1.      “HARIT DIWALI-SWASTH DIWALI” CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT
i. Environment Ministry launched the 2nd edition of Harit Diwali, Swasth Diwali campaign.
ii. It was initiated in 2017-18 and is aimed at pledging to minimize bursting of crackers.
iii. This edition has been merged with “Green Good Deed” movement for conservation and protection of environment.
This campaign advise to celebrate Diwali in an environment-friendly manner.

2.      “IRON MAGIC 19”: UAE, US KICK OFF TWO-WEEK JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE
i. United Arab Emirates  and the United States started a two-week military exercise named“Iron Magic 19” in the Arabian Gulf.
ii. This exercise aims to enhance cooperation, joint actions and exchange of expertise in military areas.

3.      VICE PRESIDENT CONFERS LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI AWARD ON FALI NARIMAN
i. Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu presented the 19th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence 2018 in Public Administration to senior advocate Fali S Nariman.
ii. The award was started in 1999 and is provided to a business leader, management practitioner, public administrator, educator or institution builder for his/her sustained individual contributions for achievements of high professional order and excellence

1.      27TH INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY  FUSION ENERGY CONFERENCE HELD IN GANDHINAGAR, GUJARAT
i. 27th International Atomic Energy Agency  Fusion Energy Conference started in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
ii. It aims to provide a platform for discussion of major physics and technology issues and innovative concepts related to the use of nuclear fusion as a source of energy.

1.      ANGRIYA: FIRST CRUISE SERVICE LAUNCHED BETWEEN MUMBAI AND GOA
i. Angriya India’s first ever passenger cruise ship was launched between Mumbai and Goa.
ii. The cruise ship Angriya has been named after first Maratha Navy Admiral Kanhoji Angre and the great Angria bank coral reef near Vijaydurg, Maharashtra.

2.      INDIA’S LONGEST RIVER BRIDGE TO BE BUILT ON BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER IN ASSAM
i. India’s longest river bridge will be built across the Brahmaputra, connecting Dhubri in Assamto Phulbari in Meghalaya, by 2026-27.
ii. It will be a 19.3 km, four-lane bridge that will cut road travel by 203 km .
iii. The new bridge will complete the missing link of NH127B from Assam to Meghalaya.

3.      MAN-ANIMAL CONFLICT A ‘STATE DECLARED DISASTER’: UP GOVERNMENT
i. Uttar Pradesh government made the man-animal conflict a ‘State Declared Disaster’.
ii. The main objective is to help reduce retaliatory killings.
 iii. According to the provisions of the order, a compensatory amount of Rs.5 lakh would be given to family of deceased if the victim of the animal attack dies.

1.      INDIA’S FIRST RAILWAY STATION INSIDE TUNNEL TO COME UP IN HIMACHAL PRADESH
i. India for the first time announced a railway station named, the Keylong station, to be built inside a tunnel at a height of 3,000 metres in Himachal Pradesh.
ii. This will be built along the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line close to the Sino-India border.
iii. The line will halve the duration taken to cover the distance between Delhi and Leh, from 40 hours to 20 hours.

2.      7TH MEETING OF EDUCATION MINISTERS OF SCO MEMBER STATES HELD IN ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN
i. 7th meeting of education ministers of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation was held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
ii. Implementation of the agreement between the governments of SCO member states on establishing and operating USCO was approved.
iii. It was agreed to conduct the 8th meeting of education ministers of SCO member states in the Russian Federation during the Russian Federation’s presidency of SCO.

1.      CANADA BECOMES 2ND COUNTRY TO LEGALIZE RECREATIONAL CANNABIS
i. Canada became the second country after Uruguay to legalise possession and use of recreational cannabis.
ii. Canadians can grow up to 4 plants in their own home and carry up to 30 grams of dried cannabis for personal use.
 iii. Canada has become the second and largest country with a legal national cannabis marketplace.

2.      INDIA IMPOSES ANTI-DUMPING DUTY ON CERTAIN STEEL PRODUCTS FROM CHINA
i. India has imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 185.51 US dollars per tonne for 5 years on some varieties of Chinese steel to protect domestic players from cheap imports from China.
ii. The revenue department has imposed the duty based on the recommendations of the Directorate General of Trade Remedies .
 iii. The goods have been exported to India from China below normal value and the domestic industry has been affected due to this.

