1.      BOOK RELEASE BY CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF
i. General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army the Staff released the book 'Across the Bench - Insight into the Indian Military Judicial System' by Lt Gen Gyan Bhushan, former Army Commander and Member 'A', Armed Forces Tribunal, Lucknow Bench.
ii. The book deals with military judicial system vis-a-vis command and management issues within the military establishments.

2.      INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY: 12 MAY
i. International Nurses Day  is celebrated every year all around the world on 12th of May to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Florence Nightingale and to mark the nurse's contributions towards people’s health.
ii. The International Council of Nurses  has chosen the theme “Nurses A Voice to Lead – Health is a Human right” for IND 2018. It was first celebrated by ICN in the year 1965.

3.      PROF MUHAMMAD YUNUS CONFERRED KISS HUMANITARIAN AWARD 2018
i. Nobel laureate and noted economist Muhammad Yunus was honoured with the 11th KISS Humanitarian Award 2018 at a function held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
ii. Yunus is the founder of Grameen Bank and is known as the Father of Microfinance.

1.      NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY: 11 MAY
i. Every year, `National Technology Day' is celebrated across India on May 11 to memorize the anniversary of Shakti, the Pokhran nuclear test held on 11 May 1998.
ii. The National Technology Day 2018 theme is “Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”. The first nuclear test Pokhran with a code named as ‘Smiling Buddha’ was carried out in May, 1974.

2.      U.S.- INDIA AVIATION SUMMIT HELD IN MUMBAI
i. In collaboration with the U.S.-India Aviation Cooperation Program and the Government of India, US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is hosted the 6th U.S.-India Aviation Summit in Mumbai, India.
ii. The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) is organizing this visit on behalf of USTDA.

3.      VIJAY PRAHAR EXERCISE OF INDIAN ARMY CONCLUDED IN RAJASTHAN
i. Indian Army’s month-long Vijay Prahar exercise concluded in Suratgarh, Rajasthan. It was conducted by South Western Command of Indian Army.
ii. The exercise was aimed to orchestrate wide spectrum of threats including  Nuclear, Chemical or Biological (NCB) attack which are planned to be tackled through high tempo joint air and land operation.

1.      15TH ASIA-MEDIA SUMMIT BEGINS IN NEW DELHI
i. The 15th Asia Media Summit has begun in New Delhi.
ii. The theme of the Summit is 'Telling our Stories - Asia and More'. Representatives from 40 countries are participating in the Summit.

2.      RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD LAUNCHES WEBSITE OF DIGITAL INDIA INTERNSHIP SCHEME
i. Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the website of Digital India Internship Scheme in New Delhi.
ii.Under this scheme, 25 interns will be inducted for a period of three months.
iii. The internship is an opportunity for a student to secure first hand and practical work experience under the guidance of qualified and experienced Supervisor and Mentor.

3.      15TH FINANCE COMMISSION CONSTITUTED ADVISORY COUNCIL
i. The 15th Finance Commission has constituted an advisory council to advise and assist the commission.
ii.The six-member council will be headed by the President of Forum for Strategic Initiatives, Arvind Virmani.
iii. The role and functions of the council will be to advise the commission on any issue or subject related to the Terms of Reference  of the Commission.

4.      CHINA LAUNCHED GAOFEN-5  TO MONITOR AIR POLLUTION
i. China has successfully launched a hyperspectral imaging satellite 'Gaofen-5' for comprehensive observation of the atmosphere, including air pollution which is one of the country's major problems.
ii.The Gaofen-5 satellite was launched off the back of a Long March 4C rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.

5.      NISHA BHALLA CONFERRED WITH 'WEF 2018' AWARD
i. Nisha Bhalla was felicitated at the recently concluded Annual Women Economic Forum  2018 Awards.
ii.WEF is the largest global gathering of women entrepreneurs and leaders worldwide.
iii. Nisha was presented the 'Excellent Woman of Excellence' award for her spiritual service at the event.

6.      BUSINESS OPTIMISM INDEX: INDIA RANKS 6TH, AUSTRIA TOPS
i. India was ranked 6th on Global Optimism Index released as part of Grant Thornton’s International Business Report in the first quarter of 2018.
ii.  India had topped the chart for four years.
iii.The top five nations in the report are Austria, Finland, Indonesia, the Netherlands and the US.

  1. SEPTEMBER 2019 CLIMATE SUMMIT TO BE HELD IN NEW YORK: UN CHIEF
i. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced to hold a climate summit in September 2019 in New York to review the commitments of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
ii. Guterres appointed former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg as his Special Envoy for Climate Action who was tasked to support the United Nations (UN) in its climate strategy and in organising the 2019 summit.

