1.PFC GETS MAHARATNA STATUS

      Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC) was accorded the status of Maharatna central public sector enterprise (CPSE) by the Department of Public Enterprises, under the Ministry of Finance

      PFC is the largest infrastructure finance company exclusively dedicated to the power sector under the administrative control of the power ministry.

      With this, PFC can now invest up to Rs 5,000 crore, or 15 percent of its net worth, in a single project.

      PFC is 11th firm to join Maharatna CPSE club.

      The other 10 Maharatna CPSEs at present are Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd, Coal India Ltd, GAIL (India) Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd, Indian Oil Corp. Ltd, NTPC Ltd, Oil & Natural Gas Corp. Ltd, Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd, and Steel Authority of India Ltd.

      There are 14 Navratna and 73 Miniratna CPSEs.

      Navratna and Miniratna CPSEs can invest up to Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 500 crore, respectively.

 

2. GARBAGE FREE’ URBAN INDIA.

      The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) till 2025-26 with an outlay of Rs 1,41,600 crores.

      It will be regarded as SBM-Urban 2.0 with aim of ‘Garbage Free’ Urban India.

1. PM LAUNCHED INDIAN SPACE ASSOCIATION

      Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the Indian Space Association (ISpA), a private industry body to help boost space technology in India.

      ISpA will participate and work with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and other stakeholders of both government and its agencies, on the issue of policy around space domain and technology.

 

2. INDIAN NAVY TO HOST ITS LARGEST EXERCISE EX MILAN

      India’s largest Naval exercise, Ex Milan, was scheduled to be hosted by the Indian Navy in February 2022.

      46 countries have been invited to attend the exercise.

      The exercise will include the participation of all Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) countries.

      The Quad countries include India, USA, Australia, and Japan in which the USA is being invited for the 1st time.

      So far the exercise was conducted in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar and now, it is being shifted to Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

1.TATA SONS WON THE BID FOR ACQUIRING AIR INDIA FOR RS 18,000 CRORE

      Tata Sons Private Ltd subsidiary Talace Pvt Ltd has won the final bid for acquiring the national carrier Air India by submitting Rs 18,000 crore bid. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs  (CCEA) – empowered Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) approved the highest price bid of Talace Pvt Ltd.

      The bid involves sale of 100 percent stake AI (the shareholding of Government of India), 100 percent stake in AI’s subsidiary Air India Express (AIXL) and 50 percent in the joint venture Air India SATS (Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited ).

      The AISAM comprises Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah; Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman; Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

 

2.‘KARUPPUR KALAMKARI PAINTINGS’ FROM TAMIL NADU RECEIVES GI TAG

      Karuppur kalamkari paintings, Kallakurichi Wood carvings & Kanyakumari Clove were awarded with Geographical Indication (GI) tags.

      Karuppur Kalamkari paintings – They are Traditional dyed paintings made on pure cotton cloth, mainly used in temples for umbrella covers, cylindrical hangings, chariot covers.

      Kallakurichi Wood carvings – Traditional wood carvings that are indigenous art of Madurai

      Kanyakumari Clove – Known for its rich aromatic oil content

 

3.MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY INDEX (MPI) RELEASED BY UNDP & OPHI

      Analysis is produced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).

      India has a maximum number of people, 381 millions, living in multidimensional poverty.

      The Scheduled Tribe (ST) accounts for 9.4% of the population and is the poorest with 65 million of the 129 million people living in multidimensional poverty.

4.FOURTH BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY OF FY21-22

      The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 6-members Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) released its fourth bi-monthly monetary policy statement for FY22 (April 2021 – March 2022).

      Policy Rates: RBI kept the rates unchanged (maintains status quo) for the 8th consecutive time

      Growth: The MPC has retained India’s real gross domestic product (GDP) growth projection for FY22 at 9.5 %. Real GDP growth for Q1 FY23 is projected at 17.2 per cent.

      Inflation: Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation was projected at 5.3 percent in FY22, CPI inflation for Q1 FY23 was projected at 5.2 percent.

      Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decided to extend the on tap Special Long-Term Repo Operations (SLTRO) facility for small finance banks (SFBs) till December 31, 2021.

      RBI proposed to increase the per-transaction limit in Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) from Rs 2 lakh (effective from January 2014) to Rs 5 lakh for channels other than SMS and Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS).

1. EXERCISE JIMEX 2021

      The 5th edition of India-Japan Maritime Bilateral Exercise, ‘JIMEX 2021’ between Indian Navy (IN) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) is being held in Arabian Sea.

