1. INDIA ASSUMES BRICS CHAIRMANSHIP FROM RUSSIA FOR 2016
i. India has assumed BRICS Chairmanship from the Russian for the year 2016.
ii. BRICS is an association of five countries viz. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
iii. India has assumed BRICS Chairmanship for second time.
IV.Earlier India hosted the BRICS Summit in 2012 for first time in New Dehli.
iv.India will host the 8th  BRICS Summit  15th  to 16th  October 2016 in Goa.

2. MARCH 22 OBSERVED AS WORLD WATER DAY
i. Every year World Water Day is observed globally on 22nd March.
ii.The day is observed to preserve and ration consumption of water.
iii.The theme of the day is “Better Water, Better Jobs”.

3. ASHOK LAHIRI COMMITTEE FORMED TO REVIEW EXCISE DUTY IMPOSED ON DIFFERENT JEWELLERY ARTICLES IN BUDGET 2016-17
i. The Union Ministry of Finance constituted Committee to review issues related to excise duty.
ii.The committee will be headed by former Chief Economic Advisor Dr Ashok Lahiri .
iii.It will review excise duty imposed on different jewellery articles in Budget 2016-17.
iv.In the Union Budget 2016-17, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley proposed the Central Excise duty at the rate of 1 percent  and 12.5 percent  on jewellery items.
v.It has  been strongly opposed by the All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation that it will hurt jewellery sector that employs millions of people.

4. INDIAN COAST GUARD SHIP ARNVESH COMMISSIONED AT VISAKHAPATNAM
i. The fast patrol vessel of the Indian Coast Guard Arnvesh was commissioned at Visakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh.
ii. The ship will undertake coastal patrol, surveillance at sea, anti-piracy operations, anti-smuggling and search and rescue operations.

5. HINDUJA BROTHERS TOPPED BRITAIN’S ASIAN RICH LIST 2016
i. The Hinduja Brothers G P Hinduja and S P Hinduja topped the Asian Rich List 2016.
ii.The Hinduja Brothers topped  in the list for the fourth consecutive year with an estimated  fortune of 16.5 billion pounds.
iii.Steel tycoon Lakshmi Niwas Mittal was ranked second in the list.

6. AKHILESH RANJAN COMMITTEE ON TAXATION OF E-COMMERCE SUBMITTED ITS REPORT TO UNION GOVERNMENT
i. A Committee on Taxation of e-commerce constituted by the Central Board of Direct Taxes to examine the business models for e-commerce submitted its report to the central government.
ii.The Report provides the views about the issues related to taxation of e-commerce.

7. WRESTLER HARDEEP SINGH WON SILVER MEDAL IN ASIAN OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT
i. Indian wrestler Hardeep Singh won silver medal in the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
ii.Now he qualified for participation in the Rio Olympics 2016 .
iii.Earlier Yogeshwra Dutt and Narsingh Yadav qualified for the Olympics in men's freestyle category.

8. GOVT ALLOWS 49% FDI IN INSURANCE UNDER AUTOMATIC ROUTE
i. The government of India has relaxed FDI norms for the insurance sector by permitting overseas companies to buy 49 percent stake in domestic insurers under automatic rule.
ii.It is an  effort to bring more foreign companies into India’s  insurance market.
iii. Earlier foreign companies are allowed to buy up to 26% stake in an India and above 26% the investor had to take approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board.

i. 21st March is  observed as International Day of Forests in all over the  world.

2. HS PRANNOY WINS 2016 SWISS OPEN GRAND PRIX GOLD BADMINTON TITLE
i. Ace Indian shuttler HS Prannoy has grabbed 2016 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament in the men’s single category.
ii.He defeated Marc Zwiebler of Germany  to won the title Basel, Switzerland
iii.In Women’s Single it was won by He Bingjiao from China after defeating Wang Yihan
iv.Men’s Doubles is won by Denmark pair of Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen after defeating Chinese Taipei pair of Lee Sheng-mu and Tsai Chia-hsin.
v. Women’s Doubles is won by Japanese pair of Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito after defeating Japanese pair of Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Yonao .

 3. YOGESHWAR DUTT GRABBED THE GOLD MEDAL IN ASIAN OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT
i.Indian grappler Yogeshwar Dutt has grabbed a Gold medal in the Asian Olympic Qualification tournament in the 65 kg freestyle category.
ii.In the final match he defeated Katai Yeerlanbieke from China in the 65 kg freestyle category held at Astana in Kazakhstan.
iii.After this victory he secured an Olympic quota place for India in 2016 Rio Olympic games.

