1.              ICAO AVIATION SAFETY RANKING: INDIA’S GLOBAL RANKING INCREASES TO 48

·               According to the latest aviation safety ranking released by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), India’s ranking has risen to 48th, up from 102nd in 2018. The ranking, which also ranks India ahead of China (49), is the best ever obtained by India.

·                India now ranks above China (49), Israel (50), Turkey (54), Denmark (55) and Poland (60), in terms of effective implementation of key safety elements, with a score of 85.49%.

·                ICAO, a Specialized Agency of the United Nations, ranked about 187 countries after auditing various parameters of their aviation safety system.

·                At 99.69%, Singapore took the top spot in the list of countries with the best aviation safety; followed by United Arab Emirates (98.8%) and South Korea (98.24%).

 

2.              PRIME GLOBAL CITIES INDEX Q3 2022

·                According to the “Prime Global Cities Index Q3 2022” published by property consultant Knight Frank, Mumbai (Maharashtra) ranked 22nd in this global index that analyses the annual price appreciation of premium residential properties.

·                Knight Frank reports that in the third quarter (Q3—July-September) of 2022, average annual prices increased in three Indian cities—Mumbai, Bengaluru (Karnataka), and New Delhi (Delhi).

·                Dubai top the raningfollowed by Miami (USA) and Tokyo (Japan)

 

3.              TATA STEEL CHESS INDIA BLITZ

·                Indian Grand Master(GM) Arjun Erigaisi won the 2022 Tata Steel Chess India Open Blitz defeating American GM Hikaru Nakamura at the 2022 TATA Steel Chess India(TSCI) Rapid and Blitz4th edition of the tournament, held in Kolkata, West Bengal.

·                Indian International Master (IM) VaishaliRameshbabu defeated Ukrainian GM MariyaMuzychuk to win the 2022 Tata Steel Chess India Women’s Blitz title.

·                TATA Steel Chess India Rapid and Blitz is India’s biggest chess tournament. the first edition of the event was held in 2018.

 

4.              ISSF PRESIDENT’S CUP SHOOTING

·                RudrankkshPatil  an Indian shooter, has won the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) President’s Cup 2022 in Cairo, Egypt, by defeating Italy’s Danilo Sollazzo in the 10-metre (m) rifle

·                With this victory, RudrankkshPatil has made it to the world No. 1 in the latest International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Rankings for men’s 10m air rifle shooters.

·                In addition, RudrankshPatil earned India’s first Olympic quota for the ‘2024 Paris Olympics’ when he won the men’s 10-m air rifle event at the ISSF Rifle-Pistol World Championships 2022, held in Cairo in October 2022.

·                AnjumMoudgil, an Indian women’s rifle ace, has won silver medal in the women’s 50-m rifle in 3 positions (3P) competition

·                Anjum lost the gold medal match to German Anna Janssen (14-16) at the Egypt International Olympic City (EIOC) range.

 

5.              NAVY DAY 2022 – DECEMBER 4 

·                The day also commemorates the achievements of “Operation Trident”, an offensive operation launched by the Indian Navy during the India-Pakistan war of 1971.

·                The theme of World Soil Day 2022 is “Soils: where food begins”.

 

7.              INDIA’S 1ST GOLD ATM COMES UP IN HYDERABAD

·                Hyderabad (Telangana)-based GoldsikkaPvt Ltd has set up India’s 1st Gold Automated teller machine (ATM) and started its operations in the city at Raghupathi Chambers in Begumpet, Hyderabad.

·                Gold ATMs will be available for 24 hours.

·                Customers can use a debit or credit card to buy gold coins through the ATM.

·                Gold ATM supplies in denominations ranging from a minimum of 0.5 gms to a maximum of 100 gms.

 

8.              WORLDLINE INDIA REPORT ON DIGITAL PAYMENTS

·                According to the “India Digital Payments Report Q3 2022 released by financial services company Worldline India, more than 23 billion digital payment transactions worth Rs. 38.32 trillion were made in July-September (Q3) 2022.

·                These payments were made through prepaid payment options such mobile wallets, debit and credit cards, and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

·                UPI recorded more than 19.65 billion transactions worth Rs. 32.5 trillion in Q3 2022.