  1. THE USA WITHDRAWS FROM IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL
i. President Donald Trump announced US withdrawal from the 2015 landmark nuclear deal with Iran.
ii.Mr Trump signed a fresh set of sanctions against Iran and warned countries against any cooperation with Tehran on its controversial nuclear weapons programme.
iii. The historic nuclear deal was reached in Vienna in July 2015 between Iran and the P5 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council) along with Germany and the European Union.

1.      SCO SECRETARY-GENERAL IN INDIA TO HOLD TALKS WITH UNION MINISTERS
i.  Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Secretary-General Rashid KutbiddinovitchAlimov arrived in New Delhi to hold talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and other Union ministers.
ii. External Affairs Minister   will hold a bilateral meeting with Alimov in Delhi.
iii.India became a full member of SCO in June 2017, at an international summit held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

2.      CBDT APPROVES AMENDMENT OF INDIA-KUWAIT TAX AGREEMENT
i. The Central Board of Direct Taxes  notified the protocol amending the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement  between India and Kuwait.
ii. The protocol updates the provisions in the DTAA for the exchange of information as per international standards, and also enables sharing of information received from Kuwait for tax purposes with other law enforcement agencies.

3.      INDIA, SRI LANKA AGREE ON INFORMATION EXCHANGE FOR DRUG CONTROL
i. India and Sri Lanka agreed on cooperation on exchange of information and other aspects to tackle smuggling of drugs in both countries.
ii. A decision to this effect was taken at the third bilateral meeting between delegations from India's Narcotics Control Bureau  and Sri Lanka's Police Narcotics Bureau  on narcotics, drugs and psychotropic substances and related matters in New Delhi.

4.      SKILL INDIA ORGANIZED 'AJEEVIKA AND KAUSHALVIKASMELA' IN BHUBANESWAR
i. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Ministry of Rural Development  together joined hands to amplify the “Gram Swaraj Abhiyaan” of the current incumbent government which is promoting social harmony and awareness around the pro-poor initiatives of the government.
ii. MSDE organized a Kaushal and RojgarMela at New Women’s College in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where more than 5000 people from different walks of life participated.

5.      GOOGLE NAMES NITINBAWANKULE HEAD OF INDIA CLOUD BUSINESS
i. Google had appointed NitinBawankule as the country head for its cloud business in India, as the search giant looks at taking a larger share of the booming demand for those services in the country.
ii. Bawankule has been with Google for six years and was previously head of sales for its e-commerce, retail and classifieds and education business.

6.      WALMART BUYS FLIPKART IN WORLD'S LARGEST E-COMMERCE DEAL
i. US-based retail giant Walmart has confirmed that it will buy 77% stake in India's largest e-commerce startup Flipkart for $16 billion.
ii.Walmart bought the stake in Flipkart for 16 billion dollars.

7.      FORBES MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD: PM MODI 9TH, XI JINPING TOPS
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been ranked ninth on Forbes' 2018 list of 'the world's most powerful people'.
ii. Chinese President Xi Jinping ranked first, followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump at the second and third rank, respectively.
ii. The only other Indian to feature on the list is Reliance Industries Chairman MukeshAmbani at 32.

1.      INDIA SIGNS USD200 MILLION LOAN DEAL WITH WORLD BANK FOR NATIONAL NUTRITION MISSION
i. India has signed a loan deal worth $ 200 million with the World Bank for the National Nutrition Mission (POSHAN Abhiyaan).
ii. The loan would help India in achieving its goal of reducing stunting in children 0-6 years of age from 38.4% to 25% by the year 2022.
The POSHAN  Abhiyaan was launched by the Prime Minister in March 2018 at Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.

2.      ‘1ST APEX CONFERENCE FOR CEOS OF SMART CITIES’ IN BHOPAL INAUGURATED
i. Mr Hardeep Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Housing & Urban Affairs inaugurated the 'First Apex Conference for the CEOs of Smart Cities' in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
ii. Since its launch in June 2015, the Smart Cities Mission  has been one of the most transformational urban missions.
iii. The two-day conference is being organised for providing a platform for cross-learning and knowledge sharing among the Smart City CEOs.

3.      NITI AAYOG, GOOGLE SIGN SOI TO HELP GROW AI ECOSYSTEM IN INDIA
i. Aiming to foster growth for India’s nascent Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning ecosystem, NITI Aayog and Google have signed a Statement of Intent  to work on a range of initiatives to help build the AI ecosystem across the country.
ii. The NITI Aayog has been entrusted to set up a national programme to conduct research and development in frontier technologies such as AI.

i. India would be hosting the 15th Asia Media Summit  in New Delhi.
