MANTRI GARIB KALYAN PACKAGE EXTENDED FOR
A PERIOD OF 180 DAYS
·
The Central Government
extended Pradhan Mantri GaribKalyan Package (PMGKP) for a further period of 180
days w.e.f. April 19, 2022.
·
Launched on March 30,
2020, it provides comprehensive personal accident cover of Rs 50 Lakh to 22.12
lakh health care providers including community health workers and private
health workers who have been in direct contact of COVID-19 patients and are at risk
of being impacted by this.

INDIA
TO GET WORLD’S HIGHEST TUNNEL AT SHINKU LA PASS
·
India is set to have
the world’s highest tunnel at Shinku La Pass, connecting Himachal Pradesh to
the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.
·
The tunnel is set to be
built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at an altitude of 16,580 feet
above sea level.
·
The tunnel is expected
to be operational for vehicles by 2025.
·
As of now, the highest
tunnels are located in China and Peru, both not exceeding 16000 feet above sea
level.

IMF
CUTS INDIA’S FY23 GROWTH FORECAST TO 8.2% FROM 9%
·
In its latest World
Economic Outlook (WEO) report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered
India’s growth forecast to 8.2% for the current financial year 2022–23 (FY23),
down from a previous estimate of 9% in January 2022.
·
India’s Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) is expected to drop to 6.9% in 2023-24 (FY24) from 7.1%(Predicted
by IMF in January 2022).
·
It also predicted that
India’s current account deficit in FY23 will be 3.1%, compared with 1.5% expected
for FY22.
·
The IMF’s projection of
India’s retail inflation is now at 6.1%, higher than the Reserve Bank of
India’s (RBI’s) forecast of 5.7%.
·
The
World Bank had previously lowered India’s GDP
forecast for FY23 to 8%.
·
Reserve
Bank of India (RBI) has slashed India’s
GDP forecast to 7.2% for FY23.
·
The Indian economy is
expected to increase between 8% – 8.5 %
in 2022-23, according to the Ministry of Finance.

IAF
TEST FIRES BRAHMOS SUPERSONIC MISSILE FROM SU30-MKI FIGHTER JET
·
The Indian Air Force
(IAF) has successfully test-fired a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a
Sukhoi-30 MkI (Su30-MkI) aircraft on the Eastern seaboard, demonstrating its
operational preparedness.
·
The Government of India
decided in 2016 to integrate the Brahmos’ air-launched variant onto
approximately 40 Sukhoi fighter jets.
·
BrahMos Aerospace, a
joint venture between India and Russia, manufactures supersonic cruise missiles
that can be fired from submarines, ships, planes, or land platforms.
·
The advanced version of
the missile’s range has been increased to around 350 km from the initial 290
km.

TO GET WORLD’S LARGEST ELECTRIC 3-WHEELER MAKING PLANT

Biliti Electric Inc
(Biliti), based in California, United States of America(USA), has announced its
intention to establish the world’s largest electric three-wheeler manufacturing
facility in Telangana.

At present, Biliti
operates through a manufacturing partnership with Hyderabad based Gayam Motor
Works(GMW) for manufacturing 3 wheelers

India
captain Rohit Sharma and Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah along with New Zealand
batter Devon Conway, England pacer Ollie Robinson and South African (Proteas)
women star Dane van Niekerk have been named as the five players in Wisden’s
‘Cricketers of the Year’ in the 2022 edition of the Almanack.

Ajay Kumar Sood (AK Sood) is appointed as the Principal Scientific Advisor
(PSA) to the Government of India(GoI) for a period of 3 years

Cabinet
Secretariat established the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor(PSA) to
the GoI in November 1999.
·
The
office of PSA coordinates with several Ministries and advises the government on
science and technology policies and interventions that are of strategic
socio-economic importance.

RUSSIA TESTS WORLD’S ‘MOST POWERFUL’ NUCLEAR-CAPABLE
BALLISTIC MISSILE

Russia
had test-launched a new nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile
namely ‘RS-28 Sarmat’ from Plesetsk in northwest Russia and hit targets in the
Kamchatka peninsula, nearly 6,000 km (3,700 miles) away.
·
It is also called ‘Satan 2’.
·
It is
the most powerful missile with the longest range of destruction of targets in
the world.
·
Sarmat
is a three-stage, liquid-fueled missile with a range of 18,000 km and a launch
weight of 208.1 metric tons, to be exact.

A
partnership of London (United Kingdom)-based Nexo with Mastercard, and DiPocket
launched the world’s first crypto-backed payment card namely ‘Nexo Card’ in
selected European countries.
·
The
card is linked to a Nexo-provided, crypto-backed credit line and can be used at
92 million merchants worldwide where Mastercard is accepted.
·
It
allows investors to spend up to 90% of the fiat value of their crypto assets.

RBI IMPOSES RS 17.63 LAKH PENALTY ON MANAPPURAM FINANCE

The
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 17.63 lakh on
Manappuram Finance Limited for non-compliance with certain provisions of the
Master Direction on Issuance and Operation of Prepaid Payment Instruments
(PPIs)
·
The
penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under Section 30
of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

INDIA’S RETAIL INFLATION SPIKES TO 6.95% IN MARCH 2022
·
The National Statistical Office (NSO) of the
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released two
key economic statistics, that revealed Retail inflation in India, as measured
by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), increased to 6.95% in March 2022.
·
Manufacturing
output of India, measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP),
witnessed a growth of 1.7% in February 2022.
·
Core
inflation, which excludes volatile food and fuel prices, increased to a
10-month high of 6.29% in March 2022, up from 5.96% in February 2022.
·
The
Wholesale Price Index (WPI), which measures wholesale price-based inflation,
reached a four-month high of 14.55% in March 2022.
·
CPI
measures price fluctuations from the standpoint of a retail customer.
·
IIP keeps
track of manufacturing activities across the economy.
·
WPI
tracks wholesale inflation, which is inflation at the producer level.

29TH CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF
·
Government
of India has appointed Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant (Lt) General Manoj
Chandrashekhar Pande as 29th Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
·
He
will succeed General Manoj Mukund Naravane on May 1, 2022.
·
The
Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Pande will be the first officer from the
Corps of Engineers to become the COAS.
·
The
tenure of Chief of Army Staff is 62 years of age or three years whichever is
earlier.
·
With
the appointment of Lieutenant General Manoj Pande as Indian Army Chief, all
three service chiefs of the Indian defence forces will be from the 61st batch
of the National Defense Academy (NDA)
·
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is still vacant
due to the untimely demise of the country’s first CDS Gen BipinRawat in a
chopper crash in December 2021.
