1. 3-MEMBER PANEL REPORT ON AGRICULTURAL REFORM LAWS

      The 3-member committee appointed by the Supreme Court for Studying 3 Agricultural reform laws passed by Parliament has submitted its report to the Supreme Court.

      Members of the Committee –  P K Joshi, Former Director of South Asia, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI); Anil Ghanwat, President of Shetkari Sanghatana & Ashok Gulati, Agri-Economist and former Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).

2.BLOCKCHAIN-POWERED TRACEABILITY INTERFACE

      Spices Board India under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry & UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) India’s Accelerator Lab signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for developing a blockchain-based traceability interface for Indian Spices to enhance transparency in supply chain and trade.

      UNDP and Spices Board India are working towards integrating the Blockchain Traceability Interface with the e-Spice Bazaar portal developed by Spices Board India for connecting spices farmers with markets.

 

3.MEETING OF EDUCATION MINISTERS OF E9 COUNTRIES

      Minister of State (MoS) for Education, Sanjay Dhotre attended the consulting meeting of Education Ministers of E9 Countries.

      Theme – ‘E9 Initiative: Scaling up digital learning to accelerate progress towards SDG4 (Sustainable Development Goal-4)’.

      E9 Countries: It was launched in 1993 at the EFA Summit in New Delhi, India.  

      It was set up to achieve the goals of UNESCO’s Education for All (EFA) initiative.

      The 9 Countries are – Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria & Pakistan.

 

4.CLIMATE & DEVELOPMENT MINISTERIAL MEET IN RUN UP TO COP26

      Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change(MoEF&CC) participated in the virtual climate and development ministerial meet hosted by the United Kingdom (UK) in a run-up to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties(COP26) 2021.

      The event was hosted by COP26 presidentAlok Sharma and UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab, with a focus on how to set international agenda in the run-up to COP26.

      The COP26 UN climate change conference is set to take place in Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow, the United Kingdom in partnership with Italy.

 

5.BASE RATE OF NBFC-MFIS BORROWINGS

      RBI has informed 7.81% as the applicable average base rate to be charged for the loans that are borrowed from Non-Banking Financial Company – Micro Finance Institutions (NBFC-MFIs) for the first quarter of Financial Year 2022 (Q1FY22).

      The base rate for the Q1FY22 was lower than that of Q4FY21 by 15 basis points (0. 15%).

      In Q1FY21 the base rate was about 8.76%.

 

6.IMF HAS PROJECTED INDIA’S GDP GROWTH

      International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its biannual World Economic Outlook report has hiked its growth projection of India for FY22 by 1% to 12.5% from 11.5% of its January 2021 estimation, due to the normalization of economic activity.

      For FY21, it estimated an 8%(-8%) contraction of the Gross Domestic Product(GDP) and for FY23 the growth forecast was revised to 6.9% from 6.8%.

      The report projected the global economy to grow at 6% in 2021 and 4.4% in 2022 as against a contraction of 3.3% (-3.3%)in 2020.

 

7. FORBES’ 35TH ANNUAL WORLD’S BILLIONAIRES LIST

      Jeff Bezos, Founder of Amazon.com Inc topped the Forbes’ 35th Annual world’s Billionaires list with a net worth of 177 billion USD followed by Elon Musk CEO of SpaceX and Tesla with a net worth of 151 billion USD and French Billionaire Bernard Arnault chairman of LVMH Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton SE with a net worth of 150 Billion USD with 2nd and 3rd rank.

      Ranked 10, MukeshAmbani, chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd became Asia’s richest person, replacing Jack Ma.

      With 140 billionaires, India has the 3rd highest number of billionaires on the list.

 

8.48TH CHIEF JUSTICE OF INDIA APPOINTED BY PRESIDENT

      The President of India Appointed Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, Judge of the Supreme Court, as the 48th Chief Justice of India.

      The notification regarding the appointment was issued by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice.

      He will take over as the Chief Justice of India on 24th April 2021 for a 16-month tenure till 26th August 2022.

      The Chief Justice of India is appointed by the President of India under clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution.