4. EARTH HOUR 2016 OBSERVED ACROSS THE WORLD ON 19 MARCH 2016
i. The tenth edition of World Wide Fund for Nature’s   Earth Hour was observed across the World on 19 March 2016 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time.
ii.Earth Hour 2016 encouraged people to explore and adopt a cleaner and more sustainable lifestyle by embracing renewable energy solutions.
iii. In the 2016  Earth Hour millions of people around the world took part in the event for the global climate change awareness campaign.
iv.More than 178 countries and territories participated in the event .

5. INDIAN AIR FORCE SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED EXERCISE IRON FIST IN POKHRAN
i. The Indian Air Force successfully conducted Exercise Iron Fist in Pokhran, Rajasthan.
ii.The day and night exercise was aimed at demonstrating IAF’s combat and fire power about its commitment and capabilities in safeguarding the national interests.

6. PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI LAUNCHED KISAN SUVIDHA MOBILE APP
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Kisan Suvidha mobile application for farmers.
ii.It will provide information on subjects such as weather, seeds,market prices, pesticides, fertilizers, and agriculture machinery.
iii.Kisaan Suvidha is mobile app developed to help farmers by providing relevant information to them quickly.

 1. INTEREST RATES ON PROVIDENT FUND, KISAN VIKAS PATRA AND ON SMALL SAVING SCHEMES SLASHED
 i. The government slashed interest rates on small-savings schemes, Public Provident Fund and Kisan Vikas Patra.
 ii. The decision is taken to administer interest rates closer to the market rates.
 iii. The new rates will come into effect on 1st April and will be valid till June 30.
 iii. The interest rate on Public Provident Fund scheme will be cut to 8.1 per cent for the period from April 1 to June 30 from 8.7 per cent.
 iv.The interest rate on the KVP will be cut to 7.8 per cent from 8.7 per cent
 v. Interest rate on National Savings Certificates will earn interest at the rate of 8.1 per cent as against 8.5 per cent now.

2.PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI TO INAUGURATED KRISHI UNNATI MELA IN NEW DELHI
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three-day 'Krishi Unnati Mela'.
ii.The mela is organized to provide information on new farm schemes and technologies that will help farmers double their incomes within the next few years.
ii. The National fair is organized from March 19 to 21march.
iii.It will put emphasis  on key schemes started by central government  like Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojana, e-agriculture marketing, integrated farming system and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojan.

3. INDIAN OVERSEAS BANK 1ST BANK TO SELL INDIAN GOLD COINS
i.Indian Overseas Bank has become the first bank to start the sale of Indian Gold Coin  in the domestic market.
ii. It has tied up with Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India for the sale of 24 carat purity gold.
iii. The Gold Coin has the national emblem "the Ashok Chakra" engraved on one side and the face of Mahatma Gandhi on the other side.
iv. The Indian Gold Coin is the first ever national gold offering by the Center government launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 5, 2015.

4. TIKKA SHATRUJIT SINGH HONOURED WITH TOP FRENCH AWARD
i. Tikka Shatrujit Singh the royal scion of Kapurthala’s Ahluwalia dynasty has been honoured with the prestigious Knight of the Legion of Honour.
ii.He was honoured with this award   for his “extraordinary work in the exchanging the French lifestyle and Indian culture with each other.”
iii. He is known for his endeavours to preserve the tangible and intangible heritage of Kapurthala in Indo-French architectural styles.

5. MARCH 20   CELEBRATED AS WORLD SPARROW DAY
i. The world sparrow day is observed every year on March 20.
ii.The day is observed to raise awareness of the house sparrow and other common birds to urban environments and threats to their populations.

6. ICC SUSPENDS BANGLADESH BOWLERS TASKIN AHMED AND ARAFAT SUNNY FOR ILLEGAL BOWLING ACTIO
i. The International Cricket Council has suspended Bangladesh bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny for bowling with an illegal action.
ii. They were suspended after their bowling actions founded as illegal.
iii.Earlier some other Bangladeshi bowlers were also suspended such as Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, Spinner Sohag Gazi .

7. PM NARENDRA MODI PRESENTS 2014-15 KRISHI KARMAN AWARDS
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had conferred 2014-15 Krishi Karman Awards to various states in a ceremony held at New Delhi.
ii. The awards were presented in two different categories one is Total foodgrain production and 2nd is Individual Crops.
iii.List of Winner of Krishi Karman Awards 2014-
a.          Madhya Pradesh For production greater than 10 million tonnes in Category I States.
b.         Himachal Pradesh and Odisha For production between 1 and 10 million tonnes in Category II States.
c.          In Individual Crops states are Haryana, Assam for Rice.
d.         Rajasthan for Wheat.
e.          Chhattisgarh for Pulses.
f.           West Bengal for Oil Seeds.

g.     Krishi Karman awards are given to Best performer States for raising country’s food grain production.
