1.      ‘2ND WORLD CONFERENCE ON ACCESS TO MEDICAL PRODUCTS: ACHIEVING THE SDGS 2030’ INAUGURATED BY SHRI J P NADDA
i. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda inaugurated ‘2nd World Conference on Access to Medical Products: Achieving the SDGs 2030’ in New Delhi.
ii. The objectives of the conference is working on recommendations from the 1st World iii. Conference 2017, work on medical products in the context of SDGs of WHO,Accelerating research and innovation.
iv. It also highlighted the importance of traditional medical system in achieving the health goals. The National Health Policy 2017 was also discussed.

2.      EAM SUSHMA SWARAJ LAUNCHED ‘INDIA FOR HUMANITY’ INITIATIVE IN NEW DELHI
i. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched ‘India for Humanity’ initiative in New Delhi.
ii. It is a part of 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi being held over the next one year.
iii. This initiative comprises of a year-long series of artificial limb fitment camps in a number of countries spanning the globe fully sponsored by Ministry.

3.      20-MEMBER ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION (PREVENTION AND CONTROL) AUTHORITY RECONSTITUTED BY GOVERNMENT
i. Centre reconstituted 20-member Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority or the EPCA
ii. The objective is to tackle air pollution in the National Capital Region
The authority is headed by Former secretary Bhure Lal.
iii. Ajay Mathur, Arunabha Ghosh, Navroz K. Dubash,  and Vishnu Mathur are some other important members
iv. EPCA is Supreme Court mandated body tasked with taking various measures to tackle air pollution in the National Capital Region.

1.      JIMEX 18’: 3RD EDITION OF INDIA-JAPAN BILATERAL MARITIME EXERCISE BEGAN AT VISAKHAPATNAM
i. ‘JIMEX 18’: 3rd edition of India-Japan bilateral maritime exercise began at Visakhapatnami.
ii. JIMEX-18 is aimed to enhance interoperability, improve understanding and imbibe the best practices of each other.
iii. The last edition of JIMEX was conducted in Dec 2013 off Chennai.

2.      TASK FORCE LAUNCHED TO ADDRESS SKILL GAPS IN INDIA: MOSD&E AND WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
i. A  task force was constituted by the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship in collaboration with World Economic Forum for addressing the skill gap in the country.
ii. This task force is called: Closing the Skills Gap Task Force in India .
This is the second country-led public-private collaboration of the World Economic Forum’s Closing the Skills Gap Project after South Africa.
iii. The task force would bring together various leaders from different sectors like business, government, education and Working on promoting education and training systems in the country.

3.      “QUINTERO ONE”: WORLD’S FIRST FULL-SCALE HYPERLOOP PASSENGER CAPSULE UNVEILED
i. US-based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies or HyperloopTT launched the first full-scale transportation capsule which will be operational in 2019.
ii. The name of the capsule is: “Quintero One”.
It was constructed completely out of a specially made dual-layer smart composite material called  “Vibranium” made by HyperloopTT.
iii. It can move at speeds of more than 750 miles (1,200 kilometers) per hour and has a capacity to hold 30 to 40 passengers at a time.
iv. Andhra Pradesh signed Mou with HyperloopTT o set up the Hyperloop transportation system connecting Anantapur, Amaravati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

1.      RUSSIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN’S 2-DAY VISIT TO INDIA 2018
I. Russian President Vladimir Putin reached New Delhi commencing his on two-day visit to India.
II. The Russian President attended the 19th India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit 2018 in New Delhi.
III. India and Russia signed their biggest defence deal in over two decades for Five S-400 air defence systems with worth $5.43 billion ( Rs. 39,000 crore), surface-to-air missile systems
IV. The 2 countries have also set a target of achieving $30 billion bilateral trade by 2025.
V. Indra 2018, joint India-Russia counter-terrorism exercise, to be held in UP in November
VI. The S-400 regiments will be delivered starting 2020 and are likely to be deployed to cover both the Pakistani and Chinese borders.

