1. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED NATIONAL JOB PORTAL FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
i. The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot launched the National level Job portal www.disabilityjobs.gov.in for Persons with Disabilities.
ii. The Ministry aims to carry out skill training programme for 5 lakh Persons with Disabilities in next 3 years.
iii. It will empower persons with disabilities by providing them all desired information for employment opportunities on single window platform.

2. 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF LALA LAJPAT RAI
i. 150th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai is being celebrated on 28th January 2016.
ii. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesari, The Lion of Punjab and also known as Sher-E- Punjab for his contribution to the freedom movement.
iii. To celebrate this occasion a state level function has been organised in Punjab at village Dhudi Ke, the birth place of Lala Lajpat Rai in Moga district.
iv. Some of his famous books are The Story of My Deportation, Arya Samaj, Unhappy India.

3. ADAM LEWIS HEADED INDEPENDENT REVIEW PANEL TO SAFEGUARD INTEGRITY IN TENNIS
i. Tennis’s governing bodies constituted a Independent Review Panel headed by Adam Lewis to safeguard integrity in tennis.
ii. The panel is formed to review the functioning of the existing anti-corruption policies and suggest measures to safeguard the integrity of the game.
iii. The panel was formed against the backdrop of reports on corruption allegations in the international tennis arena by the BBC and Buzzfeed News.

4. AUSTRALIAN BATSMAN DAVID WARNER WON ALLAN BORDER MEDAL 2016
i. Australian batsman David Warner defeated Captain Steve Smith for the prestigious Allan Border Medal for 2016.
ii. Allan Border Medal  is considered to be the most prestigious individual prize in Australian cricket.
iii. The medal is named after former Australian captain Allan Border known for as most outstanding Australian cricketer.

5. JAPANESE AUTOMAKER TOYOTA TOPS IN GLOBAL VEHICLE SALES IN 2015
i. Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation has topped in global vehicle sales in 2015.
ii. Toyota topped by selling 10.151 million vehicles become as the world’s top-selling automaker for the fourth year.

iii. The second place is grabbed by German automaker Volkswagen followed by General Motors.

1. INDIA CELEBRATES 67TH REPUBLIC DAY
i. India celebrated 67th Republic day on 26th January 2016 by displaying its cultural diversity, economic progress and military might were on display at Rajpath, New Delhi.
ii. French President Francois Hollande was chief guest on Republic Day function.
iii. He became 5th highest dignitary from France to be Chief Guest of Indian Republic Day parade.
iii. The Parade was led by Lieutenant General Rajan Ravindran.

2. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES SAHAJ SCHEME FOR ONLINE BOOKING OF LPG CYLINDERS
i. Union Government has launched Sahaj Scheme for online booking of LPG cylinders.
ii. India is celebrating 2016-Year as year of LPG Consumers.
iii. Sahaj will help Consumers to book LPG cylinders online through the web portal www.mylpg.in which is available in 13 languages

3. PRESIDENT RULE IMPOSED IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH
i. President rule is imposed by the president on the recommendation of the government.
ii. The Union Cabinet approved the imposition of President Rule on the state after expiration of six month deadline under which the Assembly was supposed to meet.
iii. The President rule is imposed under Article 356 of the Constitution of India.

4.  KERALA DENTIST SAJEEV KOSHY HONOURED WITH ORDER OF AUSTRALIA
i. A Kerala dentist Sajeev Koshy was honoured with the highest civilian honour, the Order of Australia.
ii. The award is given for his contributions to dentistry in Australia.
iii. The Order of Australia is awarded to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or meritorious service.

5. INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS DAY OBSERVED ON 26TH JANUARY
i. The International Customs Day was observed on 26th January 2016.
ii. The day is organised in commemoration of formation of World Customs Organisation on 26 January 1953.
iii. World Customs Organisation is an intergovernmental organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

6. IZUMO TAKUTO AND ZHU CHENGZHU WON ITTF WORLD JUNIOR CIRCUIT FINALS
i. Japan's Izumo Takuto and Hong Kong's Zhu Chengzhu became champions in the boys' and girls' categorie in the ITTF World Junior Circuit Finals in Madhya Pradesh.
ii. International Table Tennis Federation  is the governing body for all international table tennis associations.
iii. The main aim of ITTF is to oversee rules and regulations and technological improvement in table tennis.

7. 6TH NATIONAL VOTERS’ DAY OBSERVED ON 25TH JANUARY
i. 6th National Voters’ Day was observed on 25th January 2016 by the Election Commission of India.
ii. The theme of the day is ‘Inclusive and Qualitative Participation’.
iii. The day is observed with an aim to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones.

1. ACTRESS REKHA HONOURED WITH YASH CHOPRA MEMORIAL AWARD
i. Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha MP Rekha has been honoured with the Yash Chopra Memorial Award.
ii. The award is given for her talent and contribution to the film industry.
iii. Yash Chopra Memorial Award is an annual award given for outstanding contribution to film industry  in the memory of the producer-director Yash Chopra who died in 2012.

2. FRENCH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS HOLLANDE CONCLUDED THREE-DAY VISIT TO INDIA
i. French President Francois Hollande visited India from 24 January to 26th January as the Chief Guest at India's 67th Republic Day celebrations.
ii. It was President Hollande's second state Visit to India.
iii. Major Highlights of the Visit
a.    He inspected the Guard of Honour during the Ceremonial Reception in New Delhi
b.   He witnessed the 67th Republic Day Parade at New Delhi
c.    Hollande and Modi jointly inaugurated the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Secretariat in Gurgaon.
d.   French military contingent participated in the republic day parade of India making France the first country to receive such an honour.
e.     India and France inked 14 Agreements on purchase of 36 Rafale Aircrafts.

