1.      GOVT LAUNCHES 'KRISHI KALYAN ABHIYAAN' TO HELP FARMERS IN ASPIRATIONAL DISTRICTS TO RAISE THEIR INCOME
i. The government has announced the launch of 'Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan' under which farmers in select villages will be given assistance and advice on ways to improve farming techniques and raise their income.
ii. The Agriculture Ministry in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of doubling farmers’ income by 2022 has launched the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan from 1st June to 31st July 2018.

2.      GOVT ANNOUNCES RS. 8,000-CRORE PACKAGE FOR SUGARCANE FARMERS
i. The Union government has announced a package of more than Rs 8,000 crore aimed to provide relief to sugarcane farmers and to clear their dues.
ii. The government has also decided to ensure a minimum sale price of Rs 29/kg for sugar.

3.      MK JAIN APPOINTED RBI DEPUTY GOVERNOR
i. The Centre has appointed MK Jain, Managing Director, and CEO of IDBI Bank, as the RBI’s Deputy Governor
ii. The central bank now has four serving RBI Deputy Governors NS Vishwanathan, Viral V Acharya, BP Kanungo and newly appointed MK Jain  .

1.      INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRES SFDR PROPULSION BASED MISSILE
i. Making a breakthrough in missile technology, India successfully carried out the flight test of Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet propulsion based missile, according to the Defence Ministry.
ii. The technology demonstrator flight test was conducted from the Launch Centre-III of Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha.

2.      INDIA RANKS 113TH ON CHILDHOOD INDEX
i. According to a Save the Children’s "End of Childhood Index 2018”, India ranks 113 among 175 countries with regards to where childhood is threatened as a result of poor health, malnutrition, exclusion from education, child labour, and child marriage.
ii. The child marriages in India have come down to 15.2% from 21.1% in 2017.
ii. India jumped three positions up from 116 last year with improvement in India’s overall score by 14 points from 754 to 768 on a scale of 1000.
iii.Singapore and Slovenia are placed at the top sharing the first place in the index and Niger figures at the end of the list at 175.

3.      INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRES 'AGNI-5' OFF ODISHA COAST
i. India successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Long Range Ballistic Missile, Agni-5 from the Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.
ii. The state-of-the-art surface-to-surface missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation  has a strike range of 5,000 kilometres and can carry a nuclear warhead of more than one tonne.

1.      ORDINANCE TO SET UP COUNTRY’S 1ST NATIONAL SPORTS UNIVERSITY GETS PRESIDENT’S ASSENT
i. President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to an ordinance to set up the country’s first national sports university in Manipur.
ii. The Union Cabinet had approved an ordinance in May 2018 in this regard.

2.      MANEKA GANDHI LAID FOUNDATION OF INDIA'S 1ST ADVANCED DNA FORENSIC LAB
i. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi laid the foundation stone of India's first advanced DNA forensic laboratory in Chandigarh.
ii.It is setup to reduce the backlog of cases needing advanced forensic analysis.
ii. Ity will help Central Forensic Science Laboratory campus to assist in investigation and prosecution of crimes including those committed against women and children.

3.      INCOME TAX DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES NEW BENAMI TRANSACTIONS INFORMANTS REWARD
i. The Income Tax Department has issued a new reward scheme titled “Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme, 2018” to seek people’s participation in the Income Tax Department’s efforts to unearth black money and to reduce tax evasion.
ii. The scheme is aimed at encouraging people to give information about benami transactions and properties as well as income earned on such properties by such hidden investors and beneficial owners.

1.      NIRMALA SITHARAMAN INAUGURATED 1ST IAF COMMANDERS CONFERENCE
i. The First biannual Indian Air Force Commanders’ Conference was inaugurated by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Air Headquarters in New Delhi.
ii.  The Exercise ‘Gagan Shakti’ was mentioned as the landmark exercise for IAF.
iii.The two-day conference discussed operational, maintenance and administrative takeaways identified during the Exercise and the way ahead.

2.      FACEBOOK TIES-UP WITH NATIONAL WOMEN COMMISSION TO LAUNCH DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAMME
i. Social networking giant Facebook partnered with the National Commission for Women  to launch a Digital Literacy Programme .
ii.The DLP will be launched in collaboration with the Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF).
iii. Cyber Peace Foundation is a Ranchi, Jharkhand-based civil society organisation involved in training related to all aspects of cybersecurity.
NCW is a statutory body established under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 to review the constitutional and legal safeguards for women.

