1. INDIA AND JAPAN SIGNED PROTOCOL TO AMEND DOUBLE TAXATION AVOIDANCE PACT
i. The Government of India and the Government of Japan inked a protocol for amending the present convention for the avoidance of double taxation.
ii. This pact will help in preventing the fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.
iii. It will also help in sharing the information received from Japan in respect of a resident of India can be shared with other law enforcement agencies.
iv. India and Japan will also provide assistance to each other in the collection of revenue claims.

2. SALMAN RUSHDIE GOT MAILER PRIZE FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT
i. India-born author Salman Rushdie was awarded with the prestigious Mailer Prize for lifetime achievement.
ii. The prestigious Mailer Prize is given to those writers who fully exercise their freedom of creativity and thrive on dialogue and debate.
iii. Rushdie is known for his famous books like, Booker Prize winner Midnight’s Children, and controversial The Satanic Verses.
iv. The Mailer Prize is an American literary award started in 2009 by The Norman Mailer Center.

3. UNION GOVERNMENT SLAPS ANTI-DUMPING DUTY ON STAINLESS STEEL
i. Union Government has imposed anti-dumping duty on import of cold-rolled flat products of stainless steel for 5 years from 7 countries.
ii. The Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties has recommended government  about the rising incidence of dumping.
iii. The exports of steel from other countries is effecting the performance of domestic industry and with steel prices on a decline.
iv. The 7 countries are China, South Korea, United States, South Africa, Thailand and Taiwan and the European Union.
v. Anti-dumping duty is imposed to protect its domestic producers and market from cheap imports.

4. NASEERUDDIN SHAH HONOURED WITH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
i. Indian actor Naseerudin Shah was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th edition of Dubai International Film Festival in Dubai.
ii. The Dubai International Film Festival is started as a not-for-profit cultural event, presented and organised by Dubai Entertainment & Media Organization.

5. UN AGENCIES LAUNCHED $1.98 BILLION SAHEL HUMANITARIAN APPEAL FOR 2016
i. The United Nations agencies and partners launched the Sahel humanitarian appeal for 2016.
ii. The purpose of this appeal is to promote international support to tackle crisis of poverty, insecurity and climate change that plagues the Sahel region in Africa.

iii. The aim is to tackle dire effects of climate change,poverty, fast population growth and a rise in violence and insecurity in Africa’s Sahel region.

1. MAURICIO MACRI BLANCO SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA
i. Mauricio Macri Blanco has sworn in as the President of Argentina.
ii. He has replaced Cristina Elisabet Fernandez de Kirchner who was in the office for two terms between 2007 and 2015.

2. SHARAD PAWAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY ON MY TERMS RELEASED
i. On My Terms: From the Grassroots to the Corridors of Power, an autobiography of Sharad Pawar was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
ii. The book was released on the 75th birthday of Pawar known as the Maratha strongman and the leader of Nationalist Congress Party.
iii. In his autobiography he has detailed his experiences of political and social issues spanning 50 years.

3. WORLD’S FIRST DENGUE VACCINE DENGVAXIA APPROVED FOR USE IN MEXICO
i. The Mexican authorities has approved the use of the first-ever vaccine against dengue fever.
ii. The Dengue vaccine will be publicly available for the first time.
iii. The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks approved Dengvaxia for the prevention of disease caused by all four dengue virus
iv. Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease caused by the dengue virus.
v. The disease is a potential threat to almost half of the world’s population.

4. TUNISIAN NATIONAL DIALOGUE QUARTET AWARDED 2015 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
i. Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet has been awarded prestigious 2015 Nobel Peace Prizein Oslo, Norway.
ii. The award was received by Trade unionist Hassine Abassi, human rights activist Abdessatar Ben Moussa, Mohamed Fadhel Mahfoudh and Ouided Bouchamaoui.
iii. The award is given for his contribution in building pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the 2011 Jasmine Revolution.
iv. National Dialogue Quartet was established in 2013 with an aim of promoting peaceful political process at a time when Tunisia was on the brink of civil war aftermath of revolution.

