1. LOK SABHA PASSES IIIT PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP BILL 2017
i. A bill to grant statutory status to the Indian Institutes of Information Technology in Public Private Partnership mode was passed through a voice vote in Lok Sabha. The Government has also mentioned that fees for the poor students will not increase and that reservation law will apply in these institutes.
ii. The previous United Progressive Alliance government initiated the opening of 20 IIITs with private partnership of which 15 are already operational.
iii. The 15 IIITs that are currently operational are located in Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), Vadodara (Gujarat), Guwahati (Assam), Sonipat (Haryana), Una (Himachal Pradesh), Dharwad (Karnataka), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Kottayam (Kerala), Nagpur and Pune (both Maharashtra), Senapati (Manipur), Kota (Rajasthan), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) and Kalyani (West Bengal).

1. MAHARASHTRA GOVT APPROVES REVISED POLICY OF ‘MAJHI KANYA BHAGYASHREE’ SCHEME
i. The Maharashtra government has approved a revised policy of the ‘Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree’ scheme who have a yearly income of upto Rs 7.5 lakh will be benefited from this scheme.
ii. According to the earlier provisions, the ‘Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree’ scheme is for those girls who come under Below Poverty Line families and those whose annual income was upto Rs 1 lakh.
ii .According to the revised provisions, families having an income upto Rs 7.5 lakh will be eligible for the scheme. As per the revised provisions after having the 1st girl child, if the mother or the father undergoes a family planning operation, a sum of Rs 50,000 shall be deposited in a bank in the name of the girl child.
iv. The scheme will be valid only if there are a maximum of two girl children born. In case a third child is born, the scheme shall become invalid for the first two as well.
v. The scheme has been launched by the state government on 1st April 2016 in place of ‘Sukanya’ scheme. It is aimed at improving the skewed girl child ratio, prevent sex determination and female foeticide, and support female education.

2. SHALA SIDDHI PROHATSAN YOJANA STARTED IN 25,000 MP SCHOOLS
i. Madhya Pradesh’s school education department is going to start programmes such as ‘Hamari Shala Kaisi Ho’ and ‘Shala Siddhi Karyakram’ in all government schools of the state.
ii. It aims to provide qualitative education to the government school students. The State Education Centre has also started Shala Siddhi Prohatsan Yojana under the programme in 25 thousand schools of the state to encourage best works.
iii. A time table has also been fixed for the award process going by the time table, the district core committees would be required to form block-level selection committees by 22nd July. The selected schools will be required to forward their applications for Shala Siddhi Karyakram to Sankul Principals by 28 July.
v. The selection committee will then forward applications of 3 primary and 3 middle schools for awards to the District Institute for Education and Training.

1. BILL INTRODUCED IN LS FOR SETTING UP PETROLEUM INSTITUTE IN AP
i. A bill has introduced in Lok Sabha for setting up of the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy in Andhra Pradesh
ii. According to the Objects and Reasons of the bill the institute would be established in Visakhapatnam district in pursuance of the central government’s commitment for setting up a petroleum university.
iii. Under the bill, there is a provision for constituting a board of governors as well as general council for the institute. The institute would provide high quality education and conduct advance research in all aspects relating to the conventional hydrocarbons.
iv. Under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Bill, 2017 was introduced by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan.

2. SC ALLOWS CENTRE TO REPLACE MCI OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
i. The Supreme Court has allowed the Centre to replace the MCI oversight committee and to supervise the functioning of the Medical Council of India with a fresh panel of five eminent doctors.
ii. A five-judge Constitution bench is headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar observed that the Centre should constitute a panel which would replace the oversight committee.
iii. The committee set up by the court on 2nd May 2016 last was to function for a period of one year or till a suitable mechanism was brought in by the Centre to substitute it.

3. REQUISITIONING AND ACQUISITION OF IMMOVABLE PROPERTY (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2017 INTRODUCED IN LOK SABHA
i. ‘Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property (Amendment) Bill, 2017’, a bill providing for amendment to the regulations governing compensation amount payable at the time of acquisition of immovable property by the central government was introduced in the Lok Sabhai by Minister of State for Planning, Programme Implementation and Statistics Rao Inderjit Singh.
ii. The Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property Act that came into force in 1952, empowers the central government to requisition any immovable property and also to acquire them under certain specified conditions.
iii. The amendment bill to this act has been introduced amid instances of persons interested in a property challenging the acquisition move citing that they were not given the opportunity for personal hearing.

4. KOLKATA TO HOST GLOBAL BUSINESS MEET IN NOVEMBER 2017
i. The Indian Chamber of Commerce, in association with the West Bengal Government, will host Horasis Asia Meeting, a Global Business meeting, in November 2017.
ii. The two-day business meet will start from 26th November, 2017. It will focus on sustainable business practices in various areas, including power and energy.
iii. The event will be attended by over 500 delegates from over 65 countries.

1. INDIA & SRI LANKA SIGN MOU TO DEVELOP VILLAGE IN ANURADHAPURA DISTRICT
i. India and Sri Lanka have signed a MoU to develop a village in Anuradhapura District. The total estimated cost is Rs 30 cr Sri Lankan rupees.
ii. The MoU was signed by Mr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and Mrs. W.K.K. Athukorala, Secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Construction in the presence of Parliament Speaker Mr. KaruJayasuriya.
iii. The project is in line with Government of Sri Lanka’s policy of rehabilitation of rural villages for economic development. It will benefit 153 families residing in the village.
iv. The village in the name of a famous Buddhist monk SobithaThero, a multipurpose community building, internal water supply system and renovation of monk’s quarters & library.

