1.       PM MODI & ANTONIO GUTERRES LAUNCHED MISSION LIFE

·         The Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi, and United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres made the global launch of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment) for sustainable and healthy lifestyle at the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, Gujarat.

·         Mission LiFE was introduced by PM Narendra Modi during COP26 (Conference of the Parties) at Glasgow, Scotland in November 2021.

·         The mission is a 5-year program (2022-2027). In the first year, it will be curated and incubated by NITI Aayog, and then will be implemented by MoEFCC.

 

2.       90TH INTERPOL GENERAL ASSEMBLY NEW DELHI

·         The 90th session of INTERPOL General Assembly was held in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi (Delhi).

·         It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi.

·         The INTERPOL General Assembly meeting was held in India after a gap of about 25 years. It was last held in 1997.

·         The INTERPOL launched the first ever Global Police Metaverse specifically designed for law enforcement agencies worldwide. 

·         INTERPOL’s first-ever Global Crime Trend report 2022 was also released and presented to delegates.

·         It highlights current and emerging crime threats at both the global and regional levels.

·         INTERPOLHeadquarters– Lyon, France

 

3.       PAKISTAN EXCLUDED FROM FATFGREY LIST

·         The first Plenary of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) under the Presidency of T. Raja Kumar of Singapore was held at FATF headquarters in Paris, France. 

·         FATF has put Myanmar on the black list/ high-risk jurisdictions

·         Russia is barred from participating in current and future FATF projects as it continues to violate FATFs core principles.

·         New jurisdictions subject to increased monitoring or under Grey List are the Democratic Republic ofCongo (DRC), Mozambiqueand Tanzania.

·         Pakistan is excluded from the grey list after four years

·         Nicaragua too removed from the grey which had been under a close FATF monitoring since 2018.

·         When the FATF places a jurisdiction grey list, it means the country has to resolve the identified strategic deficiencies in their regimes to counter money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing within agreed timeframes and is subject to increased monitoring.

·         Currently 23 countries are under the Grey List.

 

4.       LATE ANNA MAY WONG ,1ST ASIAN-AMERICAN ACTOR APPEARS ON US CURRENCY

·         Late Wong Liu Tsong, professionally known as Anna May Wong, 1st Chinese-American actor will become the 1st Asian American to appear on US currency.

·         Anna May Wong’s face chin resting on her hand will begin circulating on 24th October 2022, as the 5th coin in the American Women Quarters (AWQ) Program.

 

5.       THE NETHERLANDS BECOME INDIA’S 3RD-LARGEST EXPORT MARKET

·         The Netherlands has overtaken China and Bangladesh to become India’s 3rd-largest export destination, marking a significant shift in the export ranking for the fiscal year 2022–2023 (FY23).

·         The United States (US) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continue to be India’s largest (1st) and second-largest (2nd) export destinations, respectively.

 

6.       PMAY-U AWARDS 2021

·         Uttar Pradesh(UP) has won the top honour at the  Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban(PMAY-U) Awards 2021 under the “Best Performing State” category.

·         Madhya Pradesh(MP) and Tamil Nadu(TN) have won the 2nd and 3rd Prizes under the Best Performing State category respectively.

·         In 2019, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs(MoHUA) established the PMAY-U Awards for Implementation and innovation under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban(PMAY-U).

 

7.       UK PM LIZ TRUSS RESIGNS

·         United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister (PM) Elizabeth Truss (Liz Truss) resigned from the post just six weeks after her appointment due to the economic programme that enraged most of the party members

·         She is the 4th PM of the Conservative Party(Tory party) after David Cameron, Theresa May, and Boris Johnson to resign before the end of their term.

·         Prior to her appointment as PM of UK, she served as the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs(since 2019).

·         Liz Truss becomes the shortest-serving PM, just for 45 days.

 

8.       QCI APPOINTS JAXAY SHAH AS NEW CHAIRMAN

·         Quality Council of India (QCI) has appointed Jaxay Shah, former Chairman of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI)as the new Chairman of QCI for a period of 3 years

·         Jaxay Shah succeeds the former McKinsey India Chief Adil Zainulbhai who served as the Chairman of QCI from 2014 to 2022.

