SBI INCORPORATES WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY FOR PREMISES AND ESTATE MATTERS OF SBI
i. The
State Bank of India has legally incorporated SBI Infra Management Solutions
Pvt. Ltd. as a wholly owned subsidiary of SBI. SBIIMS Pvt. Ltd. will now manage
the premises and estate related matters of SBI.
ii. The
new subsidiary will save the time of bank employees who earlier performed these
non-core functions. Now these employees can handle the core functions of the
bank and increase the efficiency.
iii. SBIIMS
Pvt. Ltd. will handle the advisory services, transaction management, facility
management and implementation of policies and initiatives.

2017 ASSEMBLY ELECTION RESULTS OF UTTAR PRADESH, UTTARAKHAND, PUNJAB, GOA AND
MANIPUR
i. The Assembly Elections in the 5 states- Uttarakhand,
Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab and Manipur were considered the first big test for
the BJP after PM Narendra Modi’s demonetisation drive, which wiped out 86% of
currency from the nation’s economy.
ii. While the PM Narendra Modi led BJP got a majority win in
Uttar Pradesh which is considered as one of India’s most electorally crucial
states, and snatched Uttarakhand from Congress, it suffered a loss in Punjab
where its alliance with SAD was voted out of power.
iii. Bhartiya Janta Party emerged victorious in state
election of Uttar Pradesh.
iv. The BJP performed far better than expected to win 57 of
the 70 constituencies in Uttarakhand.
v. Congress’ candidates have won in 77 seats in the 117
member Punjab Assembly to get a majority win.

ARUNACHAL PRADESH FINANCE MINISTER PRESENTS RS 285 CR DEFICIT BUDGET FOR
2017-18
i. The Arunachal Pradesh Finance Minister Chowna Mein
presented an Rs 285 cr deficit budget for the 2017-18 fiscal in the state
Assembly with focus on women empowerment, infrastructure development and law
& order.
ii. The budget focuses on infrastructure development
particularly road, employment and skill development, health and education
sectors, law and order, women empowerment, rural economy.
iii. In the budget estimate of 2017-18, the state is
projecting a revenue receipt of Rs 14,599 cr and a capital receipt of Rs
1,436.75 cr. This is an increase of over 15% from the budget estimates of
2016-17.
iv. The share of central taxes has been pegged at Rs
9,306.34 cr. The state’s own tax revenue is projected at Rs 742.94 cr and the
non-tax revenue for 2017-18 at Rs 536.29 cr.
v. Arunachal Pradesh has announced to launch E-Office to
move towards digitalization.
vi. JanDhan Accounts, Aadhar Card will be linked to provide
citizen services, moving towards a cashless and paperless economy.
3.
INDIA’S LARGEST FLOATING SOLAR PV PLANT INSTALLED BY NTPC IN KERALA
i. State-run National Thermal Power Corporation Limited has
installed India’s largest floating Solar Photovoltaic Plant at Rajiv Gandhi
Combined Cycle Power Plant at Kayamkulam in Kerala.
ii. The 100 kWp floating solar generation plant has been
indigenously developed as a part of ‘Make in India’ initiative.
iii. The Solar panels are mounted on floating boards that
hold them in place. Installing solar panels in water bodies saves land as well
as are more efficient than the ones installed on land.
iv. These floating platform were indigenously developed by
NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance, the R&D arm of NTPC in
collaboration with Central Institute of Plastic Engineering & Technology,
Chennai and a patent has been applied for.
v. The system was installed by Swelect Energy Systems Ltd,
Chennai with support from NETRA & NTPC Kayamkulam station in a short span
of 22 days.
4.
GERMANY’S KFW SIGNED LOAN AGREEMENT WITH EESL AND SBI
i. The German Development Bank and Uttar Pradesh based
Energy Efficiency Services Limited has signed a loan agreement for €200 million
with a 4 year moratorium and a 12-year repayment period.
ii. This funds will be utilised for the planned expansion
across all its portfolios of energy efficient products and services.
iii. Mumbai based State Bank of India also signed an
agreement with German KfW Development Bank for USD 274 million loan facility a
maturity of 15 years to finance affordable housing segment in India.

PRESIDENT OF INDIA INAUGURATES THE 12TH CII-EXIM BANK CONCLAVE ON INDIA AFRICA
PROJECT PARTNERSHIP
i. President Pranab
Mukherjee has inaugurated the 2 day 12th CII-EXIM Bank Conclave on India Africa
Project Partnership in New Delhi. The first conclave has held in 2005.
ii. The Conclave was
organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry in partnership with the EXIM
Bank of India with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs and the
Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
iii. Its objective is to
discuss cooperation in Trade, Regional Integration & Infrastructure
Development, Finance & Consultancy, Mining & Minerals, Agriculture
& Agro-Processing, Power & Alternative Energy, Healthcare, Small &
Medium Enterprises, Human Capital Development and People-to-People Contacts

