1. IAN MURDOCK FOUNDER OF DEBIAN LINUX, PASSED AWAY
i.   Ian Murdock  known for founding one of the world's best known Linux distributions passed away in San Francisco.
ii. Ian Murdock was an software engineer known for founding  the Debian project and Progeny Linux Systems, a commercial Linux company.

2. INDIAN-ORIGIN CANCER RESEARCHER HARPAL SINGH KUMAR KNIGHTED BY QUEEN ELIZABETH II
i.   Indian-origin cancer research expert Harpal Singh Kumar received a Knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for his important work on prevention and treatment of cancer.
ii.  Knighthood award is one of the highest honour for an individual in the United Kingdom.

3. ANDHRA PRADESH GOVERNMENT DECIDED TO HIKE WAGES OF ANGANWADI WORKERS
i.   The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to hike the wages of Anganwadi workers.
ii.  The wages of the Anganwadi workers will be hiked from 4200 rupees to 7000 rupees
iii. Anganwadi means courtyard shelter in Indian languages.
iv. They were started by the Indian government in 1975 for the Integrated Child Development Services program to control child hunger and malnutrition.

4. DRGYANENDRA APPOINTED DG OF NATIONAL CENTRE FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE
i.   The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of DrGyanendra D Bandgaiyan as the Director General of the National Centre for Good Governance.
ii.  He is appointed in the office for a period of three years.
iii. He also remained Chief Economist in United Nations Development Programme.
iv. National Centre for Good Governance is the  think tank in the country that guides and helps implement good governance reforms through research, policy analysis, advocacy and capacity building.

5. BJORN ISBERG NAMED AS TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR OF 2016 HOCKEY INDIA LEAGUE
i.   Sweden's Bjorn Isberg was appointed as the Tournament Director of Coal India Hockey India League the premier league for hockey in India.
ii.  Muthukumar Balakrisnan from Malaysia was given the role of the Assistant Tournament Director in the Coal India Hockey India League.
iii. Andy Mair from Scotland was named as the umpire's manager for the league.

6. PM MODI CONCLUDED HIS THREE-NATION TOUR TO RUSSIA, AFGHANISTAN & PAKISTAN
i.   Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his official visit to Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE VISIT TO RUSSIA
a.      PM Narendra Modi participated in the 16th India-Russia Annual Summit.
b.     Both the countries signed 16 Agreements/MoUs on areas like energy, education, security, research and development.
c.      He addressed CEOs forum and invited investments to leverage the potential of Make In India initiative.
d.     Russian President gifted an 18th century sword from Bengal and page from Gandhiji’s diary containing handwritten notes to Modi.
MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE VISIT TO AFGHANISTAN
• Both countries discussed issues related to security and bilateral cooperation.
• He inaugurated Afghan Parliament House which was completely built by India.
ii. After his visit to Afghanistan he visited Pakistan and met the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He became the fourth Prime Minister to visit Pakistan in the post independence period.

7. RAKHIHALDAR ANDKAVITA DEVI BAGGED GOLD AT NATIONAL WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP
i.   RakhiHaldar and Kavita Devi on bagged gold in the Senior National Weightlifting Championships held in Patiala, Punjab.
ii.  RakhiHaldar grabbed gold in Women's 69 kilograms category.
iii. Lalchhanhimi bagged the silver medal and RajwantKaur finished with a bronze medal.
iv. In Women's 75 kilograms category Kavita Devi grabbed gold medal.
v.  SushilaPanwar and DaljitKaurgrabbed the silver and Bronze medal.

1. LAXMI RATAN SHUKLA ANNOUNCED RETIREMENT FROM ALL FORMS OF CRICKET
i. Laxmi Ratan Shukla former Indian cricketer announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
ii. He had a wonderful domestic career for Bengal which lasted for around 18 years since his first class debut.
iii. He was the brightest performer as Bengal won its first Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2012.
iv. He also played for IPL franchises Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

2. ICONIC MARATHI POET MANGESH KESHAV PADGAONKAR PASSED AWAY
i. Mangesh Keshav Padgaonkar Marathi poet and Padma Bhushan recipient Mangesh Keshav Padgaonkar passed away after a long illness.
ii. He penned University of Pune's theme song Punyamayee De Amha Akshar Vardaan.
iii. Some of his famous Marathi songs are Ya Jaganyawar Shatada Prem Karawe, Bhatukalichya Khelamadhali and Shukratara Mand Wara.

3. RUSSIA TIED UP WITH HAL TO MANUFACTURE KAMOV 226T HELICOPTERS
i. Russia's Rostech State Corporation tied up with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to manufacture at least 200 Kamov 226T light helicopters.
ii. The Kamov will replace the ageing fleet of Cheetah and Chetak.
iii. Kamov Ka-226 is a small, twin-engined Russian utility helicopter.

4. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED NATIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY 2015-2020
i. Union Government has launched National Biotechnology Development Strategy 2015-2020 to establish India as a world-class bio-manufacturing hub.
ii. It was released by the Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi.
iii. NBDS intends to launch a major mission under the Make in India programme backed with significant investments for the creation of new biotech products.
iv. It will also help to create a strong infrastructure for Research & Development, commercialization and also empower India’s human resources scientifically and technologically.

