1. INDIA AND NEPAL COMBINED MILITARY EXERCISE SURYA KIRAN IX STARTED IN UTTARAKHAND
i. India and Nepal Combined Military Exercise Surya Kiran IX has been started in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand.
ii. During Surya Kiran IX exercise both armies will focus on upgradation of practical and tactical skills by sharing each other’s experiences.
iii. They will also focus on enhancing interoperability in Counter Terrorism and Jungle Warfare operations in mountain terrain.

2. VISHAL MEHTA APPOINTED AS PRESIDENT OF INTERNATIONAL GROWN DIAMOND ASSOCIATION
i. Vishal Mehta was appointed as the President of the International Grown Diamond Association.
ii. It is a newly formed platform of more than Ten leading grown diamond producers, distributors and retailers.
iii. It is founded by the US with an aim to serve as the central path of communication,development and growth of the industry.

3. JOSHNA CHINAPPA CLINCHED SQUASH INDIVIDUAL GOLD AT THE SOUTH ASIAN GAMES
i. Joshna Chinappa grabbed  the gold medal in women's individual squash at the South Asian Games in Guwahati.
ii. He won the gold medal after defeating Maria Toorpaki Wazir of Pakistan.

 4. 12TH SOUTH ASIAN GAMES INAUGURATED IN GUWAHATI
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated  12th  South Asian Games at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati, Assam.
ii. The South Asian Games demonstrate 3-Ts which means Team Work, Togetherness and Talent.
iii. 2500 athletes from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives will be part of the games.
iv. The official slogan of the Games is ‘Play for Peace, Progress and Prosperity’.
v. The official mascot of the event is Tikhor, a one-horned rhino.

5. FORMER NEPAL PRIME MINISTER SUSHIL KOIRALA DIED
i. Nepal’s former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala passed away in Kathmandu due to chronic respiratory problem.
ii. Sushil Koirala had played important role  in adoption of Nepal's new constitution in September 2015

6. MAHINDRA AMC RECEIVED SEBI NOD FOR MUTUAL FUND BUSINESS
i. Mahindra Asset Management Company received Securities and Exchange Board of India’s  approval  for starting the Mahindra Mutual Fund.
ii. Mahindra AMC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services.
iii. Presently 40 mutual fund houses are operating in the country.

7. UNION GOVERNMENT TO SET UP NATIONAL ORGANIC FARMING RESEARCH INSTITUTE IN SIKKIM
i. The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is going to set up the National Organic Farming Research Institute in Sikkim.
ii. Union Government is also  helping the  State Government  in sustaining the organic farming and also in marketing  the State’s organic products.
iii. Recently Sikkim was officially declared as first fully organic state in India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

1.  UNPA UNVEILED COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS TO PROMOTE LGBT EQUALITY
i. The United Nations Postal Administration released a set of six commemorative stamps to promote UN Free & Equal, a global United Nations campaign for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.
ii. The campaign was launched and led by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights
iii. The colourful stamps were designed by artist and UNPA art director Sergio Baradat.
iv. The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness of homophobic and transphobic violence and discrimination globally.

2. PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI INAUGURATED PARADIP OIL REFINERY IN ODISHA
i. PM Narendra Modi  inaugurated the Paradip Oil Refinery in Odisha.
ii. Paradip refinery is one of the most modern refineries in the world which can process cheaper high sulphur heavy crude oils.
iv. The refinery will produce petrol and diesel of Bharat Stage IV
  
3. AUSTRALIA WON THREE-MATCH WOMEN ODI SERIES AGAINST INDIA
i. The Australian women cricket team won the three-match ODI series against Indian women team

4. ICC SUSPENDED PAKISTAN'S LEG-SPINNER YASIR SHAH FOR DOPING OFFENCE
i. International Cricket Council suspended Pakistan’s leg-spinner Yasir Shah for three months.
ii. He was suspended after he tested positive for a banned substance, chlortalidone.
iii. Chlortalidone is also used to treat high blood pressure and it is banned by WADA.

5. SAPNA DEVI WON GOLD IN WOMEN WUSHU TAULU COMPETITION
i. Sapna Devi  clinched gold for India in the women Wushu Taulu  Competition of the 12th South Asian Games held Laitkor in Shillong.
ii. Sapna devi bagged gold and the silver medal is won by Susmita Tamang of Nepal
iii. In the men's section, India’s Anjul Namdeo won a bronze medal and the gold went to Sri Lankan player P.L. H Lakshan

iv. Wushu is derived from traditional Chinese martial arts.

1. PROJECT SUNRISE LAUNCHED FOR PREVENTION OF AIDS IN NE STATES
i. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda launched Project Sunrise on for prevention of AIDS.
ii. The project is specially launched to make people aware about injecting drugs in the 8 North-Eastern states.
iii. The project has been sponsored by US based Centre for Disease Control and would be implemented by Family Health International 360.

2. SUSHMA SWARAJ INAUGURATED RISE OF DIGITAL INDIA EXHIBITION IN COLOMBO
i. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the Rise of Digital India Exhibition in Colombo.
ii. The exhibition was a part of Sangam -The Festival of India in Sri Lanka 2015-16.
iii. The Rise of Digital India exhibition showcases the initiative of Indian government to take the benefits of Information Technology to the common man.

3. INTERNATIONAL FLEET REVIEW 2016 KICK STARTED IN VIZAG
i. The International Fleet Review 2016 an international military exercise hosted and conducted by Indian Navy was inaugurated in Visakhapatnam.
ii. The Theme of this exercise iss “United through Oceans”
iii. The objective of the exercise is to enhance mutual trust and confidence with neighbouring navies by inviting their ships to participate in the event.
iv. Naval ships from 50 countries will participate in the event.

