALI RAJ PICKED FOR WOMEN'S TOP AWARD
i.   Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has been selected for 'Cricketer of the Year' award 2015.
ii.  Mithali Raj was selected for the top women's award in the BCCI annual honours.
iii. Former wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani will behonoured with the Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.

7. DAVA PROJECT OF DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE WON 2015 EASIA AWARD
i.   Drug Authentication and Verification Application Project  won the 2015 eASIA Award under Trade Facilitation category.
II.       The award was announced by Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business in Tehran, Iran.
ii.  DAVA is an platform for implementation of the Track and Trace system both for exports and domestic markets of Drugs and Pharmaceuticals.
iii. The project was started last year by the Department of Commerce.
iv. The main aim of the project is to provide simpler means to the consumer and regulatory agencies for establishing drug authentication and protect the India’s Brand image in international trade.

8. TERROR ATTACK AT PATHANKOT AIR FORCE BASE AND 4 TERRORISTS KILLED
i.   The terrorists attacked Pathankot Air Force Base Punjab, four to five militants believed to be from the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist group attacked in the early morning with an aim of destroying the air base.
ii.  The Gun battle between Terrorists and security forces lasted for more than five hours.
iii. The four militants were killed in the battle and two jawans were also martyred and six sustained injuries.
iv. It is the second major terrorist attack on Punjab earlier terrorists attackede in Dinanagar in Gurdaspur  July last year.

9. VOCALIST SANJAY SUBRAHMANYAM CONFERRED WITH 2015 SANGITA KALANIDHI AWARD
i. South Indian classical vocalists Sanjay Subrahmanyam was conferred with the 2015 Sangita Kalanidhi award in tamil nadu.

ii. Sangita Kalanidhi award is a award given annually to an expert of Carnatic Music by the Madras Music Academy.
