1. PM MODI 9TH MOST POWERFUL PERSON REPORT BY FORBES
i. Prime minister Narendra Modi has ranked 9th on the Forbes list of 74 of the World's Most Powerful People.
ii. The list has topped by Russian President Vladimir Putin for a fourth straight year and had US President-elect Donald Trump in the second place.
iii. Barack Obama is at 48th spot.

2. 'BREXIT' AND 'GET YOUR FREAK ON' ADDED TO OXFORD DICTIONARY
i. 'Brexit' and 'Grexit' (hypothetical withdrawal of Greece from the EU) are among the 1,500 new words and phrases added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
ii. 'Get your freak on' (sexual activity, especially unconventional) and 'glam-ma' (glamorous grandmother) have also been added. 'Bomb', a surfing term for large wave, and 'Bama', popularised by Beyoncé in Formation, are among the additions.

3. PAYTM LAUNCHES ‘EACH ONE, TEACH ONE’ TO INCREASE DIGITAL INCLUSION
i. Paytm has announced a program to increase the digital inclusion in the country where in it is calling upon consumers and merchants across India to teach others on how to use Paytm to pay and accept money.
ii. The campaign is aimed at transforming user behaviour and further accelerating the country’s ongoing shift from cash to digital payments.

4. RIO GETS UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE STATUS
i. The Marvelous City or Rio de Janeiro officially has entered into the UN’s list of world heritage sites while UNESCO status was announced in 2012 in recognition of its soaring granite cliffs, urban rainforest and beaches.
ii. The UN cultural body, UNESCO given this status to Rio to highlighted the “extraordinary fusion” of man-made and natural beauty.

5. GOVT ANNOUNCES LUCKY GRAAHAK YOJANA FROM CHRISTMAS
i. The Government has announced to launch a 'Lucky Graahak Yojana' and 'Digi Dhan Yojana' to encourage digital payments.
ii. Schemes will begin from 25th Dec till April 14, 2017.
iii. 7,000 weekly awards and a maximum award of Rs 50,000 each for merchants will be awarded under Digi Dhan Vyapari Yojna.

1. INDO AND RUSSIAN BILATERAL NAVAL EXERCISE INDRA NAVY- 2016 BEGINS
i. The 9th edition of Indra Navy exercise between Indian Navy and Russian Navy began in the Bay of Bengal.
ii. This annual bilateral maritime exercise will continue till 21 December 2016.
iii. The main aim of this exercise is to enhance the interoperability between the two navies and develop the common understanding of maritime security operations.
iv. The first edition of this maritime exercise between India and Russia was first held in 2003.

2. ANDY MURRAY AND  ANGELIQUE KERBER NAMED ITF PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
i. Briton Andy Murray and Germany's Angelique Kerber were named ITF World Champions.
ii. Murray won Wimbledon in July and retained his crown in Rio de Janeiro in August.
iii. Kerber won the Australian and U.S. Open titles as well as an Olympic silver medal in Rio.

3. GUJARAT TO HAVE WAGAH-LIKE BORDER VIEWING POINT
i. The ever-popular ‘border viewing point’ of the Wagah border will soon be recreated in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district.
ii. The announcement was made by the state’s Chief Minister Vijay Rupani at the inaugural event of the annual ‘Rann-Utsav’ at Dhordo in the Rann of Kutch .
iii. The new viewing point will be opened at Nadabet near Suigam, a village near the India-Pakistan border.
 iv. The main purpose of the development is to promote tourism and all tourists visiting the centre will be provided with the same facilities that are made available at the Wagah Border.

4. PV SINDHU WINS MOST IMPROVED PLAYER AWARD
i. Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu has won the Badminton World Federation  2016 Most Improved Player of the Year award at the Players’ in Dubai.
ii. Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is an Indian professional badminton player. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal.

1. INDIA, INDONESIA SIGNED THREE AGREEMENTS
i. India and Indonesia have signed three agreements following delegation-level talks headed by PM Narendra Modi and visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
ii. The agreements to boost the bilateral relations between the two nation.

