1. SHALABH SETH APPOINTED CEO OF OLA FLEET TECHNOLOGIES
i. Shalabh Seth has appointed as the CEO of Ola Fleet Technologies by Indian online transportation network company Ola
ii. Seth will drive supply growth through leasing and other driver focused initiatives to consolidate Ola’s position as the market leader in the Indian ride sharing space.
iii. Prior to this, Shalabh was the managing director in SABMiller India and he responsible for business expansion and growth in the country.

2. DANIEL ORTEGA SWORN IN NICARAGUA’S PRESIDENT FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE TERM
i. Daniel Ortega was sworn in as the President of Nicaragua for the third consecutive term his wife, Rosario Murillo was elected as the new vice president.
ii. Ortega, took the oath in Managua in the presence of the presidents of Venezuela, Bolivia and Taiwan.

1. 20TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR E-GOVERNANCE HELD IN ANDHRA PRADESH
i. The 20th National Conference on e-Governance was held from in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
ii. The theme for the conference was Internet of Things and e-Governance.
iii. The basic aim of NCeG was to use digital innovations for transforming India.

2. CHILD SEX RATIO AT BIRTH IN HARYANA TOUCHES 900-MARK IN TWO DECADES
i. The Child Sex ratio at birth in the State of Haryana crossed the 900-mark in the year 2016 for the first time in almost two decades.
ii. The continuous effort of Haryana government led by CM Manohar Lal Khattar has led to such development. PM Narendra Modi also launched the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign against female foeticide in Panipat.
iii. The State government made effective implementation of the law including Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994, and the Medical Terminal of Pregnancy Act against illegal sex determination and female foeticide.

3. DELHI AIRPORT ADOPTS WORLD’S FIRST DIGITAL PLATFORM “ARC”
i. The Delhi Airport informed that has adopted a unique performance and benchmarking digital platform, ARC, and claims that it is first in the world to adopt such platform.
ii .The dynamic platform has been developed by  Delhi Airport Green Business Certification Inc and US Green Building Council. These are the global certifying body for all Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design projects.
iii. The platform would enable the airport operator to manage, measure and improve performance of airport regarding carbon emissions, resource consumption, and quality of passenger space.

4. DEFENCE MINISTER MANOHAR PARRIKAR INAUGURATES INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION ON REINFORCED PLASTICS
i. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurated the 8th edition of the International Conference & Exhibition on Reinforced Plastics at the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India.
ii .This event will provide an ideal opportunity for the Global Composites Industry to focus its attention to India.
iii. The conference will focus on the latest developments on automation, mechanization and innovation to meet growing challenges of end user requirements.
iv. It will also provide update on composites in terms of raw materials, new applications, process developments, machinery, case studies among others.
v. The Defence Minister also informed about the government’s ambitious ‘Design in India’ policy to promote product designing in the country.

1. KUMAR SHARADINDU APPOINTED AS THE NEW MD & CEO OF SBI PENSION FUNDS
i. SBI Pension Funds Pvt Ltd., a subsidiary of State Bank of India has appointed Kumar Sharadindu as its MD and Chief Executive.
ii. SBIPFPL is one of the 3 Pension Fund Managers appointed by Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority in India to manage the pension corpus of employees enrolled under the National Pension System for Government Employees.
iii. SBI Pension Funds had an Asset under Management of Rs 46,019 crore on March 2016, representing a growth of 47 % over the previous fiscal, and is the seventh largest pension fund manager in terms of market share and 35 % its AUM comes from the government sector.

2. GIONEE SIGNS UP VIRAT KOHLI AS BRAND AMBASSADOR
i. Mobile handset brand Gionee has named Virat Kohli as their new brand ambassador.
ii. Earlier Gionee had named in actor Alia Bhatt as its brand ambassador
iii. Kohli will be joining her in helping the brand to amplify its presence in India.

3. PAKISTAN SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRES SUBMARINE-LAUNCHED NUCLEAR-CAPABLE MISSILE’
i. Pakistan successfully test-fired its first Submarine-Launched Cruise Missile, Babur-3 from Indian Ocean.
ii. The missile has a range of 450 km is likely to heighten long-running tension between India and Pakistan.
iii. Babur-3 is a sea-based variant of Ground Launched Cruise Missile Babur-2, which was successfully tested earlier in December 2016.
iv. The missile has advanced guidance and navigation features and is incorporated with Global Navigation, Terrain and Scene Matching Systems.

