1.‘TERMS OF REFERENCE’ TO CONDUCT NAVY TO NAVY TALKS

      Indian Navy signed the ‘Terms of Reference’ (ToR) with the Royal Australian Navy to conduct Navy to Navy (N2N) talks under the framework of the ‘Joint Guidance for the India – Australia Navy to Navy Relationship’ document signed by the Navies in August.

      Notably, this is the 1st time the Indian Navy has signed such an agreement with another country.

      Note – In 2020, Australia participated in the annual maritime exercise – ‘Malabar’ between India, Japan & USA, for the first time in 13 years.

 

2.IFSCA SET UP 10-MEMBER EXPERT PANEL

      The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) set up an expert panel headed by former Environment and Forest Secretary C K Mishra to suggest a framework to develop a world-class sustainable finance hub at IFSC.

      IFSCA has constituted a 10-member Expert Committee to recommend approach towards development of Sustainable Finance Hub.

 

3.INDIA BECOMES LARGEST BENEFICIARY OF AIIB

      The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will provide loan assistance of USD 356.67 million(~Rs.2.65 lakh Crore) for the expansion of Chennai Metro Rail system, Tamil Nadu (TN), India.

      With this Investment, AIIB has invested a total of USD 6.7 billion making India its largest beneficiary.

 

4.IIFL WEALTH HURUN INDIA RICH LIST 2021

      Hurun India and IIFL Wealth had jointly released the ranking report ‘IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021’,a 10th annual ranking of the richest individuals in India.

      Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries(RIL) tops the list for 10th consecutive year.

      Ambani was followed by Gautam Adani, Adani Group, and Shiv Nadar of HCL for the second and third spot of the 2021 list.

      The Hurun’s 10th year anniversary logo is inspired by the Sanskrit word “Veerya”,meaning energy.

      Shashvat Nakrani from New Delhi, 23, of Payment App Bharatpe is the youngest self-made individual.

 

5.NEW MD & CEO OF NSDL

      Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) gave approval for the appointment of Padmaja Chunduru as the new Managing Director (MD) & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). She will succeed GV Nageswara Rao after his superannuation.

 

6.NBA NAMES RANVEER SINGH AS BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR INDIA

      The National Basketball Association (NBA) named Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh as the NBA Brand Ambassador for India to help grow the league’s profile in India throughout its landmark 75th Anniversary Season in 2021-22.

1. EXPERT GROUP FOR MINIMUM WAGES RECONSTITUTED

      Barely three months after the committee was set up, the Labour Ministry reconstituted the expert group responsible for determining the national floor level minimum wages under the Code on Wages.

      Economist and statistician SP Mukherjee will lead the 9-member group.

      In January 2019, the seven-member committee suggested a national minimum wage at Rs 375 per day or Rs 9,750 per month irrespective of sectors, skills, occupations and rural-urban locations.

 

2. INDIA EXPORT INITIATIVE AND INDIAXPORTS 2021 PORTAL

      The Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Narayan Tatu Rane virtually inaugurated the India Export Initiative and SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) Forum’s portal IndiaXports 2021 India  in New Delhi.

      It will enhance the exports and ensure localisation.

      It will work as a global manufacturing powerhouse by improving India’s manufacturing base.

 

3. ATAL COMMUNITY INNOVATION CENTER LAUNCHED

      India’s 1st Atal Community Innovation Center (ACIC) launched at Vivekananda Global University (VGU), Jaipur, Jagatpura, Rajasthan.

      It will be set up by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and NITI Aayog.

 

4. ‘DIGITAL QUALITY OF LIFE INDEX 2021

      India was positioned at an overall rank of 59th among 110 countries in the 3rd edition of ‘Digital Quality of Life Index (DQL) 2021’ prepared by cybersecurity company ‘Surfshark’.

      This is 2 positions lower than the 57th rank secured by India in the 2020 Index.

      For the 2nd consecutive time, Denmark topped the ranking, followed by South Korea & Finland in 2nd & 3rd positions.

      Note – India shares 49th rank along with Thailand, in the ‘2021 Inclusive Internet Index’ by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), where the ranking was topped by Sweden.