6. CIVIL AVIATION MINISTRY GAVE CLEARANCE FOR FOUR GREENFIELD AIRPORTS
i. The Civil Aviation Ministry gave clearance for four greenfield airports.
ii. The 3 airports will be located in Andhra Pradesh and one international airport in Gujarat.
iii. Greenfield Airport means a to set up a new Airport starting from the scratch in an unused land.

7. RBI RELEASED REPORT OF DEEPAK MOHANTY COMMITTEE ON MEDIUM-TERM PATH ON FINANCIAL INCLUSION
i. The Reserve Bank of India released the Report of the Committee on Medium-term Path on Financial Inclusion.
ii. The committee was formed with the objective of working out a medium-term measurable action plan for financial inclusion.
iii. The committee was headed by RBI Executive Director Deepak Mohanty.
iv. The committee has recommended:
a.       Banks have to make special efforts to step up account opening for females
b.      The Government may consider a deposit scheme for the girl child – Sukanya Shiksha - as a welfare measure.
c.       Encourage multiple guarantee agencies to provide credit guarantees in niche areas for micro and small enterprises.
d.      Corporates should be encouraged to nurture SHGs as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

8. LRSAM BARAK 8 MISSILE SUCCESSFULLY TESTED FROM INS KOLKATA
i. India and Israel jointly developed Long Range Surface to Air Missile Barak 8 was successfully test fired from INS Kolkata.
ii. The trial of the LR SAM has been jointly carried out by the Indian Navy, Defence Research and Development Organisation and Israel Aerospace Industries.
iii. LRSAM Barak 8 missile in Hebrew language means Lightning.
iv. Barak 8 missile is an advanced, long-range missile defence and air defence system.

9. REPORT OF VIJAY KELKAR COMMITTEE ON REVISITING & REVITALIZING PPP MODEL RELEASED
i. The Union Ministry of Finance released the report on Revisiting and Revitalising Public Private Partnership Model.
ii. The committee was headed by former Finance Secretary Vijay.
iii. The committee was formed to review the working of PPP Policy and to suggest measures to improve capacity building in Government for their effective implementation.
iv. The committee has recommended PPP model is required for India to grow rapidly and generate a demographic dividend.
v. The committee advised against adopting PPP structures for very small projects

vi. The Committee recommended the government to issue guidelines on the applicability of RTI act and auditing of financial related matters in order to avoid any delays in public asset provision.

1. BHEL COMMISSIONED PRAYAGRAJ POWER PROJECT UNIT IN UTTAR PRADESH
i.Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd commissioned a 660 MW unit of Prayagraj Super Thermal Power Project at Bara in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
ii.It is the first supercritical thermal unit in the state to achieve capacity addition on attaining full load.
iii.Super-critical units are more efficient and eco-friendly as they consume lesser coal.
iv.Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited  is a power plant equipment manufacturer and owned by the Government of India.
iv. It is India's largest engineering and manufacturing company of its kind
2. GUJARATI WRITER RAGHUVEER CHAUDHARY SELECTED FOR JNANPITH AWARD
i. Gujarati litterateur Raghuveer Chaudhary selected for the  Jnanpith award for his contribution to the Indian literature.
ii. Some famous novels of Raghuveer Chaudhary are Amrita, Venu Vatsala, Purvarang and Laagni Samjyaa Vinaa Chuuta Padvanu.
iii.Jnanpith award is one of the prestigious literary awards in India.
3. WHO DECLARES GUINEA EBOLA FREE
i. World Health Organization has declared Guinea Ebola-free after no new cases  of Ebola were found in Guinea.
ii.Ebola virus had killed more than 2,500 people and had badly effected country’s economy and country’s health and education sectors
iii. Earlier WHO had declared Liberia and Sierra Leone Ebola-free in November 2015.
4. GUJARAT CLINCHED MAIDEN VIJAY HAZARE TROPHY
i. Gujarat grabbed the Vijay Hazare Cricket Trophy by defeating delhi in final at Bengaluru.
ii.It is the first time that Gujarat won the trophy.
iii. The Vijay Hazare Trophy is also known as the Ranji One Day Trophy.
5. 18TH INDIA-IRAN JOINT COMMISSION MEETING HELD IN NEW DELHI
i. The 18th Session of the India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting was held in New Delhi.
ii. The session was chairedby External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj and Ali Tayebnia, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance of Iran.
iii.They have  discussed the progress in trade and economic cooperation  in railways, including by supply of rails, rolling stock and signaling.
6. SAND ARTIST SUDARSAN PATTNAIK'S SANTA CLAUS SCULPTURE FEATURED IN LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS
i.Famous sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik’s Santa Claus sculpture named entered into Limca Book of World Records.
ii. He had created a 45 feet high sand Santa Claus at Puri beach which was recognised as the largest sand Santa Claus by the Limca Book of World Records.
iii. He had already created eight world records registered with the Limca Book of World Records. 
7. GIORGI KVIRIKASHVILI ELECTED AS PRIME MINISTER OF GEORGIA
i. Giorgi Kvirikashvili elected as the Prime Minister of Georgia.
ii.He will replace Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

8. CCEA APPROVED AMENDED TECHNOLOGY UPGRADATION FUND SCHEME FOR TEXTILES INDUSTRY
i. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the introduction of Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme.
ii.This scheme will replace existing Restructured Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme  for technology upgradation of the textiles industry.

iii.The new scheme will  help in boosting Make in India in the textiles sector.
