1. CABINET APPROVES ESTABLISHMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION FINANCING AGENCY
i. The Cabinet has approved the creation of the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA), taking a step closer to developing high quality infrastructure in premier educational institutions.
ii. The HEFA would be formed as a SPV within a PSU Bank or Government-owned-NBFC (Promoter).

2. DEEPA MALIK BECOMES FIRST INDIAN WOMAN TO WIN MEDAL AT PARALYMPICS
i. India’s Deepa Malik created history by becoming the first ever woman from the country to win a medal at the Paralympics.
ii. With the win, she confirmed India’s third medal from the Rio Paralympics. She will receive a cash award of Rs 4 crore under Haryana Sports Scheme for winning the silver medal.

3. WORLD’S LONGEST BULLET TRAIN NETWORK ESTABLISHED IN CHINA

ii. Under the new norms, flexi-funds in each CSS has been increased from the current 10% to 25% for states and 30% for Union Territories.

5. UNION GOVERNMENT ISSUES MODEL GUIDELINES FOR STATES TO CURB PONZI SCHEMES
i. The Union Government has issued model guidelines for states to regulate direct selling and multi-level marketing businesses to protect consumers from Ponzi frauds.
ii. These entities will have to enter into an agreement with direct sellers or agents, and give full refund or buy-back guarantee for goods and services sold to them.
iii. It also mandates direct sellers to constitute a grievance redressal committee to protect consumers’ right.

i. Under the Indo-US defence cooperation a joint military training exercise, ‘Yudh Abhyas 2016’ is started in Uttarakhand.