 

5. RBI TAKES IOB OUT OF PCA FRAMEWORK

      Reserve Bank of India (RBI) removed Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) from the Prompt Corrective Action Framework (PCAF) as the performance of bank is compliant with the PCA parameters.

      With this, IOB committed to comply with the norms of Minimum Regulatory Capital, Net NPA (non-performing assets) and leverage ratio on an ongoing basis.

      Currently, Central Bank of India is the only lender under the RBI’s PCA framework.

 

6. SURYODAY SFB TO SHUT DOWN ITS ATMS

      Suryoday Small Finance Bank (SFB) is set to shut down its Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and discontinue its ATM services from 1st October 2021.

      The customers can use their ATM or Debit card at other Banks’ ATMs to withdraw cash and for other services, the customers can use internet banking and mobile banking.

      Suryoday SFB has become the first lender to discontinue its ATM services.

 

7.2021 RIGHT LIVELIHOOD AWARD

      Delhi-based environmental organisation Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE) has won the 2021 Right Livelihood Award, for empowering communities in areas ranging from child protection to environmental defence.

      The award is also known as Sweden’s alternative Nobel Prize given by the Swedish Right Livelihood Foundation.

 

8. NEW PM OF JAPAN

      Former Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida(64 years old) has been elected as the president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party(LDP) and set to become the next and the 100th Prime Minister(PM) of Japan.

      He will be succeeding Yoshihide Suga, who stepped down as Japan’s PM.

 

9. NORTH KOREA TEST-FIRED HWASONG-8

      The North Korean Academy of National Defense Science has test-fired a newly-developed hypersonic missile, ‘the Hwasong-8’.

      Hwasong series missiles used liquid-propellant engines with an ampoule fuel system.

      North Korea has used the ampoule fuel system for the 1st time.

 

10.2021 OSTRAVA OPEN WOMEN’S DOUBLES TITLE

      Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Shuai Zhang won the 2021 Ostrava Open women’s doubles title by defeating the pair of Kaitlyn Christian and Erin Routliffe in the women’s doubles final of the Ostrava Open held in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

 

11. BOOK- “JUNGLE NAMA: A STORY OF THE SUNDARBAN”

      “Jungle Nama: a story of the Sundarban” authored by Jnanpith Awardee Amitav Ghosh has been released as an audiobook voiced by Ali Sethi, US-based Singer-writer, who has also created the background music and ambient sound for the audiobook.

 

12. INTERNATIONAL TRANSLATION DAY 2021 – SEPTEMBER 30

      The United Nations (UN)’s International Translation Day is annually observed across the globe on September 30th as a tribute to the language professionals.

      The theme of  2021 is “United In Translation”, which was chosen by the International Federation of Translators(FIT- Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs).

 

13. WORLD MARITIME DAY 2021 – SEPTEMBER 30

      The United Nations (UN)’s World Maritime Day (WMD) is annually observed across the globe during the last Thursday of September to recognise the contribution of the international maritime industry towards the world’s economy and sustainable development.

      The day is annually observed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

      The theme of 2021 is “Seafarers at the core of shipping’s future”.

1. NEW GI TAG FOR PRODUCTS

      Sojat Mehndi from Rajasthan, known for its medicinal values has received the geographical indication (GI) tag.

      From the North East States, the traditional brew of Dimasa community, Judima from Assam and Naga Cucumber known for its high potassium content also bagged GI tags.

 

2. AYUSHMAN BHARAT DIGITAL MISSION

      The PM Narendra Modi launched ‘Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’ (ABDM) via video conference.

      The program was organized on World Tourism Day.

      It was launched in the presence of Mansukh Mandaviya.

      Digital infrastructure of India-It is based on the principle of bringing from ration to administration (Ration to Prashasan) to the citizens in a fast and transparent manner.

      The mission was launched under the pilot project National Digital Health Mission (NDHM).

      Currently, over 1 lakh unique Health IDs have been created under the NDHM  this project is being implemented in the pilot phase across six states and Union Territories on a pilot basis on 15th August, 2020.

