1. 30TH   SURAJKUND INTERNATIONAL CRAFTS MELA BEGIN AT FARIDABAD.
i. The 30th Surajkund International Crafts Mela began at Surajkund in Faridabad, Haryana.
ii. The event that will continue till 15 February 2016 was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
iii. Telangana was selected as the Theme State and will showcase its unique culture and rich heritage.
iv. Chhattisgarh was chosen as the Theme State for the 29th Surajkund International Crafts Mela-2015.
v. 23 countries will be participating in event with China and Japan being the two focus countries.

2. ADITYA MEHTA WON 83RD SENIOR NATIONAL SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP.
i. Aditya Mehta  won 83rd  Senior National Snooker Championship in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
ii. Aditya Mehta defeated Manan Chandra in the final to won the Championship .
iii. In women’s category  Vidya Pillai won the National Snooker Championship by defeating Amee Kamani.

3. KIDAMBI SRIKANTH GRABBED MEN'S SINGLES TITLE OF SYED MODI INTERNATIONAL BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016.
i. Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth grabbed the Men's Singles title of the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships in Lucknow.
ii. Kidambi Srikanth has defeated China's Huang Yuxiang to won the championship.
iii. Syed Modi International Badminton Championships  is named after a famous Indian badminton player Syed Modi, an eight-time National Badminton champion.

4. KAMLESH KUMAR APPOINTED AS CHIEF COMMISSIONER FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES.
i. Kamlesh Kumar Pandey was appointed as the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities for a period of three years.
ii. The Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities is appointed by the Union Government from persons having special knowledge or practical experience in matters relating to rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.

5. FUKUOKA TO HOST 2021 WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
i. The International Swimming Federation announced that the Japanese city of Fukuoka will host the 2021 World Aquatics Championships.
ii. In 2023 Doha will host the World aquatics championship.
iii. World Aquatics Championships include World Championships for aquatics sports such as Swimming, High Diving, Open Water Swimming, Synchronized Swimming and Water Polo.

6. BIHAR CM NITISH KUMAR TO GET K VEERAMANI AWARD FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE.
i. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was selected to honour with K Veeramani Award for Social Justice 2015.
ii. He chosen for the award for his contribution towards social justice as Chief Minister.

iii. The award is started in the honour of Dr. K. Veeramani to recognize and remember his contributions in creat awareness in India on social equality and respect for human dignity.

1.  KK JALAN IS APPOINTED AS SECRETARY IN MSME
i. The government has appointed KK Jalan as Secretary to Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
ii. Kk Jalan will replace Anup K Pujari due to his retirement.
iii. The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is a branch of the Government of India for the formulation and administration of rules, regulations and laws relating to micro, small and medium enterprises in India.

2. ANGELIQUE KERBER WON AUSTRALIAN OPEN WOMEN’S SINGLE TENNIS
i. Angelique Kerber became the first German to win  the Australian Open women’s singles tennis title  in Melbourne, Australia.
ii. She has defeated the world number 1 player Serena Williams of the USA.
iii. In 2015 the event was won by Serena William.

3. INDIA EXPORTED SIX METRO TRAIN COACHES TO AUSTRALIA
i. Union Ministry of Shipping exported six metro coaches to Australia from Mumbai.
ii. The shipment was done under the deal with Australian government to export 450 made-in-India coaches in two and a half year period.

4. NOVAK DJOKOVIC WON THE 2016 AUSTRALIAN OPEN MEN'S SINGLES TITLE
i. World Number 1 player Novak Djokovic  won the Australian Open Men’s Singles title.
ii. Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray of Britain in the Australian open men’s single Title.

5. INDIA WON THREE-MATCH T-20 SERIES AGAINST AUSTRALIA BY 3-0
i. India won the three-match T-20 series against Australia after defeating by 3-0 in Sydney.
ii. Shane Watson  was declared the Man of the Match.
iii. Virat Kohli of India was declared as the player of the series.
iv. Indian men's team became the number one in the ICC T20 rankings.

6. BOOK TITLED NATHURAM GODSE - THE STORY OF AN ASSASSIN RELEASED
i. Nathuram Godse  The Story of an Assassin: Anup Ashok Sardesai authored by Anup Ashok Sardesai was released.
ii. The book narrates the story of Nathuram Vinayakrao Godse who died an untimely death and his brother suffered a life of immense mental torture.
iii. The book was released on the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

1. PUDUCHERRY LT GOVERNOR AK SINGH LAUNCHED MITRA APP FOR WOMEN SAFETY
i. Lt Governor of Puducherry AK Singh launched the MITRA mobile application to ensure safety and security of women in the Union Territory.
ii. The Android based application can send emergency messages when in danger or emergency.
iii. The person in danger need only press the power button of his/her mobile three times.
iv. The application can be used by anyone more useful to women, children and the aged.