4. FIRST JOINT TACTICAL EXERCISE SINO AND INDIA COOPERATION 2016 HELD IN CHUSUL-MOLDO
i. India and China held first joint tactical military exercise Sino-India 2016 in was held in Chusul-Moldo the area is located along the Line of Actual Control in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.
ii. The exercise is part of the ongoing initiatives taken by India and China to ensure greater interaction between troops stationed along the LoAC.

5. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED 24X7 TOLL FREE TOURIST INFOLINE IN 12 INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES
i. Union government has launched the 24x7 Toll Free Tourist Infoline in 12 International Languages including Hindi and English in New Delhi.
ii. The Tourist Infoline Project will provide information relating to Travel and Tourism in India to the national and International visitors.

6. FRANCE BECAME FIRST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD TO BAN SUPERMARKET FOOD WASTE
i. France became the first country to pass a law to ban large food stores from throwing away food which is going to expire
ii. France has become the first country in the world to ban supermarkets from throwing away or destroying unsold food.

iii. The main objective is to force them to donate it to charities and food banks inspite of throwing outside.

1. RBI RELAXES FDI NORMS TO BOOST START-UPS
i. The Reserve Bank of India has relaxed rules for foreign direct investment norms to boost start-up activity in the country.
ii. Start-ups are allowed to receive foreign venture capital investment earlier only Venture Capital Funds and Indian Venture Capital.

2. PACIFIC RIM NATIONS SIGNED TRANS-PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT
i. All twelve Pacific Rim countries signed the US-led Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement in New Zealand.
ii. It is one of the biggest trade deals in history.
iii. The deal looks to promote investment between 12 countries across the Pacific Rim.
iv. The agreement was signed by Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States of America and Vietnam.

3. VICE PRESIDENT HAMID ANSARI CONCLUDED HIS TWO-NATION TOUR TO THAILAND AND BRUNEI
i. Vice-President Hamid Ansari concluded his two-nation tour to Thailand and Brunei.
ii. He visited the country on the invitation of Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.
iii. Hamid Ansari became the first Vice President to visit Brunei
iv. He also visited the Thailand on official invitation of the Prime Minister of Thailand Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.
v. It was also the first Vice Presidential visit from India after a gap of 50 years.
vi. He confirmed Indai’s participation in the Cobra Gold 2016 military exercise that will be held in Thailand.

4. 12TH SOUTH ASIAN GAMES INAUGURATED IN GUWAHATI
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugrated the 12th South Asian Games 2016 open at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati, Assam.
ii. Narendra  Modi said the South Asian Games demonstrate 3-Ts and they are Team Work, Togetherness and Talent.

5. UNION GOVERNMENT APPROVED HERITAGE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOR ANDHRA PRADESH AND TELANGANA
i. Union Ministry of Urban Development  approved projects worth over 12 crore rupees for improving tourist infrastructure in heritage places of Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh and Warangal in Telangana.
ii. Amaravati and Warangal are among the 12 cities included in the Heritage Development and Augmentation Yojana  known as HRIDAY for improving the social, cultural and economic ecosystems.

6 MEET ON `MAKE IN INDIA' IN MANGALORE
i. TheBesant Institute of Postgraduate Management Studies conducted  a conference on ‘Make in India’ on 5th Feburary in manglore.

1. FINANCE MINISTRY SETS UP 2 PANELS TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY IN TAX POLICIES
i. The finance ministry with a view to bring consistency in taxation policy has set up two committees one under Finance Minister and other under Revenue Secretary.
ii. The two committees would start functioning from April 1, 2016.
iii. The two committees are:
a.    Tax Policy Council will be headed by the Union Finance Minister and it aims to have a consistent and coherent approach to the issue of tax policy and suggest broad policy measures for taxation.
b.    Tax Policy Research Unit will be headed by the Revenue Secretary and will be a multi disciplinary body. Tax Policy Research Unit will carry out studies on various topics of fiscal and tax policies and assist the TPC in taking appropriate policy decisions.

2. ARUNA SETHI APPOINTED AS FIRST WOMEN HEAD OF INDIAN COST ACCOUNTING SERVICE
i. Aruna Sethi is appointed  as the head of Indian Cost Accounts Service .
ii. She became the first woman to be appointed as head of the Indian cost accounting service.
iii. Indian Cost Accounts Service is  accounting service of the Government of India started in  1978.

3. SARANGI MAESTRO PANDIT RAM NARAYAN SELECTED FOR BHIMSEN JOSHI AWARD
i. Sarangi maestro Pandit Ram Narayan was selected for the Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Classical Music Award for 2015-2016.
ii. Pandit Ram Narayan is known as best instrument sarangi master and he became the first internationally successful sarangi player.
iii. Bhimsen Joshi Award is an annual award started by the Maharashtra  given  to individuals who have excelled in classical vocal or instrumental music.

4. PACIFIC RIM NATIONS SIGNED TRANS-PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT

5. DJ PANDIAN APPOINTED AIIB VICE-PRESIDENT
i. D J Pandian has been appointed vice-president and chief investment officer  of  Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
ii. Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank  is  set up to boost lending for infrastructure projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
iii. It will fund infrastructural projects such as energy, urban construction, transportation and logistics as well as education and healthcare.

6. KERALA WINS 61ST NATIONAL SCHOOL ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

7. MAJOR GENERAL JAI SHANKER MENON APPOINTED AS UNDOF HEAD
i. Major General Jai Shanker Menon of India has been appointed as the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force .
ii. He will replace Lt Gen Purna Chandra Thapa of Nepal.

iii. United Nations Disengagement Observer Force was established in 1974 by United Nations Security Council after the agreed disengagement of Syrian and Israeli forces to maintain the ceasefire between Syrian and Israeli forces.
