1.       EXERCISE KRIPAN SHAKTI

·         Exercise KRIPAN SHAKTI, an Integrated Fire Power exercise was recently conducted by The Indian Army’s Trishakti Crops at the Teesta Field Firing Ranges (TFFR), near Siliguri, West Bengal.

·         The aim of the exercise is to showcase the jointmanship and synchronisation capabilities of Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to fight in an integrated battle.

 

2.       COVID-19 PLUNGED 77 MILLION INTO POVERTY IN 2021: UN-DESA REPORT

·         In accordance with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) report, the COVID-19 plunged 77 million more people into extreme poverty in 2021

·         The report is on financing to achieve UN development goals for 2030, including ending poverty, ensuring quality education for all young people and achieving gender equality.

·         812 million people lived in extreme poverty i.e. on USD 1.90 a day or less  in 2019, and by 2021 this number had risen to 889 million.

·         GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita in 20% of developing countries will not return to pre-2019 levels by the end of 2023.

 

3.       MALCOLM ADISESHIAH AWARD 2022

·         An Indian Marxist economist and political commentator Dr.Prabhat Patnaik from Odisha has been selected for the 2022 Malcom Adiseshiah Award for his contributions to development studies for an outstanding economist.

·         This is a prestigious award instituted by Malcolm & Elizabeth AdiseshiahTrust.Both awards are open to Indian and foreign scholars ordinarily resident in India.

·         Malcolm Adiseshiah Award is given for Distinguished Contributions to Development Studies for an outstanding economist / social Scientist / historian.

 

4.       INDIGENOUSLY DEVELOPED SPECIALIST VEHICLES INDUCTED INTO ARMY 

·         India’s General MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) inducted the first set of indigenously developed specialist vehicles into the army during the event organised at the Bombay Engineer Group (BEG).

·         Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle Medium (QRFV), Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle (IPMV), Ultra Long Range Observation System developed by Tata Advanced System Limited (TASL).

·         Monocoque Hull Multi Role Mine Protected Armoured Vehicle developed by Bharat Forge.   

·         TASL became the first private sector company in India to produce and deliver wheeled armoured combat-ready vehicles for the Armed Forces.

 

5.       NATIONAL FIRE SERVICE DAY 2022 – APRIL 14 

·         National Fire Service (NFS) Day is annually observed across India on 14th April to highlight the importance of fire service and to pay homage to the firefighters who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. 

·         The theme of National Fire Service Day 2022 is “Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity”.

1.       PM MODI INAUGURATES ‘PRADHANMANTRI SANGRAHALAYA’

     Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated the PradhanmantriSangrahalaya, or Prime Ministers’ Museum, in New Delhi (Delhi), to honour the efforts of all 14 Indian Prime Ministers since independence, regardless of ideology or duration in office.

     It is constructed on the site of Teen Murti Estate, which served as the home of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for 16 years until being converted into the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) following his death.

1.       INDIA’S BULLET TRAIN PROJECT: JAPAN TO SEND MODIFIED TRAINS

     Japan will send its improved high-speed ‘E5 Shinkansen series trains’ from Japan to India based upon the modifications to its conditions like temperature, dust and weight. Japan will initially send six trains according to Indian specifications.

     The E5 series Shinkansen high-speed trains are built by Hitachi and Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

     The high-speed trains are capable of running at a speed of 320 Kilometre per hour (kmph) and are 3.35 metre wide.

 

2.       PNB CELEBRATED 128TH FOUNDATION DAY

     Punjab National Bank (PNB), a public sector bank, has celebrated its 128th Foundation Day on April 12, 2022.

     Atul Kumar Goel, MD & CEO of PNB launched a cardless cash withdrawal service and a virtual debit card for its users.

     PNB was established by the great freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai, proudly known as Sher-e-Punjab (Lion of Punjab) in 1894 as the First Swadeshi Bank after being influenced by the swadeshi movement.