2. DR. KAMLESH KUMAR PANDEY APPOINTED AS CHIEF COMMISSIONER FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
i. Union Government has appointed Dr. Kamlesh Kumar Pandey as the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities  for a period of three years.
ii. Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities  is appointed by the Central Government from persons having special knowledge or practical experience in matters relating to rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
iii. He is responsible to safeguard the rights and facilities made available to persons with disabilities.

3. NITISH KUMAR SELECTED FOR K VEERAMANI SOCIAL JUSTICE AWARD
i. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been chosen for the prestigious K Veeramani Social Justice Award.
ii. the award is given for his contribution for the cause of social justice especially for upliftment of weaker and marginalised sections of the society.
iii. K Veeramani Social Justice Award is the  annual award has been instituted by US-based Periyar International, an organisation of non-resident followers of Dalit icon Periyar EV Ramasami.

4. KERALA TO HOST GLOBAL SKILL SUMMIT
i.  Kerala will host a ‘Nypunyam International Skill Summit and Skill Fiesta 2016’.
ii. The main aim of the summit is to curb the gap between the job market requirement and the skill level of available workforce.
iii. The main focus will be on improving the skill levels and bringing them up to world standards to achieve the Prime Minister’s initiative for skilling 500 million young people by 2020iii. The Nypunyam summit will be jointly organised by Directorate of Employment and Training and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence, Jose pointed out.

5. INDIA OVERTAKES THAILAND AS WORLD'S LARGEST RICE EXPORTER
i. India has overtaken Thailand as the world’s largest rice exporter in the year 2015 by shipping 10.23 million tonnes of rice.
ii. It was announced by the Bangkok based Thai Rice Exporters Association Chairman Charoen Laodhammatas.
iii. largest producer of rice in india is Westbengal.

6. IPS OFFICER APARNA KUMAR BECAME INDIA'S FIRST CIVIL SERVANT TO SCALE MOUNT VINSON MASSIF
i. Aparna Kumar IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh , became India's first civil servant to scale Mount Vinson Massif  the highest peak in the Antarctica.
ii. She hoisted the Tricolour and the flag of the Uttar Pradesh Police Service on Mount Vinson Massif.

1. UNION GOVERNMENT SHORTLIST 20 CITIES UNDER SMART CITIES MISSION
i. The Union Ministry of Urban Development has shortlisted 20 cities from 11 States and Delhi Union Territory in the list of first batch of Smart Cities Mission.
ii. The list of shortlisted Smart cities are:
a.    3 are from Madhya Pradesh
b.   2 each are from Maharashtra, Rajasthan Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh
c.    1 each from Odisha, Kerala, Delhi , Assam and Punjab.
iii. A smart city is highly advanced urban region in terms of overall infrastructure, communications, sustainable real estate and market viability.

2. IMF IMPLEMENTED 2010 QUOTA AND GOVERNANCE REFORMS
i. The International Monetary Fund implemented the long-pending 2010 Quota and Governance Reforms.
ii. The reforms are major step towards the increasing role of dynamic emerging market and developing countries.
iii. Highlights of the Reforms:
a.    For the first time, emerging market of four countries- Brazil, China, India, and Russia will be among the 10 largest members of the IMF.
b.   Other top 10 members include the United States, Japan, and the four largest European countries France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
c.    India’s voting rights increased to 2.6 percent from the current 2.3 percent.

3. SANIA MIRZA, MARTINA HINGIS WON 2016 AUSTRALIAN OPEN WOMEN'S DOUBLES TENNIS TITLE
i. Sania Mirza with his Swiss partner Martina Hingis  won the 2016 Australian Open title of tennis in the women’s doubles category.
ii. They defeated Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka  in Melbourne, Australia.
iii. Sania mira and martina Hingis won their maiden Australian Open title and the third successive Grand Slam doubles title after winning 2015 Wimbledon and US Open.

4. NAVNEET KAUR AND SANTOSH KADALE WON GOLD IN SENIOR NATIONAL ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP
i. Punjab’s Navneet Kaur won two gold medals in the 34th Senior National Rowing Championship in Hyderabad.
ii. It was her maiden gold at the country’s highest level in the senior category.
iii. In the men single category Santosh Kadale won his maiden national gold.

5. NISID HAJARI WON 2016 WILLIAM E. COLBY AWARD FOR BEST MILITARY BOOK
i. Nisid Hajari won the 2016 William E. Colby Award for his book “Midnight’s Furies: The Deadly Legacy of India’s Partition”
ii. The Midnight’s Furies: The Deadly Legacy of India’s Partition explains the 1947 partition of India.
 iii. William E. Colby Award is awarded to recognize a first work of fiction or non-fiction that has made a major contribution to the understanding of intelligence operations, military history or international affairs.