·         QCI is an organisation of 1,000 and above people who are improving the quality of life for 140 crore Indian citizens.

·         It has helped the government with various flagship schemes to assess the quality of education, healthcare, food, sanitation, groundwater management, and natural resources like coal.

 

9.       INDIA TESTS NUCLEAR-CAPABLE ‘AGNI PRIME’ BALLISTIC MISSILE

·         India successfully test-fired ‘Agni Prime (Agni-P)’, a new generation nuclear capable ballistic missiles from off the coast of Odisha.

·         This was Agni Prime’s third consecutive and successful test.

·         The ‘Agni Prime’ is a two-stage canisterised missile with a maximum range of 2,000 km and minimum range of 1000 km.

·         It is surface-to-surface ballistic missile.

·         The nuclear-capable missile has been designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

·         It can be launched from rail or road and can be stored for longer period of time.

 

10.    KHELO INDIA YOUTH GAMES 2022 TO BE HELD IN MADHYA PRADESH

The 5th edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2022 will be held in 8 cities in Madhya Pradesh from 31st January to 11th February 2023.

·         The 4 edition of KIYG 2021, which was postponed due to COVID-19, was held in June 2022 in Haryana.

·         KIYG 2022 will feature a mix of Olympic, non-Olympic and traditional Indian sports like mallakhamb.

 

11.    THE BOOK “FROM DEPENDENCE TO SELF-RELIANCE”- DR BIMAL JALAN

·         Economist DrBimal Jalan authored the book “From dependence to Self-Reliance: Mapping India’s Rise as a Global Superpower”, a stocktaking of India’s growth trajectory, benefits from Bimal Jalan’s deep insights.

·         The author was the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

1.         14TH WORLD SPICE CONGRESS TO BE HELD IN MUMBAI

·           It will be organized by the Spices Board, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), Government of India (GoI), in association with several trade and export farmers.

·           Theme for the 14th edition of WSC – ‘Vision 2030:

·           SPICES’ (Sustainability, Productivity, Innovation, Collaboration, Excellence and Safety).

 

2.         INDIA 3RD ON THE LIST OF CENTI-MILLIONAIRES

·           According to The Centi-Millionaire Report – The Emergence of a New Class of Super-Rich, the first-ever global study of centi-millionaires, India has the third-highest number of centi-millionaires in the world, surpassing the United Kingdom (UK), Switzerland & Russia.

·           Out of the 25,490 centi-millionaires in the world, 1,132 are present in India.

·           These centi-millionaires are individuals who have investable assets worth more than USD 100 million (Rs. 830 crore).

·           By 2032, India is expected to surpass China (number 2) as the fastest growing market for centi-millionaires,

·           The United States (US) ranks first in the report and is home to 38% (9,730) of global centi-millionaires

·           The 2nd and 3rd positions are occupied by the major growing economies of China and India, with 2,021 and 1,132 centi-millionaires, respectively.

·           The UK ranks 4th (with 968 centi-millionaires), closely followed by Germany in 5th place (with 966).

 

3.         ‘SARANG – THE FESTIVAL OF INDIA IN REPUBLIC OF KOREA’

·           Indian Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, organized the annual flagship cultural program, the 8th edition of ‘SARANG – The Festival of India in Republic of Korea’

·           The Festival of India in the Republic of Korea enthralled South Korean art and music lovers with a fusion of Indian and Korean dance and music in a grand spectacle.

 

4.         SIR SYED EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR 2022

·           Professor Barbara Daly Metcalf, American historian and internationally acclaimed scholar of South Asian history and Islam conferred the Sir Syed Excellence International Award for 2022 by the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)

·           At the same event, Sir Syed Excellence National Award 2022 was given to the Maulana Azad Education Foundation, New Delhi, Delhi.

·           In 1877 Sir Syed Ahmad Khanestablished the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. By 1920 the college was transformed into the Aligarh Muslim University.

 

5.         GAUTAM ADANI TOPS 2022 FORBES LIST OF INDIA’S 100 RICHEST

·           Gautam Adani, has topped the list with a net worth of USD 150 billion.