1.       INDIA’S 1ST COMMUNITY MUSEUM INAUGURATED IN GYA-SASOMA VILLAGES, LEH, LADAKH

     This is a first of its kind museum in India.

     The Community Museum is a joint collaboration between National Museum Institute(NMI), New Delhi, Delhi and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council(LAHDC), Leh, Ladakh.

     The Museum aims to preserve and take forward the rich cultural heritage of the region.

     Gya, situated on the Leh-Manali National Highway, is the first village and oldest inhabitation in Upper Ladakh.

1.       NITI AAYOG’S 1ST SECI ROUND -I APRIL 2022

     NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog has launched the 1st State Energy & Climate Index (SECI)-Round I April 2022 at an event chaired by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog. It is based on 2019-20 data.

     SECI is the first index that aims to track the efforts made by States and Union Territories (UTs) in the climate and energy sector.

     The states of Gujarat, Kerala, and Punjab are the top 3 among larger states while Goa, Tripura, and Manipur are top 3 among smaller states.

     Among UTs, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.

1.       ASIA’S LARGEST SEWERAGE TREATMENT PLANT AT OKHLA

     This STP aims to remove contaminants from sewage to produce an effluent that is suitable for discharge to the surrounding environment or an intended reuse application

     According to the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the total sanction cost of the Okhla STP project is Rs 665.78 crore.

 

2.       ECUADOR – FIRST COUNTRY TO GIVE LEGAL RIGHTS TO WILD ANIMALS

     Indian Air Force (IAF) did an excellent job under its humanitarian relief programme ‘Operation Ganga’.It was an evacuation mission to bring back all the Indian nationals who are currently stranded in Ukraine.

     The Defence minister also launched the “MEHAR BABA COMPETITION – II” to provide a boost to the growing indigenous drone industry

·         The Union Environment Minister BhupenderYadav has launched ‘Prakriti’ (literal meaning ‘Nature’) – an Awareness Mascot & Green Initiatives on Plastic.

·         Prakriti Mascot – Aims to spread awareness among masses about small changes that can be sustainably adopted in lifestyle for a better environment.

·         Green Initiatives for Plastic Waste Management That Were Launched: National Dashboard on Elimination of Single Use Plastic and Plastic Waste Management by MoEFCC.

·         Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) by CPCB -A Portal for Plastic Packaging 

·         The Union Environment Minister has also administered the “Swachh Bharat Harit Bharat Green Pledge”.

1.       NEPALESE PM SHER BAHADUR DEUBA VISIT TO INDIA 

·         This was PM Sher Bahadur Deuba’s first visit after becoming PM in July 2021.

·         Both PMs jointly launched and operationalized 34.9 km long (22-mile) cross border rail link from Jaynagar in Bihar to Kurtha in Nepal at the Hyderabad House, New Delhi.

·         They also jointly flagged off the inaugural run of the cross-border passenger train services between Jaynagar and Kurtha.

1.       LEH TO SIGN TRIPARTITE AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP HANLE AS DARK SKY SANCTUARY

·         The Leh administration is set to sign a tripartite agreement to develop Hanle as Dark Sky Sanctuary. The Leh Hill Council, WildLife and Tourism departments will jointly develop the area for Astrotourism.

·         Ladakh’s administration in association with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics aims to promote Astro-tourism in the village of Hanle in the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.

·         The village of Hanle, located in the Hanle river valley, which has been declared as a dark sky sanctuary, will offer an unequivocal dark sky experience to tourists.

1.    UP BECOMES INDIA’S TOP VEGETABLE PRODUCER

·         Uttar Pradesh (UP) has become the top producer of vegetables, getting back its first position by demoting West Bengal to the second position

·         Andhra Pradesh remains the top fruit producer.

·         Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme: It is a centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (MoA&FW) from 2014-15.

