1. IMF LOWERS INDIA’S GDP GROWTH RATE TO 6.6% FROM 7.6%
i. According to the World Economic Outlook report the International Monetary Fund has lowered the India’s GDP growth rate for the current fiscal year by one point to 6.6% from its previous estimate of 7.6 % due to the effect of demonetization on consumption and expenditure.
ii. IMF also cut India’s GDP forecast for 2017-18 by 0.4 points to 7.2 percent as against previous forecast of 7.6 percent.
iv. The global growth for 2016 was estimated at 3.1 % that remained unchanged from previous forecast while for 2017 the global forecast is estimated at 3.4 % for advanced and 3.6 % for developing economies.

2. YES BANK LAUNCHES BUSINESS ACCELERATOR PROGRAM YES FINTECH
i. Private sector lender YES BANK in collaboration with T-Hub, Anthill and Let’s Talk Payments launched a unique business accelerator program “YES FINTECH” to provide start-ups a platform for creating sustainable and market ready products as well as provide innovative banking solutions to the customers.
ii. YES FINTECH has invited start-ups applications from across the global community on its website www.yesfintech.com. It will select top 12 start-ups for 15 week dual destination program to be held in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
iii. The focus areas will be payments, forex & treasury, trade finance, capital markets, lending, customer value added services, enterprise software and government risk & compliance.
iv. T-Hub is India’s fastest growing start-up engine specialized in innovation, scale and deal flow. Anthill and Let’s Talk Payments are global platform for financial technology.

3. RBI HIKES CASH WITHDRAWAL LIMIT FROM ATMS TO RS. 10,000 PER DAY
i. The Reserve Bank of India from January 16, 2017 has increased the limit of cash withdrawal from ATMs to Rs 10,000 per day from the current Rs 4,500 with immediate effect.
ii. However the bank made no changes to the weekly withdrawal limits which is Rs 24,000.
iii. The total limit to withdraw from current accounts has also been increased to Rs 1,00,000 per week from the current limit of Rs 50,000 per week which will also be applicable on the overdraft and cash credit accounts.

4. PETROLEUM CONSERVATION CAMPAIGN ‘SAKSHAM 2017’ INAUGURATED IN NAGALAND
i. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas inaugurated one month long oil and gas conservation campaign “Saksham-2017” at a function in Unity College, Dimapur in Nagaland.
ii. The awareness campaign was inaugurated by chief guest Ramongo Lotha, secretary Food and Civil Supplies.
iii. The main objective of the campaign is to spread the awareness on fuel conservation so as to minimize the wastage of petroleum products as the demand for it remains high.
iv. India is the Third largest global consumer of petroleum and imports 80 % of the crude oil to meet the demand.
vi. The awareness campaign on oil and gas conservation is conducted every year by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

5. INDIA SIGNS FINANCING AGREEMENT WITH WORLD BANK FOR US$ 48 MILLION FOR “NAGALAND HEALTH PROJECT”
i. The Joint Secretary of Department of Economic Affairs Mr. Raj Kumar and Acting Country Director of the World Bank Mrs. Genevieve Connors are signed financing agreement for IDA credit of US$ 48 million for the ‘Nagaland Health Project’.
ii. The Nagaland Health Project has approved by the World Bank. The deadline of Nagaland health Project is 31st March, 2023.
iii. Its objective is to improve health services and increase their utilization by communities in targeted locations in Nagaland.

6. INDIA, MAURITIUS SIGNED MOU FOR COOPERATION IN COOPERATIVE SECTOR
i. India and Mauritius has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate cooperation in the cooperative sector.
ii. The MoU was signed by Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives Minister of Mauritius Soomilduth Bholah and Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
iii. Under this MoU, India will extend its expertise and technology to Mauritius in fisheries, agro industry and dairy sectors. The MoU will enable the two countries to collaborate in the cooperative and related sectors and benefit thousands of Mauritians.

1.  WPI INFLATION RISES TO 3.39% IN DECEMBER 2016
i. Breaking a 3-month declining trend, wholesale inflation rose to 3.39% in December 2016.
ii. Wholesale price index-based inflation had stood at 3.15% in November 2016, and minus 1.06% in December 2015.
iii. The increase was mainly due to a rise in prices of manufactured items, even as food articles turned cheaper.
iv. According to Ministry of commerce and industry’s data, overall wholesale food inflation fell to minus 0.7% in December 2016, from 1.54% in November. But inflation in manufactured articles rose to 3.67% in December, from 3.2% in November.

i. 2016 was India's warmest year ever since the documenting of meteorological records began in 1901.
ii. The information was revealed by the India Meteorological Department in its release named ‘statement of a climate of India, 2016'.

