i. Goa government has decided to sign memorandum of understanding with
the Centre under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana to provide
subsidised medicines in the state.
ii. The MoU will be signed in June 2017 in presence of CM of Goa,
Mahohar Parrikar. Under this MoU, all pharmacy stores run by Goa State Govt.
would be converted into ‘Jan Aushadi Kendra’ in a phased manner.
iii. ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana’ has been launched
by Department of Pharmaceuticals, under Union Ministry of Chemicals and
Fertilizers to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses
through special points referred to as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi
Kendra.
2. FIRST
VIDESH SAMPARK HELD IN TELANGANA
i. 1st outreach programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, ‘Videsh
Sampark’ was hosted in Telangana. The conference was held in Hyderabad. It was
inaugurated by Gen. V.K. Singh – Minister of State for External Affairs.
ii. The objective of ‘Videsh Sampark’ conference is to involve State
Governments in creating awareness on the schemes and initiatives launched by
Ministry of External Affairs pertaining to consular and passport services,
engagement with overseas Indians, and welfare and protection of overseas
Indians.
3.
ISKCON’S GOVARDHAN ECO VILLAGE WINS SMART VILLAGE AWARD
i. Maharashtra’s Govardhan Eco Village has won the “Smart Village” award
for being a sustainable project in rural Maharashtra.
ii. The India Trade Promotion Organisation’s award was recieved by Nimai
Lila Das to Chief Sustainability Officer of Govardhan Eco Village, in New
Delhi.
iii. Eco Village was set up by the International Society for Krishna
Consciousness in adjoining Thane district. It is a farm community and retreat
centre spread over a scenic landscape of 100 acres at Galtare in Wada taluka.

RAJNATH SINGH CHAIRS NORTHERN ZONAL COUNCIL MEETING IN CHANDIGARH
i.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will chair the 28th meeting of the Northern
Zonal Council on 11th of May in Chandigarh. The 27th meeting of the Northern
Zonal Council was held at New Delhi.
ii.
North Zonal Council comprises the Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal
Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Rajasthan.
iii.
5 Zonal Councils – Central, Northern, Western, Southern and Eastern—have been
established under the State Reorganisation Act, 1956.
iv.
A zonal council will be the matter of common interest in economic and social
planning border disputes, linguistic minorities or inter-state transport.
2. NAGPUR
WILL BE THE 1ST INDIAN CITY TO GET ELECTRIC RADIO CABS
i.
Nagpur will be the 1st Indian city to get electric radio cabs. It will be
started from 24th of May. It will be launched by Union transport minister Nitin
Gadkari.
ii.
The Project will be undertaken by Nagpur Municipal Corporation.and is the 1st
project of its kind in the country. It is a method to tackle increasing
pollution in the country.
iii.
The pilot project will see around 200 e-cabs in Nagpur with the local body to
provide for the charging stations across the city. It will promote the usage of
electric and hybrid vehicles in India as the country is moving towards its goal
of going all electric by 2030.
3. PM NARENDRA
MODI’S TWO DAY VISIT TO SRI LANKA
i.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a 2-day visit to Sri Lanka. During this
visit, he participated in the International Vesak Day celebrations, the biggest
festival of Buddhists and attended several other programmes.
ii.
The theme of this year’s celebration was “Buddhist Teachings for Social Justice
and Sustainable World Peace”.
iii.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a multi-specialty hospital at Dickoya
in Nuwara Eliya district of Sri Lanka.
4. 19TH
SESSION OF INDIA-ITALY JOINT COMMISSION FOR ECONOMIC COOPERATION HELD IN ROME
i.
19th Session of India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation held in
Rome.
ii.
The Joint Commission was co-chaired by the Indian Minister of Commerce and
Industry Nirmala Sitharaman by the Italian Minister of Economic Development
Carlo Calenda.
iii.
India’s bilateral trade with Italy during 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 was US
$9.32 billion, US $8.28 billion and US $8.80 billion respectively.
5. DISHA
MICROFIN GETS FINAL NOD FROM RBI FOR SMALL FINANCE BANK
i.
Disha Microfin has received the final license from Reserve Bank to operate as a
small finance bank. The Bank will start operations from July this year. The
bank will be called Fincare Small Finance Bank.
ii.
Its main focus will be on the priority sector and retail segments, and will
additionally offer products such as gold loans and affordable housing loans.

ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA LAUNCHES NATIONAL CONTACT CENTRE
i.
The Election Commission of India has launched National Contact Centre.The
National Contact Centre is operated on a National Grievance Redressal System
Software.
ii.
This software is a single window platform to manage complaints and feedback
received through calls, SMS, emails and website access in an integrated and time-bound
manner.
iii.
Each state and UT will also soon setup and operationalize dedicated State
Contact Centre and District Contact Centre.
iv.
It will ensure seamless flow of information across the contact centers for
handling issues/ query from citizens.