 

3. WORLD’S HIGHEST EV CHARGING STATION

      The world’s highest Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station was inaugurated at 500 feet in Kaza, in the Spiti Valley, Lahaul and Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh.

      The charging station will support all EV Scooters and cars.

      The EV charging facility was installed by goEgo Network, a Pune-based EV Charging infra startup.

 

4. PM NARENDRA MODI’S VISIT TO USA

      PM Narendra Modi visited the United States of America (USA) from 22 to 25 September 2021 and participated in the 1st in-person QUAD Leaders’ Summit in Washington D.C., the USA, along with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and US President Joe Biden.

 

5. LUNAR CRATER NAMED AFTER MATTHEW HENSON

      The International Astronomical Union(IAU) has named a crater at the Moon’s south pole after Matthew Henson, an African-American Arctic explorer, who was the 1st person to stand at the very top of the world.

      Henson crater is located in the South Pole of the Moon, between Sverdrup and de Gerlache craters.

 

6. F1 DRIVER IN HISTORY TO SEAL 100 WINS

      Lewis Hamilton sets a new record by registering his 100th win after finishing first in Russian Grand Prix held at Sochi Autodrom in Russia on September 28.

      With this win, Hamilton became the first Formula-one driver in the history to reach 100 wins.

      Max Verstappen finished second.

 

7. BOOK-THE BATTLE OF REZANG LA

      ‘The Battle of Rezang La’, a book which describes the story of 120 soldiers who put up a strong fight against the 5,000 Chinese military troop in the 1962 Indi-China war, preventing a possible occupation of the Ladakh region.

      The book was published by Penguin Veer and written by ex-naval officer and author Kulpreet Yadav.

 

8. WORLD RIVERS DAY 2021 – SEPTEMBER 26

      World Rivers Day is annually observed across the globe on the fourth Sunday of September to create awareness about water bodies and to promote the conservation of water bodies across the globe.

      World Rivers Day 2021 was observed on 26th September 2021.

 

9. WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DAY 2021

      World Environmental Health Day (WEHD) is annually observed across the globe on September 26 to create awareness about the health of the environment.

      The theme of WEHD 2021 is “Prioritizing Environmental Health for healthier communities in global recovery”.

      Background:

      The World Environmental Health Day was launched by the International Federation of Environmental Health council during the meeting held in Indonesia on 26th September 2011.

      The first ever World Environment Health Day was observed on 26th September 2011.

 

10. WORLD TOURISM DAY – 27 SEPTEMBER

      The United Nations(UN)’s World Tourism Day(WTD) is annually observed across the globe on 27th September to create awareness about the importance of tourism

      The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has designated World Tourism Day 2021 as a day to focus on “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” .

 

11. SWACHH SURVEKSHAN 2022

      Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, launched the 7th consecutive edition of Swachh Survekshan (SS)-2022 themed on ‘People First’ from New Delhi.

      SS 2022 has incorporated specific indicators focusing on frontline workers like improvement in their working conditions and livelihood opportunities.

      MoHUA also released a coffee table book titled ‘A Change of Heart’ featureing inspirational stories of individuals and communities related to urban India’s cleanliness drive.

 

12. SUSTAINABLE FINANCE ROAD MAP

      The government of India has set up a task force under Ajay Seth, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, to strengthen the road map to enhance the sustainable finance architecture of India.

 

13. INDIA’S 1ST SPORTS ARBITRATION CENTRE

      Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated India’s 1st ‘Sports Arbitration Centre of India’ (SACI) in Gujarat.

      The SACI will serve as an independent body to redress the disputes in the sports sector and expand the country’s sports sector.

      The Ministry of Law and Justice will provide all the legal backing to the SACI.

 

14. GOVERNMENT SET UP IDRCL TO CLEAR NPAS

      The government has set up the India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL), an asset management company (AMC) that will work with the National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL)/Bad Bank to clean up bad loans (i.e Non-Performing Assets (NPAs)).

      Objective: To carry out all kinds of debt management, operational management, resolution advisory, support, and consultancy services in relation to debt resolution, and insolvency resolution.

      IDRCL was set up with a paid-up capital of Rs 80.5 lakh on an authorized capital of Rs 50 crore.