2.      THE ELECTRONIC TRADING PLATFORMS (RESERVE BANK) DIRECTIONS, 2018’ RELEASED BY RBI
I. RBI issued norms for operating Electronic Trading Platforms to enable transactions in eligible instruments.
II. The Electronic Trading Platforms (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2018’ called: ‘The Electronic Trading Platforms (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2018’.
III. ETPs will strictly mean any electronic platform except the stock exchange, where transactions of eligible instruments would take place.
IV. A entity to operate as an ETP, it has to obtain the permission of the RBI beforehand.
V. Furthermore, an entity seeking authorisation as an ETP operator should possess and maintain a minimum net-worth of Rs 5 crore at all times.

1.      NATIONAL DOLPHIN RESEARCH CENTRE (NDRC): INDIA’S FIRST DOLPHIN RESEARCH CENTRE TO COME UP SOON IN PATNA
i. National Dolphin Research Centre (NDRC), India’s and Asia’s first such centre would be soon opened on the banks of river Ganga river in the Patna University premises, Bihar.
ii. The NDRC has been set up to safeguard the endangered Gangetic river dolphin. They are killed in huge numbers for their flesh, fat and oil.
iii. The State government of Bihar celebrates October 5 as the Dolphin day.

2.      VIRAT KOHLI BECOMES SECOND FASTEST TO SCORE 24 TEST CENTURIES AFTER DON BRADMAN
i. India cricket captain Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman after Donald Bradman to reach 24 Test centuries.
ii. He has also surpassed Australia’s Steve Smith and has become second person in the list of centurions among active players, behind South Africa’s Hashim Amla.

3.      LEWIS HAMILTON WINS THE JAPANESE FORMULA ONE GRAND PRIX
i. Four-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes won the 2018 Japanese Grand Prix
ii. Japan was the only Asian nation to host a Formula One race (including the Pacific Grand Prix) until Malaysia joined the calendar in 1999.

1.      COUNTRY’S FIRST METHANOL-BASED COOKING FUEL ROLLED OUT BY APL IN ASSAM
i. NITI Aayog member and former director general of the Defence Research and Development Organisation  Vijay Kumar Saraswat inaugurated the ‘Green and Clean Fuel Pilot Project on Methanol cooking Stove’.It is the first of its kind in realizing the concept of NITI Aayog’s programme of ‘Methanol Economy’.
ii. Initially the product will be available only in the Northeastern Region.
iii. NITI Aayog’s Methanol Economy  programme, NITI Aayog aims to replace 20% of the crude imports with methanol alone. It will mitigate rise of price of fuels and bring down pollution by 40%.
iv. This concept has also been adopted by various countries like: Japan, China, Italy, Sweden, US, Israel, Australia etc.

2.      INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WOMEN’S HEALTH, WELLNESS AND EMPOWERMENT IN KANPUR
i. International Conference on Women’s Health, Wellness and Empowerment was held in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
ii. Theme of the conference was: “Give her wings and let her soar.” President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the conference.

ii. He is the first Indian to hold the chairman and world president post of IAA.

1.      APPLE WORLD’S TOP BRAND, FACEBOOK SLIPS TO 9TH SPOT: REPORT
i. According to a report called – “Best 100 Global Brands 2018” by global brand consultancy Interbrand, Apple topped the chart as the best brand of 2018.
ii. Samsung ranked 6th and Facebook was ranked 9th.

2.      IRDAI GAVE FINAL APPROVAL TO RELIANCE HEALTH INSURANCE TO START OPERATIONS
i. IRDAI approved Reliance Health Insurance, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Capital, to begin operations from December 2018.
ii. Health insurance in India has been amongst the fastest-growing insurance sectors, rising at 20 per cent annually and is expected to double to over Rs 1,00,000 crore by 2021.

3.      WINNERS OF 2018 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE: DENIS MUKWEGE AND NADIA MURAD
i. Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege and Yazidi campaigner Nadia Murad won the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.
ii. Dr Mukwege,  gynaecologist has been associated with treatment of various sexual assault victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
iii. Ms Murad,  became a victim of war crimes herself and became the first UN goodwill ambassador for survivors of human trafficking.

