1. FIRST
INDIAN WOMAN FELLOW OF METEORITICAL SOCIETY
·
Indian Space and Research
Organisation (ISRO) scientist Kuljeet Kaur Marhas, became
the first Indian woman to be elected as a Fellow
of the Meteoritical Society for 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious honours in meteoritics and
planetary science.
·
She has
become the 3rd Indian scientist honoured with this
fellowship, only after Devendra Lal and JN Goswami.
2. SHANGHAI
HYUNDAI ARCHERY WORLD CUP STAGE 2
·
The 20th edition of the Shanghai
Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 2, was held in Shanghai,
People’s Republic of China.
·
India
won two medals, including a gold by
the women’s recurve team and a bronze medal
by SahilJadhav in the men’s individual compound
event.
·
Turkiye topped
the medal tally with 6 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze), followed
by China with 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze)
and South Korea with 5 medals (2 gold, 1 silver and
2 Bronze).
·
India’s women’s recurve team comprising DeepikaKumari, AnkitaBhakat and
KumkumMohodwon the gold medal after
defeating China .
3. 2ND
YOUNGEST GRANDMASTER
·
Faustino Oro,
the Argentina-born chess prodigy
popularly known as the ‘Messi of Chess’,
became the second-youngest Grandmaster (GM) in chess
history at the age of 12 years, 6 months, and 26 days after securing his third
and final GM norm at the Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026 in
Sardinia, Italy .

He
achieved the feat behind Abhimanyu Mishra of USA,
who remains the youngest-ever GM.

5. WORLD
MIGRATORY BIRD DAY 2026 – MAY 9
·
World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is
a United Nations (UN)-supported global campaign, observed twice in a year i.e. on the second Saturday
of May and October.
·
This year, WMBD 2026 falls on May 9 2026 and October
10 2026.
·
The
initiative was initially started in USA in 1993 as
International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD), established by
the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center,
Washington, D.C., the USA.
6. INTERNATIONAL
DAY OF VESAK OR BUDDHA PURNIMA 2026 – MAY 1
·
The United Nations (UN) International
Day of Vesak, also known as Buddha Purnima,
was observed across the world on the Full Moon day in Vaisakha
(May) to promote the teachings of Gautama Buddha and global
cultural harmony, commemorating his birth
(623 Before Christ(B.C.)), enlightenment, and Parinirvana.

The first International Day of Vesak was
observed in 2000.
7. NATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY DAY 2026 – MAY 11
·
National Technology Day is
celebrated annually across India on May 11 to
promote India’s innovation ecosystem through deep-tech, precision engineering,
and advanced Research & Development (R&D).
·
2026 Theme: “Responsible Innovation for Inclusive
Growth.”
·
It Marks the historic achievements of May 11, 1998, including India’s Operation Shakti (Pokhran-II)
nuclear tests and the maiden flight of the indigenous Hansa-3
aircraft.
·
The Council for Technology organised the
first-ever National Technology Day on May 11, 1999.
8. INTERNATIONAL
NURSES DAY 2026 – MAY 12
·
The International Nurses Day
(IND) is observed globally every year on May 12 commemorating
the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale (1820–1910),
who is renowned as the founder of modern
nursing.
·
2026 Theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered
Nurses Save Lives”.
·
In 1974, ICN officially
adopted 12 May as the observance date to honor Florence Nightingale.
·
The President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred National
Florence Nightingale Awards 2026 to 15 nursing personnel.
9. INTERNATIONAL
DAY OF FAMILIES 2026 – MAY 15
·
The United Nations(UN’s) International Day of
Families (IDF) is observed annually on 15
May to highlight the role of families in societal development and
address global social, economic, and demographic challenges.
·
2026 Theme: “Families, Inequalities and Child
Wellbeing”
·
The first IDF was observed on 15
May 1994.
·
The International Day of Families is
represented by a green circle enclosing
a red heart beneath a roof
10. RBI
IMPOSES PENALTIES ON YES BANK, HINDUJA HOUSING FINANCE
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a
monetary penalty of Rs 33.60 lakh on YES Bank
Limited, and Hinduja Housing Finance Limited for lapses in regulatory
compliance.
·
RBI has imposed a penalty of Rs
31.80 lakh on YES Bank due to its failure to comply with certain
provisions related to ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) norms.
·
A monetary penalty of Rs 1.80
lakh has been imposed on Hinduja
Housing Finance Ltd., for its failure to comply with certain directions
issued by RBI, relating to ‘governance’.
11. RBI
& ECB SIGNED MOU TO BOOST CENTRAL BANKING COOPERATION
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Central Bank (ECB), to
enhance cooperation in the field of central banking.
·
The MoU was signed by Dr.
Sanjay Malhotra, Governor of RBI and Christine Lagarde, President
of ECB on the sidelines of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) meetings
held in Basel, Switzerland.
12. SEBI
PROPOSES ‘GARUDA MECHANISM’ TO SPEED UP AIF SCHEME LAUNCHES
·
The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI)
proposed a new regulatory framework titled ‘Green-Channel: Alternative Investment Funds (AIF) Rollout Upon Document
Acknowledgement (GARUDA) mechanism’ to accelerate the
launch and approval process of AIF schemes in India.
·
GARUDA
aims to streamline the Processing of Placement Memorandums (PPMs)
filed with SEBI and further ease fundraising by AIFs.
·
This will enable Non-Accredited Investor schemes to be rolled out in 10
working days of filing their placement memorandums from the
current 30 days.
·
It will also allow Angel Funds and Accredited
Investor-only (AI-Only) schemes to begin fundraising
almost immediately after filing documents with the regulator.
·
For first-time schemes, launch permission will be granted either from the date of
SEBI registration or after 10 working days from filing, whichever is later.
13. RBI
CANCELS LICENCE OF MUMBAI-BASED SARVODAYA CO-OPERATIVE BANK
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cancelled
the banking licence of Mumbai based Sarvodaya Co-operative Bank
Limited
·
The
licence was cancelled due to inadequate
capital, weak earnings prospects, inability to fully repay depositors, and
non-compliance with capital adequacy and licensing requirements
·
Deposit
Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC)
provides insurance coverage of up to Rs.5
lakhs per depositor per bank, including principal and interest on savings,
current, fixed and recurring deposits.
14. RBI
REMOVES PRIOR APPROVAL REQUIREMENT FOR BANKS’ OUTWARD REMITTANCE TIE-UPS WITH
FINTECHS
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) removed
the prior approval requirement for non-bank entities(fintechs) to form tie-up arrangements enabling
outward remittance services through banks in India.
·
This
direction is part of the operating framework issued by RBI to facilitate
outward remittance services by non-bank entities through Authorised Dealer (AD)
Category-I banks in India.
·
Under
the previous 2016 framework, non-bank entities
were mandated to obtain RBI approval before entering into tie-up arrangements
with AD banks in India, for outward remittance services.
·
The updated
framework will be applicable to cross-border outward remittance of funds for non trade current account transactions
facilitated via websites, online platforms, software applications (apps),
and mobile apps operated by 3rd-party entities.
·
As per RBI directions, AD banks have been mandated to adhere to the Foreign Exchange
Management Act, 1999 (FEMA) and perform due
diligence through Know Your Customer (KYC).
·
In addition, banks have been directed to inform customers about the exact foreign
exchange amount to be credited and the maximum time required for the
beneficiary to receive funds.
