1. UNION GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PRADHAN MANTRI UJJWALA YOJANA
i. The Union Government launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for providing free of cost LPG connections to women from BPL Households.
ii. It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Maldepur Morh, Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.
iii. The tagline for the scheme is Swachh Indhan, Behtar Jeevan.
iv. The beneficiaries will receive monetary support of about 1,600 rupees to get a connection of cooking gas

2. INDIAN TEAM WIN ONE SILVER AND TWO BRONZE IN ARCHERY WORLD CUP
i. Indian women’s team has won silver medal in the recurve team final of Archery World Cup held at the Yuanshen Stadium in Shanghai, China.
ii. Women’s team included Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi Laishram and Laxmirani Majhi.
iii. Indian men’s recurve team comprised of Atanu Das, Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia to bag the bronze medal.

3. MAHARASHTRA GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES ADI PRAMAN APP FOR CASTE VALIDITY CERTIFICATE
i. Maharashtra Government has launched Adi Praman a web based application for state’s tribal population to get the caste validity certificates online.
ii. The application is first of its kind for any state in India.
iii. Adi Praman app will help  tribal people from the state to obtain caste validity certificates online using this application.
iv. It will also help the state government to achieve the goal of the Digital India programme.

4. NABARD PARTNERS GERMANY FOR FOOD SECURITY INITIATIVE
i. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development entered into collaboration with German government for a special programme on 'Soil Protection and Rehabilitation for Food Security'.
ii. The programme is part of the German government's recently introduced special initiative 'One World, No Hunger' initiative.
iii. India is the only country in Asia chosen for this initiative.
iv. Germany’s 'One World, No Hunger' addresses areas such as food and nutrition security, promotion of innovation, protection and sustainable use of natural resources in rural areas.

5. INDIAN NAVY DECOMMISSIONED INS VEER AND INS NIPAT
i. Indian Navy decommissioned Indian Naval Ships  Veer and Nipat in the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.
ii. INS Veer was commissioned into Indian Navy on 26 March 1987.
iii. INS Nipat was brought into Navy on 5 December 1988
iv. Both the ships served as the guardians of International Maritime Border off west coast of India

6. SOUTH INDIA’S FIRST UNDERGROUND CORRIDOR OF NAMMA METRO INAUGURATED
i. Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the underground corridor of Bengalore Metro Rail.
ii. Bengalore Metro Rail is also known as Namma Metro.
iii. The Namma Metro or Bengaluru Metro as the first in South India to have an operational underground section of Metro Rail.

1. NAGALAND’S CAPITAL KOHIMA DECLARED ‘SMOKE-FREE CITY’
i. Kohima capital of Nagaland has been declared as a ‘smoke-free city’.

2. SIDBI INKS MOU WITH SAARC DEVELOPMENT FUND
i. Small Industries Development Bank of India and Saarc Development Fund  has signed a Memorandum of Understanding  for mutual cooperation and collaboration.
ii. SDF and SIDBI to work together in co-funding of projects in Indian MSMEs Micro Small and Medium Enterprises.
iii. It will call for technology transfer and making available new technologies and software to MFIs regarding loan tracking systems

3. ABHINAV BINDRA JOINS SALMAN KHAN AS INDIA'S GOODWILL AMBASSADOR FOR RIO OLYMPICS
i. Beijing Olympics gold medalist and ace shooter Abhinav Bindra become India's Goodwill Ambassador for the Rio Olympics.
ii. The India Olympic Association had stirred up a controversy last Sunday when they named Salman Khan as a Goodwill Ambassador.
iii. Many sports personalities had slammed the move and questioned the timing of the appointment as Salman's movie 'Sultan', based on wrestling is due for release soon.

4. NITI AAYOG LAUNCHED URBAN MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME FOR CAPACITY BUILDING OF STATES AND URBAN LOCAL BODIES
i. NITI Aayog ‘s Vice Chairman Dr Arvind Panagariya has launched the Urban Management Programme in New Delhi.
ii. The Programme is designed by NITI Aayog and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise .
iii. The expertise of Singapore will be used in urban sector to build capacities in State Governments and Urban Local bodies to design efficient solutions to urban problems.
iv. The main objective is to improve governance In India.

5. ISRO’S SEVENTH NAVIGATIONAL SATELLITE IRNSS 1G LAUNCHED
i. Indian Space Research Organization  has launched India’s seventh navigation satellite of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System 1G.
ii. The satellite was launched from the First Launch Pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
iii. Now India successfully joined the elite group of countries that have their own navigation system technology to cater navigational needs.

