1. PM MODI FLAGS OFF 'RUN FOR RIO'
 i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off the Run for Rio event in New Delhi today to celebrate the Olympic mood in the country.
ii. The mass run was announced by the Sports Minister Vijay Goel at a press conference.
iii. India is going to participate in rio Olympics this month.

2. PM MODI WISHES RIO-BOUND ATHLETES IN 'MANN KI BAAT'
 i. PM Modi in his famous Mann ki Baat programe  talked about various subjects such as health, environment, technology, Olympics games  .
ii. He also appealed the country to encourage the Indian contingent for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
iii. He also announced Government hospitals and other facilities will provide free medical care to needy pregnant women in the country.

3. GOLD BOND SCHEME SEES RECORD RS. 919CR IN 4TH TRANCHE
 i. The government's collections under the Sovereign Gold Bond scheme realised through the fourth tranche reached around Rs. 919 crore, the highest achieved yet.
ii. The bonds were issued at price fixed at Rs. 3,119 per gram, the amount was mobilised through over 1.95 lakh applications representing around 2.95 tonnes of gold.
iii. The SGB scheme was launched as an alternative to keeping physical gold.

4. CENTRE GOVERNMENT TO ORGANISE ‘MAKE IN INDIA’ CONFERENCE IN BHUBANESWAR
 i. Centre government has decided to organise a Make in India conference in Bhubaneswar in December this year.
ii. The conference would be organised by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to attract investment in the state as well as the country.

5. BIHAR LIFTS BAN ON TODDY SALE, CONSUMPTION
 i. Bihar government has lifted the ban on the sale and consumption of toddy (palm wine) in the state.
ii. In April after Bihar imposed a total liquor ban in the state  it also banned the sale of ‘toddy’.

6. KERALA TOURISM BAGS SIX NATIONAL TOURISM AWARDS
i. Kerala Tourism has bagged six National Tourism awards for 2014-15 in the marketing category for states.
ii. Kerala Tourism received three out of the six awards for states in the Tourism Promotion and Publishing category.
iii. Last wek it also won Pata award for promoting tourism.

7. AAAI CONFERS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD ON ADMAN SRINIVASAN SWAMY
 i. The Advertising Agencies Association of India announced the recipient of this year’s AAAI Lifetime Achievement Award as Srinivasan K Swamy popularly known as Sundar Swamy.
ii. This Award is the highest honour to be given to an individual in India for his/her outstanding contribution to the Advertising Industry.
iii. This award was started in 1988 by AAAI and so far 23 persons have been bestowed with it earlier.

8. SKYDIVER LUKE AIKINS SETS RECORD FOR HIGHEST JUMP WITHOUT PARACHUTE
 i. Skydiver Luke Aikins, became the first person  to jump from a height of 25,000 feet without a parachute, landing in a net in southern California.
ii. He has completed the jump in Simi Valley of Los Angeles.

 i. The current Chairman of the Railway Board AK Mital has  been given an extension to continue for  2 more years.

3. CM CHANDRABABU NAIDU LAUNCHES 'MISSION HARITA ANDHRA PRADESH'
 i. CM Chandrababu Naidu has launched 'Mission Harita Andhra Pradesh'.
ii. The aim of  the theme  is 'green cover for a happy living', by planting saplings at Sunkollu village under Nuzividu mandal in Krishna district.
iii. The objective of the mission is to increase the green cover in the state to 50 % by the year 2029.

4. CENTRE GOVERNMENT SANCTIONS FUND OF   RS. 620 CRORE TO UP AS DROUGHT ASSISTANCE
 i. Centre has sanctioned Rs. 620 crore to Uttar Pradesh as assistance for the recent drought situation in the state.

5. JOINT INDO-THAILAND MILITARY EXERCISE ‘MAITREE’ CULMINATES
 i. The Indo-Thailand Military Exercise "Maitree" has been concluded at Krabi, Thailand.
ii. The aim of the joint exercise was to train contingents of both the armies on conduct of counter-terrorist operations in an urban environment.
iii. The exercise included combined training, familiarization with weapons & equipment used by both the countries.

6. IWF BANS RUSSIAN TEAM FROM RIO OLYMPICS
 i. International Weightlifting Federation  has formally suspended an 8-member Russian team from next month's Rio Olympics due to doping offences.
ii. IWF Executive Board had decided to suspend for a year national federations that produced three or more doping violations from the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games .

1. UNITED NATIONS WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS 2016 OBSERVED ON 30TH JULY
i. The United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2016 was observed across the world on 30 July .
ii. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime launched the campaign ‘igivehope to show victims of human trafficking’
iii. The day aims at raising awareness of the plight of human trafficking victims, and promoting and protecting their rights.

2. FIRST BRICS EMPLOYMENT WORKING GROUP MEETING HELD IN HYDERABAD
i. The first-ever meeting of BRICS Employment Working Group was held in Hyderabad, Telangana from July 27 to 28, 2016.
ii. The main of the meeting was to shape the agenda for labour and employment track in BRICS countries.
iii. The meeting set the agenda to promote decent work and promote job creation between BRICS countries.

3. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRIENDSHIP 2016 OBSERVED ON 30TH  GLOBALLY
i. The International Day of Friendship was on 30 July 2016 observed across the world.
ii. The main aim of the day  is to encourages governments, international organizations and civil society groups  to promote the efforts of the international community towards promoting a dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.

iii. It will monitor the implementation of 28 schemes and programmes of Ministry of Rural Development and other Ministries to promote synergy and convergence for greater impact.

5. JAMES ALAN MCPHERSON, FIRST BLACK WRITER TO WIN PULITZER PRIZE IN FICTION, DIES
i. American author James Alan McPherson passed away in Iowa City, U.S.
ii. McPherson was the first black author to receive the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1978.
iii. He won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for his short story collection Elbow Room, becoming the first African-American to win the Pulitzer for fiction.

6. HARYANA GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PASHUDHAN BIMA YOJANA
i. Haryana Government has launched Pashudhan Bima Yojana, an insurance cover scheme for cattle breeders in the state.
ii. It was launched by Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister, O. P. Dhankar in Jhajjar.
iii. Pashudhan Bima Yojana will provide insurance cover to cattle breeders in the state at different premium rates for different animals.
iv. Insurance cover will be provided at a premium of Rs 100 for cows, buffaloes, bulls, camels and at Rs 25 for sheep, goat and pig for a period of three years

7. INDIA'S FIRST GREEN RAIL CORRIDOR LAUNCHED BETWEEN RAMESWARAM AND MANAMADURAI STRETCH
i. The 114-km long Rameswaram-Manamadurai stretch of Southern Railway in Tamil Nadu became India’s first Green Rail Corridor.
ii. This green corridor has following Features of Green Rail Corridor:
a.       This corridor ensure zero toilet discharge on rail tracks.
b.      Trains in the section are equipped with bio-toilets to ensure zero discharge of human waste on the rail tracks.
