1. FRENCH SOLDIERS TO MARCH IN RAJPATH ON REPUBLIC DAY 2016
i. The French soldiers will march on Rajpath on the occasion of Republic Day with Indian troops in the presence of President Francois Hollande.
ii. The Pesident of France Francois Hollande is the  honourable Chief Guest for 26 January 2016 celebrations.
iii. It is for the first time that a foreign country army will participate in the 26th January Parade, since 1950.

2. SAILESH APPOINTED AS THE REGISTRAR GENERAL AND CENSUS COMMISSIONER OF INDIA
i. Additional Secretary of Home Affairs Sailesh is appointed as the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India.
ii. He will replace C Chandramauli  who had completed his term on 7th  January 2016.
iii. Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India is responsible for conducting the decennial Census.

3. INDIGENOUSLY BUILT ASW CORVETTE INS KADMATT COMMISSIONED IN VISAKHAPATNAM
i. Anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kadmatt was commissioned in the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam.  
ii. INS Kadmatt is the ship in which  excessive amount of weapons and sensors had been integrated to provide a Common Operational Picture.
iii. INS Kadmatt is named on the largest  island of the Lakshadweep group of Islands

4. RBI GOVERNOR RAGHURAM RAJAN AWARDED 2016 CENTRAL BANKER OF THE YEAR AWARD
i. Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has been honoured with the Central Banker of the Year Award for year 2016.
ii. The award has been given by a monthly publication of Financial Times Group.
iii. The award is given to the officials and bankers who have contributed their best to stimulate growth and stabilise their country’s economy.

5. TATA STEEL HONOURED WITH PM’S TROPHY
i. Tata Steel has been declared as the winner of Prime Minister’s Trophy for being the ‘Best Performing Integrated Steel Plant’ in the country for the performance year 2013 – 2014.
ii. Tata steel has bagged this award for the eighth time.
iii. Tata Steel has been honoured for setting the benchmark of excellence in efficiency, quality and sustainability in its all operations.
iv. The Prime Minister’s trophy has been started in 1992-93 on the suggestion of the former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao for recognising the outstanding performance of the integrated steel plants.

6. PAVAN KAPOOR TO BE INDIA'S AMBASSADOR TO ISRAEL
i. Senior diplomat Pavan Kapoor has been appointed India's ambassador to Israel.
ii. He will replace Jaideep Sarkar.
iii. India is Israel's largest buyer of military hardware such as weapons systems, missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

1. GOVERNMENT DECIDES TO MERGE MINISTRY OF OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS WITH MEA
i. Union Government has decided to merge Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs with the Ministry of External Affairs.
ii. This decision has been taken to avoid duplication of work and to improve efficiency with Union Government’s broad principle of minimum government, maximum governance.
iii. MOIA was established in May 2004 and the primary task of the MOIA was to connect the Indian diaspora with its motherland by initiating various programmes.

2. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES RIVER INFORMATION SYSTEM
i. India’s first River Information System was launched by Union Government to facilitate safe and accurate inland waterway navigation.
ii. River Information Services  are combination of modern tracking equipment comprising of hardware and software designed to optimize transport and traffic processes in inland water navigation.
iii. The main aim of the system is to streamline the exchange of information via Very high frequency wireless communication between waterway operators and users
iv. It was also help in the enhancement of inland navigation safety in ports and rivers. 
v. It will also help in environmental protection.

3. UNION GOVERNMENT APPROVED ATAL MISSION PLANS FOR PUNJAB AND UTTARAKHAND FOR 2015-16
i. The Union Ministry of Urban Development approved the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation for Punjab and Uttarakhand for the year 2015-16.
ii. Punjab Government will invest 720 crore rupees in improving basic urban infrastructure in 16 cities.
iii. Uttarakhand will spend 267 crore rupees in 6 cities under action plan.
iv. AMRUT is the scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the urban renewal projects to establish infrastructure to robust sewerage networks and water supply for urban transformation

4. UNION GOVERNMENT ALLOWED TRADITIONAL BULL-TAMING SPORTS JALLIKATTU IN TAMIL NADU
i. The Union Government has allowed to conduct traditional bull-taming sports, Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu.
ii. Jallikattu is celebrated around pongal in southern state of Tamil Nadu.
iii. Now the bulls can be exhibited and trained as performing animal at different events of different states as per the customs or tradition of any community.

