1. APPLE ACQUIRES ISRAELI START-UP REAL FACE
i. An American multinational technology company Apple has announced to acquire Israel-based start-up “RealFace” for an undisclosed amount.
ii. This acquisition will help to add facial recognition to the upcoming Apple’s iPhone 8. Apple can use the technology from the Israeli start-up for its own facial recognition software.

2. IRAN LAUNCHES ADVANCED ROCKETS DURING MILITARY EXERCISES IN DESERT
i. The Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard launched sophisticated rockets during a military exercise in Iran’s central desert.
ii. The 3 day maneuvers called ‘Grand Prophet 11’.
iii. The launch comes despite warnings from the United States and the sanctions over the previous ballistic missile test.

3. SPACEX FALCON 9 ROCKET SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHES FROM NASA LAUNCH PAD
i. The California-based SpaceX onboard its Falcon 9 rocket launched a robotic Dragon cargo ship with about 5,500 pounds of supplies and science experiments toward the International Space Station Launch Complex 39A of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
ii. The rocket’s 1st stage separated and touched down on a landing pad at the nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
iii. It marked the 8th successful landing for SpaceX Rocket Company. The company became the 1st private space firm to launch a rocket from a NASA facility.

4. PAKISTAN CRICKET LEGEND SHAHID AFRIDI ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM INTERNATIONAL CRICKET
i. Legendary Pakistani cricket Shahid Afridi announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket putting an end to 21-year career.
ii. Afridi had already quit the Test and ODI cricket earlier but still continued with T20.
iii .The 36-year-old star played for Pakistan Twenty20 team at the 2016 world championships in India. After that he stepped down as the captain and continued to play as a player.

5. ARUNACHAL CM PEMA KHANDU INAUGURATES COMPOSITE REGIONAL CENTRE IN ITANAGAR
i. Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu in the presence of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Composite Regional Centre at Itanagar Banquet Hall, Arunachal Pradesh.
ii. Its aim is to create resources and infrastructure required for developing services for persons with disabilities. Total outlay for this project was Rs.20 Cr.
iii. The centre is established under the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India Kolkata of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.


6. RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD LAUNCHES CYBER SWACHHTA KENDRA IN NEW DELHI
i. Union Minister of Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad launched Cyber Swachhta Kendra in New Delhi for Botnet cleaning and Malware analysis as a psrt of digital India initiative.
ii. He also launched two mobile apps: Mkavach to protect smart phones and tablets from hackers and Samvid to protect Desktops from suspicious applications from running.
iii. Its aim is to create a secure cyber space by detecting botnet infections.
iv. Cyber Swachhta Kendra will operate in close coordination and collaboration with Antivirus companies and Internet Service Providers.

7. N CHANDRASEKARAN APPOINTED AS TCS CHAIRMAN
i. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has been appointed as the non-executive Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services.
ii. Rajesh Gopinathan is appointed as CEO and MD, V. Ramakrishnan as Chief Financial Officer and N. Ganapathy Subramaniam as Chief Operating Officer of TCS.
ii. BSR & Co LLP Chartered Accountants as its statutory auditors for five years till 2022, subject to the approval of shareholders.
iii. KPMG India Chartered Accountants to audit its financial statements under the International Financial Reporting Standards from fiscal 2017-18 to fiscal 2021-22.

8. INDIAN COAST GUARD OFFSHORE PATROL VESSEL COMMISSIONED IN GOA
i. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu commissioned the 4th ship of Indian Coast Guard named ‘Shaunak’, in the series of 6 offshore patrol vessels in Vasco, located in South Goa.
ii. The OPV measures 105-metre-long comes with state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machineries.
iii. Shaunak has been designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Ltd that can carry one twin engine light helicopter and five high speed boats.

9. HEALTH MINISTRY LAUNCHES ‘SAATHIYA KITS’ TO IMPROVE ADOLESCENT HEALTH
i. C.K. Mishra, Union Health Secretary has launched “Saathiya Resource Kits” that will provide information on adolescent related issues such as puberty and mental health among others.
ii. The resource kit comprises of Bhranti-Kranti Game, an Activity Book, a Question-Answer Saathiya Kits Book and a Peer Educator Diary.
iii. Mishra also launched the mobile app ‘Saathiya Salah‘ for adolescents.
iv. The initiative launched as part of the Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram program which was launched in January 2014 and also aims to bring down the apprehensions and doubts among growing adolescents about the body related changes that they undergo during puberty.
