1. SEVEN INDIAN SHUTTLERS QUALIFY FOR RIO OLYMPICS
i. Seven Indian shuttlers have booked their berth for the upcoming Rio Olympics, scheduled in August.

2. CORPORTION BANK GETS MSME AWARD
i. Corporation Bank has been given ‘excellence award on empowering MSMEs’ .
ii. The award is given by the Federation of Industry, Trade and Services.
iii. The bank had achieved the regulatory target of 7 per cent of annual net bank credit under micro enterprises for 2015-16.

3. WILFUL DEFAULTERS OWE RS 66,000 CR TO GOVT BANKS
i. The Minister of state for Finance Jayant Sinha has stated that there were 7,686 wilful defaulters owing Rs 66,190 crore to state-owned banks as of December 2015.
ii. The number of wilful defaulters of Public sector banks rose from 5,554 to 7,686 in three years.
iii. They owes amount more than doubled to from last year to Rs 66,190 crore from Rs 27,749 crore.

4. IREDA MAY BE CONVERTED INTO A GREEN BANK
i. The state run Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency can be converted into a Green Bank.
ii. It may br converted to enable its access funding from overseas banks.
iii. IREDA is created to work with the private sector to increase investment in clean energy and bring clean energy financing into the mainstream.
iv. The green bank could offer lower interest charges than traditional banks .
v. It will also tap into international capital to finance solar and wind projects to help India power its cities and rural communities.

5. INDIAN PARASHAR KULKARNI WINS 2016 COMMONWEALTH SHORT STORY PRIZE FOR ASIA REGION
i. Indian Parashar Kulkarni won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize for 2016 for the Asia region.
ii. The is given for his politically grounded unpublished short fiction 'Cow and Company'.
iii. The story 'Cow and Company' narrates the story of four men in search of a cow.

1. VICE ADMIRAL SUNIL LANBA APPOINTED AS CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF
i. Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, presently Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief  Western Naval Command, was appointed as the next Chief of the Naval Staff.
ii. He will succeed present Navy Chief Admiral Robin K. Dhowan, who will superannuate from the post on 31 May 2016.

2. KUMAR RAJESH CHANDRA APPOINTED CHIEF OF BUREAU OF CIVIL AVIATION SECURITY
i. Senior IPS officer Kumar Rajesh Chandra was appointed as the Chief of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
ii. He will replace IPS officer G S Malhi.
iii. G.S Malhi had completed his tenure  in November 2012.
iv. The post was lying vacant since then.
v. The appointment for the post was delayed due to claims from officers of both Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service to the coveted post.
vi. Bureau of Civil Aviation Security is a regulatory authority for civil aviation security.
vii. The main responsibility of BCAS is to lay down standards and measures in respect of security of civil flights at international and domestic airports in India.

3. RADHA BINOD BARMAN TOOK OVER AS CHAIRPERSON OF NATIONAL STATISTICAL COMMISSION
i. Renowned statistician Dr Radha Binod Barman took over as the part-time Chairperson in the National Statistical Commission.
ii. Professor Rahul Mukherjee, Dr Rajiv Mehta ,Professor S. Mahendra Dev and Dr Manoj Panda also took over as other part-time members of the commission.
iii. National Statistical Commission is an advisory body on all statistical matters, set up to enhance public trust in official statistics.

4. AGRICULTURE PROJECT HARITA-PRIYA OF ANDHRA PRADESH WINS WSIS 2016 PRIZE
i. The agriculture project Harita-Priya of Andhra Pradesh won the World Summit on the Information Society  2016 prize in e-Agriculture category.
ii. Harita-Priya stands for Harmonized Information of Agriculture, Revenue and Irrigation for a Transformation Agenda - Precision Technology for Agriculture.
iii. It meant to collect very specific climate data from farms and give farmers personalised information through SMS
iv. The data is used to create advisories and alerts on irrigation schedules and pests and plant diseases.

5. UNION CABINET APPROVES INDIA-UAE CURRENCY SWAP AGREEMENT
i. The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval for the Memorandum of Understanding between Reserve Bank of India  and Central Bank of United Arab Emirates  on co-operation concerning currency swap agreement.
ii. The Agreement was signed in February 2016 during the official state visit of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India.
iii. The MoU will help to further strengthen the close economic cooperation and relationship between India and UAE.
iv. A currency swap involves exchange of principal and interest in one currency for the same in another currency.

1. US NAVY TESTED WORLD'S LARGEST UNMANNED SURFACE VESSEL, SEA HUNTER
i. United States of America tested the world's largest unmanned surface vessel named Sea Hunter.
ii. It is designed to travel thousands of miles out at sea without a single crew member on board.
iii. The ship is powered by two diesel engines and can reach speeds of 27 knots per hour.

2. MARK SELBY WON WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP
i. England's world number one Mark Selby grabbed World Championship title of Snooker.
ii. He defeated China’s Ding Junhui by 18-14.
ii. Now he became the first Asian player to win the world title.

3. BHUPENDRA KAINTHOLA TAKES CHARGE AS FTII DIRECTOR
i. Indian Information Service  officer Bhupendra Kainthola took charge as Director of Film and Television Institute of India .
ii. He has replaced Prashant Pathrabe.
iii. Film and Television Institute of India is first institute in the country that provides training for acting, film making, video editing, direction and production.

4. SC SETS UP RM LODHA PANEL TO OVERSEE FUNCTIONS OF MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA
i. The Supreme Court has formed a committee headed by former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha to oversee the functions of the Medical Council of India .
ii. The main work of the committee is to oversee all statutory functions under the Medical Council of India, Act.
iii. The MCI is the statutory regulator of medical profession and education in India.
iv. SC stated that MCI had repeatedly failed in its duties and the quality of medical education in the country was at its lowest ebb.
v. MCI has been accused of indulging in corrupt practices.

5. INDIA’S GDP TO GROW AT 7.5% FOR 2016-17
i. International Monetary Fund projected India’s growth rate at 7.5 percent for the year 2016.
ii. The IMF stated India’s growth rate in its report titled Regional Economic Outlook: Asia and Pacific, Building on Asia’s Strengths.
iii. It stated that GDP growth rate of India will be 7.5 percent growth in 2016 and 2017.

6. INDIA’S FIRST SCORPENE CLASS SUBMARINE INS KALVARI UNDERGOES FIRST SEA TRIAL
i. INS Kalvari, Indian Navy’s first indigenous Scorpene-class stealth submarine, has been recently launched  in the Mumbai naval dockyard.
ii. It is a diesel-electric attack submarine which is built under the strategic Project collaboration with French naval defence and energy company DCNS.
iii. INS Kalvari is also known as Tiger Shark .

iv. It can undertake various operations including multifarious warfare, Anti-submarine warfare, Intelligence gathering, mine laying, area surveillance etc.