2. ANTONIO GUTERRES SWORN IN AS UN SECRETARY-GENERAL
i. Antonio Guterres was sworn in as the ninth UN Secretary-General.
ii. He will succeed Ban Ki-moon as the ninth chief of the organisation
iii. President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson administered the Oath of Office to Guterres at a special plenary meeting of the 193-member General Assembly.

3. PUNJAB GOVT LAUNCHES COUNTRY'S 1ST AMPHIBIOUS BUS PROJECT
i. The Punjab government has launched country's first amphibious bus project at the Harike wetland near Amritsar.
ii. This amphibious bus project was launched by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
iii. The project has cost the state government over Rs 11 crore.

4. VIVEK RAMASWAMY, APOORVA MEHTA INCLUDED IN FORBES' UNDER 40 RICH LIST
i. Two Indian-origin men have listed in Forbes magazine's second annual list of wealthiest entrepreneurs under the age of 40.
ii. The list is topped by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
iii. Vivek Ramaswamy, a successful biotech entrepreneur has been ranked 24th and Apoorva Mehta stands at 31st spot.

1. KAILASH SATYARTHI’S ‘100 MILLION FOR 100 MILLION’ CAMPAIGN
i. President Pranab Mukherjee has  launched the '100 Million for 100 Million Campaign' organised by The Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation.
ii. The Campaign aims at mobilizing 100 million youth and children for the upliftment of 100 million underprivileged children across the world.

2. PAOLO GENTILONI SWORN-IN AS ITALY'S NEW PM
i. Paolo Gentiloni has been elected as Italy's new Prime Minister.
ii. Gentiloni, who served as the Foreign Minister under Renzi, was asked by President Sergio Mattarella to form a new centre-left government that will guide Italy to elections due by February 2018.

3. IAMAI SETS UP COMMITTEE TO WORK ON FIGHTING ONLINE PIRACY
i. Internet and Mobile Association of India has constituted a committee to fight against the problem of online piracy and develop suitable business standards.
ii. Ajit Mohan of Hotstar will be the chairman of the committee.

4. WORLD'S LONGEST TUNNEL OPENS IN SWITZERLAND
i. The world’s longest tunnel, Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland was opened for regular rail services.
ii. It will carry passengers under the Swiss Alps from Zurich to Lugano.

1. INDIA-UK CONFERENCE ON EASE OF DOING BUSINESS
i. The India-UK Conference on Ease of Doing Business concluded in New Delhi.
ii. This conference would act as an opportunity to enhance the strategic bilateral partnership between the two nations.
iii. The conference was jointly inaugurated by Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary of Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Dominic Asquith, the British High Commissioner.

2. 28TH EDITION OF SIMCON 2016
i. The 28th State Information Ministers Conference was organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
ii. The conference was chaired by Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu.
iii. The aim of the conference is to promote partnership among Centre and State, to discuss key issues in the films & broadcasting sector.

3. RAJENDAR KUMAR APPOINTED AS NEW CBDT MEMBER
i. Senior IRS officer Rajendra Kumar has been appointed as the new Member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
ii. The Central Board of Direct Taxes is a statutory authority functioning under the Central Board of Revenue Act, 1963. It is headquartered at New Delhi.

4. RATAN P. WATAL SUBMITTED ITS REPORT TO FINANCE MINSTER TO BOOST DIGITAL PAYMENT
i. The committee formed by Finance Ministry to boost Digital Payment system in India submitted its report to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
ii. The report recommended including those group of citizens into the digital payment system who are not well versed with it so that they can use it for their benefit and reduce dependence on cash.

1. HUMAN RIGHTS DAY OBSERVED ON 10TH DECEMBER
i. The Human Rights Day is observed on 10 December.
ii. It aims at promoting and raising awareness of the two Covenants of Human Rights Day.
iii. Human Rights Day was stated in 1948.
iv. It has stood as the first major stride forward in ensuring that the rights of every human across the globe are protected.

