1.          YUDH ABHYAS 22 – 18TH EDITION OF INDIA-US JOINT MILITARY TRAINING EXERCISE

·            18th edition of the Indo-United States (US) joint military training exercise ‘YUDH ABHYAS 22’ begins at Auli in Chamoli district, Uttrakhand

·            This exercise will be carried out at the new Foreign Training Node (FTN), built at a high altitude in Uttarakhand’s Auli

 

2.          CLIMATE CHANGE PERFORMANCE INDEX 2023

·            The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2023 released which was published by three environmental non-governmental organizations viz. Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and the Climate Action Network (CAN) International.

·            India climbed two spots to bag 8th position out of 63 with a score of 67.35, and achieved ‘High’ performance rating.

·            The CCPI 2023 is topped by Denmark with High rating but overall it is ranked at 4th position. It is followed by Sweden and Chile at 5th and 6th position respectively.

·            India ranked at top in the grouping of top 10 emitters. It is followed by Germany and Japan at 2nd and 3rd positions of this grouping.

 

3.          ESAF BANK GETS TOP ‘BEST IN CLASS’ ESG RATINGS FROM CAREEDGE

·            ESAF Small Finance Bank (ESAF SFB) awarded with the ‘Best in Class’ rating for Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices from CareEdge Ratings.

·            ESAF is the first Indian member bank of the Global Alliance on Banking on Values (GAVB).

 

4.          NINE SPECIAL VOSTRO ACCOUNTS OPENED FOR TRADE IN RUPEE AFTER RBI APPROVAL

·            The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the opening of nine special Vostro accounts with two Indian banks—UCO Bank and IndusInd Bank—to promote overseas trade in Indian rupees (INR).

·            Sberbank and VTB Bank, the top two banks in Russia, opened accounts with their own branch offices in India and became the first foreign lenders to receive the approval.

·            Russia’s Gazprombank, which has no branches in India, has also created this account with the state-run UCO Bank (Kolkata).

·            Six different Russian banks have also opened accounts with IndusInd Bank.

·            UCO Bank already has a vostro account-based facility in Iran.

 

5.          RBI IMPOSES RS 12 LAKH FINE ON SIX CO-OPERATIVE BANKS,

·            The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) fined nine entities, including six co-operative banks and three Sahakari banks

·            A total of Rs 11.60 lakh (Rs 12 lakh) was imposed for violating various banking norms.

 

6.          OPEN GETS RBI NOD FOR PAYMENT AGGREGATOR LICENCE

·            The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted in principle approval to Open, a neo-banking fintech, for a Payment Aggregator Gateway (PA/PG) licence.

·            The RBI announced the Payment Aggregator (PA) Framework in March 2020, requiring all payment gateways to obtain a licence in order to acquire merchants and provide payment services to merchants.

·            Open was founded in 2017 as a neo-banking platform. It provides Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with a comprehensive financial platform to automate their finances.

 

7.          SUMEET ANAND CONFERRED WITH THE LEGION D’HONNEUR BY EMMANUEL LENAIN

·            Sumeet Anand, Founder of IndSight Growth Partners and President of the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI) conferred with the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur (Knight of the National Order of the French Legion of Honour) by Emmanuel Lenain, Ambassador of France to India.

·            The Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneuris instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 

·            It is the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for outstanding contribution to the recipient’s field of expertise, regardless of nationality.

·            The 1st Indian to be awarded the Legion of Honour was Maharaja Pratap Singh of Idar, Gujarat, in 1918.

 

8.          GOVT APPOINTS ARVIND VIRMANI AS FULL-TIME MEMBER OF NITI AAYOG 

·            Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the appointment of Arvind Virmani, Founder & Chairman of Foundation for Economic Growth & Welfare, as Full-Time Member of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog

·            At present NITI Aayog has 3 members: Prof. Ramesh Chand, Dr VK Saraswat and Dr VK Paul

 

9.          GOVT NOMINATES VIVEK JOSHI AS DIRECTOR ON RBI’S CENTRAL BOARD 

·            The government nominated Vivek Joshi as a Director on the Central Board of Reserve Bank of India (RBI)

·            Vivek Joshi is currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.