6. COMMEMORATIVE COIN OF 150 RUPEES & CIRCULATION COIN OF 10 RUPEES ON LALA LAJPAT RAI RELEASED
i. Ministry of Culture  released a commemorative coin of 150 rupees and a circulation coin of 10 rupees on Lala Lajpat Rai.
ii. The coin was released by Dr Mahesh Sharma Minister of Tourism & Culture on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai.

iii. Lala Lajpat Rai is  stalwart of the freedom struggle,popularly known as ‘Punjab Kesari’ or ‘The Lion of Punjab’.

1. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED NATIONAL JOB PORTAL FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
i. The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot launched the National level Job portal www.disabilityjobs.gov.in for Persons with Disabilities.
ii. The Ministry aims to carry out skill training programme for 5 lakh Persons with Disabilities in next 3 years.
iii. It will empower persons with disabilities by providing them all desired information for employment opportunities on single window platform.

2. 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF LALA LAJPAT RAI
i. 150th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai is being celebrated on 28th January 2016.
ii. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesari, The Lion of Punjab and also known as Sher-E- Punjab for his contribution to the freedom movement.
iii. To celebrate this occasion a state level function has been organised in Punjab at village Dhudi Ke, the birth place of Lala Lajpat Rai in Moga district.
iv. Some of his famous books are The Story of My Deportation, Arya Samaj, Unhappy India.

3. ADAM LEWIS HEADED INDEPENDENT REVIEW PANEL TO SAFEGUARD INTEGRITY IN TENNIS
i. Tennis’s governing bodies constituted a Independent Review Panel headed by Adam Lewis to safeguard integrity in tennis.
ii. The panel is formed to review the functioning of the existing anti-corruption policies and suggest measures to safeguard the integrity of the game.
iii. The panel was formed against the backdrop of reports on corruption allegations in the international tennis arena by the BBC and Buzzfeed News.

4. AUSTRALIAN BATSMAN DAVID WARNER WON ALLAN BORDER MEDAL 2016
i. Australian batsman David Warner defeated Captain Steve Smith for the prestigious Allan Border Medal for 2016.
ii. Allan Border Medal  is considered to be the most prestigious individual prize in Australian cricket.
iii. The medal is named after former Australian captain Allan Border known for as most outstanding Australian cricketer.

5. JAPANESE AUTOMAKER TOYOTA TOPS IN GLOBAL VEHICLE SALES IN 2015
i. Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation has topped in global vehicle sales in 2015.
ii. Toyota topped by selling 10.151 million vehicles become as the world’s top-selling automaker for the fourth year.

iii. The second place is grabbed by German automaker Volkswagen followed by General Motors.

1. INDIA CELEBRATES 67TH REPUBLIC DAY
i. India celebrated 67th Republic day on 26th January 2016 by displaying its cultural diversity, economic progress and military might were on display at Rajpath, New Delhi.
ii. French President Francois Hollande was chief guest on Republic Day function.
iii. He became 5th highest dignitary from France to be Chief Guest of Indian Republic Day parade.
iii. The Parade was led by Lieutenant General Rajan Ravindran.

2. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES SAHAJ SCHEME FOR ONLINE BOOKING OF LPG CYLINDERS
i. Union Government has launched Sahaj Scheme for online booking of LPG cylinders.
ii. India is celebrating 2016-Year as year of LPG Consumers.
iii. Sahaj will help Consumers to book LPG cylinders online through the web portal www.mylpg.in which is available in 13 languages

3. PRESIDENT RULE IMPOSED IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH
i. President rule is imposed by the president on the recommendation of the government.
ii. The Union Cabinet approved the imposition of President Rule on the state after expiration of six month deadline under which the Assembly was supposed to meet.
iii. The President rule is imposed under Article 356 of the Constitution of India.

4.  KERALA DENTIST SAJEEV KOSHY HONOURED WITH ORDER OF AUSTRALIA
i. A Kerala dentist Sajeev Koshy was honoured with the highest civilian honour, the Order of Australia.
ii. The award is given for his contributions to dentistry in Australia.
iii. The Order of Australia is awarded to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or meritorious service.

5. INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS DAY OBSERVED ON 26TH JANUARY
i. The International Customs Day was observed on 26th January 2016.
ii. The day is organised in commemoration of formation of World Customs Organisation on 26 January 1953.
iii. World Customs Organisation is an intergovernmental organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

6. IZUMO TAKUTO AND ZHU CHENGZHU WON ITTF WORLD JUNIOR CIRCUIT FINALS
i. Japan's Izumo Takuto and Hong Kong's Zhu Chengzhu became champions in the boys' and girls' categorie in the ITTF World Junior Circuit Finals in Madhya Pradesh.
ii. International Table Tennis Federation  is the governing body for all international table tennis associations.
iii. The main aim of ITTF is to oversee rules and regulations and technological improvement in table tennis.

7. 6TH NATIONAL VOTERS’ DAY OBSERVED ON 25TH JANUARY
i. 6th National Voters’ Day was observed on 25th January 2016 by the Election Commission of India.
ii. The theme of the day is ‘Inclusive and Qualitative Participation’.
iii. The day is observed with an aim to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones.
