1. WORLD BANK CUTS GLOBAL GROWTH FORECAST TO 2.4 %
i. The World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim has slashed the global growth forecast of 2016 by 0.5 % to 2.4 %
ii. The world economy will grow at 2.4% in 2016 and at 2.8% in 2017.
iii. The forecasted rate has been declined due to  low commodity prices and weak global trade.
iii. But India will remain one of the fastest growing major economies, ahead of China, for the next three years.

2. INDIA RANKED 141 ON GLOBAL PEACE INDEX
i. India has been ranked 141 on the 2016 Global Peace Index.
ii. The first place is grabbed by iceland and Serbia placed on the 163 rank.
iii. Last year India was ranked at 143 place.

3. INDIA BECOMES THIRD LARGEST OIL CONSUMER
i. According to the reports of World Energy India has surpassed Japan to become the world’s third-largest oil consumer.
ii. The largest consumer of oil in world is the United States, China and India.

4. ADB APPROVES $100 MN LOAN FOR IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN TN
i. Asian Development Bank has approved a USD 100 million loan to strengthen a key irrigation system and improve water management in Tamil Nadu.
ii. The Cauvery delta on the east coast of Tamil Nadu, is known as the ‘rice bowl’ of the state.
iii. 70 % of the delta population engaged in farming and fishing, but access to water is unreliable and flooding common during the monsoon season.

5. PAKISTAN TOPS IN 2016 MALWARE INFECTION INDEX
i. Pakistan has topped the list of 19 countries in the 2016 Malware Infection Index  in the Asia-Pacific region.
ii. Indai was placed in the index at 8th position.
iii. The index highlights the key malware threats in the Asia-Pacific region.

6.  G KALYANAKRISHNAN APPOINTED AS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR NUCLEAR FUEL COMPLEX
i. G Kalyanakrishnan has been appointed as  New Chief Executive of Nuclear Fuel Complex , Hyderabad.
ii. He has replaced N. Saibaba, who retired on completion of two years of the extended period of service.

7. SHARAPOVA BANNED FOR TWO YEARS OVER DOPING
i. Maria Sharapova Russian tennis player was banned for two years by the International Tennis Federation.
ii. The ban is imposed on her after she got tested positive at the Australian Open 2016 in Anti doping test.
iii. She was using a drug banned in sports named meldonium.

1. AXIS BANK LAUNCHES INDIA’S FIRST CERTIFIED GREEN BOND AT LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE
i. Axis Bank has launched India’s first internationally-listed certified green bond to finance climate change solutions around the world at London Stock Exchange.
ii. The fund of the bond will be invested by Axis Bank in green energy, transportation, and infrastructure projects.
iii. Green Bonds   are debt instruments which help issuer to get capital while the investors receive fixed income in the form of interest.

2. MAHARASHTRA TO OBSERVE 21ST OF EVERY MONTH AS YOGA DAY
i. Maharashtra government has decided to celebrate the 21st day of every month as Yoga day in all schools, colleges and universities in the state.
ii. It is also decided that every district will have to set up a Yoga Day committee at their levels to plan 'Yoga Mahotsav' every year in between January 12-21.

3. INTERNET SAATHI, A JOINT INITIATIVE OF GOOGLE AND TATA HAS LAUNCHED IN WEST BENGAL
i. Internet search engine Google and Tata Trusts’ joint initiative Internet Saathi was launched in Kolkata, West Bengal.
ii. The initiative aims at reducing the digital gender gap in rural areas of India
iii. The initiative is already active in villages across five states in India, namely Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

4. MAJOR GENERAL PER LODIN APPOINTED TO HEAD UN MILITARY OBSERVER GROUP IN INDIA AND PAKISTAN
i. Per Lodin, Major General of Sweden has been appointed as the Head of the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan
ii. Lodin's appointment was approved by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

5. AKHIL SHARMA WINS €100,000 DUBLIN INTERNATIONAL LITERARY AWARD
i. Indian American author Mr. Akhil Sharma has won the  2016 International DUBLIN Literary Award for his novel 'family life'.
ii. The Award is the world’s largest prize for a single novel published in English.