 

10.       NASA’S SLS ROCKET, ORION SPACECRAFT LAUNCHED TO THE MOON

·            The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA’s) launched its Space Launch System (SLS), the most powerful rocket in the world, the agency’s Orion spacecraft to the moon, as a part of the Artemis Program.

·            It is Launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States of America(USA).

·            Orion is planned to travel approximately 40,000 miles beyond the Moon and return to Earth over the course of 25.5 days.

·            The mission, dubbed Artemis I, marks the first flight of NASA’s SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft together.

·            The mission launched almost 50 years after the end of the Apollo programme, aims to put astronauts back on the lunar surface.

 

11.       INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR TOLERANCE 2022 – NOVEMBER 16

·            International Day for Tolerance was established to mark the adoption of The Declaration of Principles on Tolerance by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its 28th session in Paris, France, on 16th November 1995.

12.       NATIONAL PRESS DAY 2022 – NOVEMBER 16 

·            National Press Day is annually observed across India on 16th November to commemorate the day on which the Press Council of India(PCI) started its function as the moral watchdog to ensure that press maintains the high standards and is not fettered by any form of influence or threats.

·            The day also aims to highlight its importance as the 4th pillar of democracy(Media).

·            The theme of National Press Day 2022 is “The Media’s Role is Nation Building”.

 

13.       DIGITAL SHAKTI 4.0 TO DIGITALLY EMPOWER WOMEN & GIRLS IN CYBERSPACE

·            The National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with CyberPeace Foundation and Meta launched the fourth phase of the Digital Shakti Campaign, Digital Shakti 4.0, a pan-India project on digitally empowering and skilling women and girls in cyberspace.

·            Digital Shakti 4.0 campaign mainly focuses on making women digitally skilled and on creating awareness against any illegal or inappropriate activity online.

·            This collaboration empowers women and girls to use technology to their advantage and to keep themselves safe online.

·            In 2018, Digital Shakti 1.0 was launched to help women across India to create digital awareness, to build resilience, and fight cybercrime in the most effective ways.

 

14.       INDIA BECOMES THE WORLD’S 2ND LARGEST PRODUCER OF STEEL

·            According to the World Steel Association, India has become the world’s 2nd largest producer of Crude Steel after China in 2018 and 2019, replacing Japan.

·            India’s crude steel production in 2018 was 109.3 million tonnes (MT), an increase of 7.7% from 101.5 MT in 2017.

·            Top 5 Crude steel producers in the world in 2018 & 2019 are: China, India, Japan, the United States of America (USA), and South Korea.

 

15.       17TH G20 SUMMIT 2022 IN BALI

·            The Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi paid an official visit to Bali, Indonesia to attend the 17th G20 (Group of twenty) Summit.

·            He was invited by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

·            The summit was held under the Indonesian Presidency on the theme of ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’.

·            G20 Summit Agenda includes three working session’s viz. food and energy security; health; and digital transformation.

·            Indonesia’s President handed over the G20 presidency to India which will officially assume the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2022, and will focus on the theme of ‘VasudhaivaKutumbakam’ or ‘One Earth One Family One Future’ underlining equitable growth and shared future for all.

 

16.       SURAJ BHAN APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN OF NPS TRUST

·            Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority (PFRDA) has appointed Suraj Bhan as the Chairman of the board of National Pension System Trust (NPST)

·            NPST was established by PFRDA as per the provisions of the Indian Trusts Act of 1882.

 

17.       MK30: AMAZON UNVEILS DESIGN OF AIR DELIVERY DRONE

·            Amazon has unveiled the design of an Air delivery drone ‘MK30’, which will handle high temperatures and light rain, will enter into service in 2024 by replacing MK27-2.

·            The Transport packages weigh up to five pounds while flying hundreds of feet.

 

18.       INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ DAY 2022 – NOVEMBER 17

·            International Students’ Day is annually observed across the globe on November 17 to ensure that every student across the globe has access to education.

