1. 13 OCTOBER OBSERVED AS INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER REDUCTION
i. The International Day for Disaster Reduction is observed annually on 13 October across the world.
ii. The day is observed to encourage citizens and governments to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations.
iii. The Theme of the day is “Live to Tell: Raising Awareness, Reducing Mortality”.

2. BOB DYLAN WINS 2016 NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE
i. Bob Dylan won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature.
ii. He was given award for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.

3. UNION CABINET APPROVES MOU BETWEEN INDIA AND HUNGARY ON COOPERATION IN FIELD OF WATER MANAGEMENT
i. The Union Cabinet has given its approval for signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Hungary on cooperation in the field of water management.
ii. The MoU will be signed between Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and the Ministry of Interior, Government of Hungary.
iii. They will also exchange of scientific delegations and experts in the field of water resources development and management for joint activities.

4. INDIA-INDONESIA BILATERAL MARITIME EXERCISE COMMENCES AT BELAWAN IN INDONESIA
i. The 28th India and Indonesia Coordinated Patrol  and Second Bilateral Maritime Exercise have commenced at Belawan, Indonesia in the Andaman Sea.
ii. The bilateral naval exercise also seeks to strengthen existing bonds of friendship between both countries.

5. HIMANSH, INDIA’S REMOTE AND HIGH-ALTITUDE STATION OPENED IN SPITI, HIMACHAL PRADESH
i. The National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research established a high altitude research station in Himalaya called HIMANSH.
ii. The station is situated above 13500 feet at a remote region in Spiti, Himachal Pradesh.

6. US LIFTS ECONOMIC SANCTIONS ON MYANMAR
i. The U.S. lifted sanctions against Myanmar that have been in place for nearly two decades.
ii. They are lifted during Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi’s visit to Washington in September 2016.
iii. Lifting economic and financial sanctions will support trade and economic growth in Myanmar.

7. WHO WILL REGULATE PENSION PRODUCTS?
i. The Finance Ministry has set up a high-level committee to consolidate the regulation of pension products.
ii. Presently these are done by three different watchdogs including the insurance and stock market regulators.
iii. The committee will be formed by the Department of Financial Services, would have representatives from all financial sector regulators — SEBI, IRDA, RBI and PFRDA.

POST GUPTA PERIOD
·         According to Harsha-Charita, a royal line was founded by Pushyabhuti, a devout Saivite, somewhere near Thaneswar in the Karnal district of Haraya.
·         The important ruler of this dynasty was Prabhakaravardhana (580 – 605 AD) who assumed the title Maharajadhiraj.
·         A few details of Prabhkarvardhana are to be found in Harshacharita. He was the great General, who possibly defeated the Hunas also. Bana also mentions that he was the devotee of the sun.
·         Prabhakaravardhana had two sons, Rajhavardhan and Harshavardhana and one daughter, Rajyasri. Grahavarman of the Maukhari dynasty was married to Rajyasri.
·         After the death of Prabhakaravardhan, Rajyavardhan ascended the throne in 605 AD. When Grahavarman was killed by the Malwa ruler Deva Gupta, Rajyavardhan went after the Malwa army. The Malwa king was defeated and possibly killed.
·         On his return Rajyavardhana was confronted by Sasanka (ruler of Gaud). Rajyavardhana was killed by Sasanka.
·         After his death, Harshavardhana succeeded to the throne of Kanauj. He was also known as Siladitya.

1. VIRAT KOHLI PRESENTED WITH ICC TEST CHAMPIONSHIP MACE
i.Indian captain Virat Kohli was presented with the ICC Test Championship mace for leading his team to the top of the Test Team Rankings.
ii.The mace was presented by former India captain and ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Sunil Gavaskar after the home team completed a 3-0 whitewash against New zealand.

