1. WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY 2016 OBSERVED ON 26 APRIL
i. The World Intellectual Property Day 2016 was observed on 26 April across the world.
ii. The theme of the day is Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined.
iii. The day is celebrated to spread awareness about the role that intellectual property rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

2. INDIA BANNED MILK AND MOBILE PHONES IMPORT FROM CHINA
i. India has banned import of milk and milk products and certain mobile phones from China after finding them sub-standard or not following security codes.
ii. Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that India banned import of milk and milk products from China as their quality was unacceptable.
iii. Complete ban of import from any country is not possible now due to WTO rules even if we have problems diplomatically, territorially or militarily.

3. MANOJ BAJPAYEE TO RECEIVE DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD FOR 'ALIGARH'
i. Renowned actor Manoj Bajpayee will be going to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the movie Aligarh.
ii. The actor will receive the award in the best actor category of Critics Choice.
iii. The award will be presented on 1st of May, 2016.
iv. The movie 'Aligarh' is a biographical drama directed by Hansal Mehta and the actor Manoj Bajpayee has played a role of Professor 'Ramchandra Siras' in it.

4. INDIA TO HOST 2018 COMMONWEALTH JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS
i. India will host the 2018 Commonwealth Judo Championships in Jaipur.
ii. This was announced by the Judo Federation of India in a press release in New Delhi today.
iii. The Commonwealth Judo Congress had allotted the Championships to India at its meeting held at Port Elizabeth in South Africa on Saturday.

5. OPERATION SULAIMANI TO ERADICATE POVERTY IN KOZHIKODE DISTRICT
i. The Operation Sulaimani was started in Kozhikode district to set implement this project to ensure food for the needy in its jurisdiction.
ii. The main objective is to avoid food wastage in the district.
iii. The project is named after Sulaimani as the Kozhikode is famous for food and ‘Sulaimani’ is one of such iconic items of the district.

6. INDIAN ROWER DATTU BHOKANAL QUALIFIES FOR RIO OLYMPICS
i. Indian rower Dattu Baban Bhokanal qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
ii. He qualified Rio Olympics after winning a silver medal in the FISA Asian and Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta held at Chung-ju in South Korea.

iii. South Korea’s Dongyong Kim won the gold medal in the event.

1. 25 APRIL IS OBSERVED AS WORLD MALARIA DAY
i. World Malaria Day is observed annually on 25th April.
ii. The day is observed to recognise the global efforts to control preventable vector borne disease malaria.
iii. The Theme of the day is “End Malaria For Good”.
iv. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease most commonly transmitted by an infected female Anopheles mosquito.

2. WORLD IMMUNIZATION WEEK 2016 ORGANISED WITH CAMPAIGN CLOSE THE IMMUNIZATION GAP
i. World Immunization Week 2016 is being organised in allover the world from 24 April and 30 April 2016.
ii. The week’s campaign is ‘Close the Immunization Gap’ and it seeks to achieve global vaccination targets by 2020.
iii. The 2016 campaign focuses on the need for immunization among adolescents and adults - throughout life.
iv. The week is organised by the WHO with an aim to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.

3. WRESTLER SANDEEP TOMAR QUALIFIED FOR RIO OLYMPICS IN 57-KG FREESTYLE CATEGORY
i. Wrestler Sandeep Tomar won a bronze medal finish on the final day of the 1st World Olympic qualifying tournament at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
ii. He secured his Olympic quota place for India in the men's 57kg freestyle category
iii. Now Sandeep became the fourth Indian wrestler after Yogeshwar Dutt , Narsingh Yadav , and Hardeep Singh to book a berth for the Rio Games.

4. UNION GOVERNMENT CONSTITUTED PANEL TO DOUBLE FARMERS’ INCOME BY 2022
i. Union government constituted the inter-ministerial panel to prepare a blueprint for doubling farmers' income by 2022.
ii. The panel will be headed by Ashok Dalwai, Additional Secretary at the Union Agriculture Ministry.
iii. The panel will prepare a plan to shift farm policies from being production-oriented to income based ones.

5. SALMAN KHAN NAMED AS INDIAN CONTINGENT’S GOODWILL AMBASSADOR FOR 2016 RIO OLYMPICS
i. Bollywood actor Salman Khan was named as the goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ii. It is the first time when a Bollywood superstar has been chosen as a goodwill ambassador for the Indian contingent at the Olympics.
iii. He was chosen by the Indian Olympic Association from a list of two to three candidates including Shah Rukh Khan and  Amitabh Bachchan.

6. PRIME MINISTER CONFERS AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN IMPLEMENTATION OF PRIORITY PROGRAMMES
i. The PM Narendra Modi conferred awards for excellence in implementation of priority programmes on the occasion of 10th Civil Services Day today.
ii. For the priority programme Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana  Nagaon, Assam was awarded in North East and Hill States category and Chandigarh in UTs.
iii. Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), West Sikkim and Bikaner, Rajasthan were awarded in North East & Hill states and Other States category respectively.
v. The Prime Minister also released two books named The Change Makers and Transforming India.

