1.      FIRST INDIA-JAPAN WORKSHOP ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION INAUGURATED IN NEW DELHI
 Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, Dr. Rajiv Kumar inaugurated the First India-Japan Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi.
i. This workshop has been jointly organised by the National Disaster Management Authority Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Government of Japan.
ii. It is the first formal initiative under the Memorandum of Cooperation on Disaster Risk Reduction signed between India and Japan.
iii. Six-pronged approach to enhance resilience, which includes Risk Identification, Preparedness, Risk Reduction, Financial Protection, Resilient Reconstruction and Societal Awareness.

2.      PRESIDENT RAM NATH KOVIND INAUGURATED THE FESTIVAL OF INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (FINE) IN NEW DELHI
President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated a Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
i. Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is organised with the Department of Science and Technology and the National Innovation Foundation-India from 19th March 21st March 2018.
ii. FINE aims to recognise, display and reward innovations and to create a supportive ecosystem for innovators.
iv. It provides an “In-Residence” Program through which 10 innovation scholars will stay at Rashtrapati Bhavan and will receive mentoring and opportunities to share ideas with important stakeholders.

3.      CHINA APPOINTS YI GANG AS GOVERNOR OF PEOPLE’S BANK OF CHINA
Yi Gang, a US-educated economist has been named as next Governor of China’s central bank, the People’s Bank of China .
i. Yi Gang has been holding the post of deputy governor of PBOC since 2008
ii. Mr. Yi will succeed  Zhou Xiaochuan, who has been holding the post since 2002.

4.      VLADIMIR PUTIN WINS RUSSIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Russian President Vladimir Putin won the presidential elections and has been named as Russian President for a 6 year term

ii. He had obtained 76.6% of the total votes cast in the presidential election.
ii. Vladimir Putin had been ruling Russia as either president or prime minister since 1999.

5.      LI KEQIANG RE-ELECTED AS PRIME MINISTER OF CHINA FOR SECOND TERM
Li Keqiang was re-elected as Chinese Prime Minister for a second five-year term.

iii.He has been re-elected as Prime Minister by the members of National People’s Congress (NPC).

6.      AAMIR KHAN REPLACES RANVEER SINGH AS VIVO INDIA’S BRAND AMBASSADOR
Vivo announced the appointment of actor Aamir Khan as its brand ambassador for India.
i. Aamir Khan replaces actor Ranveer Singh as Vivo India’s Brand Ambassador.
ii.Ranveer Singh had been the brand ambassador for the past two years.

7.      UTTAR PRADESH CHIEF MINISTER YOGI ADITYANATH LAUNCHED AN ANTI-GRAFT PORTAL
CM Yogi Adityanath completed one year in office and on this occasion, UP CM Yogi Adityanath launched an anti-graft portal.
i. The portal is aimed at taking action against any official who is involved in corruption or is encouraging it at any level.
ii. Action will be taken based on a video or any other evidence uploaded through the portal.
iii. A cultural programme was held and a multi-colour booklet titled ‘Ek Saal – Nayee Misaal’ with the punchline ‘Huaa Vikaas – Badha Vishwaas’ was unveiled.

8.      INDIA GRABBED NIDAHAS TROPHY 2018
India won the Nidahas Trophy at the R Premadasa Stadium, in Colombo, Sri Lanka in the finals by four wickets.
ii.Dinesh Karthik was named Man of the Match.
iii. India won the toss and chose to field first. Indian team restricted Bangladesh team to 166 runs with eight wickets loss

1.      NITI AAYOG RELEASES SATH-E PROJECT
      NITI Aayog released comprehensive roadmaps and detailed timelines for ‘Sustainable Action for Transforming Human Capital in Education (SATH-E)’ project.
i. Blueprints for project  were released by Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog of the three participating States – Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
ii.Action-oriented programmes will be carried out at the individual, district and State level between 2018 to 2020 with an aim to become ‘Role Model States’ in school education.