·                The top 3 UPI apps in terms of volume and value as of Q3 2022 were PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm Payments Bank App.

·                Top 3 states with the highest transactions at physical touch points in Q3 2022: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala,

·                Top 3 cities in Q3 2022 in terms of physical touch point transactions: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai

 

9.              VEENA NAIR RECEIVES THE 2022 PRIME MINISTER’S PRIZE IN AUSTRALIA 

·                Veena Nair, an Indian-origin teacher in Melbourne, Australia, has received the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science 2022 under the Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools category.

·                Veena Nair, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Project Leader and Head of Technology at Viewbank College, Melbourne, Australia, was honoured for demonstrating the practical application of STEAM to students, and how to use their skills to make a real impact in the world.

·                The 2022 Prime Minister’s Prize recognises 12 of the country’s leading scientists, innovators and science teachers.

 

10.           ‘GOBLIN MODE’: OXFORD DICTIONARIES WORD OF THE YEAR 2022

·                The Oxford English Dictionary has chosen ‘Goblin mode’ as the word of the year 2022 by an online vote. Goblin Mode received 93% of the votes against contenders “metaverse” (2nd) and “#IStandWith”(3rd).

·                Goblin mode’ is a slang term, that refers to the type of behaviour which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.

·                In 2021, the Oxford word of the year was ‘vax,’ while the Merriam-Webster word of the year was ‘vaccine.’

·                 ‘#IStandWith’ has been used to show support for a variety of causes, with evidence indicating an increase in internet searches in 2022 compared to 2021.

 

11.           LOCAL ADAPTATION CHAMPIONS AWARD AT COP27 CLIMATE SUMMIT

·                SwayamShikshanPrayog (SSP), a Maharashtra based Non-Government Organisation (NGO) won the Local Adaptation Champions Award organised by the Global Centre on Adaptation, at the Conference of Parties (COP) 27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

·                SwayamShikshanPrayog won the award under ‘capacity and knowledge’ category for its work in supporting women farmers to adopt more resilient and sustainable agricultural practices in Marathwada in Maharashtra.

·                SSP has trained more than 3 lakh rural women across India to adapt climate change with this model which is being implemented in 8 districts in Maharashtra (Osmanabad, Solapur, Latur, Landed, Washim, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar and Jalna).

 

12.           MEGHNA AHLAWAT BECOMES FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT OF TTFI

·                MeghnaAhlawat was elected as the first female President of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI)and Kamlesh Mehta,  took over as the new secretary general of the TTFI.

·                MeghnaAhlawat is the wife of the outgoing President of TTFI, DushyantChautala, Deputy Chief Minister(CM) of Haryana.

1.              TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2022

·                According to the Tribal Development Report 2022 launched by the Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation (BRLF), the Tribal communities(Adivasis) are at the bottom of India’s development pyramid.

·                Accoring to the 2011 Census, tribal communities across India account for around 8.6% of the total population.

·                Out of the 257 Scheduled Tribe districts, 90% – 230 are located in either forested or hilly or dry regions. They account for around 80% of India’s tribal population.

 

2.              UNDP REPORT: NUMBER OF PEOPLE FORCIBLY DISPLACED CROSSED 100 MILLION IN 2022

·                According to the report “Turning the Tide on Internal Displacement: A Development Approach to Solutions,” more than 100 million people were forcibly displaced in 2022 for the first time, the majority of whom were forcibly displaced within their own countries.

·                The report was created by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC).

 

3.              RBI LAUNCHES ‘DIGITAL RUPEE – RETAIL SEGMENT (E₹-R)‘ IN FOUR CITIE

·                The Reserve bank of India (RBI) launched its pilot on retail digital currency/ rupee called ‘Digital Rupee – Retail segment (e₹-R)’, a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) which is an electronic form of sovereign currency.

·                In this regard, RBI issued Rs 1.71 crore to four participating banks based on their indents.

·                In the retail pilot of the digital rupee, 8 banks have been identified for phase-wise participation in four cities of Mumbai ,New Delhi ,Bengaluru ,and Bhubaneswar .

·                In the first phase, four banks including State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI BankYES Bank, and IDFC First Bank will take part.