UJJIVAN SMALL FINANCE BANK OPENS 6 NEW BRANCHES IN BENGALURU
i. Ujjivan Small Finance
Bank has opened its 6 new branches at the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru
said by Samit Ghosh, MD & CEO, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.
ii. 6 new branches are
located at Magadi Road, Chamarajpet, Chandra Layout, Uttarahalli, Devaiah Park
and Nelamangala.
iii. The bank is also
planning to open 12 more branches in the city across 24 States in a planned and
phased manner.
3.
RBI RESTRICTS CASH LOAN AGAINST GOLD BY NBFC TO RS 25,000
i. The Reserve Bank of
India has amended the provision for disbursement of loan by NBFC against the
gold in line with the provisions of the Income Tax Act.
ii. As per the new
provision, the Non-banking Financial Company cannot lend more than Rs 25,000 in
cash against gold as against the earlier Rs 1 lakh.
iii. The earlier provision
for NBFC was that high value loans against gold of Rs 1 lakh and above must
only be disbursed by cheque.
4.
DONALD TUSK RE-ELECTED AS EUROPEAN COUNCIL PRESIDENT
i. Former Polish Prime
Minister Donald Tusk was re-elected as the president of the European Council
for the 2nd time.
ii. Tusk will act as the
president of EU council until the end of 2019.He has been President of the
European Council since 1 December 2014.
iii. Prior to this, he was
the PM of Poland and a co-founder and chairman of the Civic Platform party.

1. 10TH
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THEORY AND PRACTICE OF ELECTRONIC GOVERNANCE HELD
IN NEW DELHI
i. The 10th
edition of the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic
Governance was held in New Delhi.
ii. Theme
for this year was “Building Knowledge Societies: From Digital Government to
Digital Empowerment”.
iii. Its
objective is to ICEGOV 2017 focused on the use of technology to transform
relationships between government and citizens, businesses & civil society.
iv. The
ICEGOV 2017 was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Electronics & IT and
Law & Justice Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad.
v. The
ICEGOV 2018 will be held in Galway, Ireland.

VASUNDHARA RAJE PRESENTED RS.1,66,000-CR RAJASTHAN BUDGET 2017-18
i. Rajasthan
CM Vasundhara Raje who also holds the Finance portfolio, presented
Rs.1,66,000-cr state budget for 2017-18 in the Legislative Assembly with focus
on aiding farmers and promoting tourism in the state.
ii. The
Budget is based on the government’s vision document mission 2020. It aims at a
happy Rajasthan and a happy Rajasthani.
iii.
Estimated Revenue Deficit for 2017-18 without effect of UDAY is Rs. 1528 c. And
with effect of UDAY is Rs. 13528 cr.
iv.
Estimated Fiscal Deficit for 2017-18 is Rs. 24753.53 cr which is 2.99% of GSDP.
Estimated total revenue receipts for 2017-18 Rs. 130162 cr. Estimated own tax
revenue for 2017-18 Rs. 59455 cr which is higher by 16.16%.
v. Estimated
own tax revenue for 2017-18 was 8.34% of GSDP.
3. TAMIL
NADU CM PALANISWAMI LAUNCHES RS 1580 CR HOUSING SCHEME
i. The Tamil
Nadu CM K Palaniswami launched a Housing Scheme for construction of concrete
houses for the economically poor section of the society.
ii. The
project is estimated at Rs 1,580 cr and will be implemented by the state
government with financial assistance from the Center.
iii. For the
current fiscal 2016-17, concrete houses will be constructed for 50,170
beneficiaries in town panchayat limits.
4. MEGA
CULTURAL FESTIVAL ‘INDIA BY THE NILE’ BEGINS IN EGYPT
i. The 5th
edition of the mega cultural festival ‘India by the Nile’ began in Cairo,
Egypt. It is the largest foreign festival in Egypt.
ii. The IBN
Festival is organized by India to showcase Indian culture, dance, arts music,
theatre, food, cuisine and Yoga & wellbeing to build a long lasting
relationship between the two ancient civilizations.
iii. The
festival started off at the foot of the Pyramids with ‘Crafts Mela’ showcasing
the joint handicraft exhibition of India and Egypt.
iv. The
exhibition is organized in partnership with the Indian Ministry of Textile;
Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, the Egyptian Ministry of Solidarity
and the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
v. The main
focus of 2017 Nile Festival is on the youth of both countries. A special match
between India’s under-16 football team and Egypt’s under-16 national team will
be held to reflect the agenda.