 

2. WATER SHORTAGE CAN HIT FIVE BILLION PEOPLE BY 2050

      The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warns that the number of people affected by water scarcity is expected to rise as climate change increases the global risk of water-related hazards like floods and droughts.

      According to the report ‘The State of Climate Services 2021: Water’, 3.6 billion people had inadequate access to water at least one month per year in 2018.

 

3.INDIA’S 1ST COF TOKENIZATION SERVICE FOR MERCHANTS

      Global payments technology firm, Visa in partnership with Juspay launched India’s 1st Card-on-File tokenization (CoFT) services for e-commerce players such as Grofers, BigBasket, and MakeMyTrip.

      Tokenization refers to the process of replacing the card’s actual sensitive information like card number, expiration date, security code with a unique alternate code called the ‘token’ to improve the safety and security of the payment system.

 

4.WORLD BANK RETAINED INDIA’S GDP GROWTH FORECAST

      World Bank released its report on South Asia Economic Focus titled ‘Shifting Gears: Digitization and Services-Led Development’ and has unchanged India’s GDP growth forecast for FY22 to 8.3 percent from its earlier estimate in June 2021.

      The United States(US)-India Business Council (USIBC) has presented the 2021 Global Leadership Humanitarian Awards to Julie Sweet, CEO and Chair of Accenture; Arvind Krishna, Chairman and CEO of IBM; and Brad Smith, President and Vice-Chair of Microsoft.

 

7.NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE 2021

      The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature to Abdulrazak Gurnah, a Tanzanian novelist based in the United Kingdom for his works on the effects of colonialism and fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents.

 

8.FIRST UN WORLD COTTON DAY – 7TH OCTOBER 2021

      7th October 2021 marks the observance of the first ever official United Nations(UN) World Cotton Day.

      According to the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), the event theme for 2021 World Cotton Day is ‘Cotton for Good’.

 

9.4TH TIGER RESERVE OF CHHATTISGARH

      The 11th Technical Committee of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has approved the proposal of the government of Chhattisgarh to declare the combined areas of the Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary and the Guru Ghasidas National Park as the 4th Tiger reserve of Chhattisgarh.

      The other tiger reserves of Chhattisgarh are Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, Indravati Tiger Reserves, and Amarkantak – Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary

 

10.EXERCISE AJEYA WARRIOR-2021

      The 6th Edition of India – UK (United Kingdom) Joint Company Level Military Training exercise Ajeya Warrior-2021 was commenced in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand.

      To strengthen bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries and develop inter-operability among them.

 

11.  TEXTILE MINISTRY SIGNS MOU WITH GERMANY

      India’s Ministry of Textiles (MoT) supported by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW) signed a MoU with Germany’s Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to implement projects on ‘Sustainability and Value Added in the Cotton Economy’.

      The agreement was signed on Implementation Agreement of Indo German Technical Cooperation Project.

      Target – The partnership targets to increase cotton production on 90,000 hectares of land in 4 States (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu) to increase the yield of Cotton by 10%, thereby supporting 1.5 lakh farmers.

 

12.TELANGANA CELEBRATED BATHUKAMMA FESTIVAL

      Bathukamma, a part of Dasara festivities, is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated predominantly in the state of Telangana and in some parts of Andhra Pradesh(AP).

      The Bathukamma festival celebrates the relationship between earth, water and the humans.

      Bathukamma means ‘Goddess of Life’.

 

13.UNESCO SOER REPORT 2021

      In accordance with the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) report titled ‘The report – 2021 State of the Education Report (SOER) for India: No Teachers, No Class’, Indian teachers are facing basic amenities like toilets in northeast and aspirational districts. There are disparities for the same between urban and rural schools.

 

14.SBI EXTENDS PARTNERSHIP WITH TCS

      State Bank of India (SBI) extended its partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for another five years. Under this partnership, SBI uses TCS BaNCS for which TCS maintain and enhance SBI’s application for core banking, trade finance, financial reporting, and financial inclusion.

 

15.PNB LAUNCHED ‘6S CAMPAIGN’

      Punjab National Bank (PNB) launched the “6S Campaign” under customer outreach programme to offer financial services at a concessional rate during festival season.

      The campaign encapsulates various schemes such as Swabhiman, Samruddhi, Sampark and Shikhar, Sankalp and Swagat.