1.      GOVERNMENT CUTS EXCISE DUTY ON FUEL BY RS 2.50, APPEALS STATES TO LOWER VAT
i. The government and oil companies will absorb the price cut by Rs 1.50 and Rs 1 respectively.
ii. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has also urged the state governments to reduce Value Added Tax on fuel by another Rs 2.50.

2.      INDIA RANKED 28TH AMONG 73 COUNTRIES IN GOVT E-PAYMENT ADOPTION: 2018 VISA SURVEY
i. India ranked 28th among 73 countries in govt e-payment adoption
ii. India moved up to 28th in 2018, from 36th in 2011.
iii. India is at the 58th place for digital infrastructure

3.      NOBEL CHEMISTRY PRIZE FOR EVOLUTION RESEARCH: FRANCES ARNOLD, GEORGE SMITH AND GREGORY WINTER
i. US scientists Frances Arnold and George Smith and British researcher Gregory Winter won the Nobel Chemistry Prize.
ii. They were awarded the Nobel Chemistry Prize for applying the principles of evolution to develop enzymes used to make various items from biofuels to pharmaceuticals.
iii. Frances Arnold is the 5th woman to win the Nobel Chemistry Prize.

1.      MANIPUR DECLARED AS 23RD OPEN DEFECATION FREE STATE: CM OF MANIPUR
I. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh declared Manipur as the 23rd state in the country to become Open Defecation Free  in India.
II. It is the 5th North-Eastern state to get the tag.
III. This announced during the celebration of National Cleanliness Day at Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal.
IV. He also launched the Google Toilet Locator to enable locating nearest public toilet for use.

2.      SAHYOG-HOP TAC 2018: JOINT EXERCISE OF INDIA, VIETNAM COMMENCED IN CHENNAI
I. A joint exercise of ‘Sahyog-Hop Tac 2018’ commenced off Chennai coast between Vietnam and India.
II. This exercise  enhance cooperation between the two Coast Guards in areas of maritime safety and security.
III. VIETNAM:-Capital: Hanoi. Currency: Vietnamese dong.

3.      14 –DAY IBSAMAR VI: INDIA, BRAZIL & SA NAVIES TRAIN TO BUILD INTEROPERABILITY IN SOUTH AFRICA
I. The 6th edition of IBSAMAR, a joint Multi – National Maritime Exercise between the
II. Indian, Brazilian and South African Navies commenced at Simons Town, South Africa.
III. For the first time, earlier in 2018 from Feb 19-26, IBSAMAR (IBSAMAR V) was conducted off Goa as all previous exercises were held in South Africa.

1.      GOVT PERMITTED IMPORT OF PET COKE BY THE GRAPHITE ELECTRODE INDUSTRY
I. The directorate general of foreign trade  anounced that the government allowed imports of pet coke, used for fuel purpose, by graphite electrode industry.
II. The imports were allowed only four industries so far- cement, lime klin, calcium carbide, and gasification industries.
III. The graphite electrode industry has been added in to the list as the 5th industry.
IV. Directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT): Shri Alok Chaturvedi , Under Commerce Ministry.

2.      NIWARI INDUCTED AS THE 52ND DISTRICT OF MADHYA PRADESH
I. The state Cabinet of Madhya Pradesh approved the proposal of induction of Niwari district in the state.
II. It became the 52nd district of the state.
III. IAS officer Akshay Kumar Singh has been appointed as the first interim District Collector of the district.

3.      IMF, WORLD BANK AND WTO LAUNCHED REINVIGORATING TRADE AND INCLUSIVE GROWTH REPORT
I. IMF, World Bank and WTO launched Reinvigorating Trade and Inclusive Growth Report.
II. This report seeks to identify areas where trade has the potential of contributing productivity for economic growth.
III. According to the report, full services trade liberalisation could raise manufacturing productivity by an average of 22 per cent across a sample of 57 countries.
IV. Better access and reliability of the manufacturing sector brought investment in new opportunities and technologies and helped in enhancing business services and coordination with customers.
