1. MRF APPOINTED AB DE VILLIERS AS BRAND AMBASSADOR
i. MRF Limited  appointed South African batsman AB de Villiers as its brand ambassador.
ii. He is appointed for a period of three years.
iii. AB de Villiers who captains the South African One Day International team is regarded as the current best batsman in the world and one of the greatest of all time.

2. JUSTICE VAIPHEI APPOINTED AS ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE GAUHATI HIGH COURT
i. The President of India Pranab Mukherjee appointed Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei as the acting Chief Justice for the Gauhati High Court.
ii. The President appointed him by exercising the powers given in the constitution by article 223 .

3. WORLD STATISTICS DAY OBSERVED ACROSS THE WORLD
i. The World Statistics Day was observed on 20 October .
ii. The theme of the day was: Better Data, Better Lives.
iii. The theme emphasizes the critical role of high-quality official statistical information in analysis and informed policy decision-making in support of sustainable development.
iv. The UN General Assembly in its resolution decided to celebrate 20 October as the World Statistics Day once in every five years.

4. UNION MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT EXTENDED VALIDITY OF ENVIRONMENT CLEARANCE TO 7 YEARS
i. The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change extended the validity of Environment Clearance from 5 years to 7 years by amending the Environment Impact Assessment Notification 2006.
ii. It will increase in period of validity of Environment clearance for longer time, that would provide more leeway to corporations to manoeuvre and manipulate the actions and activities.

5.  SMITA PATIL: A BRIEF INCANDESCENCE A BOOK WRITTEN BY MAITHILI RAO RELEASED
i. The book titled Smita Patil: A Brief Incandescence authored by Maithili Rao was released.
ii. The book, explains the remarkable journey of the short-lived actress.

6. BRITAIN BEAT INDIA TO WIN SULTAN OF JOHOR CUP HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
i. Britain defeated Indian junior men's hockey team to won Sultan of Johor Cup.
ii Best Player award is won by Harjeet Singh of India
iii. Sultan of Johor Cup is an annual international under-21 field hockey tournament held in Malaysia. It is the only invitational junior hockey competition played at international level. it was started in 2011 and is named after the Sultan of Johor, ceremonial head of the Malaysian state of Johor.