 

16.TATA SONS WON BIDS TO ACQUIRE AIR INDIA

      Tata Sons Private Ltd subsidiary Talace Pvt Ltd has won the final bid for acquiring national carrier Air India by submitting Rs. 18,000 crore bid. The ministerial panel led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved the bid.

      The airline Air India was established by industrialist and philanthropist JRD Tata (India’s 1st licensed pilot) in 1932 as the Tata Airlines and it was sold to the government in 1953.

      Tata Power company Ltd has signed a 3-year commercial agreement with BluWave-ai, the world’s 1st renewable energy AI (Artificial Intelligence) company.

 

17.NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 2021

      The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize 2021 to Maria Ressa, journalist from Philippines and Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov, journalist from Russia for their efforts to protect the freedom of expression, the precondition of democracy and lasting peace.

      Maria Ressa is the 18th woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

 

18.HAL DELIVERS ‘SC120-LOX’ TO ISRO

      Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) delivered the ‘heaviest’ Semi-Cryogenic Propellant tank named ‘SC120-LOX’ to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

      It is a Semi Cryo-liquid Oxygen (LOX) tank, which will be a part of SC120 stage of ISRO’s GSLV Mark III launch vehicles, replacing the existing L110 stage.

 

19.89TH INDIAN AIR FORCE DAY

      Indian Air Force Day is annually observed across India on 8th October to increase awareness about the Indian Air Force, an organisation that works towards strengthening national security.

      The day marks the establishment of the Indian Air Force on 8th October 1932.

      The 2021 Indian Air Force Day is celebrated as “Swarnim Vijay Varsh”, commemorating the victory of the 1971 war.

 

20.INDIA’S FIRST SMARTPHONE-BASED EVOTING SOLUTION

      Telangana has developed the country’s first smartphone-based e-voting solution.

      It will be tested in a dummy election also, and a dry run will be held  in the  Khammam district of Telangana.

1. INDUSTRIAL PARKS RATING SYSTEM 2.0

      Minister of State (MoS) Som Prakash, Ministry of Commerce & Industry released the 2nd edition of Industrial Park Ratings System (IPRS) report or IPRS 2.0 Report in New Delhi.

      It should be noted that it is the first annual IPRS as the earlier one was a pilot phase conducted in 2018.

      In the report 41 Industrial Parks named as ‘Leaders’ category.

      These are mostly from Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

      90 Industrial Parks are marked as ‘Challenger’ while 185 have been rated under ‘Aspirers’.

 

2. PM MODI INAUGURATES AZADI@75 CONFERENCE

      Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Azadi@75 – New Urban India: Transforming Urban Landscape’ Conference-cum-Expo in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on October 05, 2021.

      During the expo, the Prime Minister virtually handed over keys of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) houses to 75,000 beneficiaries in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

 

3.2021 UNHCR NANSEN REFUGEE AWARD

      Jeel Albena Association for Humanitarian Development (JAAHD), a Yemeni humanitarian organization, has been declared the winner of the 2021 UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award.

      The winner of the award was announced by Filippo Grandi, Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Ameen Jubran, Founder of Jeel Albena, received the award on behalf of Jeel Albena.

 

4.2021 NOBEL PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY

      The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to German chemist Benjamin List and British chemist David W.C. MacMillan for the development of a precise new and ingenious tool for molecular construction: asymmetric organocatalysis.

      The Nobel Prize carries a gold medal and a cash prize of 10 million Swedish kronor (around Rs 8.5 crore) which will be shared equally between the laureates.

 

5.FIRST AIRBUS OPERATOR TO START TAXIBOT SERVICES

      AirAsia India has become the first Airbus operator in the world to start Taxibot services with passengers on board with a modified Airbus fleet.

      It has announced the implementation of an Alternate Taxiing Solution (ATS), TaxiBot.

      The airline has tied up with KSU Aviation, the exclusive operator of the TaxiBot in India.

      Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) was the first airport in the world that introduced Taxibot.

 

6.INDIA’S FIRST E-FISH MARKET APP ‘FISHWAALE’

      Assam Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya launched India’s first e-Fish market application named ‘Fishwaale’.

      The app was developed by Aqua Blue Global Aquaculture Solutions Pvt Ltd, in collaboration with the Assam fisheries department.

      It will provide a boost to Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

      The 8th Edition of India-Sri Lanka bilateral joint Military Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti – 2021’ was scheduled to be conducted at Combat Training School, Ampara, Sri Lanka.

      The exercise doesn’t take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19.