      Canara Bank is the sponsor bank.

 

15. GOVT DISSOLVES ORDNANCE FACTORY BOARD

      As part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) to corporatize the production in Defence sector, Defence Ministry of India had dissolved the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).

      As per the announcement issued by the Government of India on May 16,2020, the management, control, operations and maintenance of 41 production units and identified non-production units under OFB will be transferred to the wholly government owned seven defence PSUs (Public Sector Units) with effect from October 1,2021.

SEVEN NEW COMPANIES ARE:

      Troop Comforts Ltd. and Gliders India are reorganised for manufacturing textiles.

      Munitions India Ltd., India Optel Ltd., Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd., Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd., and Yantra India Ltd. are into manufacturing machinery and equipment.

 

16. INDIA’S 1ST PLATFORM TO ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL REMITTANCES DIRECTLY INTO DIGITAL WALLET

      Paytm Payments Bank has partnered  with Ria Money Transfer, a cross-border money transfer firm and a business segment of Euronet.

      It will facilitate users to receive money from their relatives abroad.

      With this partnership, Paytm Payment Bank becomes the first digital wallet in India to accept deposits from international remittances while Ria Money Transfer has become the first money transfer company that will connect with 333 million Paytm’s wallet users.

 

17. DRDO SUCCESSFULLY FLIGHT-TESTED ‘AKASH PRIME’

      Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested the new version of Akash Missile namely ‘Akash Prime’ from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha.

      Akash Prime is a medium-range mobile surface-to-air missile (SAM) system developed by the DRDO and produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).

 

18. U.S. SUCCESSFULLY FLIGHT-TESTS RAYTHEON HYPERSONIC WEAPON

      According to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of United States, the country has successfully tested a Raytheon hypersonic weapon, an air-breathing hypersonic weapon, the next generation of arms that plunder the reaction time of rivals and traditional defeat mechanisms for Air Force.

 

19. ‘MY LIFE IN FULL: WORK, FAMILY AND OUR FUTURE’

      Indra Nooyi, former Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Inc, has penned her memoir titled ‘My Life in Full: Work, Family and Our Future’.

      The book is published by Hachette India.

      Indra Nooyi is an Indian-American business executive, who served as the chairperson and chief executive officer (CEO) of PepsiCo from 2006 to 2019.

1.       ACQUISITION OF 56 C-295MW AIRCRAFT

      On the lines of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approval, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with M/s Airbus Defence and Space, Spain worth Rs.22, 000 Crore on September 24, 2021, for acquisition of 56 C-295MW transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

      Of the 56 aircraft, 16 will be delivered in flyaway condition from Spain within 48 months.

      The remaining 40 will be manufactured in India by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), in partnership with Airbus and will be installed with indigenous Electronic Warfare Suite.

 

2. THE HIMALAYAN FILM FESTIVAL AT LEH

      Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, inaugurated the first edition of the Himalayan Film Festival organised by the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

      The event is hosted by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.

 

3. SAUBHAGYA COMPLETED 4 YEARS OF IMPLEMENTATION

      Saubhagya – Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana, one of the largest household electrification drives in the world, has completed 4 years of successful implementation.

      As of March 2021, 2.82 crore households across India have been electrified under the SAUBHAGYA since its launch.

      Saubhagya – Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25th September 2017, the birth centenary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.

 

4. RBI ISSUED MASTER DIRECTIONS

      Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued the master directions of RBI (Securitisation of Standard Assets) Directions, 2021, and RBI (Transfer of Loan Exposures) Directions, 2021.

      Master Directions on Securitisation of Standard Assets:

      Eligibility: Loans with tenor up to 24 months extended to individuals for agricultural activities (where both interest and principal are due only on maturity) and Trade receivables with tenor up to 12 months (discounted/purchased by lenders from their borrowers) will be eligible for securitisation.

      Minimum Retention Requirement (MRR):

      For loans with maturity of 24 months or less, the MRR should be 5 percent of the book value of the loans being securitised.

      For loans with original maturity of more than 24 months and loans with bullet repayments, the MRR shall be 10 percent of the book value of the loans being securitised.