4. 12TH WORLD HINDI DAY OBSERVED ON 10 JANUARY
i. The 12th World Hindi Day was celebrated on 10 January across the world to honour our Indo-Aryan language.
ii. The number of Hindi literates across the globe is reportedly rising at a high pace. Hindi is the fourth most-spoken first language in the world.

5. PM NARENDRA MODI INAUGURATED THE 8TH VIBRANT GUJARAT GLOBAL INVESTORS SUMMIT AT GANDHINAGAR
i. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the 8th Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2017 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.
ii. PM Modi inaugurated the Nobel Prize exhibition ‘Ideas Changing the World’ at  Nobel Prize exhibition Science City in Ahmedabad, Gujarat as a part of the 8th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit
iii. PM met 9 Nobel laureates from across the globe.
iv. The Nobel laureates will interact with students, industry leaders ,scientists and policy makers through conference and meeting events, such as lectures, roundtables and other activities.
v. Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Gandhinagar railway station and inaugurated the International Stock Exchange at GIFT City.

1. TAMIL NADU BECOMES 21ST STATE TO JOIN UDAY
i. The Tamil Nadu Government signed an MoU with the Ministry of Power to join the Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana scheme which aims at reviving the financial turnaround of debt stressed electricity distribution companies of India. With the agreement Tamil Nadu has become the 21st state to join UDAY scheme.
ii. Tamil Nadu’s discom TANGEDCO, would save around Rs 11,000 crore by 2019 under UDAY by saving interest cost, interventions in energy efficiency,  reduction in AT&C and transmission losses, coal reforms etc. The state will take over 75 per cent of Rs 30,420 crore debt of TANGEDCO.
iii. Under the scheme the balance debt is also issued as state guaranteed discom bonds, at coupon rates around 3-4 per cent less than the average existing interest rate.

2. 9TH JAIPUR INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL BEGINS IN JAIPUR
i. The 9th edition of the world’s fastest growing film festival, Jaipur International Film Festival began on 7 January 2017 and will conclude on January 11, 2017 at the Golcha Cinema in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
ii. The five-day event aims to promote emerging directors, as well as encourage the exchange of knowledge, information, ideas and culture between India and the participating nations.
iii. A Committee headed by noted film director Shaji N Karun has selected internationally acclaimed cine-visionary Ramesh Prasad for the Life Time Achievement award at the JIFF.

3. ANDHRA PRADESH ORGANIZES ITS FIRST DIGI DHAN MELA
i. The first Digi Dhan Mela in the state of Andhra Pradesh was launched by the Urban Development and Information Broadcasting M. Venkaiah Naidu along with Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium.
ii. The two-day event to be concluded on January 10, 2107 emphasized on teaching the people about the digital payment system like Internet, Debit cards, Credit cards, E-Wallet and other modes to encourage the cashless transactions.

4. RAJNATH SINGH LAYS THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR NEW NDRF CAMPUS
i. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new campus of the National Disaster Response Force at Kondapavuluru village of Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.
ii. The campus would consist of world class training centre, dormitories, administrative block, residential area, swimming pool, helipad, play ground, guest house, quarters for officials, vehicle depot, training centre, school and other facilities.
iii. 10th Battalion NDRF is responsible for providing rescue operation during natural calamities, accidents, cyclones and floods in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.

5. ASSAM GOVT COMES UP WITH E-WALLET
i. The Assam government will be shortly launching its indigenously-developed e-Wallet, Tokapoisa.in.
ii. Its main aim is to enable the people of the state for hassle-free online transactions in local language.
iii. The mobile application Tokapoisa.in has been developed by the Assam Electronics Development Corp. Ltd. Besides being an e-Wallet, it will be a virtual payment terminal.