 

4.              CANARA BANK WINS BANKER’S BANK OF THE YEAR AWARD 2022

·                Canara Bank received the Banker’s Bank of the Year Award 2022 for the India segment (Under Asia Pacific Region) at the Global Banking Summit, held in London, United Kingdom (UK)

·                The bank has been adjudged as the ‘Best Bank in India for 2022’.

·                The Bankers’ Bank of the year awards are considered to be on par with Oscar awards for the banking sector.

·                Global – BBVA has been awarded the Global Bank of the Year 2022.

·                Asia-Pacific – Standard Chartered Bangladesh (SC Bangladesh) bagged the 2022 Bank of the Year award

 

5.              ‘PRIDE OF CENTRAL INDIA 2022’ AWARD

·                AtulPatidar, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Farmkart Online Services Private Limited (central India’s first agritech innovation startup) was awarded the prestigious Pride of Central India 2022’ award for transforming the lives of rural farmers.

·                He collaborated with Canadian Indians to establish ‘Farmkart’.Farmkart designs innovative technology solutions for farmers who have little or zero knowledge of modern technology.

 

6.              INDIA TO ASSUME CHAIRMANSHIP OF WASSENAAR ARRANGEMENT ON 1ST JANUARY

·                India will assume the chairmanship of the Wassenaar Arrangement (WA), a multilateral technology control agreement, on 1st January 2023, for a period of one year.

·                Ireland’s ambassador Eoin O’Leary handed over the chairmanship to India’s ambassador JaideepMazumdar, permanent representative to the UN and international organisations in Vienna at the 26th annual plenary of the WA held in Vienna

·                The WA is a multilateral export control regime established in 1996, monitors the transfers of conventional weapons and dual-use goods. It has 42 members and operates on a voluntary basis, where decisions are made by consensus.

·                The United States (US), the United Kingdom (UK), Japan, South Korea, France, Germany and Australia are some key members of the WA and other non-members include China and Israel.

·                India joined the Wassenaar Arrangement (WA) in 2017 and became its 42nd member.

 

7.              VIJAY HAZARE TROPHY  2022

·                Saurashtra won the Vijay Hazare Trophy Final 2022- 2023 title by defeating Maharashtra in the final at Motera, Ahmedabad

·                Manof the Tournament- Ruturaj Gaikwad, Maharashtra captain, was awarded for his exceptional performances in the match.

·                The Vijay Hazare Trophy, (officially known as Mastercard Vijay Hazare trophy for sponsorship reasons) also known as the Ranji One-Day Trophy, was started in 2002-03 as a limited-overs cricket domestic competition involving state teams from the Ranji Trophy plates organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

 

8.              INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES 2022- DECEMBER 3

·                United Nations (UN)’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) or International Day of Disabled Persons is annually observed across the globe on December 3 to raise awareness about the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

·                The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022 is ‘Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world’.

1.         DIGI YATRA LAUNCHED FOR 3 AIRPORTS IN INDIA 

·           Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) launched ‘Digi Yatra’  for three airports in India, namely New Delhi, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Bengaluru (Karnataka).

·           DigiYatra was designed to use Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) to achieve contactless, seamless passenger processing at airports.

·           It will be followed by 4 airports by March 2023: Hyderabad (Telangana), Kolkata (West Bengal), Pune (Maharashtra), and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh).

·           Currently, the service is only available to domestic flight passengers.

·           The project envisions any traveller passing through multiple airport checkpoints using paperless and contactless processing, establishing their identity with facial features and linking it to their boarding card.

 

2.         EX AGNI WARRIOR 2022 BETWEEN ARMED FORCES OF SINGAPORE & INDIA

·           The 12th edition of Agni Warrior (XAW) 2022, a bilateral exercise between the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Indian Army (IA) was held at Field Firing Ranges, Devlali in Maharashtra

·           Initiated in 2004, XAW is conducted as a part of the Army Bilateral Agreement, and testament to the long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and India.

 

3.         INDIAN ARMY TRAINS KITES TO DESTROY ENEMY DRONES

·           Indian Army forces are training Kites to prey on enemy drones in a first-of-its-kind operation. The military conducts operations with trained birds and dogs.Indian army used a kite named ‘Arjun’.

·           During the ongoing Indo-US joint training exercise YuddhAbhyas in Auli, Uttarakhand, the Indian Army showed the use of Kites to prey on hostile drones.

