1.       EXPAT INSIDER 2022 RANKINGS: INDIA RANKS 36TH OUT OF 52 COUNTRIES

·         According to the Expat Insider 2022 Rankings published by Inter Nations headquartered at Germany, India is ranked 36th out of 52 nations on the list, with a high affordability score.

·         Mexico has topped the Expat Insider 2022 Rankings.  and Indonesia’s at Rank 2

·         Kuwait, ranked 52nd, is the worst country for expats.

·         A person who dwells outside of their nation of origin is known as an expatriate (shortly known as “expat”).

·         The USA is ranked 14, Canada 23 ,and China is at 33.

·         Taiwan, at Rank 3, is regarded as the best in terms of healthcare.

·         India, which came in at number 36, performed best in terms of affordability and access to healthcare.

·         India ranks low in the Quality of Life Index: India is at the bottom 10 spot for all subcategories except Health & Well-Being (19th).

·         The expats rated India as the worst country worldwide for air quality (52nd).

1.       GOI AMENDS FLAG CODE OF INDIA 2022 TO ALLOW TRI-COLOUR TO BE FLOWN DAY AND NIGHT

·         The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI), has amended the Flag Code of India 2002, to allow the tricolour to be displayed in open and on individual houses or buildings throughout the day and night.

·         Previously, the Flag could only be hoisted between sunrise and sunset.

·         The decision comes as the GoI sets to launch the “Har Ghar Tiranga” (Flag hoisting in every home) campaign from August 13-15, 2022, as part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

·         The Flag Code of India, 2002, and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, govern the display, hoisting, and use of the Indian National Flag.

1.       YOUTH IN INDIA 2022’ REPORT

·         The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released a report titled ‘Youth in India 2022’ stating that the population share of the youth has started declining as the share of the elderly is expected to steadily surge during 2021-2036.

·         As per National Youth Policy, 2014, Youth is defined as a person in the age group of 15-29 years.

·         Proportion of youth to the total population had increased from 26.6% in 1991 to 27.9% in 2016 and then projected to start a downward trend and to reach 22.7% by year 2036 i.e. in the latter half of 2011-2036 period.

·         On the contrary, the proportion of elderly population to the total population has increased from 6.8% in 1991 to 9.2% in 2016 and is projected to reach 14.9% in 2036.

·         Bihar and Uttar Pradesh (UP), which experienced a rise in proportion of youth population to total population till 2021, are expected to see a decline from hereon

·         Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh are projected to see a higher elderly population than the youth by 2036.

·         The total youth population increased from 222.7 million in 1991 to 333.4 million in 2011 and was projected to reach 371.4 million by 2021 and, thereafter, decrease to 345.5 million by 2036,

·         As per the 2022 edition of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Population Division(UNDESA)’s World Population Prospects (WPP), India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country in 2023.

·         The share of the global population aged 65 years or above is projected to rise from 10% in 2022 to 16% in 2050.

 

2.       MADHYA PRADESH’S BURHANPUR BECOMES INDIA’S FIRST ‘HARGHARJAL’ CERTIFIED DISTRICT

·         Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh (MP) became India’s first ‘HarGharJal’ certified district, with all the 254 villages in the district having access to safe drinking water under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) .

·         Burhanpur, also known as the ‘Darwaza of Dakhin’ or ‘Gateway of Deccan’.

·         As of now, three States – Goa, Telangana and Haryana and three UTs – Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadar and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, and Puducherry have provided 100% tap water coverage.

·         Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) was launched in 2019 under the Jal Shakti Ministry.

·         It envisages supply of safe drinking water to every rural household through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) by 2024.

·         Goa became the first state to reach the target.

1.       NITI AAYOG INDIA INNOVATION INDEX 2021

·         Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), released the third edition of the India Innovation Index 2021 at NITI Bhawan in New Delhi, Delhi.

·         The third edition of the index enhances the scope of innovation analysis in India by leveraging the framework of the Global Innovation Index (GII), which is released by WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) on a yearly basis.