·           With a net worth of USD 88 Billion, MukeshAmbani, has secured the 2nd position

·           RadhakishanDamani has entered the top 3 for the first time with a net worth of USD 27.6 Billion.

·           The collective wealth of India’s 100 Richest On the 2022 Forbes List has increased by USD 25 billion to USD 800 Billion.

 

6.         EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT’S 2022 SAKHAROV PRIZE

·           The European Parliament awarded the 2022 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, a prestigious human rights prize to the brave people of Ukraine, represented by their President VolodymirZelenskyy to honour their resistance to Russia’s invasion and ongoing war.

·           The awarding of the Sakharov Prize will take place on 14 December 2022 in Strasbourg, France.

 

7.         DR K P ASHWINI APPOINTED AS UNHRC’S SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR

·           United Nations Human Rights Council(UNHRC) has appointed Dr K P Ashwini, of India as its Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.

·           She becomes the first Indian and Asian to be appointed as UNHRC’s special rapporteur.

·           Dr K P Ashwini appointment was made official during the UNHRC session that concluded on 7th October 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.

8.         FIFA UNVEILS MASCOT OF FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP 2023 – TAZUNI

·           Tazuni, a fun, football-loving Penguin was unveiled as the official Mascot of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.

·           The name Tazuni is a fusion of the Tasman sea, the home of penguins and Unity, which is the key value of the event.

9.         WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 20 

·           World Osteoporosis Day is annually observed across the globe on 20th October to create awareness about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become weak and brittle

·           The theme of the 2022 campaign of World Osteoporosis Day is “Step Up for Bone Health”.

11.      INDIA, FRANCE RE-ELECTED AS PRESIDENT AND CO-PRESIDENT OF ISA

·           India and France have been re-elected as President and Co-President of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

·           In this regard, India’s Union Minister Raj Kumar Singh, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been re-elected as the President of ISA, and France’s Minister of State for

·           Development,  ChrysoulaZacharopoulou has been re-elected as Co-President.
5th assembly of the ISA held in New Delhi which saw the participants from 109 countries.

 

12.      SHIV NADAR TOPS INDIA PHILANTHROPY LIST 2022

·           Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL Technologies, has topped the EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2022  and reclaimed the ‘India’s Most Generous’ title with an annual donation of Rs 1,161 crore.

·           AzimPremji, Chairman of Wipro Limited secured the 2nd spot with an annual donation of RS 484 crore.

 

13.      KARNATAKA BANK WINS 3 ‘DX 2022 AWARDS’ NATIONAL DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AWARD 

·           Karnataka Bank Limited (KBL) is awarded the National Digital Transformation Awards ‘DX 2022 Awards’ by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for Best Practice in Digital Transformation under the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) segment.

·           The awards recognise ‘innovative excellence’ in categories:Employee Engagement- KBL HR NxT,Operational Excellence- KBL Operations NxT,Customer Experience- KBL Customer NxT.

·           In 2021, KBL launched the ‘KBL NxT’ concept to emerge as the ‘digital bank of the future’.

 

14.      BHARATI DAS TAKES CHARGE AS NEW CGA OF INDIA 

·           Bharati DasIndian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, took charge as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA), in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

·           Bharati Das is the 27th Controller General of Accounts, Ministry of Finance.

 

15.      ISRO SET TO LAUNCH CHANDRAYAAN-3 IN JUNE 2023 

·           Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has planned to launch the 3rd mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-3(C-3) in June 2023 onboard Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3).

·           Chandrayaan-3(C-3) is a follow up mission of Chandrayaan-2(July 2019) that aims to land a rover on the lunar South Pole.

·           The first attempt of India to land a rover on the moon failed when the Vikram lander onboard Chandrayaan-2(C-2) mission crashed on the surface of the moon on 6th September 2019.

·           Pragyan, the rover of C-2, was destroyed along with the Vikram lander.

·           ISRO has also lined up the first test flight of the Abort Mission for Gaganyaan, the first human spaceflight.

·           The mission is expected to be launched in December 2024.