3.      ANDHRA PRADESH GETS ITS OWN SYMBOLS
i. Neem and black buck have been declared as the state tree and animal respectively of Andhra Pradesh.
ii. The rose-ringed parakeet will be the state bird while jasmine will be the state flower. The announcement was made by the Principal Secretary of Environment and Forests G Anantha Ramu.

1.      PATANJALI LAUNCHES NEW MESSAGING APP 'KIMBHO'
i. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali launched a new swadeshi messaging application called 'Kimbho' to compete with WhatsApp.  Kimbho caters to private and group chats with free phone and video calling.
ii. The tagline of Kimbho is "Ab Bharat Bolega". Patanjali has recently tied up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to enter the telecom sector by launching Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards.

2.      INDIA AND WORLD BANK SIGNS $500 MILLION ADDITIONAL FINANCING FOR PMGSY
i. The Government of India and the World Bank signed a $500 million loan agreement to provide additional financing for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana .
ii. Govt. of India, which will build 7,000 km of climate resilient roads, out of which 3,500 km will be constructed using green technologies.
ii. The $500 million loan, from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), has a 3-year grace period, and a maturity of 10 years.

3.      WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY: 31 MAY
i. Every year, on 31 May, World Health Organization and partners mark World No Tobacco Day . 
ii.The theme of World No Tobacco Day 2018 is "Tobacco and heart disease."
ii. The day highlights the health and other risks associated with tobacco use, and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

1.      POWER MINISTER LAUNCHES WEB PORTAL AND APP CALLED 'PRAAPTI'
i. RK Singh, Minister of State for Power, launched the web portal and an app namely 'PRAAPTI' that stands for ‘Payment ratification and analysis in power procurement for bringing transparency in invoicing of generators’.
ii. The portal ‘www.praapti.in’ has been developed to bring transparency in power purchase transactions between Generators and DISCOMs.

2.      GUJARAT GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES 'REUSE OF TREATED WASTE WATER POLICY'
i. The Gujarat government unveiled its 'Reuse of Treated Waste Water Policy' which aims to reduce the state's dependence on freshwater sources like the Narmada river.
ii. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel launched the policy at a function held in Gandhinagar. The policy will promote the use of treated wastewater and will see the setting up of sewage treatment plants (STP) in all major towns and cities of Gujarat.

3.      MICROSOFT IS NOW THIRD MOST VALUABLE FIRM GLOBALLY
i. Software giant Microsoft has surpassed Google’s parent company Alphabet in market capitalisation for the first time in three years. Microsoft has now become the third most valuable firm globally after Apple and Amazon.
ii. Microsoft had a market cap of $753 billion at the close of trading, almost $14 billion ahead of Alphabet. While Apple leads with a market cap of nearly $924 billion, Amazon is at a distant second, with nearly $783 billion.

1.      QUEEN MAXIMA OF KINGDOM OF NETHERLANDS ON VISIT TO INDIA
i. Queen Maxima of the Kingdom of the Netherlands who is also the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development has arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit to India.
ii. During the visit, Queen Maxima will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog Rajiv Kumar and CEO Amitabh Kant.

2.      SANGEETA BAHL BECOMES OLDEST INDIAN WOMAN TO SCALE MOUNT EVEREST
i. Sangeeta Bahl, a 53-year-old former model, has become the oldest Indian woman to conquer Mount Everest.
ii. Bahl, who currently resides in Gurugram, scaled the peak with the help of two Sherpas and was felicitated at the Indian embassy in Kathmandu.
iii. She has already conquered six out of the seven highest peaks in the world.

3.      BCCI, UN ENVIRONMENT SIGN AGREEMENT TO PROMOTE ‘GREEN’ CRICKET
i. The BCCI and UN Environment signed an agreement to promote ‘green’ Cricket in India.
ii. BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary and Erik Solheim, Executive Director of UN Environment, signed a letter of intent in Mumbai.
iii. The partnership aims to spread greater awareness about key environmental challenges facing the country, and highlight alternate and more sustainable solutions.

1.      1ST SMART & GREEN HIGHWAY EASTERN PERIPHERAL EXPRESSWAY AT BAGHPAT IN UP
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated to the nation its first smart and green highway, the Eastern Peripheral Expressway at Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.
ii.The 135-kilometer six-lane access-controlled expressway is eco-friendly and has world-class safety features.
iii. It envisages signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Palwal.
iv.It has been built at a cost of 11,000 crore rupees.
v.It is India's first highway to be lit by solar power besides provisions of rainwater harvesting.