KARNATAKA CM SIDDARAMAIAH LAUNCHES ‘PRATIBIMBA” TO PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS
i. Karnataka
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a comprehensive web-based platform
Pratibimba to showcasing the government’s performance and achievements to the
citizens.
ii. This
dash board will serve as a tool to improve efficiency in governance and allow
citizens to track government’s progress.
iii. After
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka has such dash board which will help to report, track
and measure departmental performance on programmes, projects and promises made.
2. MOBILE
WORLD CONGRESS TO BE HELD IN INDIA ON SEPTEMBER 27
i. India to
host its 1st mobile congress with a special focus on reaching out to the South
East Asian markets at Pragati Maidan. This was announced by COAI Director
General, Rajan S Mathews.
ii. The the
3-day event will be organised by GSM Association.
iii. All
Indian mobile operators, Facebook, Huawei, Ericsson, and Cisco are likely to
participate in the mobile congress.
3. PM
MODI INAUGURATES PETROCHEMICALS COMPLEX AT DAHEJ & EXTRADOSED BRIDGE ACROSS RIVER
NARMADA AT BHARUCH IN GUJARAT
i. PM
Narendra Modi was on a 2 day visit to his native state Gujarat. During his
visit, PM Modi dedicated a 4-lane 1.4-kilometre ‘Extradosed’ Cable-Stayed
Bridge over the river Narmada in Bharuch.
ii. The
bridge has been built by Turbo and Larsen at a cost of Rs. 379 cr in the time
span of two years.
iii. The
Bharuch Bridge has 17.4-metre wide 4-lane road and the footpath on the bridge
is 3 metres long. The Bharuch Bridge is expected to reduce the heavy traffic
from Ahmedabad-Mumbai section of National Highway-8 which is considered to be
the busiest national highways in the country.
iv. PM Modi
also dedicated ONGC Petro Additions Ltd Petrochemicals Complex at Dahej
(Bharuch, Gujarat) to the nation.
v. OPAL is a
Joint Venture Company promoted by GAIL, ONGC and GSPC for an integrated
petrochemical complex in Special Economic Zone under Petroleum, Chemical and
Petrochemical Investment Region at Dahej, Gujarat.
vi. Besides,
Modi also inaugurated a national convention of women sarpanch on the occasion
of International Women’s Day in Gandhinagar.
4.
DESTINATION NORTH EAST 2017 FESTIVAL HELD IN CHANDIGARH
i. The 3 day
long ‘Destination North East-2017’ festival was inaugurated in Chandigarh by
the Union Minister of State (I/C) for Development of North Eastern Region, Dr.
Jitendra Singh.
ii. The
‘Destination North East-2017’ was organized by Ministry of DoNER to showcase
North East as a potential destination for investment and highlight the rich
traditions and customs of the region.
iii. The
main focus of the event was the ‘3 H Mission’ that is Handicraft, Horticulture
and Handlooms with the objective to use appropriate technologies in all sectors
of development for North Eastern Region
iv. Among
the main highlights of Destination North East, 2017, round table discussions,
sessions and B2B meeting was organized.

i. The
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the PM Shri Narendra Modi
approved the proposal for revival of 50 under-served/un-served
airports/airstrips of the State Governments, Airports Authority of India and
Civil enclaves.
ii. The
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has also approved the Revised Cost
Estimate-I of 400 MW Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project in Uttarakhand.
iii. The
Cabinet gave its ex-post facto approval for the Memorandum of Understanding
between India and Portugal on cooperation in the field of IT&E which was
signed on January 6 in New Delhi.
iv. The Cabinet
has also given its approval for India’s accession to the Customs Convention on
International Transport of Goods under cover of TIR Carnets and for completion
of necessary procedures for ratification, for its entry into force.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON JAL KRANTI ABHIYAN BEGINS IN NEW DELHI
i. A day
long National conference on Jal Kranti Abhiyan was inaugurated by Union
Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Sushri
Uma Bharti, in New Delhi.
ii. Jal
Kranti Abhiyan was launched on June 05,2015 by Uma Bharti with 4 important
components: Development of Model Command Area, Jal Gram Yojana, Pollution
Abatement and Mass Awareness Programme.
ii. Its
objective is to strengthening grass root involvement of all stakeholders
including Panchayati Raj institutions and local bodies for Participatory
Irrigation Management.

CHHATTISGARH CM RAMAN SINGH PRESENTS RS 76,032 CR BUDGET FOR 2017-18
i.
Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh presented the annual budget of Rs 76,032 cr for
2017-18 in the state legislative assembly. The main focus of the budget is on
digital inclusion and infrastructure development and on welfare of poorest of
poor and inclusive growth.
ii. The
estimated expenditure is 7.58% higher than the revised estimate of 2016-17. The
revenue surplus is estimated at Rs 4,781 cr, the Gross fiscal deficit is
estimated at Rs 9,647 cr, which is 3.49% of the GSDP.
iii. The
budget allocates 36% of expenditure for the development of scheduled tribe
sector and 12% for the scheduled caste sector.
iv. The
social sector expenditure is estimated at 41% and economic sector expenditure
is 38% of the total expenditure.
v.
Allocation for agriculture has been increased by 26% to Rs. 10,434 cr.
Irrigation facilities: Rs. 5243 cr, . Organic Farming Mission: Rs. 25 cr,
Divyang (specially-abled people) college at a cost of Rs 2.56 cr will be set up
at Raipur for educational upliftment of special children

INDO-NEPAL JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE ‘SURYA KIRAN-XI’ BEGINS IN UTTARAKHAND
i. The
2-week long India-Nepal joint military exercise ‘Surya Kiran-Xi‘begins in
Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
ii. Its aim
is to train both the troops in the area of various counter insurgency
operations over a prolonged period.
iii. It will
also focus on other important aspects such as humanitarian assistance and
disaster relief operations and environmental conservation.
