1.    200 “URBAN FORESTS” IN 5 YEARS: CENTRAL GOVT.
·        “Nagar Van” (Urban forest) Scheme launched virtually by the Central Govt. on June 5, the occasion of the World Environment Day 2020 (WED) announcing the implementation to develop urban forests across the country over the span of 5 years.
·        Stressing on the substance theme of “Biodiversity” by the United Nation’s Environment Programme (UNEP), The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change celebrated the day by announcing the initiative of urban forests in India. 
·        Urban forest are seemingly the best way to bridge the gap of climate change.

2.    INDIA, AUSTRALIA BILATERAL VIRTUAL SUMMIT
·        The first India-Australia virtual leader’s summit was held between Indian PM Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison. 
·        The focus of the meet was to further strengthen the bilateral ties in areas like healthcare, trade and defence.
·        The External Affairs Minister of India Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne signed the 4-year $12.7 million Australia-India Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership. 
·        Notably, Australia expressed its strong support for India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).


3.    ASIA UNIVERSITY RANKING
·        In the Times Higher Education(THE) Asia University Ranking launched on 4th June 2020, Indian became the Third most represented country with 8 institutes in the top 100.
·        Indian Institute of Science(IISc) with 36th position on the list retains its top position in India.
·        Six Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) are featured in the top 100 of list along with Institute of Chemical Technology(ICT)
·        Tsinghua University, China Tops the List following Peking University, China in 2nd position and National University of Singapore, Singapore in 3rd position.

4.    WORLD ENTREPRENEUR 2020
·        Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw(67 years old), Executive Chairperson of India-based Biocon Limited was named as EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2020 for her contribution to improve access to affordable life-saving medicine & transform the world in one of its kind virtual entrepreneurship award ceremony.
·        She became the 3rd Indian to win this award, after Uday Kotak of Kotak Mahindra Bank (2014) and Narayana Murthy of Infosys Technologies Limited (2005)
·        Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw founded Biocon, a bio-enzymes company in 1978 and her firm became the 1st Indian company to export enzymes to the US and Europe.

5.    FORBES 100  WORLD’S HIGHEST-PAID CELEBRITIES 2020
·        According to the Forbes 100 world’s highest-paid celebrities 2020, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar ranked 52nd with estimated earnings of USD 48.5 million(M) & is the only Indian featured on the list.
·        The list is topped by 22 years old Kylie Jenner, model who earned USD 590M & also topped in the women category, followed by 42 years old American rapper Kanye West(2nd, USD 170M), 38 years old Tennis player Roger Federer(3rd rank, USD 106 M) & 35 years old Football  Cristiano Ronaldo( 4th rank , USD 105 M).

6.    RAJEEV TOPNO TO BE SENIOR ADVISOR AT WORLD BANK
·        Cabinet’s Appointment committee approved the appointments of Rajeev Topno as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director(ED)World Bank & Brajendra Navnit, as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India(PRI) to the World Trade Organisation(WTO) .

7.    MUBADALA TO BUY 1.85% STAKE IN JIO PLATFORMS
·        The Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor, Mubadala is all set to buy 1.85% stake in jio Platforms, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL), for Rs 9,093.60 crore.
·        With this investment, the platform has raised Rs 87,655.35 crore from leading global technology and growth investors including Facebook, Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR and Mubadala in less than six weeks.

8.    WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2020 – JUNE 5
·        The Theme of World Environment Day 2020 is “Biodiversity”. 

9.    SEVERE CYCLONIC STORM “NISARGA”: INDIA’S WEST COAST
·        Cyclone Nisarga, which intensified into a severe cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea, expected to hit the coasts of Gujarat, Maharashtra.
·        Over coastal Maharashtra  weakened into a Cyclonic Storm, dropped heavy rains and winds gusting up to 120km (75 miles) per hour as a category 4 cyclone near the coastal city of Alibag(Maharashtra).
·        The name Nisarga was suggested by Bangladesh.