3.      KERALA THE FIRST SMOKE-FREE STATE; TO HAVE 100% LPG
i. Kerala became the first state in the country to have 100% penetration of LPG in public sector oil companies.
ii. Its main objective is to make the state smoke-free.
iii. The Indian Oil is also prepared to provide with new generation fuels like CNG and other green fuels.

i. India’s highest tricolour unfurled in Mumbai by Mukhtar Naqvii.
ii. The flag is 20×30 feet in dimensions and stands 350 feet above the ground.

i. The Punjab Cabinet approved extension of the enhanced 50 per cent reservation for women the office of the chairperson of panchayat samitis and zila parishads.
ii. Earlier,the reservation for women in these bodies are 33%.

1.      BHAROSA:  WOMEN’S CENTRE FOR VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE INAUGURATED IN HYDERABAD
i. ‘Bharosa’, a 24 hour state-of-the-art centre to support women and children afflicted by violence was inaugurated by Hyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar.
ii. The centre would help these women along with dealing in POCSO cases.
iii. It would ensure speedy justice to women in distress and has facilities to record statements of children in POCSO cases.

2.      DATA BREACH IN INDIA SECOND HIGHEST AFTER US IN FIRST HALF OF 2018: GEMALTO
i. According to a report called Breach Level Index by digital security firm Gemalto, data breach incidences in India were the second highest globally.
ii. India is second to the US which represents more than 57 per cent of global breaches.
945 data breaches led to 4.5 billion data records being compromised worldwide in the first half of 2018.
iii. Out of this, India accounted for over 1 billion data during the first six months of 2018.
iv. Data breach of over 2 billion users on social media platform Facebook was ranked as top incidence globally.
v. It was followed by Aadhaar record compromise where an anonymous service allowed anyone with Rs 500 to access all 1.2 billion Indian citizens’ personal information.

3.      INDIA IS THE WORLD’S MOST DEPRESSED COUNTRY, CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY CHINA AND THE US: WHO
i. According to a World Health Organization report, India is the world’s most depressed country, closely followed by China and the US.
ii. According to the 2015-16 National Mental Health Survey every sixth person in India needs mental health help.

1.      1ST INDO-US TRI-SERVICES EXERCISE LIKELY TO BE IN INDIA IN 2019
i. 1st Indo-US tri-services exercise likely to be in India in 2019
ii. The first such exercise involving all the 3 forces will be in India, and it will take place in 2019.
iii. It will focus on United Nations-based scenario and the over-arching mission of humanitarian assistance, disaster relief measure.

2.      INDIA ELECTED TO UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL WITH HIGHEST NUMBER OF VOTES
i. India was elected to the United Nations’ top human rights body, UNHRC for a period of three years.
ii. This period would commence from January 1, 2019.
iii. India got 188 votes out of 193, the highest number of votes among all candidates.
It is a part of the 18 new members elected in the UN Human Rights Council.

1.      INDIA AND SRI LANKA SIGN TWO MOU FOR CONSTRUSTION OF 1200 HOUSES
i. On October 13, 2018, India and Sri Lanka signed 2 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) for construction of 1200 houses.
ii. India and Sri Lanka sign two MoU for construstion of 1200 housesi. It will be done through 50 model villages, using Indian grant assistance of 60 crore Srilankan rupees.
iii. As per the new MoUs, 600 houses each will be constructed in the Southern and Northern Provinces.
iv. It will target low income landless and homeless beneficiaries with additional assistance of 5 lakh Sri Lankan rupees to each in installments, linked to the stages of construction of the house.
v. Indian financial commitment, under grant, for housing in Sri Lanka currently stands at around  350 million US dollars.
vi. And with this, India’s collaboration with Srilankan government under Model Villages Housing Program stands at 2400 houses in 100 model villages.

2.      INDIA REMAINS POLIO FREE, ALL VACCINES USED IN GOVERNMENT IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMME SAFE: UNICEF, WHO
i. On October 13, 2018, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) announced India’s status as a polio-free country.
ii. The risk of children getting vaccine derived poliovirus was “minimal” in India which came up in the backdrop of oral polio vaccine vials being found contaminated with the type-2 polio virus.
iii. They also asserted that all vaccines provided under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) are safe.
iv. This was achieved by high routine immunization coverage being achieved in India under Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).
v. The India Expert Advisory Group advises the country to conduct mass vaccination campaigns against polio, using bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV), to maintain high immunity Background:
vi. Certified polio-free in March 2014, India continues to remain vigilant against all three types of polioviruses. The last polio case due to wild poliovirus in the country was detected on 13 January 2011.

i. Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, released an Analytical Report of the National Health Profile-2018.
ii. It covers demographic, socio-economic, health status and health finance indicators, comprehensive information on health infrastructure and human resources in health.
iii. The Analytical Report of National Health Profile – 2018 indicates the progress made in India in various health related sectors.
iv. The significance of National Health Resource Repository , India’s first ever national healthcare facility registry, was also discussed at the event.