·         Karnataka topped the India Innovation Index 2021 and also held its top spot in the India Innovation Index in the ‘Major States’ category for the third year in a row.

·         It is followed by Telangana and Haryana.

·         In the North-Eastern and hilly states, Manipur has emerged as the best performer, followed by Meghalaya and Uttarakhand.

1.       BRICS 8TH LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT MINISTERS’ MEETING 2022

·         Union Minister BhupenderYadav, Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), virtually attended the 8th BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting 2022 held under the Chinese Presidency in Beijing, China.

·         The Labour and Employment Ministers (LEMM) of the member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) participated in the meeting.

·         The Code on Social Security, 2020, is one of the legislative initiatives emphasized, as it defines new types of workers, such as gig and platform workers, and the steps taken to offer social security benefits to such workers.

1.       INDIA’S 1ST AI-POWERED LOK ADALAT FOR FAST DISPOSAL OF CASES

·         India’s first AI (Artificial Intelligence)-powered digital LokAdalat by the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) was launched during the 18th All India Meet of State Legal Services Authorities (SLSA) held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

·         It was launched by the Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Uday Umesh Lalit.

·         Recently, a district court in Bihar gave a verdict in a land dispute case after 108 years, making it one of the oldest pending cases in India.

·         As per NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog report, it would take approximately 324 years to dispose all cases pending in India where 75-97% of legal problems never reach the courts.

·         The Digital LokAdalat will be used to dispose of pending disputes or disputes that are at the pre-litigation stage.

1.       7TH EDITION OF NATIONAL INSTITUTIONAL RANKING FRAMEWORK (NIRF) RANKINGS 2022.

·         The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is provided by Ministry of Human resource development.

·         Ministry has launched the NIRF on September 29, 2015.

·         It provides a methodology for providing rank to institutions across India in different categories.

·         In year 2022, rankings were announced in 11 categories viz., Engineering, Colleges, Universities, Management, Overall, Medical, Law, Architecture, Research, Dental, and Pharmacy.

·         In Engineering institutes category, IIT Madras has been ranked at first position.

·         In Medical college category, AIIMS New Delhi has been ranked as best.

·         Savitha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai was ranked best in dental college category.

·         Miranda House was tagged as best college, followed by Hindu college and Presidency college.

·         IIM Ahmedabad was ranked as best B-school in India, in management category

·         Overall Category-Indian Institute of Technology Madras

·         Pharmacy Colleges Jamia Hamdard

·         University: IISc, Bengaluru tops the category.

·         Research Institution: IISc, Bengaluru is ranked the best research institution followed by IIT Madras.

·         Architecture: IIT Roorkee takes the top slot for the second time in Architecture subject.

·         Law: National Law School of India University, Bengaluru retains its first position in Law for the fifth consecutive year.

 

2.       INDIA’S FIRST-EVER UNDERWATER METRO TRAIN TO BE SET UP IN KOLKATA

·         In early 2023, India will get its first-ever underwater train with Kolkata’s futuristic metro covering a distance of 16.34 km east-west corridor that ends under the river Hooghly.

·         Out of 16.34 Km length, 10. 8km is underground and 520-metre will be the underwater tunnel.

·         This initiative is India’s version of Eurostar train that travels between London and Paris.

·         The underwater rail will connect Howrah to BBD Bagh (Dalhousie Square) in Kolkata.

 

3.       PM NARENDRA MODI INAUGURATES 296 KM LONG BUNDELKHAND EXPRESSWAY IN UP

·         Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi  inaugurated the 296 km long Bundelkhand Expressway at Kaitheri village in Orai tehsil of Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

·         It  passes through seven districts of UP and was constructed at a cost of around Rs 14,850 crore.

·         It was  developed by UPEIDA (Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority).

 

4.       VARANASI DESIGNATED FIRST ‘CULTURAL AND TOURISM CAPITAL’ OF SCO FOR 2022-23

·         Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh (UP), has been named the first “Cultural & Tourism Capital of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)” under a new rotating initiative to promote people-to-people contacts and tourism among the member states.