      Master Directions on Transfer of Loan Exposures:

      Transfer of stressed loans: RBI has allowed the transferring of loan exposures classified as fraud (i.e. the stressed loans) to Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs).

      This direction came as a backdrop of the banks reported frauds aggregating Rs 3.95-lakh crore between FY19 and FY21.

      Minimum Holding Period (MHP): MHP is 3 months in case of loans with tenor of up to 2 years and 6 months in case of loans with tenor of more than 2 years.

 

5.INDIA’S CAG  ELECTED AS EXTERNAL AUDITOR FOR IAEA

      India’s Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) GC Murmu was elected as the external auditor of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the General Conference of the IAEA in Vienna, Austria on September 24.

      His tenure will be for six years, from 2022 to 2027.

 

6.WORLD PHARMACISTS DAY 2021 – SEPTEMBER 25

      World Pharmacists Day is annually observed across the globe on September 25th to recognise the role of pharmacists towards improving health across the globe.

      The day also marks the foundation day of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP- Fédération Internationale Pharmaceutique).

 

7.STATUE OF BITCOIN FOUNDER SATOSHI NAKAMOTO UNVEILED IN HUNGARY

      Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto’s first statue was unveiled in Budapest, Hungary.

      Although the legendary creator’s identity is still a mystery to the world, the bronze statue acknowledges the immense contribution to the disruption of traditional currency.

      It has been put on display at Graphishop Park, Budapest.

      The sculpture is the bust of a person wearing a hoodie that has the Bitcoin (BTC) logo engraved on it.

1.INDIAN ARMY TO PROCURE 118 ARJUN MK-1A

      Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) of Avadi, Chennai grabbed Rs 7,523 crore order from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the supply of 118 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) Arjun Mk-1A for the Indian Army.

      The tank is known as the “hunter killers”.

 

2.INDIA RANKED 46TH IN GII 2021 BY WIPO

      India’s rank in Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021 by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) improved by two spots to 46th from 48th in GII 2020.

      India entered into the group of top 50 countries in GII for the 1st time.

1.NATIONAL STEERING COMMITTEE TO DEVELOP CURRICULUM FRAMEWORKS

      The Ministry of Education (MoE) has formulated a 12-member National Steering Committee (SC) for the development of National Curriculum Frameworks in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

      It will be chaired by Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, an scientist who headed the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from 1994 to 2003.

      The tenure of the SC will be of 3 years w.e.f .September 21, 2021.

      The SC will be assisted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) Director Prof. Sridhar Srivastava (Current).

 

2.KOVALAM, EDEN BEACHES GET BLUE FLAG TAG

      Two more new Indian beaches– Kovalam in Tamil Nadu and Eden in Puducherry received Blue Flag Certification from Foundation for Environment Education in Denmark (FEE) in 2021.

      With this ,India received a Blue tag for 10 beaches.

      It is issued by Foundation for Environment Education in Denmark (FEE) and international jury comprising of members from IUCN, UNWTO, UNEP and UNESCO etc.

1.       RECOMMENDATIONS OF 45TH GST COUNCIL

      45th meeting of GST (Goods & Service Tax) Council was held at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under the chairmanship of the Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Ministry of Finance.

      The existing concessional GST rates (till 30th September, 2021) on Covid-19 treatment drugs extended to December, 31 2021.

      From January 1, 2022, food delivery apps will collect and deposit 5% GST with the government, in place of restaurants, for deliveries made by them.

      This will not affect the end consumer.

 

2. JOINT MILITARY TRAINING EXERCISE ‘SURYA KIRAN’

      The 14-day long 15th India-Nepal Joint Military Training exercise Surya Kiran commenced in the Himalayan border town of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand in India.

 

3. COMMEMORATIVE STAMP ON RAO JAIMAL RATHORE

      Devusinh Chauhan, Union Minister of State (MoS), Ministry of Communications launched a commemorative postal stamp to honour Rao Jaimal Rathore on his 515th birth anniversary.

      Rao Jaimal Rathore, a Rajput warrior general of Chittorgarh, fought against the Mughal army during its siege from 1567 to 1568.
