1. LOK SABHA PASSED PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS (AMENDMENT) BILL 2019
According to the bill, besides a Chief justice of India, a former Supreme Court judge can also be made the chairperson of National Human Rights Commission.
The bill also proposes to enable any person to be the chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission who has been a judge of a high court
The bill amends the protection of Human Rights Act 1993 to provide that a person who has been Chief Justice of India or a judge of the Supreme Court will be the chairperson of the NHRC.
The protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Bill 2019 provides two persons having knowledge of human right to be appointed as the members of the NHRC.

2. LUCKNOW TO HOST ASIA’S BIGGEST ARM SHOW ‘DEFEXPO’ IN FEBRUARY 2020
Lucknow will host the 11th biennial edition of DefExpo from February 5 to 8, 2020.
The focus of the Expo will be on “Digital transformation of defence”.
The main theme of DefExpo India-2020 will be “India: the emerging defence manufacturing hub”.


3. 13TH GLOBAL HEALTHCARE SUMMIT ORGANIZED BY AAPI AND GAPIO HELD IN HYDERABAD
Shri Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 13th edition of the annual Global Healthcare Summit organised by American Association of physicians of Indian Origin, with the lighting of the traditional lamp and delivering the keynote address at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad.
The 14th edition of GHS will be held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh in 2020

4. STANDARD CHARTERED TO BE THE FIRST FOREIGN BANK TO LAUNCH OPERATIONS AT GIFT IFSC
UK- based Standard Chartered will be the first foreign bank to launch operations at International Financial Service Centre.
The bank has received in-principle regulatory approvals to set up its IFSC Banking Unit in Gujarat International Finance Tec-city.
It has been set up by the Gujarat government in joint partnership with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services.

5. CARNATIC VOCALIST S. SOWMYA SELECTED FOR SANGITA KALANIDHI AWARD 2019
Vocalist S. Sowmya has been chosen for the Sangita Kalanidhi award of the Music Academy. She will preside over the 93rd annual conference of the Academy.
She holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry and Indian music and obtained a doctorate from the University of Madras. The Sangita Kalanidhi and other music awards will be conferred on the awardees at the Sadas of Music festival, on January 1, 2020.

6. WORLD REPUTATION RANKINGS 2019: TOP 3 BEST INSTITUTES IN
In the World Reputation Rankings Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal were awarded the top 3 positions.

7. KALRAJ MISHRA SWORN IN AS THE NEW GOVERNOR OF HIMACHAL PRADESH
Former Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises & a veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kalraj Mishra was sworn in as the 26th governor of Himachal Pradesh replacing Acharya Devvrat.

8. ACHARYA DEVVRAT SWORN IN AS GOVERNOR OF GUJARAT
Indian politician Acharya Dev Vrat sworn in as the 20th governor of Gujarat.
He succeeded Om Prakash Kohli.

10. CHANDRAYAAN-2 LAUNCHED SUCCESSFULLY FROM SDSC, SRIHARIKOTA, AP
India’s heaviest rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk-III, nicknamed ‘Bahubali’ carried the Chandrayaan-2 mission successfully from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, off the coast of Andhra Pradesh.
It is a Rs 978-crore project.
The Chandrayaan 2 mission is set to explore the south polar region of the Moon, which is also known as Dark Side of the Moon due to the absence of sunlight in and around the craters of the Lunar Polar surface.

11. INDIA’S TRACK AND FIELD LEGEND PT USHA NOMINATED FOR IAAF’S ‘VETERAN PIN’
India’s track and field legend PT Usha has been nominated for the IAAF’s ‘Veteran Pin’ for her outstanding service to the sport.
She is called as the “queen of track and field”.
She has been invited to participate in the award ceremony which will be held during the opening ceremony of the 52nd IAAF Congress at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha.
She had won five gold medals in 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay and a bronze medal in the 1985 Asian Athletic Championships which were held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

12. HIMA DAS & MUHAMMAD ANAS WIN GOLD IN THE 400M RACE HELD IN PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
Hima Das won her fifth gold of the month after she won the 400m race in Prague, Czech Republic. S
In Men’s category, Muhammad Anas won the gold medal by completing the 400m.

13. FIFA WOMEN’S RANKINGS: USA CONSOLIDATE THEIR LEAD AT TOP SPOT
The US have consolidated their top spot in the latest women’s rankings, after winning their second consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The US is followed by Germany and the Netherlands in the second and third places respectively

14. INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY CHIEF YUKIYA AMANO PASSED AWAY
5th Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano passed away.
He was serving the International Atomic Energy Agency from 2009 to till date.
Earlier, he served as an international civil servant for the United Nations and its subdivisions.

15. AUTHOR SUNIL MISHRA’S BOOK ‘WHO STOLE MY JOB ENTERS SECOND PRINT RUN’
India’s leading publishing house Srishti publishers and distributors announced the second print of ‘Who Stole My Job’ by nationally acclaimed author Sunil Mishra.
The book was first released in April 2019.