2. INDIA AND VIETNAM INK NUCLEAR COOPERATION PACT
i. India and Vietnam have signed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement, it will  strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
ii. The two countries signed three other agreements also— to enhance aviation links, to jointly work in the area of energy efficiency and promotion of parliamentary cooperation.

3. 21ST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF KERALA
i. The 21st International Film Festival of Kerala started in Thiruvananthapuram.
ii. The Festival opened with Navid Mahmoudi's directorial debut 'Raftan,' which narrates the story of a couple attempting to migrate from Iran to Europe.

4. JAPAN LAUNCHES KOUNOTORI 6 CARGO SPACESHIP
i. Japan has successfully launched a rocket carrying the unmanned cargo spaceship Kounotori 6 to deliver supplies for astronauts living in the International Space Station.
ii. The H-2B rocket carrying the spaceship lifted off from the Tanegashima Space Centre in southwestern Japan.
iii. The spaceship carries some 5.9 tonnes of supplies, including food, drinking water and other necessities, as well as some batteries and ultrasmall satellites.

5. PETER GILCHRIST GRABBED THE LONG UP TITLE OF IBSF WORLD BILLIARDS
i. Peter Gilchrist of Singapore defeated Sourav Kothari to win the 2016 IBSF World Billiards Long Up title.
ii. The event was held in Bengaluru.

1. DONALD TRUMP NAMED TIME PERSON OF THE YEAR 2016
i. The TIME magazine has named US President-elect Donald Trump as Person of the Year 2016 and called him the President of the 'Divided States of America'.
ii. The magazine cited his role for the stunning victory in the US Presidential election.
iii. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the 11 candidates shortlisted by Time for its annual honour.

2. NABARD TO PROVIDE RS. 120 CR TO BANKS FOR SETTING UP POS DEVICES IN VILLAGES
i. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development said it will extend support aggregating about Rs. 120 crore to banks for deployment of two Point-of-Sale devices per village in one lakh villages having a population of up to 10,000.
ii. The move is aimed at taking rural India closer towards cashless payment systems.

3. MAHILA E-HAAT TIES UP WITH INDIA POST, SBI
i. The Women and Child Development Ministry has tied up with India Post and SBI.
ii. This will offer more payment options to buyers and simplify shipping of products bought from "Mahila E-haat", an online marketing platform for women entrepreneurs.

4. KARNATAKA BANK GETS AWARD
i. Karnataka Bank Ltd has bagged the ‘Best MSME Bank Award (private sector) 2016’ instituted by Assocham.
ii. Union Minister of State for MSME Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary handed over the award.

1. HARRY POTTER TOPS AMAZON'S BEST-SELLING BOOKS OF 2016
i. Amazon has announced Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as the best-selling book of 2016.
ii. The playscript by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, was also named this year's 'Most Wished For' and 'Most Gifted' book.

2. US DESIGNATES INDIA AS MAJOR DEFENCE PARTNER
i. India and the United States vowed to expand the bilateral defence cooperation.
ii. Outgoing American defence secretary Ashton Carter met his counterpart Manohar Parrikar in New Delhi for the record-breaking seventh time.
iii. He termed New Delhi as a "major defence partner".

3. TWO BANKS OF ABU DHABI TO MERGE AS THE BIGGEST BANK IN GULF NATION
i. Stockholders of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and First Gulf Bank on December 7, 2016, approved to merge into the biggest bank of all Gulf Countries with an asset of $ 178 billion.
ii. After the merger the combined company will be named as NBAD.
iii. The FGB shareholders will receive 1.254 NBAD shares for each FGB share they hold and FGB stockholders will own 52% of the new bank.

ii. Terry Edward Branstad is an American politician who is the 42nd Governor of Iowa, in office since January 2011. Branstad was also the state's 39th governor from 1983 to 1999, and he was president of Des Moines University from 2003 to 2009.