5. INDIA TO GROW AT 7.8% IN YEAR 2016 BY WORLD BANK REPORT
i. The Global Economic Prospect report has been released by the World Bank in which it has projected india will grow at 7.8 per cent growth for the year 2016.
ii. World bank has forecasted India’s growth for 2017 and 2018 at a 7.9 per cent.
iii. It projected China will grow at 6.7 per cent in the year 2016 and 6.5 per cent for the year 2017 and 2018.

6. DEVENDER KUMAR SIKRI APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN OF COMPETITION COMMISSION OF INDIA
i. Devender Kumar Sikri has been appointed as Chairman of fair-trade regulator Competition Commission of India.
ii. He has replaced Ashok Chawla, who has retired on 7 january.
iii. Competition Commission of India is a body of the Government responsible for enforcing The Competition Act, 2002 throughout India.
iv. It also ensures to prevent activities that have an adverse effect on competition in India.

7. INDO FRENCH MILITARY EXERCISE SHAKTI-2016 STARTED
i. India and France started counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency joint exercise Shakti-2016 in Rajasthan.
ii. The exercise will focus on counter terrorism operations in backdrop of semi-urban terrain under United Nations Mandate.

iii. It will also help both country armies to train together and gain from each other's rich operational experience.

1. KATE ATKINSON WINS 2015 COSTA NOVEL AWARD
i. The British writer Kate Atkinson has grabbed the 2015 Costa novel award for her novel “A God in Ruins”.
ii. She became the first British author to receive a Costa prize 3 times.
iii. Earlier she had won this award for Life After Life in 2013 and Behind the Scenes at the Museum in 1995.
iv.The Costa Book Awards are  annual literary awards given to English-language books  writers based in Britain and Ireland.

2. UNION GOVERNMENT DECIDES TO DIRECTLY SHIFT FROM BS-IV TO BS-VI EMISSION NORMS IN 2020
i.Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has decided to implement the emission norms of Bharat Stage  VI from 1st April 2020 to control vehicular pollution.
ii. Government will directly shift to BS-VI emission norms from the present BS-IV emission norms and will skip BS-V emission norms altogether.
iii.Earlier Supreme Court Ordered the Union Government to implement BS-VI emission norms earlier than April 2021 deadline due to rising air pollution in the country.

3. APURVI CHANDELA BROKE WORLD RECORD TO WIN GOLD AT SWEDISH CUP GRAND PRIX
i. Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela broke the world record to grab a gold medal in the women's 10 metre air rifle event at the Swedish Cup Grand Prix.
ii. Apurvi Chandela shot 211.2 in the event and broken record of Chinese Olympic gold medallist Yi Siling, who held the record with 211.
iii. She has also qualified for the Women's 10 m air rifle at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

4. JAMMU AND KASHMIR CHIEF MINISTER MUFTI MOHAMMAD SAYEED DIED
i. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away on 7 January at the AIIMS hospital in New Delhi.
ii. He had founded the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party. 

5. UNION CABINET APPROVES CREATION OF A CREDIT GUARANTEE FUND FOR MUDRA LOANS
i. The Union Cabinet has approved creation of a Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units Development Refinance Agency loans.
ii. Under Credit Guarantee Fund for MUDRA Units will guarantee loans sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana to reduce the credit risk to Banks and other financial intermediaries who are Member Lending Institutions.
iii. Under this scheme the guarantee  would  be  provided  on  portfolio  basis  to  a  maximum  extent of  50 per cent  of  Amount  in  Default  in  the MUDRA  Bank.

6. FILIPPO GRANDI TAKES CHARGE AS UN HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR REFUGEES
i.Senior United Nations official Filippo Grandi  has taken the charge as new UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
ii. He has replaced Antonio Guterres of Portugal.
iii. He has been appointed for a tenure of five years.
iv.United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is a United Nations agency mandated to protect and support refugees.

v.It is established in 1950 and headquarterd at Geneva, Switzerland.