·            Originally, the day was established to remember the students who died in World War II and to remember the events that took place in Prague during World War II in 1939.

1.          GOVT AMENDS AADHAAR RULES

·            The government has changed Aadhaar laws to state that supporting documentation must be updated “at least once” by Aadhaar holders after 10 years from the enrolment date.

·            The update would assure the ‘continuous correctness’ of Aadhaar-related data in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).

·            The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has developed a new feature of ‘update document’ on the myAadhaar portal and mobile app to facilitate updating of documents.

 

2.          DIGILOCKER USERS CAN NOW DIGITALLY STORE HEALTH RECORDS

·            DigiLocker, the authentic documents exchange platform under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MoEIT) has successfully completed its 2nd level of integration with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

·            DigiLocker’s secure cloud-based storage platform can now be used as a health locker to store and retrieve health documents such as vaccination records, doctor prescriptions, lab tests, hospital discharge summaries, etc.

·            DigiLocker had previously completed level 1 integration with ABDM, in which the platform added an ABHA creation facility for its 13 crore users.

 

3.          IBA’S EASE REFORMS INDEX FOR Q1FY23

·            The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) released a report on ‘EASE Reforms Index for Q1 FY 2022-23’ where EASE stands for ‘Enhanced Access & Service Excellence’.

·            As per the report State Bank of India (SBI) is the Best Bank in adopting reforms prescribed for Public Sector Banks (PSBs).

·            It is followed by Union Bank of India (UBI) at 2nd position and Bank of Baroda (BoB) at 3rd.

 

4.          VENKATRAMAN RAMAKRISHNAN AWARDED UK’S ROYAL ORDER OF MERIT

·            Indian-born Nobel laureate Professor Venkatraman Ramakrishnan has been awarded the United Kingdom’s (UK) Royal Order of Merit by Britain’s King Charles III in recognition of his distinguished service to science.

·            Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, a UK-based molecular biologist, is one of 6 appointments made to the historic order by Queen Elizabeth II before her demise in September 2022.

·            The Order of Merit was founded by King Edward VII in 1902.It is a special honour conferred by the Sovereign for individuals of great distinction in military services, science, arts, literature, or cultural promotion.

·            Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is an Indian-born American and British structural biologist (He holds dual British and American nationality).

 

5.          SLOVENIA’S FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT

·            Natasa Pirc Musar was elected as Slovenia’s first female President after beating her conservative rival in the second round of elections.

·            Out of 49.9 percent of people who had voted in the election, Pirc Musar won almost 54 percent of the vote, ahead of Logar, who got 46 percent.

6.          8TH ICC MEN’S T20 WORLD CUP 2022

·            The 8th ICC Men’s T20 (Twenty20) World Cup 2022 was hosted by Australia

·            The Championship title was grabbed by England which was their 2nd title by defeating Pakistan with 5 wickets.

·            Sam Curran of England was named the Player of the Match (Finals) and also the Player of the tournament.

·            Virat Kohli became the first player to end two ICC T20 World Cup as the leading run-scorer in the tournament.

·            He ended 2022 edition with 296 runs in six matches at an average of 98.66.

·            Surya kumar Yadav became the first Indian player to score 1,000 T20 International runs in a calendar year of T20I.

 

7.          ASBC ASIAN ELITE BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS AMMAN 2022

·            India has bagged 12 medals (4 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze) at the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Asian Elite Men And Women Boxing Championships 2022 held in Amman, Jordan

·            This marks the 3rd time where the men and women fought in the same championship.

·            The Medal tally is topped by Kazakhstan with 21 medals(6 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze) followed by Uzbekistan with 13 medals(6 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze) in 2nd rank and India with 12 medals in 3rd rank.

·            Out of the total 12 medals of India, women boxers contributed 7 medals(4 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze).

·            India topped the medal tally in women’s section followed by Kazakhstan.

 

8.          BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX 2022

·            Mercedes driver George Russell (United Kingdom) won the first race in Formula One  at the Brazilian Grand Prix 2022 officially named as ‘Sao Paulo Grand Prix 2022’.

