1.      INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY: 21 JUNE
i. The 4th International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the globe on 21st of June.
ii. The theme for Yoga Day 2018 is "Yoga for Peace".
ii. In 2015, United Nations General Assembly unanimously announced 21st June as the International day for yoga to raise awareness about the benefits of practising yoga.

2.      VISHWAS MANDALIK AND YOGA INSTITUTE IN MUMBAI RECIPIENTS OF PM AWARD
i. Vishwas Mandalik from Nasik and the Yoga Institute in Mumbai have been selected as recipients of the Prime Minister’s award for outstanding contribution for promotion and development of yoga for the year 2018.
ii. Vishwas Mandalik acquired knowledge of Patanjali and Hatha Yoga, Bhagwad Gita and Upanishad by study and research of ancient scriptures. In 1978, he set up the first branch of Yoga Vidya Dham.
iii. The Yoga Institute, established in 1918 by Yogendraji, completed its 100 years serving the society. The winners would be felicitated with a trophy, certificate and a cash award of 25 lakh rupees each.

3.      4 MOUS SIGNED UNDER ‘ADOPT A HERITAGE’ SCHEME
i. Four MoUs have been signed under ‘Adopt a Heritage’ scheme and six more are at an advanced stage, according to Mr Raghvendra Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Culture.
1. Mount Stok Kangri Trek Route, Ladakh: The MoU for adoption was signed between Ministry of Tourism, Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) and the state government of Jammu & Kashmir.
2. Gangotri Temple Area & Trail to Gaumukh, Uttarakhand: The MoU was signed between Ministry of Tourism, ATOAI and Uttarakhand Government.
3. Red Fort, Delhi: The MoU was signed between Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, ASI and Dalmia Bharat Limited.
4. Gandikota Fort, Andhra Pradesh:  The MoU was signed between Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, ASI and Dalmia Bharat Limited.

1.      INTERNATIONAL DECADE FOR ACTION: WATER FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT 2018-2028
i. Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Shri Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit Republic of Tajikistan to represent India in the high-level Conference on “International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” on 20-21 June 2018.
ii. United Nations and Government of Republic of Tajikistan are jointly organizing the Conference to discuss key water related issues of sustainable development goals adopted by UN member countries.

2.      7TH OPEC INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR
i. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will host the 7th OPEC International Seminar at the Imperial Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria, on 20−21 June 2018.
ii. The theme of the Seminar is ‘Petroleum – cooperation for a sustainable future’.
iii. Seminar participants customarily include Ministers from OPEC Member Countries and other oil-producing and oil-consuming nations, as well as heads of intergovernmental organizations.

3.      UNION HRD MINISTER DEDICATES THE NATIONAL DIGITAL LIBRARY OF INDIA TO THE NATION
i. The Union Human Resource Development Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar launched the new digital initiative of HRD Ministry ‘National Digital Library of India’ on the occasion of National Reading Day in New Delhi.
ii. The objective of NDL is to make digital educational resources available to all citizens of the country to empower, inspire and encourage learning. National Digital Library of India is developed by IIT Kharagpur.
iii. It is a digital repository containing textbooks, articles, videos, audio books, lectures, simulations, fiction and all other kinds of learning media.

1.      US LEAVES THE UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
i. US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have announced the US was withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council.
ii. They claimed the council was a roadblock to genuine global human rights protection.

2.      WORLD REFUGEE DAY: 20 JUNE
i. World Refugee Day is observed every year by the people on 20th June in order to raise the public awareness about refugee’s situations throughout the world.
ii. World Refugee Day was declared on 20th of June by the United Nations General Assembly in the Resolution 55/76 on 4th of December in 2000.
iii. The Theme of World Refugee Day 2018 is: “Now more than ever, we need to stand #WithRefugees”

3.      PUNJAB GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED MOBILE APP- ‘I-HARIYALI’
i. To increase the state’s green cover, the Punjab government has launched ‘i-Hariyali’ app that lets users order free plant saplings.
ii. The ‘i-Hariyali’ app under ‘Mission Tandarust’ can be downloaded from the app store for free.
iii. The users can book a sapling of their choice, a maximum of 25 per person, from a nearby government nursery.

4.      PM MODI INAUGURATES NATURE CENTER IN NEW YORK VIA VIDEO LINK
i. On the occasion of 4th International Day of Yoga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a nature center.
ii. PM Modi inaugurated the 'YO1 Nature Cure Center' in the Catskills area of New York through a video link.

5.      SUNIL MITTAL BECOMES HONORARY CHAIRMAN OF ICC
i. Sunil Bharti Mittal, the Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, will step down as the Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce  on June 21.
ii. He will be succeeded by Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, as ICC Chairman.
iii. He will now function as the Honorary Chairman of the ICC commencing July 1.
iv. Ajay Banga, the President and CEO of MasterCard will be appointed as the ICC First Vice-Chair.