1. ANDHRA BANK LAUNCHED IMMEDIATE PAYMENT SERVICE
i.Andhra Bank has launched Immediate Payment Service the National Payments Corporation of India in its all branches.
ii.It will help in making payments possible within seconds with all the standards and integrity maintained for security.
iii.The IMPS will help in providing inter-bank electronic fund transfer service capable of processing person to account remittances.
iv.The maximum amount of transaction will be 2 lakh rupees and charged at the rate of five rupees per transaction.
V.National Payments Corporation of India is an organization for all retail payments system in India

2. WORLD'S LARGEST BLUE STAR SAPPHIRE DISCOVERED IN SRI LANKA
i. The world's largest blue star sapphire was discovered in Sri Lanka.
ii.The sapphire was found near Ratnapura city in the South of Sri Lanka.
ii.The stone is worth at an estimated cost of 100 million US dollars

3. CCI CLEARED RELIANCE CAPITAL-GOLDMAN SACHS DEAL
i. The Competition Commission of India  gave its approval to Reliance Capital Asset Management for acquiring Goldman Sachs' mutual fund business in India for 243 crore rupees.
ii. In Reliance Capital and Goldman Sachs deal the company will acquire all 12 onshore mutual fund schemes of Goldman Sachs Asset Management India.
iii. The Goldman Sachs Group is an American multinational investment banking firm.
iv.It deals in global investment banking, securities, investment management and other financial services primarily with institutional clients.

4. PRANAV DHANAWADE MAKES WORLD RECORD BY SCORING 1009 RUNS AT SCHOOL LEVEL TOURNAMENT
i. 15-year-old cricketer Pranav Dhanawade created a world record by scoring 1009 runs in HT Bhandari Cup an under-16 inter-school tournament held in Mumbai.
ii. He has broken a century old cricket record by becoming the first batsman to score 1000 plus runs in an innings in any form of cricket
iii.He scored 1009 runs in 323 balls with  129 fours and 59 sixes in the entire match.
iv.He had broken  116 yr Record of runs 628 made by AEJ Collins in 1899.

5. UNION CABINET APPROVED STAND UP INDIA SCHEME
i.The Union Cabinet approved the Stand up India Scheme to promote entrepreneurship among Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Women entrepreneurs.
ii.The Scheme is started to facilitate at least two projects per bank branch, on an average one for each category of entrepreneur. It is expected to benefit at least 2.5 lakh borrowers.
iii.Under the Stand Up India Scheme :
a.    Refinance window through Small Industries Development Bank of India  with an initial amount of 10000 crore rupees is set up.
b.   It will create credit guarantee mechanism through the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company
c.    Support will be provided for borrowers both at the pre loan stage and during operations.
d.   Main focus is on handholding support for both SC/ST and Women borrowers.
e.    The loan under the scheme will be secured and backed by a credit guarantee through a credit guarantee scheme.

6. CRPF TO DEPLOY WOMEN COMMANDOS IN ANTI-NAXAL OPERATIONS
i. Central Reserve Police Force has decided to deploy  300 women commandos for undertaking anti-Naxal operations in  Extreme affected states.
ii. Women in CRPF will help in interacting with the local women which helps in gathering good intelligence and also helps in bringing forces closer to the locals and villagers.

7. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED GANGA GRAM YOJANA IN UTTAR PRADESH
i. The Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma bharti launched Ganga Gram Yojana at Village Puth in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
ii.Under this scheme 1600 villages of UP situated along the banks of river Ganga will be developed.
iii. Under this yojna 200 villages have been selected.
iv.Under this yojna open drains falling into river Ganga will be diverted and alternative arrangements for sewage treatment will be made.

v.Toilets will be developed in every house hold.

1. RECOMMENDATIONS OF JUSTICE LODHA COMMITTEE ON BCCI REFORMS SUBMITTED TO SUPREME COURT
i.Justice RM Lodha Committee has  given its report to the Supreme Court on reforms in the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
ii.The committee was appointed to make recommendations to the BCCI  in 2014 by supreme court in order to prevent frauds and conflict of interest in cricket administration.
iii.The committee recommended no Minister or government servant should become a BCCI office-bearer.
iv.BCCI office-bearer’s tenure should not exceed more than two consecutive terms.

2. RBI IMPOSED RUPEES 1 CRORE RUPEES PENALTY ON STATE BANK OF TRAVANCORE
i. The Reserve Bank of India has imposed monetary penalty of 1 crore rupees on State Bank of Travancore for violation of its instructions.
ii.RBI has imposed the monetary penalty for violation of its instructions including reporting of data to Central Repository of Information on Large Credits .
iv. CRILC was set up by RBI to collect,store and disseminate data on all borrowers' credit exposures.

3. WIPRO APPOINTED ABID ALI NEEMUCHWALA AS CEO
i. IT giant Wipro India’s third largest IT services exporter appointed Chief Operating Officer Abid Ali Neemuchwala as the Chief Executive Officer and member of the board.
ii.It is the first time in Wipro’s history that the CEO has been given the role of vice-chairman.