1.      MINISTRY OF HEALTH LAUNCHES LAQSHYA PROGRAM TO BENEFIT PREGNANT WOMAN AND NEWBORN
Ministry of health launched ‘LaQshya’ program that aims to improve quality of care in  labour room, maternity Operation Theatre and Obstetrics Intensive Care Units  and High Dependency Units
ii. It will be implemented at all Medical College Hospitals, District Hospitals and First Referral Unit (FRU), and Community Health Center .
iii. This program will reduce maternal and newborn mortality count. It will offer Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) to all pregnant women in public health facilities.

1.      CABINET APPROVES AGREEMENT ON AVOIDANCE OF DOUBLE TAXATION AND FISCAL EVASION BETWEEN INDIA AND IRAN
The agreement deals with the matter of Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion between India and Iran.
Section 90 of the Income Tax Act, 1961 which authorises Indian Government to enter into an Agreement with a foreign country or specified territory for avoidance of double taxation of income.
This agreement will boost flow of investment, technology and personnel between both the countries.

1.      FRENCH PRESIDENT EMMANUEL MACRON’S INDIA VISIT
i. France is the 9th largest foreign investor in India with a cumulative investment of $6.09 billion as on October 2017.
ii.Indian and French companies and government entities signed deals worth 13 billion Euros across areas like aviation, renewable energy and waste management.
iv. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated Uttar Pradesh’s biggest solar power plant in Mirzapur district.

1.      INDIA’S TALLEST TRICOLOUR HOISTED IN BELAGAVI, KARNATAKA
i. India’s tallest tricolour hoisted in Belagavi, Karnataka flag hoisted in Belagavi is 110m high from the base  to the top while its size is 120X80 ft.
ii. The flag was hoisted by Belagavi District in-charge Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi.
iii.Earlier the tallest flag was of 107 metre  tricolour flag hoisted in Pune was the highest, followed by  105 metre tall tricolour at Attari-Wagah border.

2.      BENGAL TOPS IN RURAL JOB SCHEME, T.N. IS SECOND
i.According to data provided by the Minister of State for Rural Development,West Bengal is the best performing State in terms of allotting jobs and utilising funds under (MGNREGA).
ii. West Bengal is followed by Tamil Nadu and Goa ranked at the bottom.

3.      MULTILATERAL HADR AIR FORCE EXERCISE “SAMVEDNA” STARTED IN KERALA COAST
Multilateral Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Air Force exercise, ‘Samvedna’ started in the coast of Kerala.
i.  Samvedna means ‘Empathy’ and ’Samvedna’ is being conducted by Indian Air Force  in association with South Asian Region nations.
iii.It will  establish synergy among Air Forces of participating countries in jointly carrying out HADR activities in wake of natural calamities.
v. The exercise will be conducted to tackle the tsunamiu situation  hitting in the western coast of India.

4.      ASSAM FINANCE MINISTER HIMANTA BISWA SARMA PRESENTS STATE’S FIRST E-BUDGET
Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented state’s first e-Budget at the legislative Assembly.
i. Each legislator of Assam State Legislative Assembly was provided with a tablet having details of the Budget.
ii. During the discussions in the house, the legislators were able to access the details through this tablet.
iii. In order to truly make it an E-Budget, the reporters covering the state budget were given a pen drive containing the details.
iv.It is  also been made available on Google app

5.      WORLD OCEAN SUMMIT 2018 HELD IN MEXICO
i. This was the fifth World Ocean Summit.
 It was hosted by the Economist Group and it was attended by  360 leaders from government, industry, multilateral organisations, scientific community and civil society all over the world took part in the World Ocean Summit 2018.
iii. Problems related to the world’s seas and solutions to protect ocean resources were discussed in the summit.

6.      BOLIVIA UNFURLS ‘WORLD’S BIGGEST FLAG’
Bolivia unveiled world’s biggest flag which it claims to be the longest with 200 km  lenghth.
i. The flag extends between the cities La Paz and Oruro. It is made of blue cloth and features Bolivian national symbols. Its width is three meters.
iii. Bolivia demands access to the Pacific Ocean, which it lost to Chile in a war in the 19th century.