 

4.         RBI ADOPTED FOUR-TIERED REGULATORY FRAMEWORK FOR UCBS

·           The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revises Framework of Categorization of Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) for Regulatory Purposes.

·           This revision will be applicable to all Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks w.e.f December 1, 2022.

·           Tier-1 UCBs will continue to maintain a minimum CRAR (Capital to Risk Weighted Assets) of 9% on an ongoing basis.Tier- 2,3,4 UCBs will maintain a minimum CRAR of 12% on an ongoing basis.

·           RBI also eases rules for foreign branches or subsidiaries of banks or All India Financial Institutions (AIFIs) to deal in financial products that are not permitted in India w.e.f. December 1, 2022.

·           A letters of cooperation was exchanged between the RBI and Financial Services Agency (FSA), Japan in the field of Central Counter Parties (CCPs) to improve mutual cooperation.

 

5.         2022 BURGUNDY PRIVATE HURUN INDIA 500

·           The the second edition of the list that ranks the 500 most valuable firms in India, was published by Burgundy Private, Axis Bank’s Private Banking Business, and Hurun India.

·           According to the list, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is the most valuable listed company in India, with a valuation of Rs 17.2 lakh crore, up 3.6% from 2021.

·           Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is ranked 2nd on this list with a valuation of Rs. 11.7 lakh crore, and HDFC Bank is ranked 3rd with a valuation of Rs. 8.3 lakh crore.

 

6.         KAMALADEVI CHATTOPADHYAY NIF PRIZE 2022

·           The KamaladeviChattopadhyay NIF Book Prize 2022 was awarded to ‘The Chipko Movement: A People’s Movement’, a book on the popular forest conservation campaign Chipko Movement written by a historian and an activist ShekharPathak.

·           The book, ‘The Chipko Movement: A People’s Movement’, has been translated from Hindi by ManishaChaudhry.

·           TheChipko movement (or ChipkoAndolan) was a non-violent, social and ecological movement by rural villagers, particularly women that took place in 1973 in India.

 

7.         INDIA ASSUMES UN SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENCY FOR DECEMBER

·           India assumed the Presidency of the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) for the month of December, the second time in its two-year tenure as an elected member of the Council in 2021-22.

·           India had earlier assumed the UNSC Presidency in August 2021.

·           On 14th December 2022 The high-level open debate on the theme ‘Maintenance of International Peace and Security: New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism’ will be conducted, which will encourage the UN members to work on reforms in the current multilateral architecture with the UN at its centre.

·           On 15th December 2022, a high-level briefing on the theme ‘Threats to International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts: Global Approach to Counter Terrorism – Challenges and Way Forward’ will take place, which helps in building a consensus on the principles of a global counter-terror architecture.

8.         WORLD COMPUTER LITERACY DAY 2022 – DECEMBER 2

·           World Computer Literacy Day is annually observed on December 2 to raise public knowledge of computers and encourage the development of technological skills, particularly among children and women in India.

·           World Computer Literacy Day was established by an Indian computer company, the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), in 2001 to mark NIIT’s 20th anniversary.

 

9.         NATIONAL POLLUTION CONTROL DAY 2022 – DECEMBER 2

·           National Pollution Control Day is annually observed across India on December 2 to honour and commemorate the people who lost their lives in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy on the 2nd and 3rd of December 1984.

·           2nd December 2022 marks the 38th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

·           In India, air pollution is responsible for 7 million annual deaths, of which 4 million are caused by indoor air pollution.

·           India’s 1st major industrial disaster, the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, was a gas leak from the Union Carbide Plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on December 2nd and 3rd, 1984.

·           The insecticide plant owned by Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL), the Indian division of the American company Union Carbide Corporation, released about 45 tonnes of the hazardous chemical Methyl isocyanate (MIC).

·           Nearly 25000 people were killed and around 6 lakh victims sustained injuries.

 

10.      INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY 2022 – DECEMBER 2

·           United Nations (UN)’s International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is annually observed across the globe on December 2 to raise public awareness of the need to combat modern forms of slavery such as child labour, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation.

·           International Day for the Abolition of Slavery was declared to be observed on December 2 to mark the UNGA’s adoption of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others.