 

2.    IONS MARITIME EXERCISE 2022 (IMEX-22) HELD AT GOA

·         The First edition of Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Maritime Exercise 2022 (IMEX-22) was held in the Arabian sea and Goa port

·         IMEX-22 consists of two phases, Harbour Phase and Sea phaseHarbour phase – the harbour Phase was held at Mormugao port in Goa .Sea Phase – the sea phase was held in the Arabian Sea

·         Navies of Bangladesh, France, India and Iran participated in IMEX-22

·         Apart from that, 22 Observers from 15 IONS member navies also participated in the exercise.

 

3.    RBI ESTABLISHED VARNIKA INK MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN MYSURU, KARNATAKA

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has dedicated the Varnika ink manufacturing facility at Mysuru in Karnataka.

·         The facility is a unit of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the RBI.

·         This plant also produces Colour Shift Intaglio Ink (CSII) and meets the whole requirements of bank note printing presses in India, resulting in cost effectiveness and bank note ink self-sufficiency.

 

4.    STOCKHOLM WATER PRIZE 2022

·         On the occasion of World Water Day 2022 (22nd March), Professor Emeritus Wilfried Brutsaert was named Stockholm Water Prize Laureate 2022 for his work to quantify environmental evaporation. 

·         He is a Professor in Engineering Emeritus at Cornell University, United States of America.

·         The Stockholm Water Prize instituted in 1991 is often described as the Nobel Prize, which is awarded to people and organizations for extraordinary water-related achievements.

·         It is the world’s most prestigious water award.

 

5.    PRIME MINISTER OF MALTA ROBERT ABELA SWORN IN

·         Prime Minister of Malta, Robert Abela, the Leader of the Labour Party has won the 2022 General Elections and was sworn in for a 2nd term as the Prime Minister (PM) of Malta. 

·         Robert Abela’s Labour Party won the general election with 55.1% of the vote,

·         Malta(Republic of Malta) President– Dr George Vella,Currency– Euro ,Capital– Valletta   

 

6.    FORMULA 1 : SAUDI ARABIAN GP 2022

·         The 2021 Formula 1 World Championship winner Max Emilian Verstappen wins the first race in the 2022 season of Formula 1 in Saudi Arabian Grand Prix (GP) 2022 which took place in Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Saudi Arabia. 

·         Charles Leclerc represents the Ferrari racing team, finishing second with 15 points.

·         Verstappen is the Netherlands’ first Formula 1 world champion at the age of 24.

 

7.    INDIA - FRANCE NAVAL EXERCISE VARUNA- 2022

·         India and France are conducting the 20th edition of the Bilateral Naval Exercise “VARUNA – 2022” in the Arabian Sea

·         The VARUNA series of exercises provides both the navies’ opportunities to learn from each other’s best practices. to the global maritime commons’ security, safety, and freedom.

8.    5TH BIMSTEC SUMMIT

·         Narendra Modi, Prime Minister(PM) of India participated in and addressed the 5th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit hosted in virtual mode by Sri Lanka, the chair of BIMSTEC

·         The theme of the 5th BIMSTEC Summit was “Towards a Resilient Region, Prosperous Economies, Healthy People”. 

·         BIMSTEC Members –  7 members India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand

 

9.    INDIA - SEYCHELLES JOINT TRAINING EXERCISE LAMITIYE-2022

·         LAMITIYE-2022, India – Seychelles Joint Training 10 day long exercise was conducted between Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) at Seychelles Defense Academy, Seychelles

·         The theme for the Joint Training Exercise were both relevant and contemporary for planning & execution of operations based on scenarios in a Semi-Urban environment.

10.    BOOK “CRUNCH TIME: NARENDRA MODI’S NATIONAL SECURITY CRISES”

·         Social scientists Dr Sreeram Chaulia has authored a new book titled “Crunch Time: Narendra Modi’s National Security Crises”.

·         The book highlights the much needed public faith in the state to protect the country from security threats posed by India’s external adversaries.