·         In accordance with a new rotating initiative, the title will be awarded during India’s SCO Presidency from September 2022 to September 2023.

·         The SCO Secretariat, headed by Secretary-General, Zhang Ming of China, announced this at a press conference in Beijing, China.

·         The SCO is an intergovernmental organization founded in Shanghai, China, on 15 June 2001. Its Secretariat, based in Beijing, China, is the main permanent executive body of the SCO.

·         The SCO currently comprises eight Member States: China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

·         India will take over as SCO chair from Uzbekistan at the Samarkand Summit 2022, which will be held in Uzbekistan on September 15-16, 2022.

·         Later, Samarkand will be transformed into “SCO Park.”

 

5.       DBS NAMED ‘WORLD’S BEST SME BANK 2022’ BY EUROMONEY

·         DBS Bank was recognised as the ‘World’s Best SME Bank’ by Euromoney for the second time (the first time in 2018).

·         Euromoney magazine has named Bank of America the World’s Best Bank for 2022.

·         Goldman Sachs has been named the World’s best investment bank 2022.

1.       INDIA RANKS 135 OUT OF 146 IN GLOBAL GENDER GAP INDEX

·         The World Economic Forum (WEF) released the Global Gender Gap Index for 2022, under Global Gender Report 2022, in which India ranks low at 135th place among a total of 146 countries.

·         However, India has scored 0.629, on a scale of 0 to 1, which is its 7th highest score in the last 16 years.

·         Iceland has topped the list becoming the most gender equal country for the 12th time in a row, by closing more than 90.8% of its gender gap.

1.       10TH WORLD PEACE FORUM ORGANIZED IN BEIJING

·         The Tenth edition of the World Peace Forum 2022 was organised by Tsinghua University, in Beijing, China under the theme“Preserving International Stability: Commonality, Comprehensiveness and Cooperation”.

·         India’s ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat was also a participant in the Forum.

 

2.       AMITABH KANT BECOMES INDIA’S NEW G20 SHERPA

·         The former National Institute for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant is appointed as India’s new Sherpa for the Group of Twenty (G20) by replacing PiyushGoyal, a Union minister of commerce and Industry.

·         India assumes the presidency from 1st December 2022 and the appointment of Amitabh Kant will also be effective from the same date and lasts till 30th November 2023.

·         Current president of G20 is Indonesia.

·         Amitabh Kant will now be the personal representative for Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi at the G20 summit and will also be responsible for pre-summit meetings and negotiations.

·         India has been a member of the G20 since 1999 and for the first time India will host the G20 leaders summit in 2023.

·         Members of G20 – Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Spain is also invited as a permanent guest.

 

3.       BORIS JOHNSON RESIGNED AS UK PRIME MINISTER 

·         United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister (PM), Boris Johnson  announced his resignation as Prime Minister of UK after he was abandoned by ministers and own party’s lawmakers.

·         He also step down from Conservative Party leader.

·         However he would serve as the PM until his successor was elected. 

 

4.       CROATIA TO BECOME 20TH COUNTRY TO ADOPT EURO AS CURRENCY

·         Croatia will become the 20th member of the eurozone to adopt Euro currency from 1 January 2023, replacing the current currency Croatian Kuna.

·         Croatia’s currency Kuna has comparatively low inflation and low-interest rates, a stable currency regime.

·         In 2015, Lithuania joined the European single-currency regime.

·         In 135th edition Novak Djokovic (Serbia) won 2022 men’s Singles title against Nick Kyrgios (Australia)

·         Wimbledon usually takes place in Grass Outdoor Courts and every player must follow the dress-code of Whites.

·         Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) won 2022 women’s singles final Wimbledon. She defeated OnsJabeur (Tunisia).

·         Nadal stands 1st with 22 Grand Slams, Djokovic Stands 2nd with 21 Grand Slams and Roger Federer stands 3rd with 20 Grand Slams.