2. GST LENDS MORE WEIGHT TO INDIA’S 8% GROWTH PROJECTION BY S&P
i.According to S&P Global Ratings the passage of the indirect tax law  will boost  India,s  growth  at 8 per cent growth in the next few years.

i.International Day of the Girl is observed annually on 11 October.
ii The theme of the day is  "Girls' Progress = Goals' Progress: What Counts for Girls".

1. WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY OBSERVED ON 10TH OCTOBER
i. World Mental Health Day is observed annually on 10 October.
ii. The theme of the day is ‘Psychological First Aid’.
iii. The aim of the day is to raise awareness about mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health.

2. NOBEL PRIZE IN ECONOMICS 2016 AWARDED TO OLIVER HART AND BENGT HOLMSTROM
i. Two U.S-based economists Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmstrom have been awarded the 'Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences.
ii.The award is given for their contributions to contract theory.
ii. Last year the Nobel prize in Economics was awarded to Angus Deaton "for his analysis of consumption, poverty, and welfare".

3. MP TO LAUNCH 'LALIMA ABHIYAN' TO MAKE STATE FREE FROM ANAEMIA
i. Madhya Pradesh  launched a campaign to make the state anaemia-free scheme named 'Lalima Abhiyan'.
ii. Under the campaign, free iron folic acid tablets will be provided in aagan wadis', academic institutions and hospitals.

4. INDIAN SHOOTER JITU RAI NAMED 'CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS' BY ISSF
i. The International Shooting Sports Federation has awarded ace shooter, Jitu Rai, the 'Champion of Champions' title for pistol shooting in 2016.
ii. Jitu rai beated Serbia’s Damir Mikec in the Champions Trophy 10m Air Pistol final.

5.'AIYOH' NOW IN THE OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY
i. The Oxford English Dictionary has included "Aiyoh" and "Aiyah" in its latest edition.
ii. The word has defined as, "In southern India and Sri Lanka, expressing distress, regret, or grief; 'Oh no!', 'Oh dear!'".

1. UNION POWER MINISTER ASSURES ELECTRICITY FOR ALL BY MAY 2017
i.Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal assured that India would have 100 per cent electrification for all by May 1, 2017.
ii. He also launched the Urban Jyoti Abhiyaan Mobile app, developed by the state-run Power Finance Corporation, to enhance consumer connect with the urban power distribution sector.

2. WORLD POST DAY OBSERVED ON 9TH OCTOBER
i. World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October all over the world.
ii.The theme for this year 2016 is Innovation, Integration and Inclusion.

3. SPRINTER SRABANI NANDA WINS EKALABYA AWARD
i.Sprinter Srabani Nanda has bagged the 24th Ekalabya Award for the year 2016 in recognition of her sporting excellence.
ii. Srabani won gold in 200m, silver in 100m and 4x100m relay in 12th South Asian Games held in Guwahati in February.
iii. She had also won bronze in 100m and 4x100m relay in Asian Grand Prix Athletics in Thailand in June 2015.

1. INDIAN AIR FORCE DAY OBSERVED ON 8TH OCTOBER
i. The Air Force Day is observed annually on 8 October across India.
ii.It is  the 84th celebration of the Day which began in 1932.

2. FOREX RESERVES TOUCH RECORD HIGH OF $372 BILLION
i. India's foreign exchange reserves scaled a new high of USD 371.99 billion.
Ii. The reserves had risen by USD 1.166 billion to USD 370.766 billion.

3. FUND OF RS.114 CR APPROVED FOR HRIDAY PROJECTS
i. The Union Ministry of Urban Development has approved projects worth Rs.114 crore under HRIDAY scheme.
ii.The scheme is approved  for improving infrastructure facilities around core heritage sites in five cities.
ii. These five cities are: Varanasi, Amritsar,Dwaraka , Puri and Warangal.

4. INDIA’S FIRST INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION CENTRE INAUGRATED BY DEVENDRA FADNAVIS
i. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated India’s first centre for international arbitration in Mumbai.
ii. The MCIA will be governed by a 17-member governing council.
iii. The Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration will initially be located at Express Towers.
