1.      WORLD METEORLOGICAL DAY: 23 MARCH
 World Meteorological Day  is observed on march 23 commemorating the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization .
The day showcases the essential contribution of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to the safety and well-being of society.
The theme of World Meteorlogical Day in 2018 is “Weather-ready, climate-smart”.

2.      INTERNATIONAL TB DAY: 24 MARCH
World Tuberculosis Day observed on 24 March each year is designed to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis  and efforts to eliminate the disease.
In 2012, 8.6 million people fell ill with TB, and 1.3 million died from the disease, mostly in the Third World.
World TB Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization
The theme for the year `2018 is ‘Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world’.

  1. 'WORLD'S BEST AIRPORT' TITLE GOES TO CHANGI, MUMBAI RANKED 63RD
 Singapore's Changi Airport has topped in the list of 'world's best airport' for the sixth consecutive year.
South Korea's Incheon Airport, Tokyo Haneda in Japan, Hong Kong and Doha Hamad turned out to be the top five in the list respectiveley.
Mumbai airport has been ranked on  63rd position followed by the airports in Bangalore and Delhi are at 64th and 66th place respectively.

  1. JACKFRUIT DECLARED AS KERALA’S OFFICIAL FRUIT
The Kerala government has declared jackfruit as its official fruit.
The aim is to promote ‘Kerala jackfruit’ as a brand in markets across the country and abroad, showcasing its organic and nutritious qualities.

1.      PUNJAB TO IMPOSE PERMANENT BAN ON HOOKAH BARS
i.The Punjab Government is all set to impose a permanent ban on hookah bars across the State .
ii.Punjab will be the second State in the country, after Gujarat, to take this  significant decision.
iii.Gujarat has banned Hookah bars in the State by passing the COTPA Amendment Bill, 2017.

i. Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba is on a five-day visit to the USA.
ii.The visit aims to consolidate relations between the Armed Forces of both the nations and to explore new avenues of defence co-operation.
ii. During the visit, Admiral Lanba will hold bilateral discussions with US Defence Secretary James Mattis, Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer among others.

India’s National Cultural Audiovisual Archives  has been certified as the world’s first Trusted Digital Repository as per ISO.
i. NCAA. is A. project of the Union Ministry of Culture, implemented by IndirA. Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
ii.The main Objective of NCAA. is to identify and preserve India’s cultural heritage available in audiovisual form through A. process of digitization and making it accessible to the people.
iii. By end of March 2018, A. corpus of 30000 hours of unpublished, non-commercial audio & video recordings will be made online at NCAA. repository. 
iv. NCAA. digital repository is powered by DIGITÄ€LAYA. which is developed by C-DAC Pune.

1.      KUSUM SCHEME TO INSTALL GRID CONNECTED SOLAR PLANTS IN RURAL INDIA
R.K. Singh, Union Minister of State Power and New & Renewable Energy strated a scheme ‘Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan  scheme.
i. KUSUM scheme will provide installation of grid-connected solar power plants each of capacity up to 2 MW in the rural areas.
ii. It will also provide for solarization of existing grid-connected agriculture pumps to make farmers independent of grid supply.
iii. Under KUSUM, farmers will be able to sell surplus solar power generated to power distribution companies  and get extra income.

2.      7 TH WOMEN SCIENCE CONGRESS INAUGURATED AT IMPHAL
Governor of West Bengal, Keshari Nath Tripathi inaugurated the 7th Women Science Congress at the ongoing 105th session of Indian Science Congress in Imphal, Manipur.
i. First edition of Women Science Congress was held in 2012.
ii. Objective of Women Science Congress is to inspire young women to be a part of scientific community and engage themselves in active scientific research.

3.      SOUTH ASIA’S FIRST EVER COWORKING & COPLAY SPACE LAUNCHED IN GURUGRAM
Monkey Business, a first of its kind co-working space in South Asia that also provides onsite childcare was launched in Gurugram, Haryana.
i. Monkey Business, is ideal for young parents to work while their kids are engaged in productive activities at the onsite play area.

1.      FIRST INDIA-JAPAN WORKSHOP ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION INAUGURATED IN NEW DELHI
 Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, Dr. Rajiv Kumar inaugurated the First India-Japan Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi.
i. This workshop has been jointly organised by the National Disaster Management Authority Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Government of Japan.
ii. It is the first formal initiative under the Memorandum of Cooperation on Disaster Risk Reduction signed between India and Japan.
iii. Six-pronged approach to enhance resilience, which includes Risk Identification, Preparedness, Risk Reduction, Financial Protection, Resilient Reconstruction and Societal Awareness.

2.      PRESIDENT RAM NATH KOVIND INAUGURATED THE FESTIVAL OF INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (FINE) IN NEW DELHI
President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated a Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
i. Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is organised with the Department of Science and Technology and the National Innovation Foundation-India from 19th March 21st March 2018.
ii. FINE aims to recognise, display and reward innovations and to create a supportive ecosystem for innovators.
iv. It provides an “In-Residence” Program through which 10 innovation scholars will stay at Rashtrapati Bhavan and will receive mentoring and opportunities to share ideas with important stakeholders.

3.      CHINA APPOINTS YI GANG AS GOVERNOR OF PEOPLE’S BANK OF CHINA
Yi Gang, a US-educated economist has been named as next Governor of China’s central bank, the People’s Bank of China .
i. Yi Gang has been holding the post of deputy governor of PBOC since 2008
ii. Mr. Yi will succeed  Zhou Xiaochuan, who has been holding the post since 2002.

CM Yogi Adityanath completed one year in office and on this occasion, UP CM Yogi Adityanath launched an anti-graft portal.
i. The portal is aimed at taking action against any official who is involved in corruption or is encouraging it at any level.
ii. Action will be taken based on a video or any other evidence uploaded through the portal.
iii. A cultural programme was held and a multi-colour booklet titled ‘Ek Saal – Nayee Misaal’ with the punchline ‘Huaa Vikaas – Badha Vishwaas’ was unveiled.

1.      NITI AAYOG RELEASES SATH-E PROJECT
      NITI Aayog released comprehensive roadmaps and detailed timelines for ‘Sustainable Action for Transforming Human Capital in Education (SATH-E)’ project.
i. Blueprints for project  were released by Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog of the three participating States – Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
ii.Action-oriented programmes will be carried out at the individual, district and State level between 2018 to 2020 with an aim to become ‘Role Model States’ in school education.