6. GARIMA WON GOLD AT COMMONWEALTH JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP
i. Garima Chaudhary has won gold medal at the 2016 Commonwealth Judo Championship finals  in South Africa.
ii. She has clinched the gold in 63kg junior category.

7. 1ST MAY OBSERVED AS INTERNATIONAL WORKERS DAY
i. Every year 1st May is being observed as International Workers Day.
ii. The day is observed to pay tribute to workers’ sacrifices in achieving economic and social rights all over the world.

1. CHINA DEVELOPS WORLD’S FIRST GRAPHENE ELECTRONIC PAPER
i. Chinese researchers have developed world’s first graphene electronic paper.
ii. Graphene e-paper is more pliable and has more intensity as compared to traditional e-papers.
iii. Mass production cost is much lower compared to traditional e-papers
iv. Graphene is the world’s strongest and lightest known material derived from carbon.
v. Its single layer is of 0.335 nanometers thickness.

2. GUJARAT GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED 10 PERCENT RESERVATION FOR EBCS IN GENERAL CATEGORY
i. Gujarat government announced 10 percent reservation for economically backward classes in general category.
ii. EBCs in the upper castes with a family income cap of 6 lakh rupees
iii. The BJP government has been facing violent protests from the Patel community seeking reservation in education and government jobs under the OBC category.

3. IRAQ THOMAS MADE FASTEST EVER CENTURY IN CRICKET HISTORY
i. Tobago batsman Iraq Thomas created a record by scoring 21-ball century in the Tobago Cricket Association’s T20 tournament at Louis D'or.
ii. The 23-year-old Thomas remained not out on 131 rums off just 31 balls.
iii. He slammed 15 sixes and five boundaries during his batting.

4. FORMER BUREAUCRAT NK SINGH SELECTED FOR JAPAN’S HIGHEST CIVILIAN AWARD
i. Former bureaucrat Nand Kishore Singh has been selected for prestigious ‘Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver’, Japan’s highest civilian award.
ii. He was chosen for this award for promoting economic, educational and cultural ties between India and Japan.
iii. Order of the Rising Sun is a Japanese Government highest civilian established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji.

5. DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ALL VICTIMS OF CHEMICAL WARFARE 2016 OBSERVED ON 29TH APRIL
i. The Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare 2016 was observed on 29 April the United Nations.
ii. It is observed to pay tribute to the victims of chemical warfare and the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to the elimination of the threat of chemical weapons.

6. SENIOR IPS OFFICER SURENDER KUMAR BHAGAT APPOINTED AS DG OF RAILWAYS PROTECTION FORCE
i. Senior IPS officer Surender Kumar Bhagat was appointed as the Director General  of Railways Protection Force .
ii. He is presently working as Special Director General in Central Reserve Police Force at Western Sector, Jammu & Kashmir.

7. WADA RELEASED 2014 ANTI-DOPING RULE VIOLATIONS REPORT INDIA RANKED THIRD
i. The World Anti-Doping Agency released Anti-Doping Rule Violations  Report.
ii. The report represents the global doping statistics in sport for 2014.

1. INDIA EXTENDED 1 BILLION DOLLAR LINE OF CREDIT TO MONGOLIA
i. India extended a Line of Credit of 1 billion US dollars to Mongolia.
ii. The LoC is the part of announcement made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Mongolia in May 2015.
iii. The fund will be used for economic expansion and infrastructure development.

2. DBS BANK LAUNCHES 'MOBILE-ONLY BANK' IN INDIA.
i. The Singapore's largest bank, DBS has unveiled the 'mobile only bank’ in India.
ii. The ‘digibank’ uses technologies, such as bio metrics & artificial intelligence, signature less and branch less bank.
iii. This is the India's 1st mobile only bank which targeting 5 million retail customers.
 iv. The bank will leverage bio metrics-enabled ID and Aadhaar card to ensure that that there is no paperwork.

3. SUDARSAN PATTNAIK GRABBED GOLD MEDAL AT SCULPTURE CHAMPIONSHIP IN MOSCOW
i. Famous artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has won the gold medal at Moscow Sand Sculpture Championship in Russia.
ii. The award is given for his 15 feet high art work Mahatma Gandhi's sculpture for non-violence and peace.