1. BSF LAUNCHES OPERATION ‘SARD HAWA’ AT RAJASTHAN BORDER
i. Border Security Force has launched its 14 day operation Sard Hawa at the western international border of Rajasthan to check the instances of infiltration due to the dense fog in the area.
ii. Its main aim is to keep a hawks eye on the international border, where vigil has been beefed-up and officers have also been asked to be part of operation to motivate jawans.

2. 2017 NATIONAL CONFERENCE “JAL MANTHAN-III” HELD IN NEW DELHI
i. The third National conference “Jal Manthan-III” was inaugurated by Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma Bharti in New Delhi.
ii. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

3. FIRST EDITION OF ABU INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION DANCE FESTIVAL HELD IN HYDERABAD
i. The first edition of the ABU International Television Dance Festival organized by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union was held in Hyderabad.
ii. Its main objective is to create a bridge between young people from different parts of the world.
iii. The event showcased the traditional and contemporary dance performances by artistes from over 10 counties across the Asia-Pacific region.
iv. The festival was inaugurated by the Union Information & Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu while the CM of Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao was the guest of honour.

4. US ENDS TWO-DECADE ECONOMIC SANCTION ON SUDAN
i. The US President Barack Obama announced to end of a 20-year economic embargo on Sudan by lifting trade and financial sanctions to build up ties with the Sudanese government.
ii. The announcement was made based on the efforts by the Government of Sudan to improve the security in the region.
iii. This will enable Sudan to receive imported goods and services from the US as well as Sudan release frozen Sudanese property and assets held in the US besides permitting the trade with the oil and gas industry in Sudan.

5. BSNL LAUNCHES AADHAR BASED E-KYC PROJECT
i .BSNL has launched its Customer Acquisition and Customer Communication Management project that aims to digitalize business process to ensure faster service, accurate customer responses and customer satisfaction.
ii. The project provides an Aadhar based e-KYC service for immediate activation of new mobile connections across the country.
iii. Under this project the customers will have the convenience of Aadhar based fast and efficient utilization of services by BSNL.

i. The CM of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the first solar-powered boat of the state water transport department, Aditya at a function held in Vaikom boat Jetty in Kerala.
ii. Piyush Goyal, Minister of State with independent charge for New & Renewable Energy,  Solar Powered boat was the chief guest.

3. 4TH INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL BEGINS IN NEW DELHI
i. Fourth International Kite Festival begins in New Delhi .
ii. Professional kite flying experts from across India and the globe are taking part in the three-day festival.
iii. A special kite making demonstration will also be organized where professional kite flyers will showcase their expertise and demonstrate the art of kite making.

4. 69TH ARMY DAY BEING OBSERVED ON 15TH JANUARY
i. The Indian Army celebrated its 69th Army Day. The day is celebrated every year on January 15 to respect the Lieutenant General of India, K. M. Cariappa who was the first Indian Army’s Commander-in-Chief.
ii. Large number of serving, veteran and civil dignitaries paid homage to martyrs at the Vijay Smarak. To mark the day, Army Parade was organised in New Delhi.

1. MINISTER OF STATE ANNOUNCES RS. 9000 MINIMUM PENSION FOR CENTRAL GOVT. EMPLOYEES
i. The Union Minister of state for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Jitendra Singh in New Delhi informed that the minimum pension for central government employees has been increased to Rs. 9,000 per person.
ii. He also stated that ex-gratia amount has been increased from Rs. 10-15 lakh to Rs. 25-35 lakh.
iii. There are about 50-55 lakh pensioners in the country and almost 88% of their accounts have been seeded to Aadhaar.

2. GLOBAL UNEMPLOYMENT TO RISE BY 3.4 MILLION IN 2017: ILO
i. According to the ILO report, Global unemployment is expected to rise by 3.4 million in 2017 and also economic growth at 3.4 per cent this year and 3.6 per cent in 2018
ii. Economic growth trends lagging behind employment needs and predicts both rising unemployment and worsening social inequality throughout 2017
iii. South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa are most affected by vulnerable employment while in India, majority of new employment was created in 2016.

3. INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION GROWS 5.7% IN NOVEMBER 2016
i. According to the latest factory output and inflation data Index of Industrial Production released by the statistics office showed industrial production at a one-year high of 5.7% in November 2016.
ii. Consumer inflation fell in December 2016 to 3.41% and CPI inflation was marginally higher at 3.63% in November 2016.
iii. Manufacturing PMI for December 2016 had shown an Industrial production grows 5.7% in November 2016.