·            George Russell is followed by Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (UK), and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz at 3rd.

 

9.          WORLD KINDNESS DAY 2022 – NOVEMBER 13

·            World Kindness Day (WKD) is annually observed across the globe on November 13 to promote kindness and inspire people to engage in at least one act of kindness that aspires to unify the world as one.

·            World Kindness Day 2022 focuses on the “#OneVoiceForKindness” Campaign.

 

10.       WORLD DIABETES DAY 2022 – NOVEMBER 14

·            The United Nations (UN)’s World Diabetes Day (WDD) is annually observed across the globe on 14th November to create awareness about Diabetes, a global public health issue, and its impact on the health of people.

·            The theme for World Diabetes Day 2021-23 is “Access to Diabetes Care”.

·            The theme of WDD 2022 is “Access to Diabetes Education” 

·            “Education to protect tomorrow” is the theme of the 2nd year of the World Diabetes Day 2021-23 campaign.

 

11.       CHILDREN’S DAY 2022 – NOVEMBER 14

·            Children’s Day is observed across India on November 14 to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s 1st Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly known as ‘Chacha Nehru’.

·            In 1954, the UN declared the 20th of November of every year as “Universal Children’s Day”.

 

12.       COASTAL DEFENCE EXERCISE – ‘SEA VIGIL’

·            The third and the biggest edition of the ‘Pan-India’ Coastal Defence Exercise ‘Sea Vigil-22’ is being conducted by Indian Navy

·            This exercise will be undertaken along the entire 7516 km coastline, covering the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of India.

·            Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Customs and other maritime agencies will participate in Sea Vigil exercise.

·            The exercise will also be facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Customsand other agencies of Centre & State.

 

13.       CCI TO HANDLE GST ANTI-PROFITEERING COMPLAINTS FROM DECEMBER 1, 2022

·            The Competition Commission of India (CCI) will handle all Goods & Services Tax (GST) anti-profiteering complaints from December 1, 2022, as the extended tenure of the National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA) ends on November 30, 2022.

·            Under Section 171A of the GST law, the NAA was established in November 2017 to monitor unfair profiteering activities by registered suppliers.

·            CCI was constituted under the Competition Act, 2002 to enforce the law.

·            It is composed of a Chairperson and six members appointed by the Central Government.

·            The Commission is entrusted with eliminating anti-competitive practices, safeguarding consumer interests, and guaranteeing free trade.

·            Acting Chairperson of the CCI – Sangeeta Verma

·            According to the GST Council’s resolution, the NAA will cease to function from December 1, 2022, and all investigations based on consumer complaints will be handled by the Directorate General of Anti-Profiteering (DGAP), which will then submit a report to CCI.

 

14.       NAGALAND CELEBRATES TOKHU EMONG FESTIVAL

·            Nagaland Celebrates a 9-day post-harvest festival of the Lotha Nagas, Tokhü Emong to spread awareness about Nagaland’s bird diversity.

·            The term ‘Tokhü’ means feast (eating food or drinking) and ‘Emong’ means halt on the appointed time.

·            The dates of Tokhü Emong bird count also coincide with the BNHS Salim Ali Bird Count, a nationwide event.

 

15.       WORLD POPULATION TO REACH 8 BILLION ON 15 NOVEMBER 2022

·            According to the United Nations (UN)World Population Prospects 2022:Summary of Results the global population is projected to achieve 8 billion on November 15, 2022

·            India is expected to overtake China as the world’s most populated country in 2023.

·            The World Population Prospects 2022 is published to commemorate World Population Day 2022 (July 11, 2022), which occurred in the year in which the world population welcomed the birth of its 8 billionth inhabitant.

·            According to the UN’s most recent estimates, the world’s population might reach 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050.

 

16.       103MN PEOPLE FORCIBLY DISPLACED WORLDWIDE: UNHCR REPORT

·            The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) released its ‘2022 Mid-Year Trends’ report stating a global surge in the number of forcibly displaced people by 13.6 million (15%) to 103 million in the H12022 (first half of 2022) as compared to the end of 2021.