 

9. NEW CMD OF SIDBI

      S Ramann, the Chief Executive officer(CEO) of National e-Governance Services Ltd (NeSL), has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD)of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

      He will hold the post of CMD of SIDBI for a period of 3 years from the date of his assuming charge or until further orders.

 

10. BYJU’S THE EDU-TECH COMPANY ACQUIRED AESL

      Byju’s, India’s biggest online education startup has announced its acquisition of Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL), a provider of test preparation services for $1 billion (about Rs 7,300 crore).

      This deal is the biggest acquisition by Byju’s until now.

      Byju’s aims to increase its presence in the test prep space as its competitors/rival Unacademy made close to six acquisitions in the test prep space and Amazon India made an entry with Amazon Academy in 2020.

 

11. INDIA ADOPTED ADVANCED DISEASE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM

      Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan virtually launched the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP), an integrated Digital Platform for Disease Surveillance in India.

      It is an advanced version of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), which is being used currently.

      With the launch, India became the 1st Country in the World to adopt an Advanced Digital Disease Surveillance System.

      IHIP is capable of tracking 33 diseases (previously it was 18).

 

12. SUPACE – AI DRIVEN RESEARCH PORTAL OF S.C.I.

      CJI SA Bobde launched “Supreme Court Portal for Assistance in Court’s Efficiency (SUPACE)” an Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven tool, which is 1st of its kind in the World that collects relevant facts and laws related to the case, thereby easing the research process for Judges.

      Efficient use of AI for collecting information related to the case, to reduce the workload of Judges.

 

13. ‘SUPER TORPEDO’ THAT CAN CAUSE ‘RADIOACTIVE TSUNAMIS’

      Russia is Testing a new ‘Super Torpedo’ namely Poseidon 2M39 Torpedo in the Arctic region.

      The Super Torpedo is capable of producing Radioactive Tsunamis.

      The Unmanned Stealth Torpedo is powered by a nuclear reactor and has a range of 10, 000 km.

      The Torpedo can reach a speed of 100 Knots (around 115 miles per hour) with a 100 MW Nuclear Reactor.

      Russia is also testing a Hyper-sonic missile called ‘Tsirkon’, which is capable of flying at speeds of up to Mach 6-7.

15. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE 2021

      The United Nations(UN)’s International Day of Sport for Development and Peace(IDSDP) is annually observed across the globe on 6th April to recognise the role of sports in communities and in individuals towards building resilience.

      The theme of 2021 IDSDP is focused on – recovery from the pandemic

 

16. WORLD HEALTH DAY 2021 – APRIL 7

      The day is celebrated under the sponsorship of the WHO and other related organizations.

      The theme of World Health Day 2021 is “Building a Fairer, Healthier World”.

 

17. WORLD BACKUP DAY 2021

      World Backup Day is annually observed on 31st March to remind us to protect our digital documents.

      The Day was originally started as the World Backup Month instituted by Maxtor, a hard drive company which was later acquired by Seagate Technology.

 

18. RBI TWIN THE DEPOSIT LIMIT OF PAYMENTS BANKS

      “With a view to furthering financial inclusion and to expand the ability of payments banks to cater to the growing needs of their customers, the current limit on maximum end of day balance of 1 lakh per individual customer is being increased to Rs.2 lakh,” RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das reported.

      Also RBI has decided to enhance the aggregate limit of ways and means advance (WMA) limitfor all States and Union Territories to Rs.47,010 crore, which is an increase of 46 per cent from the current limit of 32,225 crore.

 

19.  AJAI SETH BECAME NEW ECONOMIC AFFAIRS SECRETARY

      The government appointed Ajai Seth as new Economic Affairs Secretary.

      He will replace Tarun Bajaj who will be new Revenue Secretary.

      Senior bureaucrat Tarun Bajaj was appointed revenue secretary as part of a top-level bureaucratic reshuffle by the Centre.

      Bajaj, a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Haryana cadre, is currently secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).

1.“SANKALP SE SIDDHI” A VILLAGE & DIGITAL CONNECT DRIVE

      Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs(MoTA) has launched “Sankalp se Siddhi” a Village & Digital Connect Drive.