3. PRESIDENT PRANAB MUKHERJEE ANNOUNCED 2016 PADMA AWARDS
i. President Pranab Mukherjee  announced the winners of the Padma Awards 2016.

i. Transparency International released the Corruption Perceptions Index after measuring the levels of public sector corruption in 168 countries and territories across the world.
ii. Denmark is ranked on the first palce adjudged as the most corruption-free country among the other countries.

1. JAN DHAN ACCOUNTS DEPOSITS CROSSED RS. 30,000 CRORE
i. Deposits in accounts opened under the financial inclusion programme Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana have crossed the Rs. 30,000 crore mark.
ii. Under this programme 20.38 crore bank accounts were openedand these bank accounts had deposits of Rs. 30,638.29 crore.

2. FIRST MINISTERIAL MEETING OF ARAB AND INDIAN COOPERATION FORUM HELD MANAMA
i. The first Ministerial Meeting of Arab and Indian Cooperation Forum was held Manama, Bahrain.
ii. The meeting was chaired by Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and from india it was attended by Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
iii. The meeting was held to strengthen the economic, trade and financial cooperation.

3. PV SINDHU GRABBED 2016 MALAYSIA MASTERS GRAND PRIX GOLD BADMINTON TITLE
i.  Indian Shuttler Pusarla Venkata Sindhu has won the 2016 Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold Badminton title.
ii. She has defeated Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour by 21-15, 21-9 score.

4. AP GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED GIRIPUTRIKA KALYANA PATHAKAM SCHEME FOR TRIBAL PEOPLE
i. Andhra Pradesh Government launched Giriputrika Kalyana Pathakam Scheme to support the tribal women in their quest for livelihood.
ii. The scheme will reduce infant mortality and child marriages among tribal people.
iii. It will provide a onetime financial assistance of 50000 rupees to each tribal woman who gets married.

5. INDIA’S LARGEST FLAG WITH TALLEST FLAGPOLE HOISTED AT RANCHI
i. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar hoisted the largest flag of the country in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
ii. The flag is 66 feet in height and 99 feet in width and hoisted on a 293 feet-tall pole.
iii. The flag was unveiled to mark the National Defence Day.

6. INDIA WON BLIND T20 ASIA CUP AFTER DEFEATING PAKISTAN
i. India won the first T20 Asia cup cricket for Blind played at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium of Kochi.
ii. In the final match India defeated Pakistan by 44 runs.

1. IZUMO TAKUTO AND ZHU CHENGZHU WON ITTF WORLD JUNIOR CIRCUIT FINALS
i. Japanese player Izumo Takuto and Hong Kong's Zhu Chengzhu won championship in the boys' and girls' categories at 2015 ITTF World Junior Circuit Finals in Madhya Pradesh.
ii. The International Table Tennis Federation is the governing body for all international table tennis associations.
iii. The ITTF is responsible for the management of international competitions including the World Junior Circuit and the World Table Tennis Championships.

2. AUSTRALIA WON FIVE-MATCH ODI SERIES AGAINST INDIA
i. Australia won the five match One Day International series against India by 4-1.
ii. In the final match India defeated Australia by 6 wickets.
iii. This is the first time that any team has chased more than 300 runs to complete victory against Australia in their own country.
iv. Man of the Series award is given to Rohit Sharma from India.

3. JAPAN LIFTED NUCLEAR SANCTIONS ON IRAN
i. Japan lifted sanctions on Iran after the United Nations atomic energy agency confirmed that Tehran has taken steps to curb its disputed nuclear programme.
ii. Now the move will allow Japanese companies to continue investment in Iran's oil and gas industry.

4. TRANSERV LAUNCHES INDIA'S FIRST SOCIAL MOBILE WALLET UDIO
i. India’s digital payment startup company TranServ has launched country’s first Social Mobile Wallet named Udio.
ii. The digital wallet will help to address the gap between real and virtual modes of payment as it has more social experience.
iii. It integrates a social, community-driven aspect with anytime, anywhere accessibility to digital P2P transactions.
iv. It is easy to use approach for making cashless payments similar to mobile banking.

5. EMINENT TABLA PLAYER SHANKAR GHOSH PASSED AWAY
i. Tabla player Pandit Shankar Ghosh died in Kolkata due to long illness.
ii. Pandit Shankar Ghosh is known for his jugalbandi with classical musician sitarists Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Vilayat Khan.

6. BEST COUNTRIES REPORT RELEASED AT WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
i. Best Countries report released at World Economic Forum about the ranking of 60 nations.
ii. Germany has topped in the list as best country in the world followed by Canada and the United Kingdom.
iii. India is ranked as the 22nd best country in the World.
iv. Sweden is recognized as the most modern country and the Best Country to Raise Kids and the No. 1 nation for Green Living.
v. Denmark is named the Best Country for Women and United States is named the most powerful country.

7. 2016 NTI NUCLEAR SECURITY INDEX RELEASED
i. Nuclear Threat Initiative a think-tank of U.S released the 2016 Nuclear Security Index.
ii. The theme of the index is Building a Framework for Assurance, Accountability, and Action.
iii. The Index has assessed global nuclear security conditions in 176 countries in two areas relating to the potential theft of weapons usable nuclear materials and the potential sabotage of nuclear facilities.

iv. Australia was ranked at top as the safest country and India was ranked 21st.
