1. International Volunteer Day – 5 December
i. The International Volunteer Day was observed across the world with the theme Global Applause– give volunteers a hand.
ii. This year's theme recognizes the volunteers worldwide and their efforts in making peace and sustainable development a reality.
iii. The Day was designated in 1985 by the United Nations as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism.

2. World Soil Day 2016 – 5 December
i. The World Soil Day was observed at the Food and Agriculture Organization headquarters in Rome.
ii. The theme for the WSD is “Soils and pulses, a symbiosis for life.”
iii. The year 2016 was declared as the International Year of Pulses by 68th UN General Assembly.

3. The 6th Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia
i. The 6th Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process concluded on after adopting the Amritsar Declaration. The declaration recognised terrorism as the biggest threat to peace and demands an immediate end to all forms of terrorism.
ii. The Conference was co-chaired by Arun Jaitley, Union Finance Minister and Salahuddin Rabbani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

• These notes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 will not have inset letter in both the number panels.
• It will bear the signature of Dr Urjit R Patel, Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
• The year of printing that is '2016' will be printed on the reverse of the banknote.
Features of Rs 20 denomination banknotes
• The new Rs 20 denomination currency notes will be printed with inset letter ‘L’ in both the number panels.
• It will bear the signature of Dr Urjit R Patel, Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
• The year of printing '2016' will be printed on the backside of the banknote.

1. HAILAKHANDI FIRST IN ASSAM TO PAY TEA WORKERS VIA BANK ACCOUNT
i. Hailakandi has become the first district in Assam to pay wages to tea garden workers through individual bank accounts.
ii. The state has set december 15 as deadline for cashless transactions to the plantation workers.

2. INDIA TO TRAIN QATAR POLICE TO HOST FIFA WORLD CUP 2022
i. India will train Qatar police for handling the security during the FIFA World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in that country.
ii. The training arrangement was agreed upon during a meeting between Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.

3. HEART OF ASIA' CONFERENCE HAS KICKED OFF IN AMRITSAR
i. The sixth 'Heart of Asia' ministerial conference has started in n Amritsar, Punjab .
ii. The main aim is to discuss peace, cooperation and economic development in Afghanistan.
iii. Delegates from nearly 40 countries will participate in the conference organised on the theme 'Addressing Challenges, Achieving Prosperity'.