4. INDIAN ACADEMICIAN RADHA KUMAR APPOINTED TO UNITED NATIONS' UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
i. Indian academician Radha Kumar was appointed to the United Nations' University Council.
ii. He is appointed to formulate its principles and policies, consider and approve  work programme.
iii. Radha Kumar is the Director General of New Delhi-based think tank Delhi Policy Group.
iv. She is known for peacemaking and peace-building policies.
v. The main function of the UN University Council is to formulate the principles and policies of the University and govern its operations.

5. EC LAUNCHES MOBILE APP E-VOTER FOR KERALA ASSEMBLY POLLS
i. The Election Commission of India has launched an innovative mobile application known as e-voter.
ii. It is started to provide details about the forthcoming 2016 Assembly polls in Kerala.
iii. The app will provide information regarding candidates, location of polling station, affidavit filed by them, filing of complaint and so on.
iv. It aims at ensuring great transparency and conduct of free and fair elections.

6. PM NARENDRA MODI TO ADDRESS US CONGRESS ON JUNE 8
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to address a joint meeting of the United States Congress on June 8, 2016.
ii. He was invited by President Barack Obama for a bilateral visit during the fourth nuclear summit.
iii. PM Narendra Modi will be the fifth Indian Prime Minister to address a joint meeting of Congress, and the first since 2005.
iv. Earlier, Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi, P V Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh had addressed the joint meeting of the US Congress.

7. BLOOD ON MY HANDS: CONFESSIONS OF STAGED ENCOUNTERS A BOOK AUTHORED BY KISHALAY BHATTACHARJEE RELEASED
i. The book titled Blood on my Hands: Confessions of Staged Encounter authored by Kishlay Bhattacharjee was released.

1. WORLD DAY FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK 2016 OBSERVED ON 28TH APRIL
i. 28 April is observed as World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
ii. The Theme of the day is Workplace Stress: a collective challenge.
iii. The International Labour Organisation celebrates World Day for Safety and Health to raise awareness of safety in the workplace.

2. JAPAN UNVEILED TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPICS EMBLEMS
i. Japan's Olympic organisers released the new official logos of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
ii. The emblems are designed by Asao Tokolo, feature an indigo-coloured check in the design.
iii. The Olympic logo features a circular Japanese traditional checkered pattern.
iv. Below the design are the words Tokyo 2020 and under them the five interlocking Olympic rings.
v. The design is meant to express a refined elegance and sophistication that exemplifies Japan.
vi. 2020 Summer Olympics games are planned to be held from 24 July 2020 to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.

3. ALL NEW MOBILES TO HAVE PANIC BUTTON FROM 2017
i. The Department of Telecommunications has stated that from next year, all mobile phone sold in India will come with a dedicated 'panic button'.
ii. It will also have the Global Positioning System facility in it.
iii. These facility can be used to send out a signal in case of distress.
iv. It aims to improve the safety of women and ensuring a quick response from security agencies.

4. NANDU NATEKAR BECAME FIRST NON-CRICKETER TO BECOME A MEMBER OF CCI'S LEGEND CLUB
i. Badminton player Nandu Natekar became the first non-Cricketer to be inducted into the Legends Cricket Club of India.
ii. The two Indian players Nandu and Kapil were inducted into the Club’s legend group after consultation with the Cricket Club of Indi.

5. UNION CABINET APPROVES MOU BETWEEN INDIA AND PAPUA NEW GUINEA IN HEALTH AREA AND MEDICAL SCIENCE
i. The Union Government has decided to allow States to impose and enforce stock limits on sugar in order to check the the price rise of sweetener in the market.
ii. The decision to bring sugar under the purview of stock holding limits on dealers of sugar was taken in Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
iii. It will empower State and Central Government agencies to impose stock limits and regulate supply, storage, distribution and trade of sugar in order to bring down sugar prices at reasonable level.

 6. GOPAL SUBRAMANIUM APPOINTED AS AMICUS CURIAE TO IMPLEMENT JUSTICE RM LODHA COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS
i. Supreme Court appointed Gopal Subramanium as ‘amicus curiae’ to assist to explore how the recommendations of the Justice RM Lodha committee could be implemented. 
ii. He will also assist the court in establishing the legal validity of recommendations of the R M Lodha committee.

iii. Gopla Subramanium is a high-profile senior advocate who also served as the solicitor general of India from.