·            The increase is driven by the Ukraine-Russia war, and is more than the entire population of Belgium, Burundi or Cuba.

·            As per the report, one in every 77 people worldwide is forcibly displaced.

·            Globally, refugees under UNHCR’s mandate and other people in need of international protection increased by 6.3 million (~24%) in the H12022 i.e. from 25.7 million at the end of 2021 to 32 million by mid-2022.

·            Turkey hosted 3.7 million refugees, the largest refugee population worldwide. It is followed by Colombia (2.5 million) at 2nd, and Germany at 3rd (2.2 million).

 

17.       BANK OF MAHARASHTRA TOPS LIST OF PSBS IN LOAN GROWTH IN Q2FY23

·            As per analysis of the quarterly financial numbers published by the Public Sector Banks (PSBs), the Pune (Maharashtra) headquartered Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) emerged as the top performer among PSBs in terms of loan growth in percentage terms during the Q2FY23.

·            It is followed by Union Bank of India (UBI) with a 21.54% growth to Rs 7,52,469 crore, and State Bank of India (SBI) at 3rd  spot with an 18.15% growth.

·            In absolute terms SBI’s total loans were at Rs 25,47,390 crore which is about 17 times higher as compared to Rs 1,48,216 crore of BoM.

·            BoM has a highest Capital Adequacy Ratio at 16.71%.

 

18.       “FRIENDS OF LIBERATION WAR” HONOUR FROM BANGLADESH

·            Sheikh Hasina, Prime minister (PM) of Bangladesh, conferred the Friends of Liberation War honour on Edward Moore Kennedy ,former United States (US), Senator, posthumously in Dhaka (Bangladesh) for his contribution to the liberation of Bangladesh.

·            Despite the US government’s engagement in the 1971 Liberation War, Edward M Kennedy Sr. took a courageous stand against Pakistan’s genocide against innocent Bengali people.       

 

19.       NEW MEMBERS OF IOA ATHLETES COMMISSION

·            M C Mary Kom, PV Sindhu and Shiva Keshavan were among 10 eminent sports persons elected unopposed as members of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Athletes Commission at Nehru stadium, New Delhi.

·            Under the new constitution of IOA, the athletes commission must have equal representation of male and female members.

·            The chairperson and vice-chairperson will be selected among the 10 members in the commission.

 

20.       MISUZULU ZULU CROWNED AS SOUTH AFRICA’S NEW ZULU KING

·            MisuzuluSinqobilekaZwelithini (Misuzulu Zulu), was formally enthroned as the new Zulu King, head of South Africa’s most influential traditional monarchy, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the coastal city of Durban, South Africa.

·            Misuzulu Zulu takes over the throne left by his father, Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, who passed away in March 2021.

·            In August 2022, The traditional coronation took place for King Misuzulu at KwaKhangelamankengane Palace in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa.

21.       GHANA ASSUMES UN SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENCY

·            Ghana assumed the Presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, from November 2022 for a two-year term.

·            Ghana was first given the opportunity to serve on the UN Security Council from 1962 to 1963. It is the third time Ghana is holding a non-permanent seat on the Council.

·            The Permanent Representative of Ghana to the UN in New York is Amb. Harold Agyeman

·            In June 2021, Ghana was elected by the UN General to serve a two-year term on the Security Council from January 2022 to December 2023.

 

22.       PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC MASCOTS UNVEILED

·            Tony Estanguet,  President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled the mascots for Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, “The Phryges”(pronounced fri-jee-uhs), in Paris, France.

·            Phrygian caps are a type of hat that has become an enduring symbol of freedom throughout French history.

·            Olympic Phryge and Paralympic Phryge complement each other and make each other better with a motto of “Alone we go faster, but together we go further”. 

·            The mascot made in a red, white and blue colourway, features the golden Paris 2024 logo emblazoned across their chests.

·            The mascot of Paris 2024 is a non-gender-specific mascot.