2.      15TH FINANCE COMMISSION CONSTITUTES PANEL FOR HEALTH SECTOR
i. The Fifteenth Finance Commission has constituted a High-Level Group consisting of eminent experts from across the country to examine the strengths and weaknesses for enabling balanced expansion of Health Sector.
ii. In the context of ambitious schemes like Ayushman Bharat and also keeping in mind the needs of the huge young population of the country, this is considered as an important step to understand the needs of the health sector in the country.

3.      E-WAY BILL SYSTEM FOR INTRA-STATE GOODS MOVEMENT COMES INTO FORCE IN SEVEN MORE STATES, UTS
i. E-Way Bill system for intra-State movement of goods will be implemented in seven more states and Union Territories from 27th May 2018.
ii.The States are Maharashtra, Manipur, Chandigarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep.
ii.The number of States, where the system is being implemented, will go up to 27.  As per the decision of the GST Council, e-Way Bill system has been rolled out from 1st of April this year.

1.      INDIA TO BE HOST COUNTRY FOR CELEBRATIONS OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2018
i. India will be the host country for celebrations of World Environment Day 2018.
Ii. The theme for this year is 'Beat Plastic Pollution'.
ii. The government has launched green deeds campaign to raise awareness about protection of the environment. The World Environment Day will be celebrated on 5th of June.

2.      PMS OF INDIA AND BANGLADESH INAGURATE BANGLA BHAVAN IN SHANTINIKETAN
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurate Bangladesh Bhawan at Shanti Niketan in West Bengal.
ii. The two leaders then paid floral tributes to Rabindra Nath Tagore. This is the first time in Indian history, that two prime ministers attended a convocation ceremony.

3.      I&B MINISTER LAUNCHES 6-DAY ASEAN INDIA FILM FESTIVAL
i. I&B Minister Col. Rajyavardhana Rathore launches six-day ASEAN India Film Festival in New Delhi.
ii. India and ASEAN share historical and cultural links.
ii. The Union Minister also stated that the Information and Broadcasting ministry is taking measures to create and promote film festivals with ASEAN, BRICS and European nations.

4.      9TH EDITION OF ‘RASHTRIYA SANSKRITI MAHOTSAV’ INAUGURATED IN UTTARAKHAND
i. Ministry of Culture has organised 3-Day long diversified cultural festival ‘Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav’ festival which was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Near Tehri Lake, Uttrakhand.
ii. Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav was conceived by the Ministry of Culture in the year 2015, when the Ministry decided to organize it with an intent to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Country in all its rich and varied dimensions.

5.      INDIAN NAVY COMMISSIONS 4TH SHIP OF LANDING CRAFT UTILITY MK-IV
i. The Indian Navy commissioned the IN LCU L54, the fourth ship of Landing Craft Utility MK-IV, into its fleet at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar.
ii. The ship was commissioned by Vice Admiral GS Pabby, AVSM, VSM and Chief of Materiel. The Commissioning of L-54 is in line with the Union Government’s Make in India initiative.

6.      GOVERNMENT NOTIFIES 8.55% INTEREST ON PF FOR 2017-18
i. Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has asked its field offices to credit 8.55% rate of interest for 2017-18 into the Provident Fund accounts of around 5 crore subscribers.
ii.According to an order issued by the EPFO, the Labour Ministry has conveyed approval to credit 8.55% rate of interest for last fiscal.
ii. The finance ministry had ratified 8.55%rate of interest on EPF for the last fiscal, but it could not be implemented because of model code of conduct for Karnataka elections.

7.      PRESIDENT APPOINTS NEW GOVERNORS IN ODISHA AND MIZORAM
i. BJP leaders Ganeshi Lal and Kummanam Rajasekharan were appointed as Governors of Odisha and Mizoram, respectively.
ii.According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique, Prof. Ganeshi Lal will take over as the new governor of Odisha. He has replaced S C Jamir.
iii. Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik had been given additional charge of  Odisha. The President appointed Kerala BJP chief Kummanam Rajasekharan as the Governor of Mizoram. He will be replacing Lt. General (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma.

8.      ARCHERY WORLD CUP STAGE II 2018 STARTS IN TURKEY
i. The second stage of Archery World Cup 2018 has been started in Antalya, Turkey. India opened its account with a silver and a bronze medal in the compound section.
ii. India’s women compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Divya Dhayal recovered from a poor start to lose to their Chinese Taipei opponents by three points to settle for a silver.