AHMEDABAD TO HOST BIGGEST EVER INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY EVENT ON JUNE 21
i.
Ahmedabad is going to host biggest International Yoga Day event on 21st June.
The event will include the participation of 5 Lakh people.
ii.
The event would be inaugurated by the state’s CM Vijay Rupani and BJP president
Amit Shah.
iii.
It would be jointly hosted by the city’s GMDC and AES grounds.

UNION ROAD TRANSPORT MINISTER NITIN GADKARI LAUNCHES NHAI’S FIRST MASALA BOND
IN UK
i.
The National Highways Authority of India has raised Rs. 3000 cr through Masala
Bonds at London Stock Exchange. Funds raised through these Masala Bonds will be
used for constructing roads and transport infrastructure in India.
ii.
The NHAI Masala Bonds issue was launched by Nitin Gadkari, Union Road Transport
Minister in London.
iii.
Initially, issue size of NHAI Masala Bonds was Rs. 1500 cr. Owing to positive
response from investors, the issue size was raised to Rs. 3000 cr. These bonds
will give 3% annual returns to investors.
4.
VVS LAXMAN NAMED AN HONORARY LIFE MEMBER OF MCC
i.
Former India batsman V V S Laxman was awarded an honorary life membership to
the Marylebone Cricket Club.
ii.
Laxman is the 5th Indian to receive the honour, after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav
Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan.

BISHU PARV OR SENDRA OBSERVED IN DALMA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
i.
The 2017 hunting festival “BishuParv” was observed in Jharkhand. The Dalma
Wildlife Sanctuary is located 10 km from the city of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.
ii.
The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for holding many elephants and other
animals, which come downhill during the monsoons and winter and enter nearby
villages and towns of Jharkhand and West Bengal.
2.
YOGI ADITYANATH GOVT. TO MERGE LOCAL BODIES OF MATHURA-VRINDAVAN,
AYODHYA-FAIZABAD
i.
The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government decided to merge the local
bodies of two temple towns of
Ayodhya-Faizabad and Mathura-Vrindavan.
ii.
Its main aim is to generate more revenue by providing better facilities to the
tourists.
iii.
To strengthen the infrastructure and to purify the Yamuna and to facilitate
local residents and pilgrims, it has been decided to make Mathura and Vrindavan
together to form a municipal corporation.

I-T DEPT LAUNCHES E-FACILITY TO LINK PERSON’S AADHAAR WITH PAN
i.
The Income Tax department has launched a new e-facility to link a person’s
Aadhaar with the Permanent Account Number. It is a mandatory procedure for
filing I-T returns.
ii.
The department’s e-filing website – https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in – has
created a new link on its homepage making it “easy” to link the two unique
identities of an individual.
iii.
There is no need to login or be registered on e-filing website. This facility
can be used by anyone to link their Aadhaar with PAN.
iv.
The government under the Finance has made it mandatory for taxpayers to quote
Aadhaar or enrolment ID of Aadhaar application form for filing of income tax
returns (ITR).

ICICI BANK CHIEF CHANDA KOCHHAR RECEIVES ‘WOODROW WILSON AWARD’ FOR GLOBAL
CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP

Chanda Kochhar, the MD and Chief Executive of ICICI Bank became the 1st Indian
woman to be conferred with the prestigious Woodrow Wilson Award for Global
Corporate Citizenship.

The award was conferred by Woodrow Wilson Centre in Washington DC, US. Ms.
Kochhar received this award for demonstrating a commitment to the common good

1. GOVERNMENT SETS UP A HIGH-LEVEL TASK FORCE TO COMPUTE TIMELY
DATA ON EMPLOYMENT
i. The government has set up a high-level task force to
compute timely data on employment situation in the country. It will help in
framing policies and it will also help in creating jobs.
ii. According to a task force has been created under the
chairmanship of NITI Aayog’s vice chairman Arvind Panagariya with labour
secretary Sathiyavathy, secretary statistics T.C.A. Ananth, Manish Sabharwal
and Pulak Ghosh of NITI Aayog as members.
iii. The task force will recommend solutions which can be
implemented in a time bound manner official think tank NITI Aayog. PM Modi has
directed that this task be accelerated so that policies on employment can be
formulated with a proper appreciation of impacts, based on credible data.
2. INDIA WINS STAY AT INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE IN
KULBHUSHAN JADHAV CASE
i. The International Court of Justice stayed the execution
of Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, who has been sentenced to death by a
Pakistani military court on charges of “spying”.
ii. The order by the Hague-based International Court of
Justice came a day after India approached it against the death sentence to
Jadhav by Pakistan’s Field General Court Martial last month.
iii. India has appealed to the International Court of
Justice accused Pakistan of outstandingly bad violations of the Vienna
Convention on Consular Relations.
iv. Pakistan claimed to have arrested him from Balochistan
on 3 March 2016.The International Court of Justice said India urged it to
restrain Pakistan from carrying out the death sentence direct Islamabad to take
steps to cancel the decision of the military court.
3. PM MODI LAUNCHES INTEGRATED CASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF SUPREME
COURT IN PRESENCE OF CJI
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Integrated Case
Management Information System of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of India, J S
Khehar and Union Law and IT Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad was also present at
the occasion.
ii. This system will serve as a digital repository for
case-related information, enabling litigants to access data and retrieve
information online. All records of cases at district court or high court will
be available in digital form.
iii. It is a step in the direction of paperless Supreme
Court, which contributes to saving environment as well as achieving the vision
of ‘Digital India’.
4. SEBI ALLOWS SUBSCRIPTION TO MF SCHEMES THROUGH E-WALLETS
i. Securities markets regulator SEBI has permitted
subscription to mutual fund schemes through e-wallets.
ii. According to SEBI’s guidelines, investors can invest up
to Rs 50,000 per MF per financial year through e-wallets.
iii. AMCs/ MFs shall ensure that only amounts loaded into
e-wallet through cash or debit card or net banking, can be used for
subscription to MF schemes. AMCs/ MFs shall ensure that e-wallet issuers shall
not offer any incentives such as cashback, voucher.
iv. AMCs/ MFs can offer IAF only in liquid schemes of the
MF. The monetary limit under IAF shall be Rs 50,000 or 90% of latest value of
investment in the scheme, whichever is lower.

