10 more Wetlands added as Ramsar sites in
India
·
India has designated 10 more
wetlands under the Ramsar Convention or the Convention on Wetlands, taking the total
number of Ramsar sites in India to 64 from 54 with area coverage of
12,50,361 hectare (ha).
·
The 10 new sites include 6
sites in Tamil Nadu (TN) and 1 each in Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and
Odisha.
·
To be a Ramsar site, at least
one of the nine criteria as defined by the Ramsar Convention of 1971 must be
met by the wetland.
·
Sundarbans
in WB is the largest Ramsar site in
India.
·
Chilika lake
is Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon and first Indian wetland of
international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
·
The United Kingdom (175) has
maximum Ramsar sites whereas Bolivia spans
the largest area with 148,000 sq km under the Convention protection.
2.
World’s largest floating solar power plant to be
built in MP
·
The World’s
largest floating solar plant is set to be built on Omkareshwar Dam in
Narmada River at Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh (MP) which will generate
600 Megawatt power by 2022-23.
·
The estimated cost of the
projects is around Rs.3000 crore.
·
In July 2022, India’s
largest floating solar power project was made fully operational after NTPC
Limited declared commercial operation of the final part capacity of 20 MW out
of 100 MW Ramagundam Floating Solar PV Project at Ramagundam in Telangana.
3. Amazon Partners with Indian Railways to Boost
Delivery of Packages

Amazon India partnered
with Indian Railways to
boost its delivery services in India by transporting packages in more
than 110 inter-city
routes, ensuring one to 2-day delivery for its
customers.
·
In 2019, Amazon India became
the first online
delivery company to work with the Indian Railways to build
an express transportation product through rail.
4. LIC ranked 98th in 2022 Fortune 500 list
·
Life Insurance Corporation
(LIC) was ranked 98th, with revenue of USD 97.26 billion in the 2022 Fortune
Global 500 list.
·
Reliance Industries Limited
(RIL) jumped 51st rank to 104th in the list.
·
LIC is the only Indian company
ranked among the top 100 of the 2022 Fortune Global 500 list.
·
Walmart topped the list
for the 9th straight year, followed by Amazon, and Chinese energy giants State
Grid.

5. Mrs India World 2022-2023

Mrs. Sargam Koushal,
hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, was crowned as the winner of the Mrs India World 2022
·
Mrs India World 2022-2023 was
held at Goregaon, Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Mrs. JuhiVyas was adjudged as
1st runner up and Mrs. ChahatDalal as 2nd runner up.
6. Indian Navy’s all-women crew completes 1st
independent surveillance mission over Arabian Sea
·
Five officers of the Indian
Navy created history by completing the first all-women independent maritime
reconnaissance and surveillance mission in the north of the Arabian Sea,
onboard a Dornier-228 aircraft.
·
The mission was completed on
3rd August 2022.
·
The Dornier-228 aircraft was
captained by the Mission Commander, Lieutenant Commander Aanchal Sharma, who was
accompanied by a team of pilots, Lieutenant Shivangi and Lieutenant Apurva
Gite, Tactical and Sensor Officer Lieutenant Pooja Panda and Sub Lieutenant
PoojaShekhawat.

They are part of the Indian
Naval Air Squadron (INAS)-314,
based at Naval Air Enclave, Porbandar, Gujarat.
7. President of Maldives Ibrahim
Mohamed Solih visit to India

The President of Maldives
Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was on a 4-day visit to India in August 2022
·
The Maldivian President held
extensive talks with the Indian PM Narendra Modi .Both leaders
participated in the virtual ‘Pouring
of First Concrete’ of the Greater Malé Connectivity
Project (GMCP).
·
The President and the PM also
presided over the exchange of six key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between
the two nations.

8. French Govt Chevalier Award
·
The French Governemnt has
honoured Kannan Sundaram, publisher of Kalachuvadu,
with Chevalier de
l’Ordre National du Mérite, the Knight of the Order of the
Merit, for his contribution to the publishing collaboration between India and
France.
·
L’Ordre national du Mérite is
a French order of merit with membership awarded by the President of the French
Republic.
9. DRDO Successfully Test Fires Indigenously Developed
Laser-Guided ATGMs

Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO) and
the Indian Army successfully
test fired indigenously developed
Laser-Guided Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) from Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun at
KK Ranges in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra
·
The ATGM employs a tandem High
Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) warhead
to defeat Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) protected armoured vehicles.
10. South Korea launches first Moon
mission: Danuri
·
South Korea’s first-ever lunar orbiter, Danuri was
launched from Cape
Canaveral in Florida to observe the Moon and it aims to
reach the Moon by mid-December.
·
This lunar mission has been
jointly developed by NASA and
the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).
·
With this launch, South Korea
will become the seventh country in the world to have launched an
unmanned probe to the Moon.