7. 24 APRIL OBSERVED AS NATIONAL PANCHAYATI RAJ DIWAS
i. Every year April 24 is observed as National Panchayati Raj  Diwas across India.
ii. The day marks the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 that came into force with effect from 24 April 1993.
iii. It had led a defining moment in the history of India which helped in decentralization of political power to the grassroots level.

1. GOA TO HOST INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON WHEAT PRODUCTS
i. The International Seminar on Wheat and Wheat Products is scheduled to be held in Panaji, Goa, from 17 to 18 july 2016.
ii. The theme for the seminar is ‘New Ideas and Innovation for Growth’.

2. MAHATMA GANDHI’S GRANDDAUGHTER TARA GANDHI GETS TOP FRENCH HONOUR
i. Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee was conferred with the Order of Arts and Letters, one of France’s top honours.
ii. She is awarded for remarkable work for promoting peace, education, solidarity, culture and development.
iii. She was conferred with the Officier de lOrdre des Arts et Lettres honour
iv. Earlier  Bharti Kher, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Aishwarya Rai ,Shahrukh Khan, and Upamanyu Chatterjee was honoured with this award.

3. PM WILL APPROVE RS. 8,000 CRORE SCHEME FOR FREE LPG CONNECTIONS TO POOR
i. PM Narendra Modi on May 1 will launch Rs. 8,000 crore scheme to provide 5 crore free LPG connections to Below Poverty Line  families .
ii. The amount is saved from 1.13 crore cooking gas users who gave up their subsidies voluntarily
iii. The scheme is known as Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and he will launch it on May 1 in Uttar Pradesh.
iv. Maharashtra tops the list with 16.44 lakh consumers giving up subsidies followed up by Uttar Pradesh.

4. WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY OBSERVED ON 23RD APRIL
i. World Book Day is observed every year by the people all over the world on 23rd of April.
ii. It is organized annually by the UNESCO in order to promote the reading, publishing and copyright among the public worldwide.
iii. It is observed in the rememberance of William Shakespeare.

5. BCCI TO HOST FIRST DAY-NIGHT TEST AGAINST NEW ZEALAND IN 2016
i. BCCI is going to host its first ever day and night cricket Test with the pink ball during New Zealand tour to India.
ii. India will host New Zealand in a day-night Test match to be played with a pink ball.
iii. Duleep Trophy will act as a dress rehearsal for the day-night Test match
iv. The main objective of the Duleep Trophy will be to check how the pink kookaburra behaves under the light in sub-continental conditions.

6. INDIA’S FIRST ONLINE INTERACTIVE HERITAGE PORTAL SAHAPEDIA LAUNCHED
i. The Union Government has launched India’s first online interactive heritage portal named Sahapedia  in New Delhi.
ii. The web portal is a collaborative knowledge resource on the arts, culture and heritage of India.
iii. Sahapedia is a not-for-profit society headed by former TCS chairman S. Ramadorai, who also chairs the National Skill Development Agency.
iv. The purpose of this portal is to inform, educate and act on subjects such as knowledge traditions, visual and material arts, performing arts, literature and languages.

7. INDIA RATIFIES TRADE FACILITATION AGREEMENT OF WTO
i. India has formally ratified the WTO’s Trade Facilitation Agreement, which aims at easing customs procedures to boost commerce.
ii. India became the 76th WTO member to ratify the TFA.
iii. The TFA aims to simplify customs regulations for the cross-border movement of goods.
iv. It will make it easier for developing countries to trade with the developed world in global markets.

1. PRESIDENT NOMINATES 6 EMINENT MEMBERS TO RAJYA SABHA
i. President Pranab Mukherjee has nominated of six eminent members to Rajya Sabha .
ii. The members are nominated as per the provisions of Article 80 of the Constitution.
iii. The nominated members are
a.       Mary Kom: Legendary boxer and Olympic bronze medallist.
b.      Narendra Jadhav: He is renowned economist.
c.       Suresh Gopi: He is Malayalam actor and had acted in over 200 films.
d.      Swapan Dasgupta: He is journalist by profession.
e.       Subramanian Swamy: He is BJP leader and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1977, 1980 and 1988, and to the Rajya Sabha in 1974 and 1998.

2. 175 NATIONS INKED HISTORIC PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT ON EARTH DAY
i. 175 nations including India have inked the Paris Climate Agreement at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
ii. It is signed to curb global warming.
iii. The ceremony was hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the occasion of Earth Day on 22 April.

i. Time Magazine released a list of 100 Most Influential People in the World.
ii. RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, tennis player Sania Mirza, actress Priyanka Chopra, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and founders of Flipkart, Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal have been named by Time magazine in its list.

b.      Caitlyn Jenner: Caitlyn is an American television personality
c.       Sunita Narain: She is an Indian environmentalist and political activist

i. The U.S. Treasury Department announced that the image of an American abolitionist and anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman will appear on a new series of US $20 bills.
ii. Harriet Tubman will become the first African-American and the first woman in more than a century to appear on U.S. paper currency.
iii. Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist, humanitarian, and an armed scout and spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War.

5. UNION MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY LAUNCHED TWITTER SEVA
i. The Commerce and Industry Ministry launched a service named Twitter Seva.
ii. The service is launched to address issues and grievances of startups, exporters and importers, and other stakeholders.

iii. Queries on matters relating to Department of Commerce and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion will be answered through this service.