5. CABINET HAS GIVES ITS NOD FOR BIGGEST FDI IN INDIAN RAILWAYS
i. The Cabinet has given its approval to set up India’s first 500-km-long bullet train project, with the help of Japanese funds and technology.
ii. The train will Connect Mumbai to Ahmedabad and it will cost the project with Rs 98,000 crore
iii. Japan will invest Rs 78, 000 crore.
iv. This is the largest foreign investment in India’s railway sector.

iv. The Japanese Shinkansen system of bullet trains had the best safety record, with no fatalities and delays of less than a minute.

1. COUNTRY’S FIRST ANTI-PIRACY POLICE UNIT
i. Telangana has set up the country’s first anti-piracy unit  the Telangana Intellectual Property Crime Unit.
ii.Its main task is to monitor online piracy and recommend blocking of websites. It will also prosecute the pirates and choke their revenue sources.
iii.In india every year  1,500-2,000 films are produced, losing up to 30% of their business to piracy.

2. HUMAN RIGHTS DAY OBSERVED ACROSS THE WORLD ON 10TH DECEMBER
i. Human Rights Day was observed as on 10 December 2015.
ii.The day is observed to promote and raise awareness about Human rights- International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights  and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
iii. UNGA in December 1993 created the mandate of High Commissioner for the promotion and protection of all human rights.
iv. The first Human Rights Day was celebrated in 1950.

3. INDIAN-AMERICAN ENTREPRENEUR FRANK ISLAM TO BE CONFERRED WITH UTTAR PRADESH RATNA AWARD
i. Frank Islam Indian-American entrepreneur and philanthropist, will be honoured with Uttar Pradesh Ratna Award .
ii. The Uttar Pradesh Government is going to honour frank Islam for his achievements and outstanding contributions in a foreign country.
iii.Frank islam was awarded The Indus Entrepreneurs Legends Award in 2014.
iv. The UP Ratna Award is conferred to the NRIs who belonged to UP and have contributed to the field of science & technology, culture, medicine, education, public service and commerce in foreign countries.

4. 2016 YEAR IS TO BE NAMED AS UK-INDIA YEAR OF EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
i. India and United Kingdom launched a joint initiative 2016: UK-INDIA Year of Education and Research in New Delhi.
ii.It  will allow UK academicians to come to India under Global Initiative of Academic Networks programme in 2016.
iii. It will help the two nations to enhance their bilateral relationship in education, research and innovation.

5. TIME MAGAZINE NAMED GERMAN CHANCELLOR MERKEL AS 2015 ‘PERSON OF THE YEAR’
i. German Chancellor Angela Merkel was named as 2015 Person of the Year by Time Magazine.
ii.The magazine honoured Angela Merkel  for role played by her in Europe’s crisis over migration and Greek debt.
iii. Angela Merkel  is the fourth woman since 1927 to be named winner  in last 29 years.

1. DELHI GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED VEHICLE RATIONING SCHEME TO CURB AIR POLLUTION
i. Delhi Government announced vehicle rationing scheme to curb air pollution in the city.
ii. The main objective of the initiative is to halve the vehicular population in the city to bring pollution levels under control.
iii. In the first phase of the scheme, vehicles with odd and even number plates will be allowed to run on alternate days between 1 January and 15 January 2016 in the capital city.
iv. The odd-numbered vehicles will ply on odd dates and the even-numbered vehicles would ply on even dates.
v. Earlier some countries have already successfully implemented this secheme in cities such as Athens, Santiago, Chile, México City, Metro Manila, Colombia etc.

2. INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY OBSERVED ON 9 DECEMBER
i. International Anti-Corruption Day was observed on 9 December.
ii. The Theme of the day is Break the corruption chain.
iii. The day was observed to raise public awareness about corruption and what people can do to fight it.