6.      ANUKREETHY VAS FROM TAMIL NADU CROWNED FEMINA MISS INDIA 2018
i. Anukreethy Vas, a 19-year-old Tamil Nadu college student, has been crowned Femina Miss India 2018 in a grand ceremony in Mumbai.
ii. Anukreethy Vas, who was previously crowned fbb Colours Femina Miss Tamil Nadu, beat 30 contestants to bag the top honour.
iii. Meenakshi Chaudhary from Haryana was the first runner-up while Shreya Rao Kamavarapu from Andhra Pradesh secured the second runner-up position.

1.      WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY: 15 JUNE
i. The 15th of June every year marks the United Nations internationally recognised day – World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
ii. The day came about as a result of UN resolution 66/127.The day aims to focus global attention on the problem of physical, emotional, and financial abuse of elders.
iii. The theme for 2018 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is “Moving from Awareness to Action through a Human Rights based approach”.

2.       WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT: JUNE 17
i. The World Day to Combat Desertification is being celebrated worldwide on 17th June.
ii. World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification.
iii. Theme of WDCD 2018 is “Land has true value – invest in “.

3.      FOURTH GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING OF NITI AAYOG CONCLUDES
i. The fourth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog was held under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
ii. It was attended by 23 Chief Ministers and the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, apart from Union Ministers, who are ex-officio members and special invitees.
iii. At the end of the day-long deliberations, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog as a platform to inspire cooperative federalism.

1.      INDIA’S 1ST NATIONAL POLICE MUSEUM TO COME UP IN DELHI
i. The Union Government has announced to establish India’s first national police museum in Lutyens' Delhi. The museum is expected to be inaugurated on 21st October 2018 on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.
ii. The unique museum, depicting the history, artefacts, uniforms and gear of central and state police forces, will come up as an underground facility in the premises of the national police memorial in Chanakyapuri area.

2.      SEBI CONSTITUTES EXPERT COMMITTEE TO FRAME RULES FOR DIRECT LISTING OF INDIAN FIRMS ABROAD
i. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) constituted an Expert Committee to frame rules for direct listing of Indian firms abroad.
ii. The committee will examine the economic case for permitting direct listing of Indian companies overseas and listing of Indian companies on foreign bourses in India. The committee includes nine members.

3.      INDIA TO HOST 1ST BIMSTEC MILITARY EXERCISE
i. India will host first military exercise of the BIMSTEC Countries in September 2018 in Pune, Maharashtra. The theme of the exercise includes counter-terrorism in semi-urban terrain and cordon and search.
ii. The main aim of this military exercise is to promote strategic alignment among the member-states and to share best practices in the area of counter-terrorism. Each participating member country will bring in some 30 soldiers.
iii. BIMSTEC countries had held disaster management exercise in 2017 in New Delhi, but this will be the first military exercise of the grouping.
BIMSTEC stands for Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.
Member countries: India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka from South Asia and Myanmar, Thailand from South East Asia.

1.      PRESIDENT RAM NATH KOVIND TO LAUNCH SOLAR CHARKHA MISSION
i. President Ram Nath Kovind will launch Solar Charkha Mission which will entail a subsidy of 550 crore rupees in the initial two years for 50 clusters. According to the Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh, the scheme is aimed at linking five crore women and self-help groups to the initiative.
ii. 15 new technology centres will be set up and out of these, ten will be made operational this year. These centres will provide technological support to small industries.

2.      INDIA, US AGREE TO HOLD COMPREHENSIVE TALKS TO ADDRESS TRADE & ECONOMIC ISSUES
i. India and the US have agreed to hold comprehensive talks to address trade and economic issues.
ii. The decision in this regard was taken during a series of meetings, Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu had with US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer. Mr Suresh Prabhu was on a two-day visit to the US.

3.      INFLATION RISES TO 14-MONTH HIGH OF 4.43% IN MAY
i. Inflation based on wholesale prices shot up to a 14-month high of 4.43% in May on increasing prices of petrol and diesel as well as vegetables. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation stood at 3.18%in April and 2.26% in May 2017.
ii. According to government data released, inflation in food articles was at 1.60% in May 2018, as against 0.87% in the preceding month. Inflation in vegetables climbed to 2.51% in May. Inflation in ‘fuel and power’ basket rose sharply to 11.22% in May from 7.85% in April as prices of domestic fuel increased in line with rising global crude oil rates.

1.      PRESIDENT DECLARES QUEEN PINEAPPLE AS TRIPURA'S 'STATE FRUIT'
i. President Ram Nath Kovind has declared Tripura's queen variety pineapple as state fruit and its export was a major step in connecting the state with world trade.
ii. The state holds good potential in world trade. Export of the pineapple to foreign countries is a major step in connecting with world trade. Tripura exported its first consignment of one-tonne pineapples to Dubai earlier this month.

2.      RBI TO SET UP PUBLIC CREDIT REGISTRY TO CURB BAD LOANS
i. In a bid to check loan defaults, RBI stated that a Public Credit Registry (PCR) will be set up containing information on all borrowers to ensure financial stability.
ii. Following a report by Yeshwant M Deosthalee headed High-Level Task Force, RBI stated it has considered the recommendations and decided to set up a PCR in a modular and phased manner.

