LAW MINISTER RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD LAUNCHES PRO BONO SERVICES, NYAYA MITRA, LEGAL
AID SCHEMES
i.
Union Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad launched following 3 initiatives for
providing legal aid to marginalised and vulnerable communities:
ii.
Pro bono legal service is a web-based initiative through which lawyers who want
to volunteer for ‘pro bono’ services can register on the justice department
website: doj.gov.in.
iii.
‘Nyaya Mitra’ Scheme aims to reduce pendency in lower courts of selected
districts. Cases which have been pending for more than 10 years will be
accorded priority.
iv.
Tele Law litigants from marginalised communities can avail legal advice from
expert panel of lawyers stationed at State Legal Services Centres by video
conferencing through the common service centres.
2.
INDIA DEVELOPS NATIONAL ACTION PLAN TO COMBAT ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE
i.
‘Inter-Ministerial Consultation on Antimicrobial Resistance Containment’ was
held in New Delhi. At this meeting, J P Nadda, Union Health Minister announced
the finalization of India’s comprehensive and multi-sectoral National Action
Plan to combat Antimicrobial Resistance.
ii.
AMR is the evolutionary ability of microbes such bacteria, virus and parasite
to become resistant to medicines which treat the diseases caused by them.
iii.
‘Delhi Declaration’ for collectively strategizing to contain AMR was signed by
all the ministers present at the meeting.
i.
The National Disaster Management Authority has conducted first-of-its-kind
State-level mock exercise on forest fire in Uttarakhand.
ii.
It was conducted on the basis of principle of Incident Response System. It
identifies stakeholders and clearly attributes roles and responsibilities to
each one of them.
iii.
The exercise is significant as almost 70% State’s geographical area is under
forests and incidents of forest fires are commonplace.
iv.
The exercises were conducted in coordination with various agencies, such as
Army, fire, forest, health, police, National Disaster Response Force and State
Disaster Response Force and civil defense.
4.
AU FINANCIERS CONVERTS TO SMALL FINANCE BANK FROM A NBFC
i.
Au Financiers India is a non-banking finance company that has converted into a
small finance bank and called AU Small Finance.
ii.
AU got license from RBI on April 19 for the commencement of operations of this
small finance bank.
iii.
Au Financiers has engaged in the business of extending commercial/personal
vehicle loans, micro, small and medium enterprise loans and SME loans, serving
primarily the low-, middle-income, and under-served customer segments.
5.
INDIA AND REPUBLIC OF KOREA SIGN INTER GOVERNMENTAL MOU FOR DEFENCE
i.
India and the Republic of Korea have signed an Inter-governmental Memorandum of
Understanding for Defence Industry Co-operation in Shipbuilding.
ii.
The MoU was signed by Shri Ashok Kumar Gupta, Secretary (Defence Production)
and Minister of Defence Acquisition and Programme Administration Chang
Myoung-Jin.
iii.
It helps in Developing and strengthening defence industry co-operation between
Republic of India and the Republic of Korea.The MoU will help the Make in India
initiative of the Government of India.
6.
AAMIR KHAN AND KAPIL DEV TO GET DINANATH MANGESHKAR AWARD
i.
The Dinanath Mangeshkar Awards has been given to Actor Aamir Khan and cricketer
kapil dev. It is the 75th Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Award.
ii.
Kapil Dev will be honoured for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cricket
and Aamir Khan will be honoured with the Vishesh Puraskar for Best Film Dangal.
7.
GNFC WINS THE GOLDEN PEACOCK AWARD FOR INNOVATION OF CASHLESS TOWNSHIP
i.
The Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd won the prestigious
Golden Peacock Award.
ii.
Rajiv Kumar Gupta, the managing director of the GNFC, was given the award at
a ceremony at the 27th World Congress at
the Dubai Global Convention.
iii.
This award won in the category of Innovative Product/Service for pioneering a
cashless township transformation model.
8.
B.N. MOHAPATRA APPOINTED AS RAILWAY FINANCIAL COMMISSIONER
i.
B.N. Mohapatra has been appointed as the new Financial Commissioner of Indian
Railways.
ii.
Prior to this posting, B.N.Mohapatra was posted as Additional Member (Finance).
He is an officer of Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) – 1980 batch.
iii.
Mohapatra has worked on various higher and middle level management posts on the
Indian Railways like DRM/ Tinsukhia, NFR, Assistant General Manager on East
Coast Railway.
9.
CHINA LAUNCHES 1ST UNMANNED CARGO SPACECRAFT
i.
China has launched its 1st unmanned Cargo Spacecraft named Tianzhou 1.
ii.
It is programmed to conduct scientific experiments after reaching China’s 2nd
space station.
iii.
Powered by a Long March-7 Y2 carrier rocket Tianzhou-1 roared into the air from
the Wenchang Space centre in the Southern Hainan province.
iv.
China aims to build up permanent space station by 2022. China will become the
3rd country besides Russia and US to master the techniques of refueling in
Space.