6. WORLD'S HIGHEST-PAID ATHLETES CRISTIANO RONALDO TOPS FORBES 2016 LIST
i. Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first athlete to top in Forbes annual list of the World's Highest-Paid Athletes.

1. WORLD OCEANS DAY OBSERVED ON 8TH JUNE
i. The World Oceans Day is being observed globally on 8th June every year.
ii. The day is observed to raise global awareness of the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans..
iii. The theme of the day is “Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet”.

2. PIYUSH GOYAL LAUNCHES ‘SURYA MITRA’ MOBILE APP
i. Piyush Goyal Minister for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy has launched ‘Surya Mitra’ mobile app.
ii. The GPS-based mobile app is developed by National Institute of Solar Energy  which is an autonomous institution of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy
iii. This app is a high-end technology platform which can handle thousands of calls simultaneously and can efficiently monitor all visits of Suryamitra’s.
iv. The App will be very useful in the field of Renewable energy to serve customers at their doorsteps with quality installation, repair, and Observations and Measurements services.

3. AYUSH MINISTER HAS INAUGURATED NATIONAL HEALTH EDITORS’ MEET ON YOGA
i. Shripad Yesso Naik Minister of State for AYUSH, has inaugurated a National Health Editors' Conference in New Delhi.
ii. The theme of the conference is Yoga for Holistic Health - Recent Researches.
iii. The conference aims at ensuring wider dissemination of benefits of Yoga to the public through the media.
iv. The ministry has decided to introduce International Yoga Award Scheme with a view to promote yoga from 2017.

4. US RETURNS 200 ARTIFACTS WORTH USD 100 MN TO INDIA
i. The US has returned over 200 stolen cultural artifacts to India, some dating back 2,000 years.
ii. The estimated cost of these artifacts is around US$ 100 million.
iii. Items returned included religious statues, bronzes, and terra-cotta pieces looted from India's most religious sites. 

5. INDIA AND US TO SET UP 2 CLEAN ENERGY FINANCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMMES FOR $60 MN
i. India and the US have announced the setting up of two financial assistance programmes worth $60 million.
ii. The fund will be used  for supporting India’s much-needed clean energy initiatives including in solar power and other renewables.
iii. India is expected to provide clean and renewable electricity to up to 1 million households by 2020.

6. SBI AND ICICI BANK HEADS AMONG FOUR INDIANS IN FORBES ‘POWERFUL WOMEN’ LIST
i. Four Indian women’s including SBI  chairmanr Arundhati Bhattacharya and ICICI Bank MD Chanda Kochhar are in the new list of Forbes’ world’s 100 most powerful women .
ii. The Forbes ‘100 Most Powerful Women’ list for 2016 is  topped by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
iii. Arundhati Bhattacharya, ranked 25th on the list and chanda Kochhar placed at 40th spot.
iv. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is ranked 77th on the list and Indra Nooyi is ranked 14th on the list.

7. DR. SHAHID RASOOL TAKES CHARGE AT CEMCA
i. Dr. Shahid Rasool has taken charge as the new director of the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia.
ii. He will help to ensure effective utilisation of educational media resources for distance education.

8. EDEN GARDENS TO HOST INDIA'S 1ST PINK BALL MATCH
i. Kolkata's Eden Gardens stadium is going to  host India's first pink ball cricket match in the Bengal Super League.
ii. The three day match, which will be played under lights with pink Kookaburra balls.

9. INDIA TO HOST JUNIOR MEN'S HOCKEY WORLD CUP
i. The city of Nabab's Lucknow is going to host the junior men's hockey World Cup.
ii. The cup will start from 8 of December and will end on 18th of December.
iii. The women's Hockey Junior World Cup will be hosted in Santiago, Chile.