3.      OPERATION NISTAR: INDIAN NAVY BRINGS BACK 38 INDIANS FROM CYCLONE-HIT SOCOTRA ISLAND IN YEMEN
i. In a swift operation, the Indian Navy has rescued 38 Indians from Socotra island in Yemen where they were stranded for nearly 10 days after a severe cyclonic storm hit the area.
ii. The Navy had diverted its ship INS Sunayna from the Gulf of Aden to Socotra as part of the operation ‘NISTAR’ to rescue the Indians.

1.      CENTRE LAUNCHES 'RAIL MADAD', 'MENU ON RAILS' MOBILE APPS
i. The Ministry of Railways has launched two mobile applications to ease the traveling experience. The two apps, 'Rail MADAD' and 'Menu on Rails', were launched by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State (MoS) Manoj Sinha during a press conference organized to highlight the achievements of the Ministry in the last four years.
ii. While Rail MADAD will enable travelers to lodge complaints, Menu on Rails will facilitate seamless ordering of food. The Minister stated Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh has been created with a corpus of one lakh crore rupees for making additional funds available for safety-related works.

2.      INDIA BEAT KENYA TO LIFT INTERCONTINENTAL CUP FOOTBALL TITLE
i. India has lifted the Intercontinental Cup football title. In the summit clash in Mumbai, they defeated Kenya 2-nil. Both the goals were netted by skipper Sunil Chhetri. He gave India the lead in the eighth minute before scoring the second goal in the 29th minute.
ii. Sunil Chhetri has become the joint second highest international goal scorer among active players along with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi with his 64th strike for the country against Kenya.

3.      NORTHERN RAILWAYS TO MONITOR CLEANLINESS OF TRAINS USING WHATSAPP GROUPS
i. The Northern Railways will now monitor the cleanliness of its trains using WhatsApp groups supervised by senior officials. Every department, be it the pantry, bedrolls etc., will have separate WhatsApp groups, in which status report of cleanliness will be uploaded on a daily basis.
ii. WhatsApp groups have been created for train and pantry cleanliness, bedrolls and functionality of air conditioners in trains. Photographs are being uploaded in these groups for monitoring by senior officials.

1.      PUNJAB GOVT LAUNCHES BUSINESS FIRST PORTAL
  i. In a major step to give a big push towards the ease of doing business in Punjab, the state government has launched a "Business First Portal". It was unveiled by Industry Minister Sunder Sham Arora in Jalandhar.
ii. The online portal will facilitate the industrialists for Regulatory Clearances and Fiscal Approvals, real-time tracking of applications at the common platform.

2.      PRESIDENT DISTRIBUTES LPG CONNECTIONS TO 20 BENEFICIARIES UNDER PMUY IN AGARTALA
i. President Ram Nath Kovind has distributed LPG connections to 20 beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana at Raj Bhavan in Agartala, Tripura.
ii. During his two-day visit to Tripura, the President inaugurated 73 km long National Highway connecting Udaipur town in Gomati district and Sabroom in South Tripura. He also laid the foundation stone for the re-development of Matabari Temple Complex at Tripura Sundari temple.

3.      RBI AMENDS GOLD MONETISATION SCHEME TO MAKE IT MORE ATTRACTIVE
i. RBI has made changes in the Gold Monetisation Scheme (GMS) to make it more attractive. The revamping of the scheme is aimed at enabling people to open a hassle-free gold deposit account.
ii. The short-term deposits should be treated as bank's on-balance sheet liability. These deposits will be made with the designated banks for a short period of 1-3 years (with a facility of rollover). Deposits can also be allowed for broken periods (e.g. 1 year 3 months; 2 years 4 months 5 days; etc.).

1.      BRICS AND IBSA MINISTERIAL MEETINGS IN SOUTH AFRICA
i. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj attend BRICS meeting of foreign ministers and
   meeting of IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa)
ii. This would commemorate the 125th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s journey against racial discrimination .

2.      INDIAN SHIPS IN GUAM,USA TO PARTICIPATE IN EX-MALABAR 2018
i. Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri, Shakti and Kamortawill take part in the 22nd edition of ii. Exercise Malabar, off Guam, United States.
ii. Exercise Malabar was started in 1992 as a bilateral exercise between the US Navy and the Indian Navy.
iii. From 2007, Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) also takes part in this exercise.

3.      RBI AMENDS GOLD MONETISATION SCHEME
i. The scheme was first launched by the government in 2015 to mobilise the idle gold of the  household or institutions to the banks as deposits for a fixed period of time .
ii. The interest rate varied from 2.25% to 2.5%.
iii. In the latest amendment , RBI allowed the customers to deposit the gold in a broken time period where the short term period of 1-3 years can be broken to 1 year 3 months , 2 years 3 months 15 days etc.