3. HETERO BECAME FIRST INDIAN COMPANY TO RECEIVE DGCI’S APPROVAL FOR HEPATITIS C DRUG
i. Hyderabad-based Hetero Drugs got the approval of Drug Controller General of India to launch fixed-dose combination therapy Ledipasvir-Sofosbuvir.
ii. The product will be available under the brand name Ledisof in India.
iii. Now, Hetero became the 1st  company in the country to get approval from Drug Controller General of India  to launch hepatitis C medicines.

4. CHEN LONG AND CAROLINA MARIN BAGGED 2015 BWF PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARDS
i. World number one women shuttler Carolina Marin from Spain has won the 2015 Female Badminton Player of the Year award.
ii. Male Player of the Year award is grabbed by Chen Long of China.
iii. Most Promising Player of the Year is Zheng Si Wei of China.
iv. Male Para-Badminton Player of the Year award is Lee Sam Seop of South Korea.
v. Female Para-Badminton Player of the Year award is Helle Sofie Sagoy of Norway.
vi. Carolina Marín is currently ranked No. 1 in the world by Badminton World Federation Women’s Singles 2015 rankings

5. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF COMMEMORATION AND DIGNITY OF VICTIMS OF CRIME OF GENOCIDE OBSERVED ON 9TH DEC
i. International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide observed on 9 December.
ii. The United Nations General Assembly adopted 9 December as International Day of Commemoration & Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide.
 iii. The day was adopted in response to the atrocities which were committed during the World War II.

iv. Genocide is a crime that is committed against members of a national, ethnic or religious group solely because they are members of that group.

1. ANDHRA PRADESH BECAME FIRST STATE TO JOIN DISCOM REVIVAL SCHEME UDAY
i. Andhra Pradesh has became the first state of India to join the Union Government’s Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana.
ii. The scheme aims at helping debt-stressed power distribution companies.
iii. UDAY scheme envisages reducing the interest burden, cost of power, and aggregate technical and commercial losses.
iv. UDAY scheme will enable distribution companies to become sustainable to supply adequate and reliable power, enabling 24x7 power supplies.

2. ONGC JOINED WORLD BANK’S ZERO ROUTINE FLARING BY 2030 INITIATIVE
i. The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited joined Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 Initiative of the World Bank on the sidelines of Conference of Parties-21 of UNFCCC in Paris, France.
ii. ONGC has now become the first oil company from India to join the global initiative that is aimed at curbing routine gas flaring at oil production sites around the world by 2030.
iii. Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 encourages oil companies to seek economically viable solutions to eliminate ongoing “legacy” flaring as soon as possible and no later than 2030.
iv. It will stop routine gas flaring that stops millions of tons of CO2 going into the atmosphere every year.

3. MAHARASHTRA WON WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
i. Maharashtra defeated Punjab to won the 2015 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship.
ii. The championship was started on the eve of the International Day of People with Disabilities.
iii. The states of Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have participated in the championship.
iv. Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India was founded in 2014, is a registered national body.

4. BEIJING ISSUED FIRST-EVER RED ALERT ON AIR POLLUTION
i. Beijing capital of China issued first-ever red alert on air pollution ordering schools to close due to hazardous air quality.
ii. Red alert is the highest possible state of caution.
iii. The order was issued after acrid smog enveloped the capital for the second time in December 2015.

5. OPPOSITION DEMOCRATIC UNITY ROUNDTABLE WON 2015 VENEZUELAN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION
i. Opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable won majority seats in the Venezuelan parliamentary election.

ii. The Jesus Torrealba-led coalition won 110 seats out of total 167-seat legislature and the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezueala won 55 seats.

1. INDIA-RUSSIA JOINT NAVAL EXERCISE INDRA NAVY-15 STARTED IN VISAKHAPATNAM
i. India-Russia joint naval exercise-INDRA NAVY-15 has started in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
ii.INDRA NAVY-15 is a bilateral maritime joint naval exercise between the Indian and Russian navies.
iii.INDRA NAVY-15  is started for promoting the strategic relationship between the two countries.
iii.The aim of the exercise is to increase relations between the navies of two countries and develop common understanding of procedures for maritime security operations.

