1. KHELO INDIA NATIONAL WINTER GAMES 2021

•      PM Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 2nd Edition of Khelo India National Winter Games 2021  in Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).

•      The event will take place from February 26-March 2, 2021.

•      It aims to strengthen the resolve for ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat’ (One India, One Nation).

 

2. INDIA HOLDS 1ST SHERPAS MEETING 2021

•      India virtually held the inaugural 3-day long Sherpas meeting from February 24-26, 2021.

•      This is the 1st Sherpas meeting hosted by India after it assumed the 2021 BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) Chairship. 

•      India succeeds Russia as the Chair of BRICS.

•      The meeting was chaired by Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Secretary, CPV and OIA (Consular, Passport & Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) & P Harish, Additional Secretary, Economic Relations as India’s BRICS Sherpa & Sous Sherpa.

 

3. INDIA’S 1ST UNDERSEA TUNNEL COMPLETED BY 2023

•      Two undersea tunnels are under construction in Mumbai city, as a part of the 10.58 kms long, Mumbai’s Coastal Road Project.

•      2 tunnels each 3-3.2 m wide are constructed for 2.07 km long of which one kilometer is constructed under the seabed.

•      Notably, this is India’s 1st Undersea Tunnel which will come to operation by 2023.

•      Constructed at 20m below the seabed.Uses 1st of its kind Ventilation system, “Saccardo”.

•      The tunnel will be connecting North Mumbai with South Mumbai, as a toll-free path easing up traffic.

 

4. NEW MD & CEO OF THE CENTRAL BANK OF INDIA

•      The Central Government has appointed Matam Venkata Rao, the Executive Director of Canara Bank as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Central Bank of India for a period of 3 years.

•      Central Bank of India was the first Indian commercial bank which was wholly owned and managed by Indians.

 

5. PRANAB MUKHERJEE’S MEMOIR TITLED ‘THE PRESIDENTIAL YEARS: 2012-2017’ RELEASED

•      Late Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee’s memoir(Authored by Pranab Mukherjee) titled ‘The Presidential Years: 2012-2017’ has been released in January 2021.

•      The book was published by  Rupa Publications India.

•      The book gives an account of how Pranab Mukherjee reshaped the functioning of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

•      During his presidency, he worked with 2 Prime Ministers(PMs) namely, Dr Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi, who is the current PM of India.

•      He was the 13th President of India.

•      Memoir – A Historical account or biography written from personal knowledge.