4. RADHA KRISHNA MATHUR TOOK OATH AS CHIEF INFORMATION COMMISSIONER OF INDIA
i. Former Defence Secretary Radha Krishna Mathur sworn in as the eight Chief Information Commissioner of India by President Pranab Mukherjee.
ii.He will replace  Vijai Sharma, who retired on 1 December 2015.      

5. INDIA AND NEPAL FRIENDSHIP BUS SERVICE RESTARTED AFTER GAP OF 27 YEARS
i.Friendship bus service between India and Nepal was again started from Champawat district in Uttarakhand.
ii. The bus service will run between Kanchanpur in Nepal close to the Banbasa border in Champawat district and Anand Vihar in New Delhi.
iii.Earlier the India and Nepal friendship bus service was suspended  for 27 years back  due to the Indo-Nepal Trade and Transit Treaty.

6. KAMLESH CHANDRA PANEL ON GRAMIN DAK SEVAKS
i.Department of Posts  formed a one man committee to study issues related to Gramin Dak Sevaks including wage structure and service conditions.
ii.It will be headed by Kamlesh Chandra a retired member of the Postal Services Board.
iii. It will examine the system of branch post offices and the existing structure of wage and emoluments paid to gramin sevaks.

7. WORLD BRAILLE DAY OBSERVED ON 4TH JANUARY
i.World Braille Day was observed on 4 January to commemorate the birth anniversary of Louis Braille.
ii.On this occasion NGOs and other organizations raised awareness about the apathy towards visually impaired people and to help them be equal with the rest of the people.

iii.Louis Braille is known for inventing the Braille script. The script helps the visually impaired people to read as well as write.

1. INDIA WON 2015 SAFF FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
i. India has won the 2015 South Asian Football Federation championship for record seventh time.
ii.India defeated  Afghanistan by 2-1 goal score.
iii.Earlier India had won the SAFF Football Championship in year 1993, 1997, 1999, 2005, 2009 and 2011.
iv.SAFF is known as South Asian Football Federation.
v.It was started in 1993 and participated by 8 countries including: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

2. MOUNTAINEER ARUNIMA SINHA SCALES MOUNT ACONCAGUA IN ARGENTINA
i. India’s mountaineer Arunima Sinha has successfully climbed Mount Aconcagua in Argentina as part of her Mission 7 Summits.
ii.she created World record by becoming First Female amputee to climb 5 Mountains of the World.
iii.Mt. Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia and is also known as second Everest.
iv. Earlier she made the world record by becoming first female amputee mountaineer to climb the Mount Everest.
v. Arunima had lost her left leg in a train accident in 2011 after she was pushed out of a running train by robbers

3. UNION GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED SETTING UP OF CCL SPORTS UNIVERSITY IN JHARKHAND
i.Union Minister of State  for Power,Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal announced setting up of CCL Sports University in Jharkhand.
ii.The university will have a capacity of 1400 students and 15 sports academies.
iii.Central Coalfield Limited is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, an undertaking of the Union Ministry of Coal.

4. UNION CABINET GAVE EX-POST FACTO APPROVAL FOR MOU ON BRICS NETWORK UNIVERSITY
i. The Union Cabinet has given ex-post facto approval for signing of Memorandum of Understanding among BRICS countries on BRICS Network University.
ii.It will help countries in developing  cooperation among the BRICS nations for the purpose of increasing scientific research, higher education and information exchange.
iii.In November 2015 the negotiations were held on the MoU during the 3rd BRICS Education Ministers meeting and Senior Officials meeting held in Mosco, Russia.

5. INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRED INDIGENOUSLY DEVELOPED MBRL PINAKA II AT POKHRAN
i. India has successfully test-fired Pinaka II multi barrel rocket launcher System.
ii.The trials were conducted at Pokhran in Rajasthan.
iii.Pinaka is an unguided rocket system and capable of neutralising large areas with rapid salvos.
iv.Range of Pinaka II is 40 km.

6. UNION GOVERNMENT TO START LPG-LIKE DBT SCHEME FOR KEROSENE FROM 1 APRIL 2016
i. The Union Government decided to start a LPG-like direct benefit transfer scheme for kerosene.
ii.The scheme will be started from 1st  April 2016.
iii.The scheme will be implemented in 26 districts of eight states including Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh , Rajasthan,Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab.

iv.Under this scheme, people will buy kerosene at market rate, but will get subsidy directly in their bank accounts.