2. UNION GOVERNMENT RELEASES COMMEMORATIVE COINS ON DR B R AMBEDKAR
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released  two types of commemorative coins on Dr B R Ambedkar as part of the 125th birth anniversary year celebrations.
ii.He is also known as the architecture of Indian Constitution.
iii. The coins are of 10 rupee and 125 rupee denomination and were issued on the 60th Mahaparinirvan Divas of Babasaheb Ambedkar.

3. AUSTRALIA WON HOCKEY WORLD LEAGUE FINAL BY DEFEATING BELGIUM
i. Australia has won Men’s Hockey World League Final by defeating Belgium in the final match played at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Stadium, Raipur.
ii. Australian team defeated Belgium by 2-1 goals.
iii.India was placed at third place in this league.

4. IMF INCLUDED YUAN IN SPECIAL DRAWING RIGHTS BASKET
i. The International Monetary Fund has taken a long-awaited decision to include the Chinese currency Yuan in the basket of its elite reserve currencies.
ii.It is used to calculate the value of the special drawing rights .
iii. The Yuan is also known as the Renminbi.
iv. SDRs means Special Drawing Rights these are supplementary foreign exchange reserve assets defined and maintained by the International Monetary fund.
5. ARMED FORCES FLAG DAY OBSERVED ACROSS INDIA ON 7TH DECEMBER
i. Armed Forces Flag Day was observed across India on 7 December 2015.
ii. The Day is celebrated all over India in order to collect the funds from people all around the country for the well-being of the staff of the Indian Armed Forces.

1. SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAYS ZONE STARTED BIO DIESEL FOR TRAINS
i. The South Western Railways Zone has introduced biodiesel for trains, operating under its zone.
ii. 1st train Hubballi-Bengaluru Janshatabdi Express powered by five per cent biodiesel was flagged off from Hubli.
iii. The main aim of the initiative is to reduce greenhouse gases emission and also to make fuel consumption more efficient.
iv. Biodiesel is a green fuel that provides quasi-renewable energy for cleaner alternatives as sustainable fuel for diesel locomotives and reduces dependency on fossil fuel especially diesel.
v. It is commonly obtained from crops such as sugarcane, cassava, corn, potato and beetroot.

2. SINGAPORE REPLACES MAURITIUS AS TOP SOURCE OF FDI INTO INDIA
i. Singapore has replaced Mauritius as the top source of foreign direct investment into India for current fiscal year 2015-16.
ii.India has attracted 6.69 billion dollars FDI from Singapore while it received 3.66 billion dollars from Mauritius.
iii.Maximum foreign investment in india was received by  Computer software and hardware sector followed by services and automobile sector.

3. MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS FLAGGED OFF FIRST DOUBLE DECKER GOA-MUMBAI TRAIN
i. Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off the first Goa to Mumbai double-decker Shatabdi train from Panaji, Goa.
ii.The fully air-conditioned double-decker train is the first double decker train inIndia.

4. INDIA RECEIVED FIRST INSTALLEMENT OF URANIUM FROM CANADA
i. India received its first uranium installment of 2730 tonnes from Canada.
ii.The uranium is shipped to India for the country’s nuclear power reactors.
iii.The consignment was shipped under a contract with India’s Department of Atomic Energy during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ottawa in 2015.
iv.Earlier Canada had completely banned exports of uranium and nuclear hardware to India after it protested strongly about India’s first nuclear test in 1974.

5. INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY OBSERVED ON 5TH DECEMBER
i. The International Volunteer Day was on 5 December observed across the world.
ii.The Theme  of the day is ‘The world is changing. Are you? Volunteer’
iii.This year's theme challenges everyone to be a part of implementing the newly launched Global Goals, and Agenda’s for Sustainable Development.

iv.The International Volunteer Day  was established by the United Nations General Assembly .