• Aurangzeb died in Feb 1707 in Deccan when the Mughal Empire consisted of 21 provinces Kabul in Afghanistan, 14 in North India and 6 in South India (Aurangabad, Berar, Bidar, Telangana, Bijapur, Hyderabad and Kandesh).
• In the South, the Maratha influence had become so formidable that large area of the South India were obeying two masters, one is the Mughal Authority and other is the Marathas and local rulers.
• On the west coast, the Portuguese held Goa, Chaul, Diu and Daman; The British held Calcutta, the French held Chandranagar, with their headquarters at Pondicherry in the far south.
• The war of succession amongst Aurangzeb’s surviving sons Muazzam, Azam and Kambaksh.
• Muazzam, subahdar of Kabul, was at Jamrud when he heard the news of his father Aurangzeb’s death. He crowned himself as Emperor with a title of Bahadur Shah at Lahore.
• Azam, subhadar of Gujarat, had hastened to Ahmadnagar and proclaimed himself Emperor.
• After securing peaceful possession of Agra and Delhi, Muazzam met Azam, who was advancing towards the North from Ahmadnagar via Gwalior, at Jajau near Agra in June, 1707. Azam was defeated and killed, along with his 2 sons by Muazzam.
• Kambaksh, subhadar of Bijapur assumed Sovereignty and conquered some important places including Gulbarga and Hyderabad.
• Bahadur Shah marched to the Deccan through Rajasthan and crossed the Narmada in May 1708. A battle took place near Hyderabad in 1709 in which Kambaksh and his son were killed.

·         Muazzam emerged victorious in the war of succession and ascended the throne with the name of Bahadur Shah I. He was the first and the last of the Later Mughals to have exercised the real authority. At the time of his succession, his age was 65 years.
·         He pursued a conciliatory policy towards Rajputs and Marathas. He acknowledged the independence of Mewar and Marwar. Sahu, the son of Sambhaji, who had been in Mughal captivity since the fall of Raigarh, was released.
·         Granted Sardeshmukhi (10% tax levied upon the Land revenue) to Marathas but not Chauth (one-fourth in form of tribute).
·         Made peace with Chhatarsal, the Bundela chief and Churaman, the Jat chief.
·         The jeziya imposed by Aurangzeb was withdrawn.
·         Bahadur Shah had to face considerable trouble in the Punjab, where after the death of Guru Govind Singh, Banda Bahadur had emerged very powerful and causing a lot of depredations. Emperor himself led the campaign against Banda Bahadur. The Sikhs were neither crushed nor conciliated. During the course of this campaign, Bahadur Shah died in 1712.
·         Mughal Historian Khafi Khan called him Shah-i-Bekhabar. He was buried at Delhi.

1.  PER CAPITA INCOME OF INDIANS TO CROSS RS 1 LAKH IN FY17
i. India’s per capita income is estimated to cross Rs 1 lakh in 2016-17, up from Rs 93,293 in the previous fiscal.
ii. As per the ‘First Advance Estimates of National Income, 2016-17’ released by CSO, the per capita net national income during 2016-17 is “estimated to be Rs 103,007” at current prices. This is higher by 10.4 per cent compared to Rs 93,293 during 2015-16.
iii. The Central Statistics Office said India’s GDP is expected to slow down to 7.1 per cent during 2016-17 from 7.6 per cent in the previous fiscal.

2. BUDGET SESSION OF PARLIAMENT TO BEGIN FROM JANUARY 31ST
i. The Budget session of Parliament convened to start from January 31, a day before the Union Budget is likely to be presented.
ii.  President Pranab Mukherjee has summoned the Rajya Sabha to meet on January 31, 2017.
iii. The practice of separate railway Budget presentation is being scrapped from this year. The railway estimates will be part of the Union Budget.

3. SANIA WON BRISBANE WOMEN'S DOUBLES TITLE BUT LOSES NO.1 RANK
i. Indian tennis playeer Sania Mirza picked up her first title of the season, combining with American Bethanie Mattek-Sands to lift the Brisbane International women's doubles title.
ii. The trophy ended Sania's 91-week reign as the world No.1 doubles player in the WTA rankings. That position was taken over by her partner Bethanie.

4. NOVAK DJOKOVIC WINS QATAR OPEN TENNIS TITLE
i. Serbian Player Novak Djokovic has won the Qatar Open tennis title held in Doha.
ii. He defeated Andy Murray of UK.

5. 2017 INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL BEGINS AT AHMEDABAD
i. A 7 day International Kite Festival is inaugurated by International Kite festival CM Vijay Rupani and Gujarat Governor OP Kohli at the Sabarmati riverfront, Ahmedabad.
ii. International Kite festival includes a theme pavilion based on ‘Tourist Destinations of Gujarat’, kite workshop, adventure games for kids, craft stalls to display the local art and food stalls with local delicacies for the visitors.