1. GOVT LAUNCHES GST TRAINING PROGRAMME
i. The government has launched a GST training programme to skill around 2 lakh youths in six months and to handle tax compliance issues like invoice making.
ii. The people would be trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.  It will be implemented in 14 states and in the next 6 months, 2 lakh people will  GST get complete training about GST.
iii. The new GST training programme helps businesses in areas such as registration and calculation of tax liability under the new tax regime.
iv. The ministry also launched a national portal for assessors and trainers besides 51 new PMKVY centres. Now, the total number of PMKVY centres has increased to 200.
v. To mark the 2nd anniversary of Skill India mission the ministry has inaugurated the training course at 100 centres in the country.

2. MATUNGA BECOMES INDIA’S FIRST RAILWAY STATION RUN BY WOMEN
i. In a bid to empower women, Central Railway has appointed all women staff at suburban Matunga railway station, thereby making it India’s 1st railway station run by women. A formal event to mark all women railway station will be held soon.
ii. A total of 30 women staffers, including 11 booking clerks, 5 Railway Protection Force personnel, 7 ticket checkers are working under the supervision of station manager Mamta Kulkarni since last two weeks.
iii. Matunga railway station, which is located in central Mumbai, gets a huge number of student population as a lot of colleges are located in the area.

1. GADKARI INAUGURATE ROAD CONGRESS MEET IN UDAIPUR
i. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the 212th meeting of Indian Road Congress in Udaipur, Rajasthan
ii. The Indian Road Congress is the apex body of highway engineers in the country. During his -day visit, he will also attend a discussion by Udaipur chamber of commerce on economic growth of Rajasthan with development of roads and infrastructure.
iii. According to a spokesperson of the state transport department Rajasthan Transport Minister Yunus Khan would also accompany him.

2. RAIPUR SWAMI VIVEKANANDA AIRPORT RANKED FIRST IN CUSTOMER SATISFACTION INDEX SURVEY
i. Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has ranked 1st in Customer Satisfaction Index Survey among 49 airports in India. Raipur Airport has scored highest, 4.84 on a 5 point scale index in the latest Customer Satisfaction Index Survey conducted by an independent agency for the period of January-June 2017.
ii. It has topped this survey for the 3rd consecutive time in the past two years. Raipur Airport is followed by Udaipur, Amritsar and Dehradun airports which have scored 4.75, 4.74 and 4.73 respectively.

1. 2-DAY CONFERENCE ON CROWD MANAGEMENT CONCLUDES IN KERALA
i. The two-day national conference on crowd management has successfully concluded at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
ii .The conference was organised by the National Disaster Management Authority and Kerala State Disaster Management Authority.
iii. It set up the stage for adoption of best practices and use of technology to reduce risks at mass gathering events across the country. The conference has brought to focus on varied issues relevant to efficient crowd management.
iv. The detailed discussions were held on issues pertaining to planning and interagency coordination, including the role of Police, National Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence and Non Governmental Organisations.
v. The discussions will aid the revision of NDMA Guidelines on ‘Managing Crowd at Events and Venues of Mass Gathering’ which was first issued in 2014.

1. SHRI J P NADDA LAUNCHES THE NATIONAL STRATEGIC PLAN FOR MALARIA ELIMINATION 2017-22
i. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda, launched the National Strategic Plan for Malaria Elimination (2017-22) at a function in New Delhi.
ii. The Strategic Plan gives year wise elimination targets in various parts of the country depending upon the endemicity of malaria in the next 5 years. It is to be noted that National Framework for Malaria Elimination that was launched last year outlined India’s commitment for eliminating malaria by 2030.

2. DIPP TO SET UP INDIA’S FIRST TISC IN PUNJAB
i. The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, signed an Institutional agreement with the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology in New Delhi to establish India’s 1st Technology and Innovation Support Center at Patent Information Centre, Punjab, under the World Intellectual Property Organization’s TISC program.
ii. The objective of the TISC is to stimulate a dynamic, vibrant and balanced Intellectual Property Rights system in India to foster creativity and innovation, thereby promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing social, economic and cultural development.
iii. WIPO’s TISC program provides innovators in developing countries with access to locally based, high quality technology information and related services, helping them to exploit their innovative potential and to create, protect, and manage their Intellectual Property Rights.

1. MEGHALAYA CM MUKUL SANGMA LAUNCHES LIFE PROGRAM AT SONGSAK
i. Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma has launched the ambitious flagship programme titled “Livelihood Intervention and Facilitation of Entrepreneurship” at Songsak in East Garo Hills.
ii. The project has been launched to the people of the state. In 2017-18, the programme aims to reach out to additional 2144 villages.
iii. On the launch of the programme, Sangma said that the programme of the state government is most inclusive unlike the central schemes, which are mostly meant for the “below poverty line”.
iv .He urged the people to form SHGs in their area and under LIFE different activities would be started to ensure that people are able to generate income and eradicate poverty.
v. LIFE will focus on capacity building, Under the programme every 10 SHGs will be motivated to act like a bank and help each other.

2. RECENT APPROVALS BY CENTRAL GOVERNMENT: JULY 12 2017
i. Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Palestine on cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine and cooperation in the field of Information Technology and Electronics.
ii. Cabinet approves Joint Declaration of Intent between India and Germany on cooperation in the field of Health. The Joint Interpretative Notes on the Agreement between India and Bangladesh would impart clarity to the interpretation of the existing Agreement between India and Bangladesh for the Promotion and Protection of Investments.
iii. Cabinet approves enhancement of the age of superannuation of Medical Officers of Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles. Cabinet apprised of MoU between India and Bangladesh for cyber security cooperation.
iv. Cabinet approves creation of three posts of Directors for the three new AIIMS in West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
v. Cabinet approves establishment of the International Rice Research Institute, South Asia Regional Center at campus of National Seed Research and Training Center in Varanasi.