SAMADHAN – RAJNATH SINGH COINS AN ACRONYM TO WIPE OUT LEFT-WING TERROR
i. A meeting of the Chief
Ministers of states affected by Left-Wing Extremism, presided over by Union
Home Minister Rajnath Singh was held in New Delhi.
ii. In the meeting, Mr.
Rajnath Singh announced SAMADHAN, a new strategy to wipe out left – wing terror.
iii. Other Govt.
functionaries who attended the meeting included Rajiv Mehrishi – Union Home
Secretary, Ajit Doval – National Security Adviser, Director of Intelligence
Bureau, State Heads of Police Department and Heads of the Central Forces.

29TH INDIA- INDONESIA CO-ORDINATED PATROL COMMENCES
i. The 29th series of
India–Indonesia CORPAT is scheduled from 9th to 25th May 17.
ii. The opening ceremony
being conducted at Port Blair. It will be conducted under the aegis of Andaman
and Nicobar Command.
iii. The CORPAT serves to
enhance mutual understanding and inter–operability between the two navies.

INDIA UNANIMOUSLY ELECTED TO HEAD UN-HABITAT, THE UNITED NATIONS’ HUMAN
SETTLEMENTS PROGRAMME
i. India has been
unanimously elected as the President of UN-Habitat for next 2 years. UN-Habitat
is an organ of United Nations, which promotes environmentally and socially
sustainable global human settlements.
ii. Consequential to
India being elected as President of UN-Habitat, Union Minister of Housing &
Urban Poverty Alleviation - Venkaiah Naidu chaired the 26th Meeting of the
Governing Council of UN-Habitat which began in Nairobi, Kenya.
iii. Theme of 26th
Meeting of the Governing Council of UN-Habitat was “Opportunities for effective
implementation of the New Urban Agenda”.

COUNTRY’S 1ST BIO REFINERY PLANT INAUGURATED IN PUNE
i. Nitin Gadkari, Union
Minister for Road Transport and Highway inaugurated India’s 1st bio refinery
plant for renewable fuels and chemicals at Rahu in Pune district of
Maharashtra.
ii. This plant has been
set up by Praj Industries. It can produce 1 million litre of ethanol per annum
by processing a variety of agro-residue like rice and wheat straw, cane trash,
cotton stalk and corn cobs. With further research and development, pipeline of
other renewable fuels and chemicals will also be produced from this technology
platform.
iii. India’s National
Policy on Bio fuels has set indicative target of 20% blending of biofuels, both
for bio-diesel and bio-ethanol.
2.
CRPF COMMAND SHIFTED FROM KOLKATA TO CHHATTISGARH
i. Central Reserve Police
Force has shifted its strategic anti-Maoist command headquarters from Kolkata
to Chhattisgarh.
ii. Its aim is to bring
focus on combing operations in Chhattisgarh. This decision has been taken as
surprise attack in Sukma district that killed 37 jawans of the paramilitary
force.
iii. The move is in line
with the Centre’s plan to redeploy its forces from peaceful West Bengal to
Maoist of Abujmad in Chhattisgarh.

DIPP, WIPO TO SET UP TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION SUPPORT CENTRES FOR IP
GENERATION
i. Industrial promotion
body DIPP and the World Intellectual Property Organisation have signed an
agreement to establish Technology and Innovation Support Centres in the
country.
ii. Its aim is to boost
generation and commercialization of intellectual properties. It will provide an
impulsion to knowledge sharing, capacity building and sharing of best practices
among the over 500 TISCs operating worldwide.
iii. WIPO’s TISC
programme provides innovators in developing countries with access to locally
based, high quality technology information and related services.
iv. It helps in creating
protecting and managing their intellectual property rights. The Cell for IPR
Promotion and Management act as the main intermediary between WIPO and TISC.