 

2. NEW GI TAGS

      Alibaug White Onion & Wada Kolam Rice of Maharashtra, Edayur Chilli and Kuttiattoor Mango of Kerala and Chinnor rice of Madhya Pradesh (MP) got the GI Tag.

      GI tag in India is governed by Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999.

      It is issued by the Geographical Indications Registry (Chennai).

 

3. WORLD’S LARGEST FINTECH FESTIVAL GFF 2021

      India hosted the 2nd edition of Global FinTech Festival (GFF) 2021, the World’s largest virtual fintech festival from September 28 to 30, 2021.

1.PPC 2021

      Union Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Giriraj Singh launched the People’s Plan Campaign (PPC) 2021- Sabki Yojana Sabka Vikas and Vibrant Gram Sabha Dashboard.

      PPC-2021 is a strategy for ensuring the preparation of GPDP (Gram Panchayat Development Plan) in a campaign mode.

      PPC 2021 meetings will be rolled out from October 2, 2021, to January 31, 2022.

 

2.2ND PHASES OF SWACHH BHARAT MISSION-URBAN

      PM Narendra Modi launched the second phase of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U 2.0) and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0).

      The SBM-U 2.0 aims to make cities completely ‘free of garbage’ and ensure grey and black water management in all cities other than those covered under AMRUT.

      The outlay of SBM-U 2.0 is around Rs 1.41 lakh crore.

      AMRUT 2.0 intends to improve sewage and septic management, making the cities into water safe cities and ensuring that no sewage drains anywhere in rivers.

      It will benefit more than 10.5 crore people in urban areas and the outlay of AMRUT 2.0 is around Rs 2.87 lakh crore.

 

3.NUTRITIONAL PROFILE FOR 19 STATES AND UTS

      NITI Aayog, in a joint effort with International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Indian Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS), UNICEF and Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) launched ‘The State Nutrition Profile’ for 19 States and Union Territories.

 

4.NAMAMI GANGE PROGRAMME’S MASCOT

      The Union government unveils Chacha Chaudhary, a popular comic book character, as a mascot for ‘Namami Gange Programme’, for sensitising children and youths about the cleaning of Ganga and other rivers during the 37th executive committee meeting of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) which was chaired by Director General Rajiv Ranjan Mishra.

      Public engagement activities like ‘Ganga ki Baat, Chacha Choudhary Ke Sath’ will be initiated with the character.

      Chacha Chaudhary character was created by cartoonist Pran Kumar Sharma in 1971 for the Hindi magazine Lotpot.

 

5.ADANI GROUP TO DEVELOP SRILANKA’S PORT

      Adani group signed a more than $700-million build-operate-transfer agreement with the Sri Lankan government-owned Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and John Keells Holdings (from Sri Lanka) for 35 years to jointly develop a Colombo Western Container Terminal (WCT).

      Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) Limited is the largest developer and operator company in India which holds 24 percent of the overall port capacity in India.

 

6.BLOOMBERG BILLIONAIRES INDEX

      According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a daily ranking of the world’s richest people, as of 28th September 2021, with a total net worth of 213 billion USD, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla has overtaken Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon,(total net worth of 197 billion USD) to become the world’s richest person.

      Elon Musk gained 13 billion USD in net worth with a rise in the share price of tesla.

      Mukesh Ambani Topped among Indians & ranked 11th globally.

 

7.BRAND AMBASSADOR OF UP GOVT  ‘ODOP’ SCHEME

      The government of Uttar Pradesh (UP)  appointed Indian actor Kangana Ranaut as the brand ambassador of its ” one district-one product” programme (ODOP).

      The ODOP aims to create product-specific traditional industrial hubs across 75 districts of the state.

      It facilitates development of ingenious and specialized products and crafts of UP that are not found anywhere else.

      Under the initial phase of the ODOP programme, 106 Products have been identified from 103 districts across 27 States.

 

8.CENTRE APPOINTS BC PATNAIK MD OF LIC

      The Union government appoints BC Patnaik Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on October 1, 2021.

      Currently, LIC has one chairman and four Managing Directors.

 

9.ISRO’S FIRST DEMAND-DRIVEN COMMUNICATION SATELLITE

      The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) commercial arm, New Space India Limited (NSIL) announced its first ‘demand-driven’ communication satellite mission as part of Space reforms announced by the government in June 2020.

      As part of this initiative, NSIL is undertaking its 1st demand driven communication satellite mission named GSAT-24, a four-tonne class Ku- band satellite.

      The entire satellite will be leased to Tata Sky for meeting their DTH application needs.
