1. WORLD TOURISM DAY OBSERVED ON 27 SEPTEMBER
i. The World Tourism Day is being observed annually on 27th September  across the world.
ii.The day is observed to raise awareness about the importance of tourism.
iii.The Theme for the World Tourism Day is  "Tourism for all promoting universal accessibility’.

2. VIJAY KELKAR ELECTED PRESIDENT OF INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE
i. Former petroleum secretary Vijay Kelkar has been elected as a president of the prestigious Indian Statistical Institute.
ii. Vijay Kelkar has replaced former RBI governor C Rangarajan.
iii.It is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions focused on statistics.

3. VEERAPPA MOILY-LED PARLIAMENTARY PANEL TO EXAMINE MERGER OF BUDGETS
i. The parliamentary committee headed by the Congress MP M Veerappa Moily, has been constituted to review the all budgetary reforms.
ii.The committee will also review the disinvestment policy, the banking sector in India, RBI’s emerging role and its framework.

4. AGRICULTURE MINISTER INAUGURATES KRISHI UNNATI MELA IN MATHURA
i. The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh has inaugurated the 4 days Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Unnati Mela – in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
ii.The fest is orgainised to promote new technology advancement in agriculture.

1. INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE TOTAL ELIMINATION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS OBSERVED ON 26 SEP
I. International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons was observed on 26 September.
ii. The Day provides an occasion for the world community to reaffirm its commitment to global nuclear disarmament as a high priority.
iii.It also provides an opportunity to educate the public and their leaders about the real benefits of eliminating such weapons, and the social and economic costs of perpetuating them.

2. AJAY SINGH ELECTED BFI PRESIDENT
i. Uttarakhand’s Ajay Singh has been elected president of the Boxing Federation of India.
ii. The Mumbai-based Jay Kowli won the post of secretary-general as the election process for the office-bearers of the new National federation was completed.

3. JAPAN TO HOST 2026 ASIAN GAMES
i. Japan’s Aichi prefecture and its capital city Nagoya were confirmed as co-hosts of the 2026 Asian Games.
ii. South Korea is already hosting the Winter Olympics at Pyeonchang in 2018 and Tokyo will hosts the 2020 Summer Olympics before the winter games go to Beijing in 2022.

4. R ASHWIN BECOMES FASTEST INDIAN & SECOND OVERALL TO TAKE 200 TEST WICKETS
I. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the fastest Indian and second overall to take 200 wickets, reaching the milestone in his 37th Test.
ii Ashwin left behind the likes of Dennis Lillee and Waqar Younis, who took 38 Tests to get to 200 wickets.

5. SANIA MIRZA AND BARBORA STRYCOVA LIFT TORAY PAN PACIFIC OPEN TROPHY IN TOKYO
i. India's Sania Mirza and her Czech partner Barbora Strycova lifted the women’s doubles title in the Toray Pan Pacific Open trophy in Tokyo.
ii.The Indo-Czech pair defeated the unseeded Chinese pair of Chen Liang and Zhaoxuan Yang .
iii.This is Sania and Strycova's second title in three tournaments since they have paired together.

Features of Indus Valley Civilization:
·         Cities were divided into two parts i.e. Upper town(west), also known as Citadel (i.e. fortified) and Lower Town(east).
·         Red pottery painted with designs in black.
·         Copper, bronze, silver, gold present.
·       Bodies were buried in wooden coffins, but during the later stages ‘H symmetry culture’ evolved where bodies were buried in painted burial urns.
·    Efficient town planning with streets running from North-South and East-West directions, cutting each other at right angle.
·         Northern-most site- Manda (J&K).
·         Southern-most site- Daimabad (Maharashtra).
·         Eastern-most site- Alamgirpur (UP).
·         Western-most site- Sutkagendor (Pakistan).
·         Important Ports towns: Lothal , Surkotada , Dholavira
·         Mature Harappan phase: c. 2600 – 1900 BCE.
·         Largest Harappan site in India is Rakhigarhi in Haryana.

1. INDIA AND RUSSIA STARTED  JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE IN VLADIVOSTOK
i. The 8th edition of the Indo-Russia joint military exercise ‘Indra 2016’ was started  in Vladivostok in Russia.
ii. Indra  is a biannual exercise which has been carried out between the two allies since 2003.

2.COMMITTEES FOR THE BIRTH CENTENARY OF PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAY
i. The PM, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the formation of two committees for the commemoration of the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
ii. The Prime Minister will chair a 149 member National Committee, and the Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, will chair a 23 member Executive Committee.

3. ARUN GOYAL APPOINTED ADDITIONAL SECRETARY IN GST COUNCIL
i. Senior IAS officer Arun Goyal has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Goods and Services Tax  Council.
ii. The Council, headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, is formed to decide on tax rate, exempted goods and the threshold limit.

4. WORLD’S LARGEST RADIO TELESCOPE BUILT IN CHINA
i. China has built world’s largest radio telescope nicknamed Tianyan known as Heavenly Eye” or “The Eye of Heaven.
ii. It has started its operation and is part of China’s drive to become a science powerhouse.
iii. It is located in the Dawodang depression a natural basin in Pingtang County in the Guizhou Province, Southwest China.
iv. It is the world’s largest single dish radio telescope and the second largest radio telescope after the Russian RATAN-600, which has a sparsely filled aperture.

5. MISSION PARIVAR VIKAS TO BE LAUNCHED IN SEVEN STATES FOR IMPROVED FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES
i.The Union Health Ministry has decided to launch Mission Parivar Vikas in seven states for improved family planning services.
ii. Its main objective is to accelerate access to high quality family planning choices based on information, reliable services and supplies within a rights-based framework.
iii. The key strategic focus area of this initiative will be on improving access to contraceptives through delivering assured services, dovetailing with new promotional schemes and  ensuring commodity .