      Sankalp se Siddhi –  It is a 100-day drive which is starting from April 2021, which aims to cover a total of 1500 villages in the country (around 100 villages in each region) in the next 100 days by making 150 teams (10 in each region from TRIFED & State Implementation Agencies/Mentoring Agencies/Partners).

 

2.NATIONAL POLICY FOR RARE DISEASES, 2021

      Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare approved the ‘National Policy for Rare Diseases 2021’.

      The policy aims to address the high cost of treatment for rare diseases with increased focus on indigenous research.

      The policy has categorised rare diseases into three groups.

      Provision of upto INR 20 Lakhs under the Umbrella Scheme of RashtriyaArogyaNidhi (RAN) for rare diseases which require a one-time treatment.

 

3.KOSOVO’S 7TH PRESIDENT

      Kosovo’s Parliament elected VjosaOsmani-Sadriu as its new president for a five-year term.

      She became the nation’s seventh president and its second female leader in the post-war period by succeeding HashimThaci.

      Kosovo became independent from Serbia after North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)’s intervention.

 

4.NEW MISSION DIRECTOR OF ATAL INNOVATION MISSION

      Dr Chintan Vaishnav will replace Ramanathan Ramanan to become the new Mission Director of Niti Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) from mid-April 2021.

      Ramanathan Ramanan is the 1st mission director of AIM since June 2017.

 

5.     WORLD’S FIRST COVID-19 VACCINE FOR ANIMALS

      Russia has registered the world’s first vaccine for animals Carnivac-Cov against COVID-19, by agricultural regulator Rosselkhoznadzor.

      Russia already has three coronavirus vaccines for humans, Sputnik, EpiVacCorona and CoviVac.

      The 2021 Miami Open (also known as Miami Masters, presented by Itau) took place at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, USA.

7.JAPANESE NOBEL LAUREATE ISAMU AKASAKI PASSED AWAY

      Isamu Akasaki, one of the winners of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics passed away at the age of 92 in Nagoya, Japan.

      He won the Nobel prize for the invention of the world’s first efficient blue LED(Light Emitting Diode).

      He was born on 30 January 1929 in Chiran, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.

      The invention of the efficient blue LED’s has contributed to the bright and energy-saving white LED light sources, known as LED Lamps.

 

8.INDIA’S FIRST UNION ENVIRONMENT MINISTER PASSES AWAY

      Digvijaysinh Zala, India’s first Union Minister of Environment and Member of the Legislative Assembly(MLA) from Wankaner, Gujarat passed away at the age of 88 in Morbi, Gujarat.

      He was born on 20th August 1932 in Wankaner, Gujarat.

      Digvijaysinh Zala was the head of the erstwhile princely state of Wankaner, Gujarat.

      He served as the first Environment Minister of India from 1982 to 1984 after the Ministry was established under Prime minister Indira Gandhi in November 1980.

 

9.     NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2021

      The National Maritime Day(NMD) is annually observed across India on 5th April, to create awareness about intercontinental commerce and the economy.

      2021 marks the celebration of the 58th Edition of the National Maritime Day.

      The first edition of the National Maritime Day was observed on 5th April 1964.

1. FARM BASED SOLAR POWER PROJECT UNDER PM-KUSUM SCHEME

      Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd (RRECL) commissioned India’s 1st Farm-based Solar Power Project under the PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri-Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan) Scheme at Bhaloji Village, Rajasthan.

      The power generated by the project will be purchased by Rajasthan VidhyutVitran Nigam Ltd (at the rate of INR 3.14 per unit).

 

2. INDIA CONTRIBUTES USD 300,000 TO UN WOMEN

      T.S. Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Secretary to the United Nations (UN) stated that India has contributed USD 300, 000 (~ INR 2.2 Crores) to the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (also known as UN Women).

      In September 2020, India along with Afghanistan was elected as Members of the UN Commission on Status of Women, a body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

 

3. WTO REVISED ITS GLOBAL TRADE PROJECTION

      World Trade Organisation(WTO), the multilateral trade body in its Trade forecast, revised its global merchandise trade volume growth for 2021 to 8% from the earlier forecast of 7.2% in October 2020.

      WTO reported that a 5.3% decline in global trade in 2020.

 

4. FAO’S REPORT

      Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in association with Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC) has released a report titled “Forest Governance by Indigenous and Tribal Peoples”

 

5. NIIFL MADE ITS 1ST INVESTMENT IN HEALTH SECTOR

      The National Investment & Infrastructure Fund Ltd (NIIFL) made its first investment in the Indian healthcare sector by its investment of 2,100 crores in Manipal Hospitals through its direct private equity fund, Strategic Opportunities Fund(SOF).

      NIIFL wasIndia’s first infrastructure specific investment fund or a sovereign wealth fund that was set up by the Government of India.

 

6. CANAL-BASED DRINKING WATER PROJECTS IN PUNJAB

      The World Bank(WB) and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have approved the loan for the 300 Million USD (around Rs.2190 crore) canal-based drinking water project in Punjab.

      The entire project will be co-financed by International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) of World Bank(USD 105 million), AIIB (USD 105 million) and the Government of Punjab(USD 90 million).

 

7. PAYPAL LAUNCHES CRYPTOCURRENCY CHECKOUT SERVICE IN US

      PayPal Holdings Inc has started allowing United States(U.S.) consumers to use their cryptocurrency holdings to pay its online merchants globally.

      In PayPal digital wallets, Customers who hold bitcoin, ether, bitcoin cash & litecoin will  be able to convert their holdings into fiat currencies at checkouts to make purchases.

 

8. KALINGA RATNA SAMMAN 2021

      M Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India presented the Kalinga Ratna Samman for the year 2021 to Biswabhusan Harichandan, governor of Andhra Pradesh(AP) to recognise his contribution to literature.

      Kalinga Ratna Samman is an annual award instituted by the Sarala Sahitya Sansad in 2007.

      The award recognises the person of Odisha who has contributed to any field at the national or international level.

 

9.YES BANK BOUGHT RINFRA’S RELIANCE CENTRE

      YES Bank bought the Reliance Centre of Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RInfra) at Santacruz, Mumbai, Maharashtra for Rs.1200 crores.

      This sale of the office building of 21432.28 square meter plot in Santacruz is utilised to repay the debt of YES Bank.

      Under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act 2002, The YES bank has issued the demand notice to Reliance Infrastructure Ltd on 6th May 2020, for non-payment of loans amounting to Rs. 2,892 crore.

 

10.DELIVERY OF ‘AKASH MISSILE’ TO INDIAN ARMY

      Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) started the delivery of the ‘Akash Missile’ (surface-to-air Missile System) to the Indian Army.

      BDL manufactures AKASH Missile for both the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.

      The Missile system has been designed and developed by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) with 96% Indigenous content.

 

11.NEW PLANT SPECIES NAMED AFTER SHARADPAWAR

      Researchers discovered a new species of flowering plants belonging to the genus “Argyreia”, in Western Ghats at Kolhapur district, Maharashtra.

      The species is named as “ArgyreiaSharadchandraji” to honour SharadPawar, former Union Agriculture Minister of India.

 

12.2023 MEN’S BOXING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

      International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan as the host city for 2023 Men’s Boxing World Championship.

      The biennial event is the highest event in the sport of Boxing.

      For the 1st time Uzbekistan is going to host the Boxing World Championship in its 22nd Edition in 2023.

 

13.1ST STATE TO PROVIDE HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ALL ITS RESIDENTS

      Health Insurance Scheme (Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana).

      With this launch, Rajasthan became the 1st State in India to provide health insurance of up to INR 5 Lakh to each Family every year.

      The announcement of the Health Insurance Scheme was made during the presentation of the State Budget for the FY 2021-22.

 

14.RBI DEPUTY GOVERNOR BP KANUNGO RETIRES

      Against expectations of getting a second extension, the senior-most deputy governor BP Kanungo retired from the Reserve Bank on completion of his one-year extension.

      Kanungo joined the RBI in 1982 and was in charge of currency management, external investments, operations, payment, and settlement system, among others, during the four-year term as the deputy governor, which began in April 2017.

 

15.2023 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP

      The 2023 Women’s World Cup of football will be spread across nine cities in Australia and New Zealand.

      The opening match will be held at Eden Park in Auckland, with Sydney’s Stadium Australia hosting the final.
